WRVS4400N Issues

Ok I've been stupid :/ I bought this Wireless Router because of its VPN capability and N connectivity. When I installed this router everything seems fine until the day after. after some hours my machines are unable to get an IP adres from this router, only my wired machines get a IP adres. VPN access doesn't work, I always get "Verifying Network" and it stucks there. So I started reading on the I'net,.......... o my god then I came to the conclusion that almost everybody has troubles with this expensive router that doesn't seem to work and Linksys failed to give his users an answer! So my question is there somebody who got this router working and stable? Are there any tips or tricks I missed to get this machine working?

I found some kind of Silver bullet :/
First of all the different language/country websites have different downloads on there site. For example on the Belgium website of linksys there is no firmware download possible. Only the Quickvpn client can you download there.
The American Website is the most updated one I found.
I got my router now working for 2 weeks without any reset . What I did:
1ste I've downgraded the firmware to 1.0.16 with the wrvs4400n recovery tool.
2th I have set my Wireless to B/G only (N disabled)
this setup seems stable, my router is now working for about 2 weeks without any problem.
Maybe this B/G setup also works on the newer firmware, but I'm glad the thing is up and running and I don't want to mess it up again
So if anybody with the newer firmware could test the B/G only stability

  • QuickVPN timeout to WRVS4400N issue

I am using QuickVPN (1.4.1.2) on Win7 Pro, connecting to a WRVS4400Nv2 running the latest firmware (2.0.1.3).  After an extended time of usage (approx 45-60min - per the log below), the tunnel drops (The remote gateway is not responding.  Do you want to wait?).
I can immediately remote into my router for configuration.  I can use RDP over a port forwarded rule.  But I cannot re-establish the tunnel under the same ID, or even a different ID.  The router is unresponsive to QuickVPN for approximately 5-10 minutes - even though it accepts the other processes fine, and routes to the internet fine for office users, and protects against external attacks.
The QuickVPN LOG looks like this:

After 5-10 minutes, I can reconnect to the router, for another 45-60 minutes, before I get booted again.  I thought is was firmware, since this latest firmware addresses some specific QuickVPN issues, but it has not been resolved.  Does anyone have a suggested solution for the issue?

I have very similar situation with ckunkel.
I set up WRVS4400n router and VPN settings, I can connect my outside PC to router with QuickVPN client, but after serveral times of connection or some duration of connection, router stops accepting any more VPN connection.
Only different point, I can't resolve this situation except rebooting router. Once I get router's VPN hung-up, I can't connect VPN any more without rebooting.
Router's firmware is V2.0.2.1, and QuickVPN is Ver 1.4.2.1.
This situation is veri inconvenient for our office, because once somebody outside of office starts faied VPN connection, all other staffs in office have to stop using internet, and have to wait rebooting router.
Does anyone in Cisco recognize this problem and know how to resolve this?

  • More wrvs4400n issues

I honestly don't understand how cisco can release a product like this.  It's soo flakey and unrealiable.  So far in order to get my 4400nv1 running I've had to use the recovery utility just to load firmware onto it (that was a 16hour ordeal!!) then it takes 2 tries (with regularity) to upgrade to the next level of firmware.  All this just to get the device stable enough to support a wireless connection.  I still have not been able to get it on the internet with any acceptable level of performance.
So far the best I can get this router to do is have 50% packet loss on the the WAN interface.  I've tried disabling the DMZ,  IPS, WAN access  but alwaly I have 50% packet loss.  These devices should be recalled.!!!  my 5 year old Netgeat MR814 works better than this.  this devices just has me frustrated.  I work regularely with Fortinet products and they are much better and more reliable.  the only reason I'm trying this out is It was given to me.
does anyone have a fix for 50% packet loss on these things!  This is just stupid!

    Same feelings
Great User Interface indeed-horrible with reliability. Conigured with  same sattings as replaced v.1 and can't stay connected for more than an  Hour. Not a defective unit though-programmed 2 others same way and very  same results-wireless drops almost immidiately, then can't access  Router config and after few hours complete restart-nothing works.
Using wireless on Channel free of interference, besides that 4 IPSec tunnels-those stay alive until the end.

  • WRVS4400N issue out of the box. Can't connect to the unit for setup.

As mentioned, I cannot get a dhcp address from this unit to my notebook for configuration. I have tried manually assigning an ip address in the 192.168.1.1 network and it doesn't work wither. I tried another machine and still the same problem. I also reset the unit twice.
So far I can't do anything with this unit right out of the box.
    Anyone have a fix?

