WRVS4400N / WUSB300N - SSDP problems?

As far as I can tell, this should work - but it doesn't.
I'm using a Linksys WRVS4400N. The 360 is connected to this via a 20 port 10/100 switch (I've also connected it directly). The Vista MCE PC is connected to the network with a Linksys WUSB300N. My main PC is connected directly to the router via cat5, an hdhomerun is connected via the switch, and my stepson's PC also uses a WUSB300N wireless connection.
First things first, what I'm trying to do is move the MCE PC upstairs to the bedroom and use the xbox as a media center extender in the living room. I've disabled the firewall. The devices are on the same subnet (pc = 192.168.1.106 / xbox = 192.168.1.103). Everything else on the PC works. File transfers from the main pc are great, internet connectivity is fine, watching TV from the hdhomerun works ok (not perfect, but I have a few ideas). Also, connecting the PC to the network with cat5 fixes the problem immediately.
When trying to connect the xbox to the wireless PC, neither the xbox or the PC see each other. The xbox DOES appear in the PC's network exlporer. If I try to connect the xbox to the PC via media sharing, the xbox will see the PC eventually if I go to the media blade, connect and leave it sit long enough - but it won't actually establish a connection.Trying to add the xbox as an extender in media center hangs on locating the extender.
This is a fresh install of Vista Home Premium, all updates installed. The PC itself is a Dell 530s (e6420, 2gb, evga 8400gs and two ati theater 550 pro analogue tuners) that I got a great deal on (other PCs, I built).
rough drawing of the network
Any ideas?

I'm having similar issues with a WRT350N and the WUSB300N (and trying to use the XBox360 as an extender).  Did you ever get a resolution?

  • Linksys WRVS4400N / Netgear SC101T problem ...

    Hi!
I recently upgraded from my old WRT54G to the new WRVS4400N. A few weeks before I upgraded I also bought a new NAS (Netgear SC101T, 1 GBit EN, 2 x 500 GB HDDs, mirrored, redundant, different manufacturers) but I found the fast EN (100 MBit) on the WRT54G to be the bottleneck of this setup as my notebook also supports 1 GBit EN.
So, to finally benefit from the GBit-EN I upgraded to the WRVS4400N (firmware version V1.00.12-ETSI). However, I do not get the SC101T to run with the new router?!? Installing the SC101T under Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 (up to date) with the original software as provided by Netgear was no problem. The NAS connected without any problems and I have been using the NAS quite often since for backups.
However, after upgrading to the WRVS4400N the SC101T is no longer accessible. The status LEDs for power, disks and ethernet signal that everything runs fine. Openening the DHCP Client table on the WRVS4400N shows that the NAS is recognised as:
    'Client Host Name: MicroSAN Base[0]
    IP: 48.48.48.45 or 48.48.48.48
    MAC: 30:30:30:30:30:30'
    or
    'Client Host Name: Root[1]:52315352
    IP: 48.48.48.48
    MAC: 02:18:4D:74:43:89'
    or
    'Client Host Name: 11A4F5D6-0AF4-11
    IP: 52.49.70.52
    MAC: 02:18:4D:73:874'
(plus seconds that indicate how long this IP address will be valid, a mere 60 sec ...)
I have my WRVS4400N acting as a DHCP server, address is 192.168.2.1, identical to the address I used on the WRT54G. I have about 28 IP addresses left to be assigned by the DHCP server.
Clicking on 'L2 Switch' -> 'Port Settings' shows the NAS to be connected at 1000Mbps Full Duplex, Auto negotiation, flow control activated, max frame 1518.
I am using Agnitum Outpost Firewall, v4.0.1007.7323 (591) but it does not matter whether it is active, inactive or fully deactivated.
Any hints? There are a lot of pictures (=all) of our newborn daughter stored on the NAS, so I do want to be able to access the NAS again ...
    Thanks!
    Cheers Lars

    hi!
Have you tried assigning static IP on your NAS?  Is that the only thing that did not work on the router? Is firmware V1.00.12-ETSI came with the router? (out of the box)
I checked the Linksys website and found out that the latest firmware for WRVS4400N was 1.00.15. If putting a fixed IP on your NAS did not work, maybe you can reset the router and reconfigure or try the latest firmware. I hope it helps.

