WRVS4400N with Sky Broadband router

Hi
I recently purchased WRVS4400N.  Though I am having problems trying to configure the WRVS4400N to work with my ISP's (Sky Broadband) router which in essence is a customised Netgear router.
Basically I want the WRVS4400N to handle all networking aspects such as WiFi, DHCP etc and for the ISP's supplied router to handle just the internet connection.  So far I have switched the ISP's WiFi off, turned off DHCP though unable to get the correct setting on the WRVS4400N to use just the internet connection.  Any help with trying to set this up would be good ?
Thanks
Andrew

I believe that the WRVS4400N router is one of the latest high end wireless router from Linksys, it has Wireless N capability, DHCP, and VPN. If you just want to use this router for DHCP and Wireless, you can just use the default settings in which DHCP and Wireless were enable by default. I also remeber that the default IP address of this router is 192.168.1.1 in which you can be able to access the configuration page for settings modification.

  • Does it work with Sky modem/router?

    Hi folks,
does the airport express base station work with Sky broadband?
I want to connect the base station to my router via ethernet cable (in 2 different rooms) and use it to extend my wireless range, and print wirelessly.
Anybody done this with the standard issue sky modem/router?
    Cheers

    Hi
The 'standard issue' modem/router as provided by Sky used to be the NetGear DG834G IIRC? If it still is this model then yes it works. IMO it's best to attach the AE and use it in Bridge Mode. Depends on what you want to achieve though.

  • TS1398 have been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any idea

my ipad 4 has been connected to my wireless network using a netgear sky broadband router succesfully for a few weeks, suddenly can't connect, network is showing but no signal - all other wireless gadgets are connected just fine - including iphone - any ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • HT1515 Can I use Air Port express as a signal extender for SKY Broadband router in UK?

Can I use Air Port express as a signal extender for SKY Broadband router in UK?

You are going to have to turn OFF Wifi on the Sky router device so its just a modem.
String an Ethernet cable off of the Sky router to an Apple Airport/Time Capsule device and have that create a stable WiFi network.
Using WDS protocols you can now add additional Apple Airport expresses as needs be to extend the Wifi signal area.
In theory you should able to extend an existing network however inter-operability between differing manufacturers is flaky at best.
Caveat using extenders Will degrade the performance of your network.
So its going to be more expensive - Need Two Airport devices and you my need support in creating the network (you may have to log in to the Sky provided routers advanced settings in the Java Control Panel and from a web browser to turn off features such as Wifi and IP addressing)
You may be better contacting Sky as they may actually have a compatible network extender (BT certainly do for their Home Broadband routers) available.

  • Can i use time capsule as the router with sky broadband

how do i use time capsule as the router. I contacted my internet provider  which is Sky who had no info other than to suggest trying a sky forum.

It depends on the type of modem they gave you.. and if you can bridge it.
I suspect you cannot use the TC in router mode with sky.. but tell us more.. if it is adsl and they accept pppoe then you can get it to work.. otherwise no.. just use the TC in bridge.

  • TS1398 I have gone with Sky broadband today. My iphone connected fine. Then I got an email through & my phone screen froze so I had to switch it off then on again. Since doing this, when I try to reconnect to my router, it won't accept the password saying

I was connected to Sky broadband til my iphone froze. I had to switch it off & back on. Since then it keeps telling me that the password is incorrect when I know it isn't? What do I do?

Enter the correct credentials for the Wi-Fi.
    Power cycle the Wi-Fi router
Forget the network and try again.

  • Mail Setup with Sky Broadband

I've recently switched to Sky Broadband and have to say it was quite painless.. except..
I've set up Mail with the smtp settings for Sky and now find that all my different email accounts use my sky email address when they're posted out.
eg - anything I send from my [email protected] account appears at the other end with the address as [email protected]
I selected the sky smptp server for each account, but didn't expect it to use my sky email address for each one. I did set up authentication which i've never had to do in the past so I'm guessing this might have something to do with it.

I found a solution on : www.skyuser.co.uk which is an independant forum for Sky users.
The problem is something to do wiuth Sky switching their mail to Google's servers. Skyuser are offering an alternative smtp to get round this problem, but another solution is to log in to your Sky email - go into mail settings and there's an option to select "reply using sent email address". You can add all your other email domain addresses there, which involves a quick verification process.

