WRVS 4400N

I am trying to add a WRVS4400N into an existing 172.xx.xxx.xxx network.
I have created a reservation for this in DHCP and add this IP into the Router.
I have setthe router to not do DHCP, since it is done from my server.
My problem is:
1) I can connect to the wireless fine, but can never get to the internet.
2) Once I make the changes to the router for the above, I can't get back into it.
What steps should I follow to get this up and running?
What should the WAN and LAN settings be on the router?
Basically, I am using this to allow 24 laptops access to our existing network resources.
Thanks,
Scott

Dave,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, this will be plugged into one of the LAN ports on our network and it's sole purpose is to be an access point for 24 netbooks.
Basically, it is being used in a high school. The goal is to be able to roll a netbook cart (with this attached), be able to plug this into any network port in the building and have it work as an access point in that classroom. It's doesn't need to do anything else, really. All of the routing is handled by the buildings router.

  • WRVS-4400N no IPv6 on WAN Interface

Currently the WRVS-4400N will only support IPv6 limited.
Is there a time line when this device will support IPv6 also on the WAN Interface? I want to move over to IPv6 complete and get rid of IPv4.
PLEASE!!! START TO SUPPORT IPv6 FULL ON EVERY DEVICE!!
    Best regards,
    Torsten

In the meantime I have seen that the RV220W will full support IPv6.
I think about to trash the WRVS and move over to RV220W.

I don't understand why CISCO support will give such comments. From my point of view this will say everything about the future of the WRVS device.
    Thanks!

  • Linksys/Cisco WRVS-4400N.v2 - WAN dual-pptp(l2tp) setup?

    Good day.
    I've recently received a WRVS-4400N v2 and I'm having the following problems:
I don't see any way to set it up to work with my provider, as it works with so-called by Dlink "dual-access pptp (or l2tp). So, I'v got a static IP I receive, when I connect to L2TP server, but first I receive a dynamic, which let's me into their network. Did anyone try configuring wrvs4400n under such conditions?
Second problem is that you cannot set it to access pptp/l2tp server by name, only by IP, which is not acceptable - access servers do change their ips from time to time.
Are there any solutions\ideas? OpenWRT/DD-WRT don't support this model. Can I hope for a firmware upgrade, which will allow the aforementioned, or should I just get rid off this model?
    Thanks for your attention.

  • WRVS-4400N Firewall

Hello ! In FIREWALL/INTERNET ACCESS POLICY Since there are up to 20 entries you can set as a "Forbidden Domains" or "Forbidden Keywords" and I would like to protect my network by adding some more, I created a brand new policy (pull down menu " Internet Access Policy"), I set the same IP RANGE where I would like it have effect, 24h schedule and I've enabled it. I saved the rule, and I've restarted the router. Then I tested it and I've noticed the firewall doesn't care about the second rule. In other words: I can't have access to the URLs listed in the first policy (right) I can have access to the URLs listed in the second policy (wrong) My FW version is: 1.00.15 Did I something wrong ir this is another bug ? Thanks and regards. Luca

It is not a bug. It is just a limitation like many others you find in web-based consumer and SMB routers. If you need more extensive or more complex blocking/filtering you need a better router which allows you to freely configure the filter. But then you are looking at a far more expensive devices which is far more difficult to configure.
Why do you want to block so many URLs and keywords anyway? Are you aware that those blocking lists won't keep people from accessing those places? That's why those blocking lists are often completely useless because they are not very effective.

Has the backdoor in the WRVS 4400N, RVS 4000 etc. really been eliminated from the latest firmware or is it just hidden away?

  • QoS Setting

    Hello There,
I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to set up QoS on WRVS 4400N, because when I try set it up on download and upload bandwidth there are nothing changes in traffic connection in fact my bandwidth become smaller.
    Btw my connection from ISP
    DL 6 MBps
    UL 1,5 MBps.
    Thank

    Cablak,
Remember that you will only be able to control the traffic while it is on your equipment, once it leaves your network it is up to the ISP's to priorities the traffic how they want. You could police the traffic meaning when you are receiving traffic on the WAN when it is being placed into the buffers it would allow some types of traffic through with little to no buffer and buffer other traffic if needed due to the speed of the LAN, However usually the bandwidth coming in from the ISP in your case 6Mbps is much slower than the LAN at a minimum of 10Mbps usually 100 or 1000Mbps. There should be no reason why traffic is being held up getting onto your network.
The traffic going to the Internet you could QoS and shape the traffic as it leaves your network, for you 100Mbps to 1,5Mbps.  You could give lets say voice traffic 512Kbps guaranty and the rest of the bandwidth to other forms of data, but you will need to do research on your traffic. If you set a protocols priority too low it might cause packet retransmission if it is TCP and cause more bandwidth being taken up vs less. Also if it is UDP traffic it might be dropped completly and stop working.
Make sure you are manually changing your Up and Down to match what you are getting from the ISP. Also remember if you priorities lets say voice over Data then you will see slower speed tests because you told it to.
I don't know your settings, or the type of traffic you have on your network, to know why you are seeing the results you are seeing but I hope this helps,