  • WRVS4400N and WPC4400N Problems

This is part rant and part problem report.I don't know who's listening, maybe someone who knows more than I do.
Let me preface this by telling you I am a reseller of Linksys products and a Linksys Partner. I have had pretty good experience with the products. I am currently installing several of their products a week. I've been doing IT support for over 12 years. I have configured a lot of routers.
So I think why not treat myself to a top of the line router and test out 802.11N at the same time.
    Here is the setup:
Dell D520 with fresh reload of WinXP SP2
    Linksys WRV4400N
    Linksys WPC4400N
First problem was I installed the card with the CDROM it shipped with. Big mistake. The driver and utility would not connect when WPA was configured. Ok my mistake, always download the latest drivers.
Second problem was my HP2600n that is connected to the router was unable to get print jobs. It was connected on the LAN, could ping but print jobs would fail, more on this later.
Third problem is that my wife could no longer get connected to her corporate VPN over this router. They use a Cisco VPN solution. Yes, VPN passthrough is enabled. Hey it  worked fine on my WRT54G! She has a dell D630 with an Intel Pro 2200 WLAN card. It worked PERFECT with the WRT54G.
Fourth problem is the wireless connection would periodically disconnect.
Fifth problem is that I pulled the WRVS4400N and reinstalled the WRT54G and now the Linksys WPC4400N has a fluctuating signal level. The router is in the next room and with my build in Dell WLAN card the signal stays strong.
Yes, I upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest version.
IN regard to problem number two, it turns out the WRVS4400N uses 192.168.1.3 for the WLAN interface. That was the same IP I had on my printer. OK, now you all know that you need to resever 192.168.1.3 on your LAN if you use a WRVS4400N
IN regard to number three, no amount of tinkering allowed the Cisco VPN client to connect. I changed MTU size, turned off the firewall, added port triggers, you name it. Nothing worked but replacing the router. Now this is just supposed to work. I should not need to be a network engineer to make a WRVS4400N work. VPN's are supposed to pass through!!!
In regard to number 4, periodic dropping of Wireless, connection, I tried going to channel 1, even removing wireless security. Nothing seems to work except revert to the Dell WLAN card. This issue was seen on the WRVS4400N and the WRT54G. Acutally worse on the WRT54G and WPC4400N combination. I also noticed my Dell card was picking up about 10 WLAN's in my neighbor hood and the Linkys only 2.
So there is a special support phone number for partners. I waited for 55 minutes on hold and did not get an answer.
    One Disapointed Linksys Reseller

    ---- quote "cmartell" ----
Fourth problem is the wireless connection would periodically disconnect.
In regard to number 4, periodic dropping of Wireless, connection, I tried going to channel 1, even removing wireless security.
    ---- end quote ----
I have a WPC4400N PCMCIA card, and I am having this same exact problem too. I am using drivers 1.0.2.5, which also carries the designation of "Lite" - what the heck is up with "Lite" anyway? I want the full blown drivers!
Anyway, I can't seem to stay connected for too long, even though my router (ALSO a Linksys product, a WRT350N, with updated Linksys firmware 1.03.7) is only 4 feet away, if that.
My wireless card (the WPC4400N) keeps dropping connection, even if the router is right next to it! And of course, when I had my wireless router all the way across my apartment (roughly 20 feet) it would keep doing the same thing too, kept disconnecting periodically! Any kind of adjustment to driver parameters in my network card settings would just simply not help it at all, and I don't know what the problem is!
    Can anyone please help?
My brother is a CISCO C.C.I.E. (Linksys is owned by Cisco), and I have yet to ask his help, but somehow I doubt even he could help me with this one.
I should not have to change my channel #, nor my security method, in order to keep a connection, especially when it has problems while the PCMCIA network card is being only 3-4 feet away from the router!!

