WSUS - Clients stopped reporting on downstream replicas

Just looking for some advice on what could be wrong here.
Some of our downstream WSUS replicas have stopped 'receiving' updates from machines on the network.  Below is an example of one group affected.  In this case WSUS is on a 2003 server but there is 1 instance where there is a 2008 R2 replica with
the exact same problem.
<image can't be posted until account is verified>
Image was of the WSUS console with machines in the group stuck on 'Last Status Report' on '15/04/2015'.  Once account is verified, will post.
There doesn't seem to be a common denominator between the replicas that do work and those that don't.
WSUS v3.2.7600.256
According to Add or Remove Programs, the following hotfixes are installed:
KB2720211
KB2734608
There are no client connectivity issues, one of the machines is actually the WSUS server itself (so local).  The others are all on the same local LAN
Machines are pointed to the correct WSUS server via GPO and worked up until the 15th.
The only thing that stands out in the WindowsUpdate.log on each machine is this:
2015-04-20    10:49:22:094     900    15f0    Report    REPORT EVENT: {3B186FC1-29B3-4D3E-800E-19BF108CE254}    2015-04-20 10:40:45:606+0200    1
 202    102    {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}    0    0    AutomaticUpdates    Success    Content Install    Reboot completed.
2015-04-20    10:49:22:094     900    15f0    Report    WARNING: Reporter failed to upload events with hr = 80240004.
I'm not convinced the error is totally relevant to the issue.
I have searched through many online posts but haven't found an answer that works.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or aware of what could be the problem?
Thanks
-- Edit for Further Info --
These are not new replicas and definitely have been working up until recently.  All 'broken' replicas seemed to stop on the same day.

Hi,
Have you changed anything before this issue occurs?
Are these clients able to be updated from WSUS server successfully?
Did you install any update on these WSUS servers or clients before this issue occurs?
If you have configured SSL on the WSUS server, please check if the certificate was expired.
Best Regards.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
1) No changes other than deleting expired updates through the WSUS control panel.
2) Not anymore, no
3) Server updates were applied, but I don't believe there were any for WSUS specifically.  The same updates would have been applied to other servers which are not affected
4) No SSL in this case.

  • WSUS clients not reporting!

This is making me crazy. I have been working on it for a couple of days. I have reinstalled WSUS multiple times followed the steps on multiple walkthroughs, tried installing on another server. No luck. If anyone has any ideas please help. Thanks.

  • WSUS clients reporting, but not recignizing that they need updates

Ok, so here we go.  This issue is affecting all of my clients.
    What I am running:
    WSUS v3.2.7600.226 on Server 2008-R2
    Clients are
    Server 2008-R2
    Server 2008-SP2
    Windows 7
All of my clients are reporting to the WSUS server.  Updates have been approved for all of them.
The WSUS control panel is showing that each client is in need updates, each client needs between 65-85 updates.
This WSUS server is not connected to the internet, so all of the updates were imported from one that is connected to the internet and they are stored locally.
I’ve checked the WindowsUpdate.log and what I think I am seeing is that the clients are checking in with the WSUS server, but are not seeing that they need any updates.
    The log file is below.
I ran the “Solarwinds WSUS Diagnostic’s Tool”, and everything came back as good, except the “CONTENT”.
The error that is displayed is “Incorrect proxy client configuration – use settings tab to test proxy configuration settings; may also be caused by misconfigured SSL implementation or access rights on WSUS Server.”
    - I am not using any sort of proxy settings.
    - I am not using an sort of SSL
    - As far as misconfigured access rights on WSUS server… I don’t think they are set incorrectly.
If I browse to http://SRV-WSUS-E3/selfupdate/wuident.cab I am able to download the wuident.cab.
Hopefully I didn’t cause this with conflicting group policy, my group policy settings related to WSUS are as follows:
Allow automatic Updates immediate installation – Enabled
Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications – Enabled
Automatic Updates detection frequency – Enabled, 4 hour interval (I plan to change it to 24 hours once things are working)
    Configure Automatic updates
Configure automatic updating – 4 – Autodownload and schedule the install
Scheduled install day – 0 Every day
    Scheduled install time – 1900
No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations – Disabled
Reschedule Automatic Updates Scheduled instllations – Enabled
Wait after system startup (minutes) – 1
Specify intranet Microsoft Update service location – Enabled
Set the intranet update service for detecting updates –
    http://SRV-WSUS-E3
Set the intranet statistics server – http://SRV-WSUS-E3
Turn on recommended updates via Automatic Updates – Enabled.
Any help or advice would be appreciated!  Also, if more info is need to diagnose please let me know!
Here is most recent entry in the WindowsUpdate.log files from one of my Windows 7 clients.  Another Windows 7 client's log was virtually identical.

