  • ITunes 5 and iPod update 2005-09-06

I have a 15GB iPod with the dock connector and have been using it fine until yesterday when I updated to itunes 5.0 and basically lost 90% of the music I had on my iPod. The message told me my software was too old so I went and updated the iPod software to 2005-09-06 abd I still get the same message and have lost the ability to get the music from my itunes library back on my iPod. Anyone with the same problem or a possible solution?

Hey Jeannie I hope this helps out. I found some info on another discussion thread that worked out:
Tessa Brunton, "iTunes 5.0 won't transfer purchased music to iPod", 03:14pm Sep 15, 2005 CDT
With my 15GB iPod plugged in, I went to the Utilities folder in Applications and clicked the 2005-06-26 updater. As soon as it was done running, iTunes started transferring all of my purchased music back to my iPod.
I think I'll hold off on the 2005-09-06 update until next week, just to be safe for the weekend.

  • Notification of meeting on subject line

An intermittent problem exists when a particular user gets notified of an upcoming meeting. This is what she recently had displayed in the subject line:
    =?ISO-8859-1?B?Q2FsZW5kYXIgcmVtaW5kZXI6IFJldmlldyBjZXJ0aWZpY2F
    0ZXMgb2YgaW5zdXJhbmNlL3dhaXZlcnM=?
    This was notification for:
Calendar reminder: Review certificates of insurance/waivers
This user is using the latest PCPine client. I only have 2 people that get these gobbled messages and both are using PCPine. Most users are using Outlook or Outlook Express, Mulberry, etc. I'm thinking it is the client BUT this only happens when notification for a meeting is received from Oracle Calendar.

Seems like a character set problem in this client. Maybe there were some national cpecial chars in the subject that could not be displayed.

  • Multiple Windows accounts using a single Library

I have not found a way to solve this problem but I am convinced that it is my lack of Windows expertise, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I am talking about the iTunes Library and NOT Music Folder.
I have two login accounts in my WinXP environment. I want both of these accounts to have not just access, but full control over iTunes - add music, create and delete playlists, etc. In effect, I want iTunes to see both accounts as if they were one user. There is no issue with simultaneous access and conflicts because the machine is not configured to allow fast user switching(and it can't be - our IT dept won't allow). This also prevents using any sort of solution which uses iTunes music "sharing".
I had no problem locating the iTunes Music Folder in common space so both accounts can access the actual music, but for now, I've had to copy the iTunes Libray.itl (and the XML lib file) into the second user account's Docs and settings\account\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ path. Then I try remember which was changed last and manually sync - painful and error prone.
I tried copying the iTunes folder and library files to common access space (all users), and then creating shortcuts, renaming the shortcuts to the actual files names (dropping "shortcut to"), and putting the shortcuts in the locations where iTunes expects to find the "real" files. This is how I got it to work on the Mac - with aliases - but I guess that aliases and shortcuts don't exactly behave the same.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - TK

    hi The Kid!
here's a bleeding-edge hack along those lines ... unsupported, no guarantees of success on a 6.0.x, etc, etc ...

  • THANK YOU - b-noir, dmitry, &c.  Got it working so far...