  • WRVS4400N - Multi SSID problem

    Hi,
I recently purchased this router (WRVS4400N), excelent product!
I've update the firmware to the lastest version available (WRVS4400Nv2-fw-2.0.0.8-K9).
Now I'm trying to enable the Multiple BSSID to create a second SSID.
I've tryed all possible combination, b/g/n, security settings, VLAN, SSID Isolation, I've tryed with WPA/WPA2, WEP, w/o security.
All wireless client can connect to the first SSID, w/o any problem, but can't connect to the second SSID.
Is my configuration error? Is a known firmware issues?
Anyone know how to configure a second WLAN?
    Best Regards
    Fabio Castagnino

The goal is to create one WLAN (wifi) with wpa2 and mac filtering that connect direcly to the physical network with server access, and the other WLAN (public) with only wpa2 protection and in isolated VLAN, for the guest.
Suppose to have two SSID wifi and public (the second in the router web ui), both WPA2 Personal w/o MAC Filtering and w/o VLAN.
    I use only PC.
With my laptop (windows 7) and two other laptop (win XP, win 7), I can see both SSID in wireless list, can connect to the first SSID.
When I try to connect to the second SSID, the connection fail
In the attachment you can see the actual router configuration.
In the page Status -> Wireless LAN, ONLY one SSID is displayed (but is this web ui bug?).
    Thanks in advance

  • WRVS4400N PPPoE Connection Problem

I have a Cisco Small Business WRVS4400N router that is behind my ISP supplied gateway.  I recently changed the configuration around to put the ISP suppleid modem into "Transparent Bridge" mode, and allowed the WRVS4400N to handle the conenction.  Which is does fine.  My problem is that every time it looses power, I have to log back into it, and re enter the password for the PPPoE crediantials.  It retains the Username, but not the password.  This is quite annoying, as we have had several power outages here lately...
My question is, is this normal behavior?  If it is, why?  If it isn't, how do I correct it?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
On the newer code of firmware it has that behavior were for some reason it will blank out the password information. If you were to back-up your configuration and open it up in a note bad you should come across your password you've used for the PPPoE information. I wouldn't be alarmed if you see the password blank in the PPPoE field.
    Hope that helps,
    Thanks,
    Clayton Sill

  • Router WRVS4400N-EU - WLAN Probleme

    Hallo,
Getestet: OS X Schneeleopard, Windows 7

  • WRVS4400N Firewall rule problem

I'm trying to set up a rule for the firewall to block certain websites for certain hours of the day.  (Trying to remove distractions from my kids getting their homework done.)
I set up a rule enable it, set it to "Allow" internet access while the rule is acive and then start adding websites that I want blocked, i.e. facebook.com, damnlol.com, youtube.com etc.
As soon as I save the rule, it kills internet access for all computers on the network.  I was able to set up a rule that just blocks the kids' computers from internet access entirely still letting me work, but they use online resourses for school, so that is not an ideal solution by any strech of the imagination.
I have updated to 2.0.2.1 Firmware, and as far s I can tell I've set the rule up correctly...  Any help would be appreciated.

The "Allow" rule is "Internet Access During selected days and hours", the restriction is based on domain names as shown in the attachment.
So as I read the rule form in the router, it's allowing internet access to everything, and denying access to the websites that are listed in the deny box.  HOWEVER it is not working that way.  When I enable the rule it breaks internet access to everything for all computers.

  • WRT160N dhcp reservation causing lease time weirdness with WUSB300N

I just purchased these two devices and things seem to be working OK but when I try to reserve a dhcp ip for my desktop PC which is connected to the network with the WUSB300N, the lease time on that ip address goes down to 1 minute.  It ends up constantly dropping and reconnecting the address.  If I remove the reservation, the WUSB300n goes back to getting a normal 24 hour lease.  This is not an issue with any of the other wireless devices on my network.  I have a Macbook Pro, an iPhone and a PS3 all with reserved dhcp ip addresses and their lease times remain at 24 hours.
I'm assuming there must be some setting for the WUSB300n that could take care of this but I can't find it.  The desktop PC is running Windows Vista 64 bit home premium.  The installation of the WUSB300n didn't exactly go smoothly.  Every indication during installation was that of failure to install correctly.  No linksys utilities were installed and Vista reported the driver installed but the adapter wasn't working;  when I rebooted the wireless usb adapter did work.  Of course that's not uncommon, requiring a reboot for a driver to initialize but nothing in the installation indicated a reboot would be necessary and typically a reboot isn't necessary for USB driver installations.  In addition, the driver disc that came in the box with the WUSB300n didn't work so I used the driver package available from this site.
I can live without the dhcp reservation but to best manage my home network I'd like to  take advantage of this option.
    Thanks