This particular issue is discussed in a couple of other threads, and I think I also posted it back to the SolarWinds Thwack forum for the tool. This is caused because your WSUS server has the "Directory Browsing" role service enabled in the Web Server role.
If this is a dedicated WSUS server, then that is an erroneous configuration, causing IIS to return an HTTP 403.14 error to the Diagnostic Tool, and it's displaying the standard error text for detecting an HTTP 403 error. This is a defect in your WSUS server,
and the fix is to disable the Directory Browsing role service in the Web Server role. If this is not a dedicated WSUS server, then the question is whether there are any other web applications or web services that require Directory Browsing to be enabled. If
not, then you should remove the role service. If so, then this is a normal indication for your implementation because IIS is returning an error to the Diagnostic Tool.
    2012-07-20 06:58:32:573  564 8ec Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {189A8F50-0C3A-4FDF-8BC2-BC23A3EB11FB}.101, hr = 80242013
This message is generated because you have an update on your WSUS server that needs to go away. Typically this is caused by an expired (read: defective) update that still has an active approval. Find the update, decline it.

Found 0 updates and 68 categories in search; evaluated appl. rules of 1621 out of 2568 deployed entities
And that defective update is most likely blocking this client from being able to scan the rest of the available updates and successfully detect any needed updates.
Also, btw, I note that this server does not yet have KB2720211 installed.

  • Server 2012 R2 - WSUS - Win 7 reporting status, Win 8 not

    Hi,
We have WSUS running in Server 2012 R2 standard. I have a handful of Win 7 PCs reporting status successfully. All other Win 7 and Win 8/8.1 have "not yet reported".
Looked at the windowsupdate.txt to compare a Win 7 working PC to a Win 8.1 non-working PC. Found this difference: Win7 is using
http://hccsus01:8530/ClientWebService/client.asmx and Win 8.1 is using
    https://fe2.ws.microsoft.com/v6/ClientWebService/client.asmx

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Client Statistic Report Issues

    Hello Community,
I hope you can help with a couple of issues I am seeing on Prime Infrastructure 2.1, running an evaluation 60 day license.
My PI 2.1 build is currently managing a WLC 5508 running 7.4.121.0, which has been added successfully. No configuration changes were applied to the WLCs, other than SNMP community. No AVC or medianet configuration is applied.
When looking in the 'Operate>Client and Users' dashboard; I can see connected clients and if I select one of them, I can see further details like session, security and client statistics (showing traffic and 802.11 metrics). These are the table views that show current values, however, further down I see graphs but they do not contain any information for RSSI, SNR or traffic sent & received (packets or bytes).
Question: Should I see this information under an evaluation license and if so, what could be stopping it?
Also, when I run the reports 'Report>Report Launch Pad' and select 'Client>Client Traffic' or 'Client>Client Throughput' the resulting report contains 0 bps, when I select 'Report By' AP by Floor Area. I have created a single floor area and placed three access points into it.
Out of interest if I do a report of the same type using 'Report By' All or AP by Controller, I do see traffic graphs for 3 out of 333 access points. Just not the access points that are in my floor area. Also the amount of traffic utilization is tiny (less than a kbps) for a WLC with 800 users.
For a 'Client>Client Count' report using AP by Floor Area, I do see the client numbers connected to the WLC/APs in my configured floor area.
Question: Should I see reports for client traffic and throughput under an evaluation license for floor areas and if so, what could be stopping it?
I have checked the background task and the 'Client Statistics' task is enabled and run time is being updated.
    Kind regards,
    Ian

    Hi,
    here is an update:
There are more than one Report you need to start to get data for Device, FAN, Power Supply, Module - look at these reports:
Report > Report Launch Pad > Device > Inventory
Report > Report Lauch Pad > Device > Wired Detailed Device Inventory
Report > Report Lauch Pad > Device > Wired Module Detail > Wired Module Detail Report Details
SFPs and GBICs cannot be reported til now - there are working on it.

  • WSUS 3.2 reports Windows 8 as "Windows 0.0"

WSUS 3.2 reports Windows 8 as "Windows 0.0" for both Windows 8 Release Preview and Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate. I am running WSUS 3.2.7600.226.

