WRVS4400N WAP4410N problems

I have an WRVS4400N configured as a WAN and Wireless router and can connect clients (PC's and laptops) wirelessly thru out the office. The clients that are farther away (10-15 meters and on another floor) connect at a very slow rate i.e. less than 10MBps. I have a WAP4410N configured as a repeater. Immediately after powering up it will allow connections to the 4400 and clients work fine for a 1-2 minutes, then the connections drop and I can no longer connect through the 4410. Nor can I ping the 4410 through the 4400 although right after the pwr cycle I am able to ping the 4410. After another pwr cycle the 4410 is available for another short period.
I have attached some info on the configuration of the units and I also have the configuration files available.
I really need this network to be stable and any help would be appreciated.
Bob

Hi,
I  setup the WAP4410N to Client/Repeater and once I did the site survey  and chose the WRVS440N router SSID, it automatically changed the  WAP4410N SSID to the same SSID as the WRVS440N.
I only added the security type to match the WRVS440N one.
I also tried WDS repeeater mode option and still did not work.
in the WRVS440N I enable the WDS mode and chose the SSID of the WAP4410N.
I am not sure if there is something I missed.
Please advise.

  • WRVS4400N Connection Problems

I tried to install a new WRVS4400N router in our main office that has a Static IP address to allow our 5 remote offices that have BEFVP41 routers with dynamic IP's and was unable to connect.
We currently have a BEFVP41 in the main office but it is approximately 5 years old and I want to start replacing the BEFVP41's with newer routers.
I configured the new WRVS4400N with all of the existing VPN tunnels and when I connected it in the main office I received these error messages that I have posted below from the VPN log.
Can anyone tell me what some of these message mean and where my configuration on the new WRVS4400N might me wrong and causing the problem?
Has anyone on the forum been able to connect a BEFVP41 to a WRVS4400N successfully?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Kevin
Please disregard the dates.  Not sure why it says April 24th as I did this last week during the 2nd week of May.

I received the security update today so I downloaded the newest release - WRVS4400Nv2-fw-2.0.1.3-K9 and will install it as soon as I can. Putting it back to Factory Defaults will not be an option. I had to call your support line to have them walk me through opening the router up to accept our new cable offering of 50MBS/5MBS. The router was throttling the speeds. I will need to keep those settings. Now that I have turned off one of the wireless SSID broadcasts it seems to be doing better... cross my fingers and knock on wood! I am concerned as we are getting ready to add on 12 to 14 more users in the next year.
Who or where would I need to talk with someone about the 891?

  • WAP4410N problems, slightly different than the previous ones

    Hello,
I've just purchased a WAP4410N-E V02 for home use and I'm experiencing some strange problems.  Whenever the device is close to other electrical devices, it slows down until it eventually grinds to a halt, sometimes requiring a power cycle.  I can ping the AP, or my gateway (over the wireless connection), and the ping times go from 1-20ms to 15,000ms+.  After a certain amount of time, the wireless connection completely dies and the AP isn't even reachable over the wired network (no ping, no http).
By close, I mean like 1m away in some cases, or less in other cases.  Since this is for home use, it's a bit of a problem, as my placement options are quite limited.  Here are the 2 scenarios:
    1) close to my vdsl modem/router
the wireless-G connection on the router is turned off.
    Distance is 1m.
The AP is plugged into the router.
This setup is completely unusable, as it instantly becomes slow.  If I pull it away about 2m and place the AP on the floor, it works fine.
    2) plugged into my switch close to the tv/pvr (tv over ip)
    Distance is up to 2m.
When the tv is on by itself, no problem
When the pvr is on, the AP starts becoming unstable.
If I turn the pvr off, it recovers (unless I left it on long enough, then it gets stuck for good and never recovers).
So I can really reproduce these problems now.  At first I thought it was completely random and I was trying all sorts of different ideas like changing channels, changing ssid settings, etc..
Am I really putting this device in situations where it wasn't designed to work?  Just because it's a small business device, I don't see why it shouldn't work 1m away from a home VDSL modem, or 2m away from a tv tuner/pvr.  I can't really mount it high up on the wall, away from all interference because it wouldn't look so nice.  I guess home use has different priorities.
Also, seeing how other people have certain unexplainable problems with these devices, could it be related?  I don't know how their setups are, but I can say that the behaviour is similar to other posts that I've read.
What is the proper way to proceed with this problem?  Do I just return it to the store?  Do I need an RMA?  Or does Cisco have some recommendations that I can try so I don't have to return it?  I'm quite disappointed that I've lost a whole day trying to diagnose these issues.  I was hoping that if I spend a bit more money on a business-grade product, I would save time with trying to figure out the quirks of most home products, but it seems to be the opposite in this case.
As a note, I have done the following, as per previous posts regarding this AP:
    - using A/C adapter, not POE
    - Hardware reset
    - Install firmware 2.0.4.2
    - set wired port to 100mbps
    - single SSID, WPA2-Personal, 11 character a-z key
    - B/G/N Mixed,
    - Channel 11 (tried Auto as well)
    - Key renewal 36000
    - disabled connection control
    - 802.11d disabled, Germany, 20MHz bandwidth

