WRV54G using HP's RDP and PXE

I have a WRV54G that replaced an older Linksys Product.  All my devices on my LAN get DHCP address but two (they are serves).  On my LAN I use a product from HP called RDP (Altiris Deployment Solution).  What this allows is PC’s can PXE boot using the NIC and I can use HP RDP to push OS’s / Applications to them.  With this new WRV54G when a PC tries to PXE boot it fails to get an IP from this device and fails.  But my entire Window based PC’s get a DHCP address from this device when they boot.  Any idea why when a NIC tries to PXE (broadcast for a DHCP IP, at the NIC level) it fails to get an address?  Is there an option in the setup that needs to be enabled for this to work?  BTW one the device gets the IP it then broadcasts for a PXE server which I have on the LAN.  Also again my older Linksys made all this work just fine.
Thanks
Tommy

Thanks for the reply,
I have the DHCP enabled and all the systems with OS's loaded get one of 100 address in the pool.  ( I only have 10 systems on line)  The one's that I PXE or NIC boot will not get a DHCP address they broadcast for one, but none is given.  I still have lots of address left and have a short lease duration.  I can see the network traffic (somewhat) and see the DHCP request, but I don't see the reply.  Is there some option that may have to do with BOOTP or some thing like that???
Thanks
Tommy

  • Full screen issue when utilizing Ease of Use on screen keyboard and RDP in Win8.1

    Hello,
I am exploring using touch technology with our point of sale application which is delivered to our clients using RDP.  The default touch keyboard in Win8 is basically useless for our application so we enabled the touch keyboard under Ease of Use (EoU)
which does meet our requirements.   We enabled the KB in docked mode so it is always displayed and locked to the bottom of the display.  The issue is that when we start an RDP session in full screen mode, the RDP session is using the whole screen
and slipping under the docked EoU KB.  Is there a means to have RDP recognize the reduced screen size with the EoU KB docked and only use the available screen real estate?  I understand that I can configure the RDP settings manually and approximate
what I'm looking for but this drops the session into a window which is somethibg I'm looking to avoid.

    Hi Steve,
Thank you for post in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, I can say that you need to set the RDP screen size manually. So after setting the size of Full screen RDP you can able to use. You can also try to switch the application in Remote Desktop connection by “Ctrl+Alt+Break”. Please check
the shortcut to be used when using RDC.

  • Installing Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 using ISOs, Answer Files and Driver files over PXE boot

I have a validation lab that uses Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 on several completely different systems. I am looking for an easy way for the techs to PXE boot from a 2012 Server, select the OS to install and have the OS installed with drivers so when they come back
to the system it has the OS installed with no Bangs in Device Manager.
I have done this in the past (7-8 years ago) and it was fairly easy. Now from what I read it appears I have to create "Image" files for each system type? I hope I am misreading this because that method is counter-productive to create 10 different
    images for 10 different systems.
I thought I used WDS and AIK on a 2K3 Server but I don't remember.
Is there a method/tool to install the operating systems as I described above using original OS ISOs, unattended answer files and driver files? WDS or SCCM? AM I misreading how it works?

    Consider using newer Windows ADK

  • Can't get to home network behind WRV54G using QuickVPN

Someone please help preserve my sanity.  I have a home LAN with multiple wired and wireless W2K computers on a WRV54G.  I have the QuickVPN client on my W2K laptop.  I have a static WAN address.
I can remotely connect to the WRV54G using QuickVPN with no problems at all.  The connection seems to be able to stay up indefinately and I can remotely administer the WRV54G and access all functionality.  I can even ping all of the computers on my LAN from the remote connection with great response times.
What I cannot do is "see" any of the computers on the LAN from the remote connection.  I cannot map to any of the shared drives on the LAN either using machine names or IP addresses.  I have repeatedly attempted to try different settings on the router's VPN setup and I have created user accouonts on the LAN machines for my remote login name and password.  Still no joy.  This is driving me nuts.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Brickmonkey,
I'm afraid I don't know how to find the answer you are referring to.  I tride th url you referenced, but linksys says it doesn't exist.  Sorry if I'm a little slow .....

  • Using Photoshop over RDP

    Hi,
I'm asked to install Photoshop to a number of people.
I'm looking for advices/opinion/experiences about using Photoshop over RDP served by a W2008R2 (virtual) and accessed by  Wyse ThinOS box, over a 100Mb/full, wired network.
Is it total nonsense, due to lossy RDP compression ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry for late response. You can use Photoshop though RDP serer 2008 R2 but as you know that there is specific consideration which need to take place for RDP to any system and working with such kind of software. We need to have good network bandwidth, screen
solution and many different aspects need to consider. For more details you can go through below article for performance tuning.