Thanks for your reply.  About 1/3 of the way down the KB article I found the following instructions to be performed on the Win 8 machine:
    Net stop wuauserv
    rd /s %windir%\softwaredistribution\
    Net start wuauserv
So this included deleting the Software distribution folder.  As far as whether I synchronized the WSUS server... well I hadn't when I wrote last time, but in the intervening hours it has had a scheduled sync.
Was it a mistake (interfere with the solution) when I performed the following on the windows 8 machine after I did the netstop, rd, net start stuff:  wuauclt
/detectnow ?  I did this to immediately see what the windows 8 machine would show up as on the WSUS server.
The version according to the bottom pane says version 3.2.7600.251  When I check the "Installed Updates"  I see the "Hotfix for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 (KB2720211)" as installed as of March 17, 2014.  And the version column
    for this record says, "3.2.7600.251"
So actually, here's my best recollection of the history on this: when I initially installed and configured etc. the WSUS server (sometime between March and May of this year), it saw the windows 8 machine as a windows 8 machine and at some point in the intervening
months it starting seeing it as either Windows XP or Windows 0.0 (I would delete the machine from the WSUS and it would reappear as one or the other).
Thing is, I haven't messed with the WSUS server almost at all.  It's a dedicated, single-purpose machine that I just check in on from time to time.  So I don't know what could have happened to make the server stop recognizing and giving updates
to the Windows 8 machine we have (we only have one in our office).
    Thanks, again, for any help.

  • 2008 R2 WSUS not getting reports from 2008 Standard Servers

    Greetings,
I'm running into an issue on my domain network where I just implemented a WSUS on Windows Server 2008 R2. All of my clients have reported since then with the exception of two servers. Thus far I've checked the registry keys to make sure GPO is pushing out
to them and cross compared with one of my servers that is reporting properly.
The servers are both on Server 2008 Standard while the rest of my domain's servers are 2008 R2. We are using a ESXi to house the VMs. One server is a VM and the other is a physical box that we use for a file server. We are currently on a 2008 domain infrastructure
level. The first server is a database VM which houses our SharePoint data. The second as I stated above is a file server. If I try to manually update they will error out as GPO dictates that they must go through the WSUS which they can't find.
All my 2008 R2 servers are currently reporting that 100% of updates are installed. My two trouble childs are populating in the list but without a date/time stamp for last status report nor an installed %. I have several client workstations that also report
to my WSUS as well and they are on Windows 7.
Any assistance would be much obliged.
    Thanks,
    -Adam

    Hi,
This link might be of use:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708627(v=ws.10).aspx
You can reset the wsus client as per below:
To reset the Automatic Update client
    Open a command window.
    Type wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow
Wait 10 minutes for the detection cycle to finish.

  • WCS reponds slow when generating the Client Association reports

    Hello,
I have set a Wireless Network in of our client's corporate office - which consists of one WLC4404, 42 x 1131AG Access Points. WCS is used to mainly to monitor the AP reachability and Client Association and Deassociations from the WLAN.
When i click on Run Now of the Client Association reports; the report is generated successfully. But when i try to view other pages such as Monitor>Network Summary - the WCS stops responding and it takes approximately 7 mins to display the Monitor>network Summary page. At this time i have observed that the server is reachable during the continous ping and the Server CPU utilization remains to 8% and Memory utilization remains to 1.56GB.
Error Message: Error getting dataa from Server. Make sure you have connectivity and the Server is UP.
Server used is a Standard Server HP Proliant ML110 with 1.86GHz Intel Xeon CPU and 2GB RAM. Operating System used is Win 2003 Server with SP1.
Please can one help me solving this problem.
    Regards,
    Keshava Raju

Sorry, i missed out to mention - WCS V4.1 is used for monitoring the WLAN.

    Hi,
You can try to change the Lync Profile name. After you do it, Lync will create a new Profile. The Lync Profile path is following:
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
If the issue persists, please repair Office 2013 and then test again.

  • Cell formulas stop reporting correct values. Numbers 3.5.