  • WRVS4400N FTP Server Time-out Issue

I recently installed a Linksys WRVS4400N wireless router.  After installing it, I began to experience an FTP connectivity issue.  (I use Macromedia Dreamweaver to do my web site file transfers.)   Although I can connect to my web servers and log in successfully, as soon as I attempt to transfer any files to the sites, I get a "Waiting for server..." error, and then eventually I lose the connection.
I tried disabling the firewall and IPS functions of the router, but that did not solve the problem.  I then uninstalled the WRVS4400N and reinstalled my old Symantec Firewall Appliance 100, and FTP file transfers worked fine, as they had before.  I then reinstalled the Linksys router, and the problem returned.
Obviously, the Lynksys device is causing this problem, but I can't figure why.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Similar issue resolved this AM. When I called they already knew of the issue and I read some posts about updating to a beta firmware HOWEVER, they first instructed me to 1) re-download the firmware (encase of prior corrupted download) 2) backup my Settings 3) reflash the firmware 4) try FTP (which worked) 5) restore settings I was extremely dubious about this working, but low and behold, Filezilla is back up and running properly. I am rather surprised myself. Else just call, they already know of the issue.

  • Certificate Host Naming Issue with WRVS4400N

When accessing the WRVS4400N v1.00.16 for Remote Administration or QuickVPN, I get an error indicating that the certificate host name does not match the host name of the WRVS4400N. Is this a an issue with the certificate generated by the WRVS4400N or is there a method of changing the host name of the WRVS4400N to match that of the certificate? I noticed that the name on the certificate is WRVS4400N and the router name is linksys.

I have not been able to generate a certificate to place in the QuickVPN directory. I must be missing something. I looked in the VPN Tab, VPN advanced settings button and VPN Client Accounts tab. I can not find a button to generate a certificate to place in the QuickVPN directory. The only way I get a certificate is by https of the router from the LAN or WAN and exporting it from Internet Explorer. In the mean time, I placed the certificate in my certificate stores under the trusted authority store. Is there a button missing to generate a certificate or do I simply not get it? Both are possible.

  • WRVS4400N ongoing issues

    Gentlemen,
may I rise some ongoing issues about WRVS4400N V1.1 (FW: latest: V1.1.13-ETSI):
    - Bug: The general log logs the events without daylight saving time (in opposite to the IPS log which shows the time correctly)
    - Router Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) Signature-1.42 (03/JUN/2010) is now more than a year old! Hard to imagine, that it is still up-to-date. I would rather expect, that it will be updated every month at least, if not automatically at all! And despite several promises in this blog, CISCO did not update it up to now.
    - Latest Firmware (WRVS4400N v1.0 and v1.1 firmware version 1.1.13, 25/FEB/2009) is even more than 2.5 years old. Is there any intention by CISCO to still support the V1.1 version??
May CISCO provide a comment on these, I would very much appreciate.
    Sincerely,

    Hi,
It's the first thing I did, I tried with a spare WAG300N (modem/router) and it connects but gives some errors too before connecting...
That's why I think the problem comes from the provider even if the other modem connects it gives the same kind of errors as you can see in this logs... (Probably a question of tolerance)

  • WRVS4400N - firmware issues and IPS signature update messages

On my WRVS4400N with Firmware Version: V1.1.03 I keep getting the message:
"Your Signature Version is beyond xxx days. Please Update it!"
Cisco/Linksys: about time to update the IPS signature, because I always have the latest available, but you don't update it anymore.
Besides: there are a lot of known issues with this router, but you don't provide us with a new firmware. OK, I did find a beta WRVS4400N_v1108.img on rapidshare, but is this really a Linksys beta? Why don't you publish updates anymore?
I am very disappointed by your service on this matter :-(

    Hi Tom,
Last night I reset the setting to factory default, reinstalled firmware v2.0.2.1 and then restored my settings I backed up. Everything worked great after that but this morning it was down again. Same thing, no network and can't log into the router and forced to cycle the power.
As a "way out there" guess, are there any compatibility issues with certain switches? One thing I did change the past few days was that I took out an older cheap 8-port D-Link Gigabit switch which was maxed-out and replaced it with a Netgear ProSafe 16-port Gigabit switch (model JGS516).
Another thing that has changed is that I have added another network by cascading a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router. I have the WAN port of this router connected to a LAN port on the WRVS4400N router. The WRVS4400N router is using IP 192.168.21.x (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) and the other router is set to 192.169.10.x (subnet mask 255.255.255.0). I may be wrong but I can't see this being an issue. ANy ideas?

