WSFC - Active/Active Backup issue

Hello,
I'm trying to setup a backup and looking for a right way to do that for Clustered Server.
I have two nodes with failover Cluster on High Availability setup. before that we used only one node so what I did is doing the full backup on the weekend and differential during the week ( twice per day ). How should I approach the setup
for two nodes ? Do I need to do fully backup on witch node on nightly basis , and overwrite or there is a better way ? (I want to keep at least 2 entry points during the day of the DB's ) .
Thanks

When you say active/active you have 2 different SQL instance running on nodes. I am not clear how you are relating this with backup. Backups completely depends on your business requirements.

  • Apple iPad 6.1.2 10B147 - Active Sync Issues Remain

    Hi,
Please correct me ASAP if I am posting this in the wrong area of the discussion forum.
I have a batch of Apple iPad devices that are now connecting to our Exchange 2003 system using Apple iPad iOS 6.1.2 10B147 devices. It would seem that these devices may have the 6.1 Active Sync issue again even though this version was meant to fix the issue.
A couple of users have reported this morning reoccuring calender cancellations, we have also had excessive log growth on Exchange 2007 platform.
Here is the reported "Device Agent" from Active Sync logs:
    Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
    Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
    Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
    Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
    Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
    Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
Here is the reported Device iOS
    DeviceOS
    iOS 6.1.2 10B147
Does anyone know if Apple has this as a reported bug yet on their fixed version? If not is there an official Apple bug submission process that should be followed?
    Regards
    Ben Paddick

    Hi waddock,
I think that for the most part, iOS 6.1.2 resolved the recurring calendar bug and the significant battery drain issues.  With that said, I have had a couple cases of devices still experiencing the battery drain but not the calendar bug.  Quick fix is to remove the Exchange mailbox(es) from the device and re-add it.  If there are any existing accounts that use Exchange ActiveSync (I think Hotmail and legacy GoogleSync), I just remove and add them back to just in case.
I suggest checking here for periodic updates on what's going on with EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) and 3rd party devices like Apple:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324
I assume you're an on-premise environment, so to mitigate short-term, you may want to think about blocking certain devices on certain operating systems using your Device Access Settings in Exchange for mobile devices.
For feedback for Apple, you can do it a couple ways.  This is the internet facing site:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Or you can create an Apple Developer account (or Apple IT program if you have an enterprise agreement with them) and start submitting feedback during your testing (i.e. beta versions of iOS):
    https://developer.apple.com/
    Hopefully this helps!

  • SAP HR Active Sync Issue

    Hi,
I encountered SAP HR Active Sync issue: The IDM seems can't receive the IDOC but SAP side says the data already passed to port OK.
I enabled the verbose mode of the Active Sync logs and it is repeating:
2009-06-04T17:07:08.750+0800: IDOCs of message type HRMD_A will be processed.
    2009-06-04T17:07:08.750+0800: {jco.server.gwhost=10.153.3.20, jco.server.progid=IDMRFC, jco.server.gwserv=sapgw01, jco.server.trace=1, jco.server.unicode=1}

SAP side transaction WE02 shows the IDOC:
IDoc sent to SAP system or external program: Data passed to port OK
SAP HR Active Sync resource reference says:
    1. Enter transaction code PFAL.
    2. Insert the Object Type P for person objects.
    3. Enter an Employee's ID for the Object ID or select a range of employees.
    4. Click Execute.
    5. Ensure that the status is set to “passed to port okay.”
    6. The IDoc has been created. Check the Active Sync adapter log file to verify that
    an update was received.
Now why I can't see the IDOC logs in the active sync adaptor log file?
    Thanks!