  • Problems with Sky Broadband and Talk services in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire | 05 August 2015

If you live in Alfreton, Clay Cross North Carlton, Tickhill, Whitwell or Worksop we know you're having problems getting online and with making calls this evening.
The problem has been caused by a break in fibre cables near to Chesterfield town centre.
We're working with the local authorities to gain access to the site of the fault.
The latest news we have is that repair work is likely to start late this evening once access has been granted and it could carry on overnight tonight. We'll provide our next this update if we receive any news this evening.
Calls to emergency services are unaffected.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I want to cancel my broadband and Talk services only, keeping my Sky TV. First of all, is this possible?
Second of all, how do I go about this? I don't have a phone and I'm not calling on my mobile with those extortionate charges to be on hold for hours and for Sky to try and "resell" their services etc.
You can cancel your broadband and talk services and keep Sky TV but if you do this and don't have another provider lined up then you will be without both.
Calls to Sky are charged at local rate so if you have free minutes on your mobile with your network operator then calls to Sky are free as they would use these free minutes. Sky will only accept a cancellation by speaking the the account holder.

  • Connectivity with WRK54G Broadband Router

I installed my router late last week and since then my downloads have dropped from around 4700 KBS to around 2100 KBS or less.  Checking the setup with Linksys's diagnostic does not show a problem.
Also, on the other Windows XP computer attached (wirelessly), is there any way to know without a doubt that no one else can piggyback onto my connection?
    Thank you for any replies.

Regarding the slow wired router speed:
    1)  Make sure that any "log" files are turned off, unless you really need them.  Log files waste router CPU cycles.
    2)  Some users have reported that their wired router slowed as a result of radio wave interference on the wireless portion of the router.  Try changeing the router's wireless channel to 11 or 1, and see if that helps.  Unplug 2.4 GHz wireless phones and see if that helps.
    3)  Some users have reported slowdowns due to having an unnecessary "domain name" entered on the router.  Unless you need to use a domain name, make sure that your domain name entry is deleted.
    4)  If your wireless is not secured, others may be using your bandwidth.
    5)  If this does not solve the problem, reflash your firmware, and set up your router again from scratch.
Regarding how to secure your router:
Besides using MAC address filtering and disableing SSID broadcast, you should also encrypt your transmissions.  For more information on this, please see my previous post at:

  • OS 10.6 Airport incompatible with Sky routers

    Hi guys,
this is my first post and also my first month "going mac" as a PC user I always wanted the new stuff even if it was a major step back in some cases...cough*VISTA*cough
anyway i got snow leopard on its release day pretty much (my mac had been working perfect) and once i upgraded airport was being completely sketchy, i can only assume they have not added the support for some back end routers...eg Sky routers (the ones you get with sky broadband)
in the mean time i downgraded back to OS 10.5, and a word of warning: time machine wont be able to recover any backups you made in 10.6 back to 10.5! so you'll need to archive and install if you want to do it

I am using Sky and had some problems with the wireless, to be clear I always use a wired connection but I like to make sure nothing is broken after upgrades. After the upgrade I switched on the wireless on the router and it would not connect. I tried to connect to a Linksys WAG54GS and although there was no internet (not compatible with Sky) the wireless connected and was solid.
The Sky router is a Sagem, not sure which model but I have had Sky since June (and its been good)
So I dumped the file 'com.apple.airport.preferences.plist' onto the desktop, turned off the auto channel setting on the router and made it ch 6, it now works great, I am using it now. Its using WPA-PSK, the router does not seem to have a WPA2 option.
Don't know if this will help but it is working now for me.
    regards

  • DSL AC68u not working with sky ADSL?!

Hi, I am in serious frustration here. Today my Asus DSL AC68u arrived and I've been trying for about 2 hours to get it working. I have 2 major issues:
    1. The DSL line is reported to be "unstable" in the web interface and the DSL light keeps going out on the router itself.
    2. The internet light does not come on AT ALL and when I try and go onto a website it does not work.
Please help, I have gone through the setup process twice, I tried setting up manually and letting it detect settings automatically as well and I have no luck. Remember, I am on ADSL, not fibre. My old Sky SR102 was working fine before I set it up with no issues whatsoever and I don't know what to do. Any ideas? Thank you.