First off an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to everyone who's been suggesting fixes for the problems with iTunes 5..... not least Dmitry Byk and others too numerous to mention - but especially b-noir !
    b My system :
Windows PC with XP Home Edition, Service pack 2, and all up to date via windows update. Also... Norton Internet Security (including Antivirus) 2005, and Webroot's Spy Sweeper aswell...all sitting behind a firewall router.
    b My Symptoms :
Happily clicked on the option to upgrade to iTunes5 after experiencing no trouble at all to date....
When I tried to install iTunes, at the end of the install process, the whole system locked solid....no Ctrl Alt Del, nothing ! Had to push the reset switch. Once re-set, the PC re-booted but had disabled my Active Desktop. Everything worked OK in this state, except when I tried to launch iTunes from the desktop when the computer would lock solid with the 'hourglass' next to the cursor - and only a punch of the re-set switch would re-boot it (...and on one occasion I tried leaving it for a couple of hours to see if it managed to 'unlock' itself before resorting to this !) No blue screens of doom, and no error messages - just a total 'lock-up' !
NB !!! I also suspect that I had not shut down my Norton 2005 while installing iTunes.
b OK...the fix so far..with HUGE THANKS to those mentioned above.
First I made a backup of my 'My iTunes' folder to ensure a copy of my files (should have done that ages ago !
Then removing iTunes was a problem - since it did not appear in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs list !
Cue a load of dredging around the threads....
First I followed the advice on the Apple Support page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
I followed every step to clean the machine BUT did NOT try and install iTunes after every step. I just kept cleaning out the old stuff. I did the download of the windows cleanup utility....which found an iTunes entry even though it did not appear in control panel's add/remove programs.
I now followed Dmitry Byk's steps 1 and 2 here : Dmitry Byk, "Success! All fixes together in one thread...step-by-step...", 12:19am Sep 11, 2005 CDT
BUT at this stage did NOT start installing Quicktime, Bonjour and iTunes.
I did download the standalone programs from his links in step 3 & 4 and saved them to a folder ready for use later. Latest iTunes was downloaded from the main Apple link.
Then I followed someone else's advice on clearing out hidden iTunes/Quicktime folders hidden in Application Data folders, and also the Quicktime/iTunes folders in Program Files.... The step-by-step for this was found on a thread but the name and location I have lost and can't find again. IF ANYONE RECOGNISES THIS BIT PLEASE POST A LINK. The posting took you step by step through revealing the hidden folders and working through the various locations where iTunes & Quicktime leave remnants of folders. I can't remember the name of the person who put it up... although maybe b-noir pointed someone to it on another thread which I followed ?!
Once I'd finished all the delting... i switched off my pC, left it a while and then came back to start installing.....
    ### ii Before Installing I disconnected from the internet, and then disabled Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus by right clicking on the system tray (bottom right of the screen) icon and disbling protection until the next re-start.
i I also totally shut down my Spy Sweeper software, and then for good measure closed all the other programs with icons in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen.###
Next I installed the freshly downloaded Quicktime and just accepted the file associations at the end of the set-up procedure.
Next I re-booted the computer, and then went through all my 'shut downs' in the paragraph marked ### above.
Next step was to install Bonjour just like Dmitry Byk tells you in his posting (see link above).
Re-boot the computer, and do all the ##

hang on.... here's the rest !.......
...Re-boot the computer and do all the ### paragraph shut-downs again.
Next I installed iTunes from the setup program freshly downloaded from Apple. I unchecked the 'search for music' options and allowed the 'organise my music' option, and once the install had finished the computer seemed to be working fine.
Next I opened up Norton Internet Security and went to Status & Settings, Personal Firewall, Configure, and under the Programs tab ensure that the entried for iTunes and Bonjour were set to Permit All in the Internet Access column.
Now I closed everything and re-booted....
Once I'd done this I made sure that Norton Internet Security & A/Virus protections were running, reconnected to the internet and double clicked on my shiny new iTunes icon on the desktop......
AND IT WORKED OK with full access to the Music Store and all my music listed correctly.
That's the story so far.... My next steps are to do all my ### para shut-downs and install the latest iPod Updater Software as downloaded from Apple (did I mention that I cleared out all of those entries in Control Panel (Add/Remove programs) before starting the installs aswell ?!)
Once that's done I'll plug in my iPod and try a synch to check all's well...... I was lucky that the total 'lock-up' I was experiencing meant I couldn't even try to synch my iPod and so still had the use of it's music trouble free while I dredged around trying to fix iTunes.
I'll let you know if this works OK.....
Now some of the technically minded of you will be able to point out that some of the above steps might not be necessary, but hey - it worked for me and so i thought it was worth sharing in case someone else out there has the same crashing.
b A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to b-noir and Dmitry Byk in particular. Nothing I've written above is my own clever computer insiight - but a collection of the work done by the good people who post replies with assistance.
b Moreover - people like b-noir deserve a shiny new Mac System from Apple as a thank you for their tireless efforts to help people out. They are doing some serious corporate-reputation-recovery in their own time and deserve more of a reward than just our simple texted 'thank you's.....
b ii THANKS to all of you who have suggested fixes - it's greatly appreciated by simpletons like me !!!
    Cheers, Taffmaster

  • How I got my iPod to Work with iTunes 5.0

    The Scene:
    1 Ghz Titanium Powerbook
    iTunes 4.9
    20 G iPod firmware v. 3.1
    The facts:
Start iTunes 4.9. Tells me there's an update available. "Oh, Boy!" Install the update via Software Update. Start iTunes 5. Looks nice. Plug in Firewire cable with iPod at other end.
    KERNEL PANIC
    Restart.
iTunes 5 will not see iPod. System profiler will see iPod. Disk Utility will see iPod. iPod Updater will see iPod but only to restore. iTunes 5 will not see iPod.
    Browse Apple forums.
Aha! Close eyes and Delete iPodDriver.kext.
Big mistake. Powerbook does not like iPod now. Nothing sees the iPod. Copy iPodDriver.kext back to original location. OS does not like the way it was installed.
    Restore iPodDriver.kext with Pacifist.
    back to square one.
Connect iPod. Open iPod Updater. Click restore. Follow prompts. Disconnect iPod. Set language on iPod. Reconnect iPod. iTunes starts, sees iPod, synchs with iPod, music and files are restored, all is right with the world and I'm a happy camper.
Lots of useful information at the following site:
    http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/articles/iPodSupport.shtml
    Good luck.