See all the settings available in XLD and that will give you an idea as to how ripping could potentially vary between rippers. I don't know the details of how iTunes works but error detection has a lot of different settings with XLD.  iTunes does some too, but I don't think the details are publicly available for comparison.
It may not only vary with the rip settings but also with the encode settings if you are using mp3 or AAC.

  • WRVS4400N DHCP problems

    Hello,
I have a new router (obvious) but it seems to have problems with DHCP and also problems when using N function, especially on the 40 MHz band.
First I thought the wireless NIC would be the problem but when I used another wireless NIC from a third party the same problems exists.
The only stable connection I get is if I give the wireless NIC a fixed ip address.
Router is an WRVS4400N version 1.1. The firmware has his newest version that I could find in the download section. Router has been reset to factory settings a few times.
The documentation is not very clear because it differs with the router functionality.
Router is configured to be used in Europe.
I hope someone can help me out or even point me to a newer version of this device.
Message Edited by NoobUser on 10-19-2008 01:53 PM

I had the same issue that with the WRVS4400N 1.1.03.
After I reviewed these email threads and upload the 1.1.08 version, it is still the same, the problem cannot be resolved.
    My scenario is:
    1. DHCP does not assign any IP address to the wireless devices if there is no wired-LAN device connected to one of the LAN ports.
    2. Once this wired-LAN device is connected to the router and got an IP address, the rest of the wireless devices got that too.
i.e. DHCP is not functioned properly. Can anyone advise how to resolve this problem? There is no new firmware update other than the 1.1.03 and 1.1.08(this is a special one and is not available on the web)

  • WAP4410N - Problems logging in to web admin from Apple MAC

I recently installed a WAP4410N for a customer without any problem, but a few days later I received a call requesting assistance as the customer could not login to the web admin page.
The login screen was showing, but it wasn't acceptingthe username and password that I had set.
Today I visited customer to investigate.
I discovered that I could login without any problem using my Windows laptop, but that customer could not use any of their Apple MACs to login.
Apart from one Windows PC, all customer computers were Apple OS.
Customer could login using their Windows PC without any problem.
Can anyone advise a solution to this problem?

  • WRVS4400N network problems

I'm having a problem getting my computers on my local network seeing eachother. Of course I switched from a Linksys EFSP42 switch/print server so it's a little more complicated now. All computers (2 hard wired, 1 wireless) can access the internet and all firewalls are shut down. There's some setting that I'm missing.
Also, there's another problem while I'm accessing secure sites. The warning window at the top of internet explorer pops up and says, "intranet settings are now turned off by default. Intranet settings are less secure than internet settings". So far I can ping all computers in my network. I've also done a Shields Up security test and it's pathetic. Only a few ports are stealth with the rest of them being open.

i think your problem with the secured sites has something to do with the security settings of your browser

  • WRVS4400N -- authentication problem after modifying UPnP router setting

After I enable or disable UPnP on the WRVS440N, save, and then navigate to any settings tab, I am prompted to re-authenticate with the router.  I am then unable to authenticate to the router using the router's username/password credentials, however, I am able to enter admin/admin to access the router.  If I reboot the router, the problem is fixed.  Have others encountered this problem?    Thanks.  (Firmware version V1.1.03).