    Hi Wushilin,
Did you ever find a solution to this?
    Thanks

  • Active Content Issue

    http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/temp/various-flash-tests/flash-fix-test.html
hi - go to the above. i followed the instructions and info
from other postings and am able to get an HTML page generated by
Flash to take care of that IE browser active content problem.
    http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/temp/various-flash-tests/fix-embedded.html
then go to the above link. this is the SWF file placed onto a
blank HTML page with Dreamweaver. Obviously, the active content fix
does not work now. so my question is how do i get this to work when
i want to place flash content on my page through using DW?
I read somewhere that i may need to link up the JS file. can
someone help me with that? PS - i'm not good with writing JS code.
    thanks.

    Deaf Mike,
    > I read somewhere that i may need to link up the JS file.
    can
    > someone help me with that? PS - i'm not good with
    writing
    > JS code.
The IE Active Content issue is a pretty popular one lately,
    as you can
imagine. The easiest, most convenient solution I know of is
    to use a tiny
JavaScript application called FlashObject. -- Scratch that. I
    just learned
that the developer felt compelled by Adobe to change the name
    of his free
product to SWFObject. (Sigh.) Okay, so it's SWFObject, then.
    And a
beautiful piece of code it is. Give it a shot, Mike. Very
    easy to use.
But if you have questions, write back.

  • Licence for backup ASA5525 in an active/backup concept

    Hi!
In my current concept I have a ASA5525 with multiple contexts which is licensed for 20 security contexts.
Now I want to add a second firewall to create an active/backup szenario.
Does  the backup firewall also need a license for 20 security contexts or is  there a way to run this scenario with the basic license for 2 contexts?
    Best Regards,
    Stefan

    Hi,
To my understanding, starting from 8.3 software the ASA Failover pair devices wont require identical Licenses. Considering your ASA model, you will be running atleast software version 8.6.
With regards to Security Context Licenses to my understanding the Context Licenses on both units are counter together.
So you should have 20 + 2 Security Context available with the 2 ASAs Failover pair (one having the separate license and other with default license with regards to Security Context)
Have a look at this document
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/license/license_management/license_86.html#wp1353724

Exchange VSS Writer (instance ae29b16e-11b9-4f2d-b2eb-a544d0927d87:2) failed with error code -2147221233 when processing the backup completion event.
I thought it was a backup issue but Veeam have investigated and have said it is a VSS timeout issue (I'm not convinced)
Recently I have had to have a new logs drive and extend the size of the mail box drive but since those changes were made backup has run OK until this issues.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on my research, when Veeam takes the snapshot to then do a VSS backup it will cause the databases in the DAG to fail over and cause lots of alerts and we can modify the REM for the backup issue:

This was suggested by the Backup Assist - software vendor....

    ...for 0x81080101:
"ERROR - The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101)
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try again this operation."
If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
    "HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
    Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
    complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.

    Scot Pichelman

    Hi Scot,
Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
    after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
    1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
    2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • ITunes 10.5 very slow syncing with idevices not a backup issue

I have the latest itunes 10.5.2 installed on my 32 bit Windows 7 pc.  Ever since i upgraded my ipod 4 and iphone 4 to ios 5 it syncs very slowly with itunes (1 song aka 5 mb every 2 min and takes like 7 min to start syncing). i have tried restoring my phone and ipod with a new profile, making my ipod or iphone backup to icloud so that kills the long backup issue, reinstallled windows and just have itunes, reinstall itunes and wipeout the appledrivers then reinstall.  The devices sync fine when i use a mac that isnt mine. i also have tried outher windows pcs with no luck. im out of ideas and im tired of wating 4 hrs just for a audiobook or a movie to sync.

Yeah seriously, I have my first gen iPhone and never had a issue with it. Blackberry always had a horrible desktop manager for the PC for YEARS and I always had to debug the issues myself for clients. Unfortunately for a lot of my clients the Blackberry is a better device for business, just horrible desktop software.
Eventually I'll push my client to move over to hosted exchange server, But for right now before making that push, I need to resolve this issue with the Blackberry sync. I would hate for all the work and conversion over to the Mac to be wasted over a simple issue that possibly can be resolved by a simple setting I'm over looking.
It's also a possibility the extremely slow syncing can be caused by years of unorganized entering of contacts, but trying to sort out over 2000 contacts would be near impossible for a person with a busy schedule.