  • Issue connecting to WRVS4400N using QuickVPN Client

    Hello,
I am getting the attached error connecting to the WRVS4400N using the QuickVPN.  I get the error from both Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit.  It has worked fine to a long time and then got the error when I tried to connect off of my hotspot and then tried again from home as normal and am always getting the error.  Another user started getting the error a few weeks after me and she is the one using XP.
I have tried to reinstall, running as different compatibility O/S, running as admin, different userid/password, using remote DNS setting, rebooting router twice and many other things.  I can connect to the router via remote management with no issues and it seems to be working okay.
Would appreciate a resolution.  This is causing issues for remote access that is very much needed.
    Thank You!!

  • WRVS4400N Intel 6230 issues?

So I have an WRVS4400N V2 and just got a new laptop with an Intel 6230 Wifi card in it and have an odd problem.
While the laptop is on battery power the network gets massive packet loss.
I originally thought okay maybe defective card but have now learned if I connect to another WiFi AP/router it works fine.
I have tried multiple diferent drivers on the laptop and also set the power transmission on the wifi card to max and still have issues.
Does anyone else have this router and a laptop witht his card and is having problems or able to work? I don't know what to do.
Laptop manufacture says its AP but AP worked fine with old laptop and works fine when laptop is on power and all other devices seem to be fine with the exception of my Xbox 360 that wont connect if I have it on WPA2 but I will post another thread for that.

    Hi all,
it will be great if someone will help me with my problem.
the problem is : our wrvs4400n  wifi router configuration.
network description: we need 2 separated wifi networks one for guests and one for internal access, and i configured them on router, and also configured each one of them to different vlan, guests to vlan 200 and internal use default vlan 1.
vlan 1 configured as dhcp relay and its working pritty well.
vlan 200 configured as dhcp and the problem begins here.
somehow  on vlan 200 i get dhcp from our externam dhcp server,

i guess that my knowlege in networking its not so good......
how can i prevent from our internal dhcp to comunicate with vlan 200 ,
any help will be very appreciated.

    Hi Rich,
You cannot have different L3 VLANs sharing the same subnet.
Each VLAN must have it's own subnet and then you have a routing device routing between both VLANs.
You should have a DHCP pool also for VLAN 111 configured on the DHCP server.
Even if you have ip helper address configured and this should be done on the VLAN111 interface of the switch, you still need a DHCP pool for VLAN 111 because the DHCP discovery is coming on VLAN 111.
Please take a look into this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080665ceb.shtml.
Here it explains how to configure 2 ssids on 2 vlans and dhcp pool (on the switch itself) for each vlan.
    HTH,
    Tiago

  • WRVS4400N PPPoE issue after v2.0.2.1 firmware upgrade

Hi, I have a WRVS4400N v2 router which was working perfect until I've upgraded the firmware to v2.0.2.1. Since then, my router does not save anymore the PPPoE password so I am not able to connect. Does anybody know how can I fix this?

Simon, nothing succedeed. I've cleared the browser cache and also downgraded the firmware from v2.0.2.1 to v2.0.1.3. Basically the router does not save any password under PPPoE menu. I've reset it to factory default, same result.
After filling the password and saving, before router reboot, I see the connection type changing from PPPoE to Automatically connect - DHCP. I do not know if this mean anything or not. Do you have any other ideea?

  • Wrvs4400n firmware 1.0.12 issue

I upgraded the firmware to 1.0.12 and immediately the wireless pc's loose their connection every so many minutes. It's like a cycle periodically dropping every 5 minutes or so. I don't know exactly how many minutes yet. The previous firmware version was 1.0.09 and everything worked fine. If anyone has any ideas, please help. thanks.

Hi, after upgrading the Firmware if the connection through the router is dropping then try to reset the router by holding and pressing the reset on the back panel for 30second. Then you can reconfigure the router again. This will resolve the issue of the connection being dropped.

  • WRVS4400N Bandwidth Rate Control Issue

    Dear All,
I just purchased a WRVS4400N VPN Security Router V2 and the main reason was for me to be able to segregate between VLANs and to be able to control bandwidth. Now I have tried everything possible to control Bandwidth using Rate Control. I have a 40Mbps downstream connection with a 16Mbps Upstream. I Have my servers connected to a VLAN 1 and my users Connected to VLAN 2. I tried limiting all the IP addresses from 192.168.2.50~200 to a max of 1000Kbps (1Mbps) Upstream on all Applications in order to leave the rest of the bandwidth for my servers...
I tried every thing but it wouldn't work..
I thought the problem was that the users are connected wirelessly, but even being connected directly to the ports doesn't work.
I tried with IPS on and off..
I disabled DHCP and gave the users static IPs..
A lot of other configurations also didn't work...
If there is something I need to know or if there is a special combination that needs to be set I would be really glad to hear anyone's opinion on this..
    Thanks a lot in advance..

Can you post the log for the root bridge both with direct pc's attached and then showing when you connect them back to the switches?