Good advice.  Thanks  I can recreate the problem.  I reset the router and the problem was initially resolved.  However, when  I started to reapply port-forward settings, among others…and then I enabled 'Dual-Stack IP,' the router rebooted, and the original problem remerged.  Subsequent to the reboot of the router, I enabled/disabled UPnP and had to reauthenticate to the router with userid=admin, password=admin, even though I had already updated that user list entry with my new credentials.
I suppose that if this problem went undetected by the person configuring the router, anybody on the subnet, or potentially someone probing for this exposure from the Internet, could access the router.  I had configured the remote-management option on the default port of 8080, and I was able to https in over that port from the Internet-wan side of the router, and authenticate using admin/admin until I rebooted the router.

  • Latest QuickVPN(v1.3.0.3) reports "WGET.exe has encountered a problem..." with WRVS4400N

I have a WRVS4400N(latest firmware V2.0.0.7) and am trying to connect to it for the first time using the latest QuickVPN v1.3.0.3 installed on a Windows XP Professional (w/SP3) computer. Installation of QuickVPN with no errors, but as soon as I ran it and tried to connect, it reported "wget.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience...". I tried it on another machine, also with XP Prof SP2 - same error.  I have looked at the soultion in other similar threads of removing spaces and that did not resolve the issue.  Please let me know if any one has a solution to this problem.

It sems that the problem was with the Quick VPN client. Please try to download a copy of the QVPN from the Linksys site and try to re-install it on your computer. Please make sure that the previously installed QVPN has been remove before you reinstall it.

  • Problem using WRVS4400n with WPA4410n as Repeater

    hi there,
we're using a WRVS4400n with V2.0.0.8-ETSI as Router and WLAN Access.
    - Network Mode: N-Only
    - Channel: 13
    - Secutity: WPA2
    - Isolation: disabled
    - Bandwith: 20/40
    - Signal is allowed to be repeated
Now we installed a new WAP4410n with 2.0.3.3 as repeater to get a better connection in some places.
We configured the WAP with the same wireless setting as the Router, and also configured both with site survery,
    so everything looked fine.
But if we unplug the ethernet from WAP we can't access him through the wlan.
LED  for WLAN is on but not blinkin so that it seems that there is no  traffic. Also the wireless connectivity did not getting better.
    Hope someone can help us.
    Thanks

interested in how you got the WAP54G to act as a repeater for your e2000. were you able to do this wireless or did you have to hardwire. I have only had success hardwired and really would like to be completely wireless.

  • Linksys WRVS4400N / Netgear SC101T problem ...