  • New Base Backup Issues

I recently purchased the K210 after researching prices and specs and think I have what should be a pretty sweet machine. However, after about 8-10 days of operation I was getting frequent create new base backup message until it reached the point that about 5 minutes after creation I would receive the message again. I am on 56K internet connection and it required almost a week to completely download all the files that Windows Update considered important. Upon checking the system I discovered that the service partition was almost completely full, 27 out of 30G. Being brand new at all of this I did something wrong but was able to restore factory settings. I am now afraid to download windows updates for fear of the same problem. I currently ignore the request to create base backup. What I need to know is if I was doing something wrong...Should the service partition become that full so quickly? I have never owned a machine with the service partition so I need to know how to access or store files on D directory. The only supplemental program I have added is a Lexmark printer which was recognized and operates correctly. Hope I asked the right questions. Excuse my newness!!!
When all is said and done, there is nothing left to say or do...

    Hi Fishoutofwater
You could see if tech support can help as this issue can have so many solutions depending on your PC build and your version of onekey, the way your OS is configured. etc.
It may also be helpful to search these forums for all info about base backup issues.
There is a 3000 system discussion thread, about onekey recovery and the lenovo recovery system.
Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost is a way to do an image backup, you most likely want to get your base backup and recovery system working as Lenovo has set it up. (onekey).
Again, It may be helpful to search the forums threads or google for for "lenovo one key recovery"  "Lenovo recovery" "lenovo base backup" , and then talk to to tech support.
    Good Luck.

  • RMAN Backup Issue when Full backup file was missing

    Hi,
On : 11.2.0.2 version, Recovery Manager
    RMAN Backup issue
Last week we had the NFS Issue where we backup the files onto NFS.
The problem occurred in the below sequence
    Saturday the backup was successful
Saturday before deleting the backup files they are copied to tape
Deleting the backup files via OS command
Sunday Full backup started but due the NFS issue backup failed(Killed the instance and restarted)
Did the RMAN Incremental backup which worked on Monday
On Tuesday RMAN started complaining and started doing the Full backup.
no parent backup or copy of datafile 1 found
no parent backup or copy of datafile 3 found
no parent backup or copy of datafile 24 foundSony any idea why the Incremental backup worked on Monday but not on Tuesday

I am much more familiar with traditional recovery methods than RMAN, and while I myself installed and suggested RMAN for backups, our other (11i) database does not use RMAN and so I am more familiar with traditional recovery. So to be able to recover quickly I want to have these files as close as possible to the original names so that I can use my standard script (from a trace file) to recreate the control fiile. If I can get RMAN to spit out the filies with original names but keep RMAN for making the backup, I may ditch the rman bacjup script in chron and write a traditional hot backup script which copies the files the old fashioned way.
    2) to reduce cloning time. The RMAN duplicate command is not as good as I thought. I was actually easier for me to restore RMAN backups first to a box that has all the same paths, and THEN shutdown (cold) these files and copy them cold to another server, and restore from there. Agaiin if I can get the original file names, I could choose to do recovery either way (RMAN or traditional) in a real emergency instead of being forced to use rman.
    3) to be able to switch to a backup file in the FRA without having to rename it. Seems logical if it is already named correctly.
    thanks ! Marvi

  • RMAN 11gR2 DUPLICATE TARGET FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE - Issue -HELP

    First question.
Can primary and standby database have the same SID name?
As I recall it is yes.
I believe they must have different GLOBAL or DB_UNIQUE_NAME?
Anyway, RMAN I believe is telling me it is having problems copying control file on first and dies.