Greetings - I'm actually having the exact same problem with my WRT160N.  I bought the router in December 2009 and utilized one reservation for a network printer.  It worked fine, and the reserved IP address would show up in the DHCP Client List of the router configuration page with the correct lease time remaining.  More recently (May 2010), I added a 2nd reservation for a network hard drive.  This is when the problem began occurring, and it impacts both the network printer and network drive.  The reserved IP address leases will appear in the Client List for (what appears to be) a random amount of time, then at some point changes to one minute and counts down until it expires off the list.  The devices continue to work with their IP addresses after they erroneously expire off, but this inconsistent behavior suggests there may be a problem with the router's DHCP reservation functionality.
To clarify, I'm not using the WUSB300N, my problem is the one identified with the WRT160N.  My reserved devices are a PC being used as a shared network drive (with an integrated Intel NIC) and an HP C6180 printer with built-in NIC.
I utilized linksys.com online technical support chat, and she had me re-flash to the latest firmware.  This ultimately did not solve the problem.  Any troubleshooting ideas?

  • Latest QuickVPN(v1.3.0.3) reports "WGET.exe has encountered a problem..." with WRVS4400N

I have a WRVS4400N(latest firmware V2.0.0.7) and am trying to connect to it for the first time using the latest QuickVPN v1.3.0.3 installed on a Windows XP Professional (w/SP3) computer. Installation of QuickVPN with no errors, but as soon as I ran it and tried to connect, it reported "wget.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience...". I tried it on another machine, also with XP Prof SP2 - same error.  I have looked at the soultion in other similar threads of removing spaces and that did not resolve the issue.  Please let me know if any one has a solution to this problem.

It sems that the problem was with the Quick VPN client. Please try to download a copy of the QVPN from the Linksys site and try to re-install it on your computer. Please make sure that the previously installed QVPN has been remove before you reinstall it.

  • WRVS4400N Problems

Hi,I recently installed a WRVS4400N router on my home network. Prior to that I was using the wireless built into my FIOS router. I wanted something more secure so I went with the WRVS4400N. I turned off the FIOS wireless and am only using the cisco wireless.
Im having intermittent issues with the wireless. I have many things hooked up to my wireless including a HP printer and a Sonos system. Most of the time if I just open my ipad I cannot see anything else on my network including the printer. If I try to see the Sonos system can cannot, sometimes I can open the app on my iphone and then I can see it.
Sometimes I can see the printer and sometimes I cant. Sometimes when I do see it and then print to it, it will be gone before it even prints.
I don’t seem to have any issues thru the LAN connections.
Also, ive noticed that the wifi is much slower than the old FIOS box.
FYI, when I remove the cisco and fire back up the FIOS wifi I don’t have any problems at all at any time. And its much faster.
I have tried channel 6, 11 and auto. Also turned off IPC and still no change.
Any idesas or help would be appreciated.
    Thank You

Hi Tony my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. In order to resolve your problem, can you check your device firmware? You have to have to latest one, that is 2.0.2.1, you can download it in cisco.com
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282414016&catid=268437899&softwareid=282487380
After the firmware update, you can do a factory reset to your device (Always make a back up of you r information).
I hope you find this answer useful, if it was satisfactory  for you, please mark the question as Answered. Please rate post you consider useful.