  • RV220W RDP and WAN

I have setup portforwarding on the RV220W, to allow outside connections on RDP. I have tested that LAN RDP works fine, but when I test using an outside address trying to connect to an inside windows PC with RDP nothing happens.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where I might be going wrong.
I have created the Service RDP
    Thanks

tbh i hope you couldn't ping you inside PCs that would be leaving your network wide open to hackers.  are you behind any company proxy at work perhaps? or just one a normal ISP connection?  when port forwarding your PCs will need static IPs or static DHCP assigned IPs.
Really, if you are able, i would setup the SSL VPN. then you browse to your routers external IP address as usual but enter your SSLVPN user account (not the Cisco Admin account), this will then give you a SSL VPN Tunnel issuing you an internal IP address and thus allowing you to access local network shares/PCs etc (without port forwarding) and is much safer then opening RDP and other ports to the world.
this is what I do to access my NAS Services from work to home.
there are known issues with the latest Java and Mac Books but there is a workaround stated in the latest firmware release notes.

  • SCCM 2012 R2, DHCP and WDS and PXE same server

    hi
I am using DHCP and PXE on same server and getting error PXE-E55: proxyDHCP did not reply to request on port 4011

    HI,
To get WDS and DHCP to work on the same machine, you need to configure WDS to share the same server as DHCP, here is how it is done.
You must have a functioning DHCP server with an active scope. WDS will utilize PXE which requires a DHCP server.
Whether you plan to co-host WDS and DHCP on the same server or use two different servers you must configure WDS to listen on a specific port. DHCP and WDS both require port number 67. If you have co-hosted WDS and DHCP you can move DHCP or the PXE site role
to a separate server or use the procedure below to configure the WDS server to listen on a different port.
    Modify the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE
    Set the registry value to:
    UseDHCPPorts = 0
For the new configuration to take effect run the following command on the co-located DHCP and WDS server:
    WDSUTIL /Set-Server /UseDHCPPorts:No /DHCPOption60:Yes

  • RDP and WAAS

I'm using 2X ApplicationServer for Windows Terminal Server. It uses port 81 to connect to the Application server and then RDP 3389 to the Terminal Servers from the Application server. I have added a diagram to review.
I have added a policy to Optimize (TFO Only) for port 81 to accelerate the connection between a client and the app server (App server and Terminal Server farm).
Is this the best way to optimize RDP? The RDP policy (MS-Terminal-Services) appears to be TFO only by default, but does anyone compress (DRE and/or LZ) any of this for further acceleration? Is this possible?
The reason I ask is because we have several people in remote offices trying to view pictures and mapping software, which can get quite "laggy" over an RDP session at times.
    Thanks,
    David

Thanks for the info, Zach. I did some searching and indeed did find you stating this in the posting.
I am Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows XP. However, by using the 2X application, it appears that the clients connect to the broker server on port 81 and then the broker server connects through RDP to the back-end terminal servers.
I am not sure how to put a policy in for this end-to-end level of connectivity, but for now I have added a policy to use TFO between clients and the broker server via port 81.
    Thanks for the help,
    David

  • If we have 3 iPhones, and use the same iTunes for all content, should we use 3 Apple IDs and authorize for all 3 or just use 1 ID?

I want to enable us to share all apps, music, videos and photos, but enable each phone to keep its contacts and history separate. If I use 1 ID, all new purchases will go on the same credit card, which I'm not sure is ideal, but not horrible. Since we use the same computer and iTunes using only 1 appleID, and the phones are new to the equation since it was only iPods before, what is the best way to handle a family with 3 phones that can share all entertainment content, but not all phone-related stuff? I saw that you can use one AppleID for purchases, but another for iCloud. That may be the best solution, but I don't know enough about this yet to move forward yet- migrating from Android...
    Appreciate the help.

Thanks for the help, but a follow up question now.
My iPhone won't arrive for a little while, but my wife already got hers and she wants to set it up now. Using my Apple ID for the purchases, if she starts setting hers up, can she change her iCloud ID to something else quickly? It keeps telling us that we have to sign in with the AppleID first.
Should we just set up an iCloud account via normal internet before trying all this via iPhone?

There probably is, but it requires that you be able to use punctuation and write in sentences so that we can understand exactly what you want.
You can block others from using your Apple ID by changing your password.  There is no way to erase what was already downloaded on to someone else's device, for obvious reasons,

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can do it, but it's not recommended to use a Time Machine volume to store other files. In this case, you can create a second volume on the external drive, so you will be able to use it to store data and transfer it to other PCs.
As you are going to use the external drive with other PCs, you can make the volume and format it in "MS-DOS (FAT)" with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html Finally, you will be able to copy files to the external drive.
If you copy files to a Time Machine disk, you may damage the Time Machine file structure, so you shouldn't do it. It may not happen, but it's better not to try that. Also, you won't be able to read the Time Machine drive in a PC

Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.