  • WLAN - Probleme bei Cisco Router WRVS4400N-EU

    Hallo,

  • 2 x 4400n

    Hi,
I have 2 x 4400N's configured exactly the same but when I search for wireless networks - 2 wireless networks show up.
If the SSID and all the other settigns are configured the same shouldnt only 1 SSID wireless network show up?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks

What shows up depends on the software you use. If it only shows you the SSID it will show you only a single network SSID. If it shows you the mac addresses of the access points it will show you two access points with the same SSID.
The best way to set up two WAPs which connect to the same physical LAN is identical wireless settings (SSID, wireless security, passphrase, etc.) except the channels. Channels should differ to avoid interference. This will create a roaming wireless network.

  • Strange work wired network in WRVS 4400 N

Has come up against very strange situation.
There is small office network to 10 personal computers (systems different from Win2000 to Vista). One file server (system Win2003 R2 SP2) with static IP the address and the network printer, too with static IP the address. All this PC receives ip addresses dynamically on wi-fi from router Cisco-Linksys WRVS 4400 N, except 2 static devices - the server and the network printer.
Problem essence - I need connection of the new laptop and new desktop (on both it is established Win Vista Home Edition), on wi-fi communication - is. On wire connection(LAN) - dynamic IP at all doesn't receive, if I register - statically shows any exchange of packages, but other personal computers in a network - not pinging. Under wi-fi, on the laptop and desktop(via USB wi-fi adapter), all perfectly works.
Tried to disconnect firewall and DHCP on a router. Connections on router ports too changed. Patchcords checked a cable-tester. Rebooted a router - any effect. Who can faced - prompt.

Did you try a new Ethernet cable?

  • WRV 200 can't see server to save settings

When I use the browser based administration tool for my WRV 200 wireless router, I cannot save the settings or generate a WEP key.  Any attempt to save information back to the router via the browser returns the "page not found" error.  I've been able to get partially around it by saving the config file and looking at the status pages to see how much is saved but I'm sure this is not the way it's supposed to work.
    I'm using IE 6.0 SP1 as a browser.
    Any ideas?
I had the wireless working but noticed it was unsecured.  I tried to set up the security and change the settings and now the wireless doesn't work at all.  The wireless network is not seen every though all security settings are back to wide open.  Very frustrating.
    thanks

    Hi !
u can also upgarde the firmware through TFTP.exe which u can locate on the following link
            ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/
After upgarding the firmware reset the router & reconfigure according to ur ISP settings  ...n then should not face any issues !

  • PPTP VPN -WRV-210

A quick question, can I use PPTP protocol with a WRV-210?  Or must I use the Linksys Quick VPN client?
    cheers,
    Chris

Yes you can use the PPTP Protocol of WRV210, the WRV210 will Support IPSec Passthrough, PPTP Passthroug, L2TP Passthrough....But to Connect to your VPN Network you need to use the VPN Client on your Computers.

  • WAP 4400N

    Hi guys
I am TOTALLY incompetent in setting up wireless connections. I have a ADSL 512k connection via a Linksys WAG 300N modem router on the ground floor and it is linked by an ethernet cable to a WAP 4400N on the first floor.
Recently the internet connection on the first floor has started to become erratic.
    Hence my questions
how do I correct the problem?
If I try a reset, how long do I have to push the button?
could it be that the access point needs an update of its firmware? How do I check which firmware is currently operating? I suppose that I have to connect my laptop to the WAP and then type some url like 192.168.1.1. ????
How do I activate the Power over Ethernet facility? So far I have always used a power cable.
the helpline number here in Dubai which links to an operator in India is unable to help becuase this WAP is a business device....
    Many thanks.

