Can someone provide a link to the firmware download for Cat65k 67xx series line cards?
I want to check the current firmware releases on Cisco.com for line cards fitted to 6500 series switches. The only images I've been able to locate are those for the supervisor modules.
I cannot locate rommon/firmware images for the 67xx line cards, where are these on the website?Since receiving the reply yesterday I've had a closer look at this. Attached is an excel file that shows the firmware versions for all the modules fitted.
I see that the same module type has 1 of two firmware versions, surely if this had been downloaded from the supervisor at module boot time then the same version of card would have a consistent firmware version??
E.G. the WS-X6748-SFP modules have either 12.2(14r)S5 or 12.2(18r)S1 in the same chassis.
Can someone explain this in a bit more detail please? -

Hello,
I have several 4510E+R switches with the following modules:
Mod Ports Card Type Model
---+-----+-------------------------------------- +------------------
1 48 10/100/1000BaseT Premium POE E Series WS-X4748-RJ45V+E
2 48 10/100/1000BaseT Premium POE E Series WS-X4748-RJ45V+E
3 48 10/100/1000BaseT UPOE E Series WS-X4748-UPOE+E
4 48 10/100/1000BaseT UPOE E Series WS-X4748-UPOE+E
5 4 Sup 7-E 10GE (SFP+), 1000BaseX (SFP) WS-X45-SUP7-E
7 48 10/100/1000BaseT UPOE E Series WS-X4748-UPOE+E
8 48 10/100/1000BaseT Premium POE E Series WS-X4748-RJ45V+E
10 48 10/100BaseTX (RJ45) WS-X4148-RJ
As you can see, the WS-X4148-RJ is an older line card. Our other 4510s have 2 of these same older line cards installed and are used for the wired side of our Guest network. Are there any potential negative results of using these older line cards in these chassis? The reason we do this is so that we have less switches to manage on our network and don't have to worry about purchasing additional equipment to accommodate our wired guests.

The "original" 4500 cards were limited to 6 Gbps per slot, but that's fine for a 48 FE port card. -
Modules supported on WS-X6704-10GE line card for WS-C6509-E
We are planning to expand the local network and looking to add 10G line cards on our WS-6509-E. The confusion is over the types of optic modules that these cards support.
Can anyone advice if these line cards support all these three - namely XENPAK, X2 & SFP Plus?
ThanksWhat is the difference between these supervisor (VS-S720-10G-3C or VS-S720-10G-3CXL)
See the "XL" at the end of the part number? If you get the regular (no "XL"), you'll only get 256k IPv4 routes. The "XL" will allow you up to 1 million IPv4 routes.
Is these modules will work with c6509E and these supervisor (VS-S720-10G-3C or VS-S720-10G-3CXL)
Yes and no. Yes, these supervisor cards will work on the current chassis you've got. But if you plan to use VSS, then your 6704 line card is incompatible with VSS.
Another thing, don't waste your money. Firstly, the price of the Sup720 is exactly the same as the price of the newer (and more powerful) Sup2T supervisor card.
And lastly, rumours has it that the 6500 chassis is in it's "last gasp". Personally, I'm waiting for Cisco to announce the EoS/EoL.
If you want to future-proof your investment, the potential replacement of the venerable 6500E is the 6880-X/6807-X. -
Why three flavours for line cards?
What are the main differences between modular services cards, forwarding processor cards and label switch processor cards? I'm looking for the reason why completely new names were created, i.e. what new functions were added so that MSC name had to be changed to FP or LSP.
Hello Tenaro,
LSP, MSC and FP are different line cards to address discrete functional requirements of different positions in a network.
you can compare the cards' data sheets for differences

%ONLINE-SP-6-REGN_TIMER: multiple line cards down after config change
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help.
I recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down.
These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:
- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck
- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.
- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy
- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a
I am running out of ideas.. can anyone help ? I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change.
The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time.. maybe I could manually copy the image onto the line card if that is possible ?? any ideas ?