Also, if your iPod does not display the do not disconnect icon on its screen, you will need to reboot to continue.
If the iPod does display the icon, but itunes doesnt recognize the unit, use Windows' "Safely Remove Hardware" application to disconnect it.
    Hope this helps...

  • Refresh of a materialized view

    Hi All!
I have a materialized view defined like:
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW v_ship_info_new
    PCTFREE 5 PCTUSED 60
    TABLESPACE DATA_BIG
    STORAGE
    INITIAL 32768K
    MINEXTENTS 1
    MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED
USING INDEX STORAGE (INITIAL 2M NEXT 500K)
    REFRESH START WITH ROUND(SYSDATE + 1) + 08/24
    NEXT ROUND(SYSDATE + 2) + 08/24
    AS
    SELECT .....
The view was created on Sep.-13-2005. I expected that the view will be refreshed today at 08:00 AM, but the last_ddl_time in user_objects is Sep.-18-2005 and the data in the view is also from Sep.-18-2005. There is no time filter in SELECT statement. The view should shows a result of left outer join of two tables.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Andrej

    Andrej,
You should consider the NEXT interval relative to the last materialized view refresh. Reading your materialized view definition it results that:
    - the materialized view was refreshed for the first time on 14-sep at 8:00 am (START WITH ROUND(SYSDATE + 1) + 08/24)
    - the materialized view is then refreshed on 16-sep at 8:00 am, 18-sep at 8:00 am (ROUND(SYSDATE + 2) + 08/24)
Considering you have specified the START WITH clause in your command, the NEXT date should be considered starting from the timestamp of the last refresh and not from the moment of the materialized view creation.
    Regards,
    Adi

  • Latest iTunes resources (?)

I upgraded to iTunes for Windows ver 5.0.1.4 despite what I read as anguish by some other users on these boards.
But, what I saw after the upgrade was no different than what I saw with the first 5.x 'upgrade.'
I started iTunes and watched Windows Task Manager. iTunes immediately, despite no songs were played, took up over 50M bytes and kept that allocation. Then, I stopped iTunes, watched its RAM usage and rather than disappear from the task manager screen, not only remained but continued to show 48 Mbytes usage of system memory.
The only reason I went through this exercise was because after running iTunes (and exiting it) my system had some unreasonable lock-ups and loooong delays when trying to go to links on web pages or otherwise try to do things other than iTunes.
Has this iTunes version been adequately been debugged before release. From my results, I don't think so.
And yet, I don't see an Apple link for going back to a previous version, but only user forum links to sites that typically don't work to retrieve older versions.
And, before you ask, the operating system is current, as are security updates. Spyware and virus checks have been run with current signatures.
My only concern is that this software is thoroughly debugged before inflicting it on us.
Op sys is Windows XP, Sp2, RAM: 1GB, up to date for both windows updates, spyware (MS) and virus (Norton/Symantec) signatures and scans.

gaah. would that be Norton Internet Security 2005, SK1? this cluster of symptoms started hitting new
    b 4.9 installs
a few weeks before the 5.0.0.35 launch, and was cured in at least three reported cases by an upgrade to 5.0.0.35. we had actually had NIS 2005 launch-suppression problems with 4.8 and 4.9 prior to this, but that was generally a much milder version of the phenomenon (not associated with the slow shutdowns, for example).
let's first see if the Jordana trick works for you:
    Lisa Bissell, "ITunes won't work" #4, 09:12pm Sep 28, 2005 CDT
... and if not, try this:

(EDIT: you're not reporting the classical symptom of this, which is launch suppression, but we need to try to get this issue off the table before we check your QT version number.)
keep us posted on your progress.

  • SSO to R/3 using a reference system

    Hi,
I try to setup SSO between a EP6 SP2 and a R/3 4.7. I configured the backendsystem correctly because SSO works if the users have the same user id (tried it using WinGUI). In my case the user ids between ActiveDirectory and SAP differ, so I have to use a reference system. I configured it in the UME settings and now my users can personalize their user ids, but when they click on save an error message appears that a problem occured. In the log file it says:

    Any idea what went wrong?
    Bye,
    Christoph

solved it: SAPJCO was not included in the Windows Environment Path Variable. I included D:\usr\sap\yyyy\j2ee\j2ee_00\os_libs;D:\usr\sap\yyyy\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\additional-lib
    Bye