    Hi,
Permissions Issue on STANDBY machine?First problem I see is the sysdba password must be the same on both sides (target and auxiliary dbs).
    From the documentation.
The source database and auxiliary instances must use the same SYSDBA password, which means that both instances must have password files. You can
create the password file with a single password so you can start the auxiliary instance and enable the source database to connect to it.Check all prereqs for the standby db duplicate here.

  • Activating Backup Assistant

I am trying to activate the backup assistant.  Have the app on my iPhone 4s.  rec'd an access code from Verizon but every time I y=use it I get an error message.  Have been trying to initiate a live chat with service rep but all roads lead to nowhere.  The Verizon home page is not user friendly at all.  Anyone have a solution???

    Hello sled,
Help is just a post away my friend. It will be my pleasure to assist in getting Backup Assistant activated for you. May I ask are you able to access the web on your iPhone 4S without any issues? Also, have you used Backup Assistant before, whether on this device or a previous device? I would suggest removing the app, reset the network settings, reboot the device, re-download the app, and attempt the setup again. For steps on how to reset network settings, here's a link for you.

Let me know the results, just in case more assistance is needed.

I then get an option to ok or force unbind. If I force unbind if I force unbind I get the following error:

Interestingly enough, the problem doesn't seem to effect users runing 10.6.8 or my iMac which is running 10.8.2. I've spoken to network manager and he can't see anything strange going on, on the network.
I've also spoekn to our AD guy and nothing has changed.
This is now the second time it's happend, I've managed to get everyone working (before it happened again) by deleting the AD plist in /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/Active\ Directory/ then rebinding via a scipt pushed out via ARD
If anyone can offer any assitance I'd be most gratful as I'm about to be shot by our users! as it's the start of our new academic year!
    Thanks!
    Paul

It's been a few weeks now, and (touch wood) it's not happended again on mass. We have had a few individual ones, but nothing major.
We still don't quite know exactly what happened, but trouble shooting found the following:
Our time server wasn't working corrctly centrifys ADCheck tool showed it as having a firewall (even though it didn't) our AD guy fixed that problem (sorry not sure exactly what he did)
We checked the AD kerberos ticket from a machine that lost it's connection to AD, on another mac that worked and found that it couldn't connect as the password was wrong. It seems that by default Active Directory ticket wants to change it's password every 14, and when trying to it's failing so I set it to 0
We had tried to set the server the AD plugin see's to a specific DC but this wasnt happening due to subnets not being configured in AD sites and Services
Some of the Mac's did not like being set to GMT in the time zone and the time was an hour out, people where able to login though! So I've now set them to Eurpoe\London and they're now picking up the correct time and even picked up the daylight savings over the weekend.
Our DNS is still not great but we are in the process of sorting out our subnets and when we do the consolodation we'll also asign reservations for all the mac's in the hope that apeases DDNS
    Thanks Paul

  • Deleting expired application logs is key to improving mass activity performance issues

During mass activity runs reference is made to the system's application logs during the process of line item selection. Performance based issues can be overcome by deleting old/expired application logs from the system, and rebuilding the affected table index. Based on my analysis on these issues, there has been a significant observation of 90% improvement in performance.

    Dear Astrid,
Depending on the performance trace observed using transaction ST12, if for instance the SELECT on a particular table takes the most time, deleting all expired application logs and rebuilding the table index will result in a significant performance improvement.
Yes 90% improvement will be observed across the entire mass activity run. In my example below I use table BALHDR.
    1. Run report SBAL_DELETE to delete all expired
    application logs from table BALHDR
1.1. At the selection screen of report
SBAL_DELETE, set the radio button for the expiry date to 'Only logs which have
    reached their expiry date’
1.2. Under the tab for 'Selection
conditions', enter the affected transaction code. e.g FPVA
1.3. To delete the entries, set the radio
button under the Options tab to 'Delete immediately'
1.4. Finally, execute or use shortcut F8 to
    delete logs
    2. Rebuild index 1 on table BALHDR (create a
    secondary index on the table).
    I hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Adrian