    10.10
    Numbers 3.5
    In the same table:
I have a cell (say #1) with a number value entered say 10.40.
I have another cell (say cell #2) that is set to equal that cell's value.
This works and cell 2 reports the correct value of cell 1.
But once every 10 or so restarts cell 2 stops reporting cell 1's value correctly.
It reports the previous value after I change Cell 1's value.
Sometimes deleting cell 2's reference and re-entering it works.
Other times it just continues to report cell 1's previous value.
Getting cell 2 to report the current value of cell 1 can be a chore.
Other cells on the same sheet with more complicated formulas also stop reporting the correct values.
Many references are for cells in other tables on the same sheet.
I can spend 30-45 minutes correcting the mess every 10 or so restarts.
    Anyone else have this issue?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks   ...   Ken

Nothing like that here.  Have you tried deleting Numbers 3.5 (go to LaunchPad, hold down the mouse button until the icons quiver, and click the x by the Numbers icon) and re-downloading from the Mac App Store?  Also have you tried shutting down and restarting your Mac?

  • Client-Auth reports: HTTP4030: Timeout while waiting for client certificate

    Hello,
I'm having problems with the certificate authentication in my Sun Java System Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.1: I have created an ACL in the SJWS that asks for a client certificate when the user goes to a specific URI:
    acl "uri=/server1/myaction.do";
    authenticate (user) {
    method="ssl";
    deny (all)
    user = "admin";
It works great and, when the user goes to "/server1/myaction.do" (we are using Internet Explorer 7 as Web browser), the window for selecting the client certificate appears:
    - If the user selects a certificate that doesn't require password, everything works fine.
    - The problem comes when the certificate is configured in Internet Explorer for asking for a password every time it is accessed. Once the user has selected the password protected certificate, the window for typing the password appears, but if the user doesn't type it and click OK IN LESS THAN 5 SECONDS (I've timed it), the following messages appear in the SJWS logs:
[28/Nov/2007:09:25:05] failure ( 2055): for host 10.0.145.11 trying to GET /server1/myaction.do, Client-Auth reports: HTTP4030: Timeout while waiting for client certificate.
    [28/Nov/2007:09:25:05] security ( 2055): HTTP4290: get_auth_user_ssl: client passed no certificate.
I tried to add the following two lines to the magnus.conf file of the SJWS, but nothing changed:
    SSLClientAuthTimeout 240
    AcceptTimeout 3600
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any little piece of advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Carlos.

This is fixed in Web Server 7.0 update 2. Please migrate/upgrade to Web Server 7.0 update 2. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Client-Auth reports: HTTP4031: Unexpected error receiving data: -5938

I am trying to deploy the clientcert sample applcation that comes with the platform edition of SunOne V7.
I have used openssl as a CA and have created client and server certs.
    I get the following problem.
Sun ONE Application Server - HTTP Status 403 Error
Access to the specified resource (Access to the requested resource has been denied) has been forbidden.
         Type: Status Report
Message: Access to the requested resource has been denied.
As can be seen from the server.log below, some form of authentication succeeds:
         [12/Aug/2004:08:56:11] FINE ( 2392): X.500 name login succeeded for : CN=tweekes, O=tester, C=ie
Note, common name is that of my client cert.
However there is a severe error:
         [12/Aug/2004:08:56:09] SEVERE ( 2392): for host 169.254.111.12 trying to GET /cert, Client-Auth reports: HTTP4031: Unexpected error receiving data: -5938
Also, HTTPS works with server side authentication and I signed both client and server certs with same private "CA" certification.
Question: Do I need any special extentions in the certs for use with SSL?
    Thanks in advance.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - "Site - Client information" reports contain no data

    Hi,
I'm running CM 2012 R2 and have a lot of clients installed. In management console, the clients are active, but Site - Client Information reports contain no data. The other reports, for example, Hardware - Processor etc., show data.
    What is wrong?

Do you have a Fallback status point enabled and defined? if not then most of these report will not work.
However Count of Client for each site should work.

  • Client Status Reporting

I've setup ConfigMgr Client Status Reporting and i'm getting this..
    16/12/2011 14:34:16
The ConfigMgr Client Status Reporting Service could not access the site database.
    Possible reasons:
    1. The service could not access the ConfigMgr database using the current credentials. Ensure that the Client Status Reporting Service has "db_owner" Database Role membership on the ConfigMgr database.
    2. The service could not access the ConfigMgr database. Verify that SQL server is accessible.
    3. A SQL operation might have failed. Review any errors in CHService.log.
    chService.log is reporting
<16/12/2011 14:34:16> Invalid SQL error - A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server

The 2008 SQL server sits on same box as the SCCM site. I've tried every combination of ConfigMgr server and instance. and used local system account and a domain account that has been setup with rights as per..

    Any ideas greatfully recieved.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up.
Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
The error message is clear that it can’t connect to the database, I would check your connection string.