    Hi!
I recently upgraded from my old WRT54G to the new WRVS4400N. A few weeks before I upgraded I also bought a new NAS (Netgear SC101T, 1 GBit EN, 2 x 500 GB HDDs, mirrored, redundant, different manufacturers) but I found the fast EN (100 MBit) on the WRT54G to be the bottleneck of this setup as my notebook also supports 1 GBit EN.
So, to finally benefit from the GBit-EN I upgraded to the WRVS4400N (firmware version V1.00.12-ETSI). However, I do not get the SC101T to run with the new router?!? Installing the SC101T under Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 (up to date) with the original software as provided by Netgear was no problem. The NAS connected without any problems and I have been using the NAS quite often since for backups.
However, after upgrading to the WRVS4400N the SC101T is no longer accessible. The status LEDs for power, disks and ethernet signal that everything runs fine. Openening the DHCP Client table on the WRVS4400N shows that the NAS is recognised as:
    'Client Host Name: MicroSAN Base[0]
    IP: 48.48.48.45 or 48.48.48.48
    MAC: 30:30:30:30:30:30'
    or
    'Client Host Name: Root[1]:52315352
    IP: 48.48.48.48
    MAC: 02:18:4D:74:43:89'
    or
    'Client Host Name: 11A4F5D6-0AF4-11
    IP: 52.49.70.52
    MAC: 02:18:4D:73:874'
(plus seconds that indicate how long this IP address will be valid, a mere 60 sec ...)
I have my WRVS4400N acting as a DHCP server, address is 192.168.2.1, identical to the address I used on the WRT54G. I have about 28 IP addresses left to be assigned by the DHCP server.
Clicking on 'L2 Switch' -> 'Port Settings' shows the NAS to be connected at 1000Mbps Full Duplex, Auto negotiation, flow control activated, max frame 1518.
I am using Agnitum Outpost Firewall, v4.0.1007.7323 (591) but it does not matter whether it is active, inactive or fully deactivated.
Any hints? There are a lot of pictures (=all) of our newborn daughter stored on the NAS, so I do want to be able to access the NAS again ...
    Thanks!
    Cheers Lars

    hi!
Have you tried assigning static IP on your NAS?  Is that the only thing that did not work on the router? Is firmware V1.00.12-ETSI came with the router? (out of the box)
I checked the Linksys website and found out that the latest firmware for WRVS4400N was 1.00.15. If putting a fixed IP on your NAS did not work, maybe you can reset the router and reconfigure or try the latest firmware. I hope it helps.

  • WAP4410N PoE (and other) Problems

    Hi!
I own two WAP4410N-E V02 Access Points and I am (too) experiencing loads of problems even after upgrading both to the BETA Software Version 2.0.5.2
As most other users keep reporting, the router, for no apparent reason, will stop allowing connections after a given amount of time. The maximum I got my AP to stay "working" was for almost 19.5 hours!!! Several of £9.99 Netgear DG384G have stayed connected for YEARS without a SINGLE failure!!!
The MOST annoying problem I have is that my WAP4410N-E V02 Access Point is NOT working with PoE and I am having the exact same problem as described on here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2122117 and my PoE is NOT a "green" PoE EEE (Energy-efficiet Ethernet) 802.3az PoE, just in case Cisco support try to blame the PoE!
And before you ask, my PoE Switch is fully IEEE 802.3af (Power over  Ethernet) compatible and delivers up to 12.5 Watts per port where the WAP4410N-E V02 has a Max power draw of 10.1W....
    1) With cable connected in Wireless AP connect other end of cable to PoE switch
    2)  POE indicated lights up on Wireless AP, followed by Yellow (right  hand-side) LED on switch port and POWER lights up on wireless AP
    3) Green (left hand-side) LED on switch port blinks together with ETHERNET light on Wireless AP
    4) POWER on Wireless AP blinks followed by ETHERNET on Wireless AP
    5) WIRELESS on Wireless AP lights up
    6) Suddenly all LEDs on Wireless switch off and POE dims to off followed by LEDs on swtich port
    7) the above will start all over again!!!
The same PoE switch successfuly delivers PoE to other PoE devices including one device with higher demands than the Cisco AP!
The SAME problem happens even if I disconnect all other devices and the PoE switch has up to 38.5 Watts available!!!
Also to point out that after a factory reset the AP gets an IP address of 192.168.1.245, but NO other network info via DHCP so the only way to configure it is to directly connect it to a PC! This is just unacceptable!
I am deeply unhappy with this product and the amounts of hours I have spent configuring it, testing it, re-booting it, upgrading it etc etc
I have never had a single problem like this with any of my netgear products and cisco supposed to be better and it is more expensive!
So why are we paying the extra money for? The name? Because is not for the quality for sure!!!!
I will NEVER EVER not only buy another single Cisco product, but as an IT Consultant, I will NEVER, EVER sugest CISCO for ANYHTING, except if Cisco admits that this product was a total failure and agrees to replace it straight away with another (hopefully more tested) product!
In here I can see nothing but problems (and exaclty the same problems may I add) with everyone! And all Cisco is trying to do is blame others like "it is the fault of the "PoE" switch, "have you checked this" or "have you checked that"
Come on Cisco! Admit that the product was a failure and agree to replace it for eveyone that was unluky enough to buy it! At the end of the day, most of us are IT specialists that have better things to spend their billable hours on than trying to resolve problems on a product that was a total failure!
If Cisco support wants me to spend more hours to try silly suggestions, usless firmware and try to blame other equipment that works well with ALL OTHER probucts connected to it EXCEPT the WAP4410N, I have no problem with that, but please give me your billing address so I can charge you my wasted hours on testing your product directly. I have no problem with that.
I will exept nothing else than replacement with a better product with similar feautures! Not more waiting for a year at a time for firmware updates that do NOTHING!
    George, London, UK.