    Dear Edgard
Many, many thanks for your offer to help. But please, consider I am a total ignorant in these matters ( I am a medical doctor!), so if you don't mind, can you help me step by step?
To answer you point 1: yes, the WAP is connected to the WAG by ethernet. But what do you mean by Make sure the Gateway and Primary DNS on the WAP4400n is pointing to the WAG300N (192.168.1.1) ? If you mean thatm each unit's antenna point to the other, the answer is yes.
You say set the wireless tab with a SSID differently from any wireless devices, but can use the same security mode and password. Can you elaborate on that? I have a few internet radios around the house and this is precisely also why I was advised to buy the WAP 4400N.
Point 2: I have done a soft reset by pressing for 1 second as advised on the cisco's website. It seems to have improved the connectivity quite a bit. Do I still need to do a hard reset?
Point 3: I have downloaded the latest sofware as you recommended. You say: This is accomplished by typing in the address bar: 192.168.1.245.
But how do I enter the 192.168.1.245??? I have tried to connect my laptop via an ethernet cable directly to the WAP 4400N, and entered the DNS but it was not accepted. Do I need to enter it via the WAG 300N which in turn wil tranmit it by itseld to the WAP?
Point 4: it is precisely the WAP that I want to power via the PoE. But when I remove the power supply, it just goes blank, and the LED of PoE on the unit does not light up. Why not?
Many thanks for your help and patience. My big problem in Dubai is that opur helpline is only for lome units from Linksys, and the guys say that they are not trained to answer questions about the business unit. The 800 number for Saudi Arabia, but this is another country, and the number is not accessible from Dubai.
    Kind regards

  • Trouble changing admin PW on WRV 210

I just got a WRV 210 wireless router (three of them actually, planning to set up a VPN). But I can't set the admin password. I've tried 4 times, and every time, i'm forced to hold the reset button to reset to factory settings in order to access the management pages!
I enter the new password in both fields, and then click to save the settings. It restarts. Then i try to log in - and it doesn't accept the new password. It doesn't accept the default password. I've tried with admin/(new password) and (new password)/(new password), and admin/admin. None of them work, forcing me to reset router to factory settings.
I've tried a password composed of 6 letters followed by a . Thinking that maybe the . was throwing it off, I tried 6 letters followed by 3 numbers. That doesn't work either.
I've updated to firmware version 2.0.1.5. Same results.
I'm not making a typo - this has happened 4 times in a row, and the two fields need to match, so it's not belivable that it's a typo.
Does anyone have any ideas here?
    Thanks!

Hi Spence---My name is Rick Roe and I work in the Cisco Small Business Support Center.  I took this to the lab and I am successsful in changing the ADMIN password. I also upgraded the firmware to 2.0.1.5 on the router and after it rebooted I reset the router back to factory defaults. I then proceeded to change the password again and it works each time that I change it. When I hit submit on the password change it does take a minute or two to give me the login screen. Are you waiting till it gives you the login screen to try logging in with the new password?  If you continue to have problems with this, please give us a call at 1-866-606-1866 so we can troubleshoot with you on this.

  • 4400N - WPA2 - bug

We are using 2 of these with WPA2 authentication/encryption - intended for use on our corporate network. AP is not configured to route/PORT FORWARD or anything fancy. DHCP is disabled as we have a DHCP server on the same subnet the LAN and Wireless interfaces are configured for on the AP. I simply want these to authenticate my hosts via WPA2 and allow us to roam between 2 or 3 of the APs.
Anyway, this setup works great for a couple days (users can connect wirelessly, authenticate via RADIUS and WPA2) AND roam between Access Points. Then, after 2 days or so the layer 3 connectivity between laptops and the AP suddenly stops. Rebooting laptops and APs has no effect. When roaming between APs I see my Mac-address showing up on the appropriate ports on the Catalyst switch these are connected to -- I also see the authentication retry show up and process appropriately on the RADIUS/DHCP servers. I never lose connection to the different APs -- except for the problem that I am no longer connected at layer 3. Can no longer ping gateways, APs DHCP/RADIUS servers etc.
Problem seems to be that the ARP/MAC tables on the APs flake out after 48-72 hours. VERY IRRITATING. If I reset to factory defaults and then reconfigure the EXACT same settings - it works great again for 2-3 days...
Packet captures on the DHCP/RADIUS servers etc. all show up fine -- which clearly puts the problem with these APs...

    Hi Helm
    I've tried all the combinations:
    PSK-Personal : TKIP
    PSK-Personal : AES
    PSK2-Personal : AES
    PSK2-Personal : TKIP or AES
Have also tried to tweak the Advanced Wireless Settings for the different comboes with no luck. The wireless connection will only stay on for a while and then suddenly drops
The funny thing is that the pc looks like it's still connected but there's no "hole" through to the Internet/network. I'm also not able to ping the router. To get online again I have to run a ipconfig release/renew of the IP-address.
FYI: I have 5 different laptops (with newest updates/drivers) that has the same problem. So it's not a driver/network card issue.
The only way I can get the router stable is to set it to WEP/128 bit encryption. That's why I'm suspecting that there might be a bug in the WPA/WPA2 mode.