7k vPC best practice with multiple line cards?
I have a pair of 7k's that have a single line card with a 2 port vPC linked to a pair of 5k's, another 2 port vPC linked to the layer 3 VDC and a 4 port vPC used for peer link. I recently added an additional line card to the 7k’s and want to add redundancy for the new line card. Would it be best to simply remove one of the existing ports from each vPC on line card 1 and then include a port from the new line card? For the peer link, my thought was to remove two ports from the existing port channel and then add back 2 ports from the new line card. This way line card 1 and 2 will share the ports that make up the vPC’s instead of all of the vPC ports being on line card 1. Does that make sense or is there a better way to implement line card redundancy after adding a new line card?
Also, if I want to add some of the ports on line card 2 to the layer 3 VDC. Can I run the allocate interface command without the fear of it removing any existing allocated ports? I understand that the ports being moved/allocated to a different VDC will lose their current configuration. I had a bad experience years ago using "switchport trunk vlan allowed" vs. "switchport trunk vlan allowed add" command so I just want to make sure the allocate interface doesn't require the "add" option! :)
Thanks!Hi,
For adding new interface to port-channel:
1. you can shutdown the new physical interface and put all the configure as existing member interface.
2. add as port-channal member.
3. Unshut the physical interfaces (new interface- module 2).
4. Shutdown the physical interfaces (module 1) which you wanted to remove from the port-channel
Moving interface from one VDC another VDC will erase the configuration on that interface . you could use allocate interface command to add new interface to the VDC but all the interface should be in same port group. Adding new interface to vdc will not affect existing interface configuration .

Connect ES/ES+ TG to 6708 line card ?
Hello
I need to connect ES/ES+ on 7613 to 6708 on 6513. this is my question, can i do this ? and does line protocol up in this case or not ? and is there any document about this ?
and another question that is, can i use 6513 with 6708 line card in core layer in metro ethernet network and is there any document that recommended this case ?
thank youWS-X6xxx LAN cards will use PFC for MPLS operations.
For these cards, EoMPLS is supported, VPLS isn't.
For VPLS, you need ES, ES+ or SIP cards.
For PFC MPLS features, check this page: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/ios/15S/configuration/guide/pfc3mpls.html
For ES20, check this page:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/install_config/ES20_config_guide/baldcfg.html#wp1584356
For ES+, check this page:

Hi dear all
Can the ES+ line card be Edge-facing and Core-facing at the same time on RSP-7609-S like the below diagram ?
i know that there is restriction on IOS XR, but i can't find any thing on IOS.
i want to know that the below case support the VPLS or not?
we want to use MPLS/VPN and VPLS at same time.
i would be appreciated if give me the reference for that.
Thank youHi Amir,
yes ES+ can be both core and customer (edge) facing card at the same time (even if the 2 links are on the same LC); actually there are some cases where ES+ MUST be both core and customer facing such as H-VPLS with MPLS access.
In general for all VPLS flavours you need a ES+ card (or any other card performing label imposition such as SIP-400, SIP-600, ES20, OSM) facing the core. Then depending the type of access you want to configure you have a choice of customer facing LC. i.e: any PFC based LC for basic VPLS up to ES+ (or the other mentioned above) for H-VPLS with MPLS access.
You find this (inderectly documented) on this page:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/install_config/ES40_config_guide/es40_chap6.html#wp1463854

Catalyst 4510R-E and Line Card Options
I am considering purchasing the following 4510R-E switch items for installation in a new building that will go online shortly.
a) 1 x 4510R-E Chassis (WS-C4510R-E)
b) 1 x Supervisor Engine 6-E (WS-X45-Sup6E)
c) 1 x 24-Port 10/100/1000 Module (WS-X4424-GB-RJ45)
d) 6 x 48-Port PoE 803.3af 10/100 (WS-X4248-RJ45V)
We are purchasing classic line cards for item c and d initially due to budget restrictions.
Three questions:
1) What power supply should I purchase to power this configuration?
2) The 4510 will connect to two Catalyst Blade 3020 switch, each using 4gig etherchannels. Can we do this connecting to item c or do we need an additional card (the only other things attached to item c are probably a Windows storage server and domain controller)
3) Does this sound like it will give us good performance or have I missed anything?
Many thanks for any advice
Mark1:) Do you plan to use PoE with your line cards? Make sure you plan accordingly. I would recommend using the power calculator for this.
2:)This can be done no problem. No additional equipment required.
3:) You should be fine performance wise. This is a pretty standard setup.

Hi Everyone
Wat's the router's cpu on line cards used for ? Like Punt pactet 、ARP、CDP this kind of control level of information is handled by the linecard CPU or the CPU on Router engine。
Regardswhich platform you are referring to? If its 6500 it would be still handled in RP CPU in supervisor engine and linecard only have L2/L3 Engine.