  • WRVS4400N Connection Problems

I tried to install a new WRVS4400N router in our main office that has a Static IP address to allow our 5 remote offices that have BEFVP41 routers with dynamic IP's and was unable to connect.
We currently have a BEFVP41 in the main office but it is approximately 5 years old and I want to start replacing the BEFVP41's with newer routers.
I configured the new WRVS4400N with all of the existing VPN tunnels and when I connected it in the main office I received these error messages that I have posted below from the VPN log.
Can anyone tell me what some of these message mean and where my configuration on the new WRVS4400N might me wrong and causing the problem?
Has anyone on the forum been able to connect a BEFVP41 to a WRVS4400N successfully?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Kevin

I received the security update today so I downloaded the newest release - WRVS4400Nv2-fw-2.0.1.3-K9 and will install it as soon as I can. Putting it back to Factory Defaults will not be an option. I had to call your support line to have them walk me through opening the router up to accept our new cable offering of 50MBS/5MBS. The router was throttling the speeds. I will need to keep those settings. Now that I have turned off one of the wireless SSID broadcasts it seems to be doing better... cross my fingers and knock on wood! I am concerned as we are getting ready to add on 12 to 14 more users in the next year.
Who or where would I need to talk with someone about the 891?

  • WRVS4400N DHCP problems

    Hello,
I have a new router (obvious) but it seems to have problems with DHCP and also problems when using N function, especially on the 40 MHz band.
First I thought the wireless NIC would be the problem but when I used another wireless NIC from a third party the same problems exists.
The only stable connection I get is if I give the wireless NIC a fixed ip address.
Router is an WRVS4400N version 1.1. The firmware has his newest version that I could find in the download section. Router has been reset to factory settings a few times.
The documentation is not very clear because it differs with the router functionality.
Router is configured to be used in Europe.
I hope someone can help me out or even point me to a newer version of this device.

I had the same issue that with the WRVS4400N 1.1.03.
After I reviewed these email threads and upload the 1.1.08 version, it is still the same, the problem cannot be resolved.
    My scenario is:
    1. DHCP does not assign any IP address to the wireless devices if there is no wired-LAN device connected to one of the LAN ports.
    2. Once this wired-LAN device is connected to the router and got an IP address, the rest of the wireless devices got that too.
i.e. DHCP is not functioned properly. Can anyone advise how to resolve this problem? There is no new firmware update other than the 1.1.03 and 1.1.08(this is a special one and is not available on the web)
    HELP!!

  • WRVS4400N v2 DHCP/DNS-Probleme

    Hallo,

Bitte dringend um Hilfe (Deutsch/Englisch; was schneller geht!!!!)!!
    Gruß

  • WRVS4400N - Local Security Gateway Type - problems

    Hi,
I've setup several VPN gateways and one Cisco gateway to our Juniper SSG140 with no issues, until today. We purchased a WRVS4400N and I'm trying to configure it to connect to our Juniper firewall, as a "dial-up" connection. I can get it to work if I set the "Local Security Gateway Type:" to "IP ONLY", but when I change it to "IP + Domain Name (FQDN) Authentication" it fails with the Cisco router not sending ANY IPSEC messages on the Cisco or Juniper, not even error messages. The last line of the VPN log says "Initiating Agressive Mode #1, connection" and nothing changes even after hitting the "Connect" button on the Cisco router.
The VPN router is Version 2, with firmware 2.0.8 loaded. Not sure if I have a bad Cisco wireless router, or this is by design.
    Thanks for any help.
    Keith

i suggest that you change the local ip address of the RVL200 to 192.168.2.1 instead of using 192.168.0.1.  please check also the encryption and the security on both ends of the tunnel. make sure that you use the same encryption and same authentication. you may also want to start with low encryption and security to make sure that it is not the problem.

  • WRVS4400N Firmwire Version v1.1.03 problem

I am having a lot of troubles connecting to my wireless WRVS4400N router after upgrading the firmwire to v1.1.03.  I use WPA-PSK with AES option.  Also turned on Wireless Client List to only allow my computers/laptop to access the router.  It seems like WPA-PSK AES option does not work well with v1.1.03 firmwire.
Does anyone have problem connecting to the router via wireless connection?  May be Linksys support team should look into this.
    Brian.

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, then please do this now.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
If the above is not the problem, then your problem is most likely caused by a poor wireless connection.
There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
In the router, make sure the "Radio Band" is set to "Wide".
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.  For wireless n, make sure standard and wide bands are at least 2 channels apart.  For example, try standard channel 11, and wide channel 9.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Also, delete your current network (this will delete any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should connect automatically.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless n routers, try setting the "n Transmission Rate" to 162 Mbps, and the (wireless g) "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.