Thanks for the help people but I have doscovered I have problems. Just spent ages on the phone with Sky broadband and there are problems with my service but going to have to wait 72 hours whilst they perform tests and look in to it. Can anyone explain this to me please as I cannot get my simple little head around it.   Sky told me they have boosted my line and I am now getting 7mb, something I have never had and still don't.   I logged in to my router which also confirmed 6969kb and yet my internet is so slow its cringe worthy.   I cannot load Youtube videos or play simple games on facebook and if I perform a broadband speed test with different website they report I am getting around 11 to 12kb. Which is right, was also being offered fiber which I cannot afford but whos to say I wont have trouble with that.

  • Sky broadband, airport extreme and extending the wireless network.

Hi - I am a recent apple convert and as such new to all things mac. My current setup is sky broadband, net gear router, w7 notebook, ipad2 and mac mini. My mac mini is in the studio at the bottom of the Garden and currently has no signal. I am trying to extend the signal using an airport extreme but keep falling at the first hurdle. Connecting the sky router by Ethernet to Airport and trying to setup via utility has got me stumped, the unit just flashes orange. In essence what I am trying to achieve is a network off the sky router through airport that enables all my units to work wirelessly and attach a wireless printer and USB hard drive. Is this going to be achievable or have I wasted my money on the airport extreme unit?
Any help or guidance greatly received.
    Thanks
    AdeP

Hi - thanks for your reply. I have my sky (netgear) broadband router connected to the telephone/broadband point. I have then attached an ethernet cable from the router to the wan port on the back of the airport extreme. When I log into the airport utility it recognises the AEB but it just flashes orange which is where I am stuck.
You mean the Netgear is a broadband modem and router?  If that is the case try disabling the Sky broadband router function as it is not compatible with the AEB. If your router is a wireless router, you will have to disable this function then see if you can connect. If your modem is separate from the router, you have to connect directly to the ethernet port of the modem and skip the Netgear router all together.

  • UK - Any Problems with O2 Broadband

    Hi trusted people,
Opinion always valued - I have had a search of the discussions already, but was wondering has anyone had any specific issues with O2 broadband and their Macs, notably over wi-fi and their iMac G5 and Intel based (nothing but bother with Sky broadband problems with connection drop (another topic)).
    Does accessing MobileMe work swell?
Is it easy to keep secure? Install?
In a fortune position where I can pretty much get any broadband provider, apart from Virgin (not paying their prices), and plugging for O2 for cost and the fact I am limited to 5mb anyway and I have £10 to spend a month.
Any help would be appreciated, going to order at end of week.
    Cheers
    Olly

I have been with 'Be' broaband for years without issue. O2 purchased 'Be' last year and they are basically both the same. So if Be is good O2 are good.
The only difference with O2 is they dont go up to 24 megabits whereas Be do. However to get 24 megabits you need to be very close to your phone exchange.
    But O2 provide a wireless N adsl2+ router.
O2 offer 1:1 contention Sky dont or ever will give you that.
    Does accessing MobileMe work swell?
that is not dependant on O2, mobile me works with any reliable internet connection.
Is it easy to keep secure? Install?
Is what secure? mobile me? that depends where you access it from.
Install, mobile me is not application that you install it is a service. Sure you have to configure your mail for mobile me, but that is easy, and you have a mobile me system preference panel that you configure.
If you can only get 5mb then you are far from the phone exchange, Virgin cable can offer you a faster service if you can get cable in your area.
If you get an iphone or any other O2 phone you can have o2 broadband for £7.34 per month.

  • My iMac and Netgear Router from Sky Broadband are having problems

Hi, I've got a fair amount of knowledge in these area's. I not long switched to Sky Broadband a couple of weeks ago. The problem lies with the connection to the router that they supply for their service, a Netgear DG834GT. The problem is that my connection to the 802.11g network is extremely slow.
My iMac, even tested in the same room shows 20-30% signal. This compared 2 a Windows Vista laptop at 5bars and top speed downstairs, and two PC's (XP) either end of the house with the same normal signal quality.
Contacting Sky Broadband, they assume that the fault is with the iMac and are state that they can't really help because I am not using a wireless adapter supplied by them (If it's even compatible).
Does anyone know the solution to this? I've heard of many other users with similar problems on different Mac's but no-one seems to have a fix.
Also running bootcamp, ive found my signal strenth to me maximum, but my speed to still remain at 22Mb/s peak, and roughly 1-2Mb/s when browsing the internet.
Lastly I have WPA-PSK enabled, and i've tried adjusting wireless channels without having any luck improving the signal. I would be gratefull if anyone knew any ways to fix this problem, thanks