    Hello ry:
See my suggestion above (archive and install). I would not spend anymore time with arcane UNIX commands - they are not, IMHO, going to fix anuything. An archive and install will install a fresh OS X while, at the samne time, preserving files, programs, and settings. You will, of course, need to run software update after the A&I. It is always good practice to back up before any software update.

  • WRVS4400N Problems

Hi,I recently installed a WRVS4400N router on my home network. Prior to that I was using the wireless built into my FIOS router. I wanted something more secure so I went with the WRVS4400N. I turned off the FIOS wireless and am only using the cisco wireless.
Im having intermittent issues with the wireless. I have many things hooked up to my wireless including a HP printer and a Sonos system. Most of the time if I just open my ipad I cannot see anything else on my network including the printer. If I try to see the Sonos system can cannot, sometimes I can open the app on my iphone and then I can see it.
Sometimes I can see the printer and sometimes I cant. Sometimes when I do see it and then print to it, it will be gone before it even prints.
I don’t seem to have any issues thru the LAN connections.
Also, ive noticed that the wifi is much slower than the old FIOS box.
FYI, when I remove the cisco and fire back up the FIOS wifi I don’t have any problems at all at any time. And its much faster.
I have tried channel 6, 11 and auto. Also turned off IPC and still no change.
Any idesas or help would be appreciated.
    Thank You

Hi Tony my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. In order to resolve your problem, can you check your device firmware? You have to have to latest one, that is 2.0.2.1, you can download it in cisco.com
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282414016&catid=268437899&softwareid=282487380
After the firmware update, you can do a factory reset to your device (Always make a back up of you r information).

  • Wireless roaming problem (WAP4410n)

Hello, I have two WAP4410n and I want to use it in roaming mode. All two points configured to use same SSID, psk-key, but used different channels (5 and 9). The problem is that sometime second point is not accessible until I restart it. I connect to the wlan using first point than move to the room with second and there is no roamig. Is this a point problem or bad settings?

Hi llya, I assume you mean to say using as a repeater.
The AP has a couple known issues
CSCts76476—The access point may periodically experience loss of
connectivity when configured in bridge mode. Workaround: Unplug the
power adaptor or PoE cable, and then plug it back in.
    • CSCtx62203—In certain environments and traffic model, the WAP4410N
may lockup after some undetermined time. Workaround: Reboot the
    device.

  • WAP4410N - IP problem - limited connectivity

    Hello,
My network is configured this way:
Router -> Cisco Access Point WAP4410N (default AP mode) -> 1st repeater -> 2nd repeater
I can connect through router (used as DHCP) and Cisco AP. It seems that from Cisco AP signal is not passed further the right way. The problem occurs when connecting via 1st or 2nd repeater. Connectivity is limited with no internet access. If I use static IP (for example 192.168.1.11) everything works.
    Settings of Cisco AP:
    IP: 192.168.1.245
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1
    Repeater 1:
    IP: 192.168.1.24
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1
    Repeater 2:
    IP: 192.168.1.25
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1
