Only *Security Updates* have MSRC Security Bulletin numbers, but not all security updates have MSRC Security Bulletins associated with them. In fact, there are a large number of security updates that are not associated with security bulletins. -242- of 'em
on my WSUS server.
Otherwise, the MSRC Number field will always be blank on non-security updates, and may be blank on security updates.

  • Windows Xp machines cannot connect to Windows Server 2008r2 after Update from Microsoft.

After allowing sever updates from Microsoft, My customers XP Machines can no longer connect to the Windows server shares using the server name.  We get "can't find path error".  I can ping the IP address but not the Net-bios name.  I
can connect by ip address but have a software that must use the name "server" in an executable.  The workgroup sees all of the other computers just not the server, the server see's the windows 7 machines but not the XP machines.  I have
tried every fix I can find in the forums and online.  I did find and AD and DNS errors during the update.  Errors 4004, 4005, 4015.  Things I have tried: ipconfig flushdns, renew, registerdns, nbtstat -A servername, etc.
    Thanks

As IP address works but not NetBIOS name, it seems like a DNS or WINS server related issue as Milos said.
If there is no WINS server configged, check DNS settings (server side) and suffix settings (client side).
Which system is updated, Windows XP or Windows 2008 R2? You can check the recently installed updates and provide us a list about all updates just installed.

  • Clients cant get the updates from WSUS.

I have Installed WSUS on my Windows Server 2008 R2. The installation went smooth with no errors whatsoever. I am able to sync and download all the updates. The problem is that it doesn't see the computers. I went to the main server which is in charge of
AD, DNS, GPs', gateway, storage, etc... and created the GPO for WSUS updates there. I configured so all the computers point to the WSUS server whenever the updates take place. I am able to access the WSUS server. I use the http://WSUSservername:portnumber/iuident.cab...
and I am able to download the file... So connecting to the server is not the issue, I think. So I went ahead and opened the Windowsupdate.log and this is what I Get:

I omitted the server name for security reasons.. The port I am using is 8530. I think the log says that Identification FAILS.
We had previously installed WSUS using System Center essentials but after a year it stopped working. I went ahead an uninstalled the WSUS, Aplication Server, and whe Web IIS server and installed all of them again. I literally manually installed the WSUS
server this time and it is working fine.
Any thoughts on what could the problem be?

  • Migration of the database from Microsoft SQL 2014 Express to Microsoft SQL 2012 Server

I posted a similar thread yesterday, and I realized that there was a serious typo.
    Link: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/b3e201ea-6c7c-43a4-8908-842b714ea451/migration-of-the-database-from-microsoft-sql-2014-express-to-microsoft-sql-2012-server?forum=sqlservermigration
Therefore, I made a decision to post another thread right now.
    I am
writing to ask if there are any known issues when migration from MS SQL 2014 Express to MS SQL 2012 Server version. Are there any step-by-step instruction on how I can go about doing this?
Looking forward to your response. Thank you for your time.

    Hello,
SQL Server 2012 setup program won’t allow you to perform a downgrade from SQL Server 2014 Express Edition. Backup/Restore
and Detach/Attach won’t help you either.
One option you have left is using SQL Server Import/Export Wizard as explained on the following article.
    http://www.mytechmantra.com/LearnSQLServer/Downgrade_SQL_Server_Database_P1.html
    Hope this helps.

Also, I do not have a patchdownloader.log anywhere, Ive checked all aforementioned locations from various sources and it just simply does not exist on my SCCM server. Here is my setup:
Server1: Primary server with all roles installed locally except the site database is on its own server. WSUS is installed locally here and DB is stored here.
Server2: SQL DB for Primary site DB
Server3: Secondary remote site running MP, DP, SUP. DB is SQL Express local.
So the SUP role was installed successfully on both server1 first and server 2 second with the site servers accounts. The SUP Synchronizes successfully and I can see a large list of updates available for use but not downloaded of course. I have set WSUS option
to store updates locally and have plenty of space at the target destination.
So here is my issue, I have been working on this issue for the better part of a week and understand the error code from the ruleengine.log to be a permissions issue. I have also proved this out but creating a test ADR with minimal updates and applied NTFS perms
to the target path for Modify with the everyone group (testing purposes only). The updates downloaded successfully. So this puts me right back to where I was, knowing its a permissions issue but not understanding what permissions are needed. Let me explain
    further.
The best way to start is to show what perms I have to the target location for downloads/wsus/sup anything:
Path: \\Server1\UpdatesAndDefinitions    (permissions being applied to the UpdatesAndDefinitions root folder)
SCCMAdmin (account used for most SCCM tasks except for NA) / Modify / Share and NTFS
Server1$ (primary site server) / Modify / NTFS
Everyone / read and execute / NTFS and Share
There are other system generated perms but the above three are the important ones. So hence my confusion I know that the SCCMAdmin account or the Server its self has to be accessing the target directory so why is it failing with a permissions issue?
My next step was to enable Auditing on the target path. Doing so revealed just what I thought and through me into further frustration:
A network share object was accessed.

Now I may not be the best I traversing through the mess of audit entry's and translating them, but from what I can see the two accounts that have the proper share and ntsf perms ive listed above are indeed the ones accessing the target location and the audit
code is success. I filter for failures and found no audits for failures whatsoever yet my downloads still fail religiously, unless of course I open myself up with the everyone group.
So next... I tried adding in the Network Service account with proper permissions, the Local Service Account, my user account, and all no go's.
Next... I remove the SUP roles from SCCM checked the logs for deinstall confirmations, and reinstalled these roles. No Go!
If anyone can assist I would be in your debt and very grateful.
Oh last note, but very important note I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4
    Thanks,
    Michael
    MichaelSpaulding

I just tested with the everyone group further; I added everyone with modify for ntfs and just read only for share and downloads failed!
I then changed the share perms for everyone to change and the ntfs to read/execute and poof downloads complete! Obviously change share perms for everyone leaves me open which Id like to prevent, so finding what account is being used is crucial.
I have already tried adding all of the SCCM accounts I use and the servers themselves as change perms to share and ntfs and have not had any luck.

Wsus has finished the synchronization & downloaded updates of around 67GB & its downloading more updates. The server shows me some updates are waiting to approved. but when I click the link for those updates I get following error message.
error code is as follows -
The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.
Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

    Hi Sagar,
First, please check if the RAM is exhausted. When there is not enough RAM, this issue may occurs.
Please try to run iisreset on the WSUS server, then try to reconnect.
Also, please try to run the server cleanup wizard to remove the unused update.
    Best Regards.

  • Outlook, People & Calendar nothing is working after last update from Microsoft

    Hi Team,
Don't know whether Microsoft Team is capturing all the big questions & disappointment against the Windows 8.1.
Because many areas, I found the same issue but nothing gives proper response from Microsoft. Don't know whether they like to continue to compete Google & Others or not..
Issue is with Update from Microsoft (Hotfix or any security or etc..) After update Microsoft Outlook, People or Calendar in Windows 8.1 stop working..
When we clicked in It start flashing that but after 1 or 2 second, It just closed down without any error message (which more disappoint the user.. is that what microsoft released? shall we expect thats the quality from Microsoft Windows Team and as may be
from LUMIA ? no error nothing & just close the application.. ) ?
No update, nothing response from Microsoft on that.
I am writing this in March 2014 which means, I recently experienced this with the updates. Hope Many others are disappoint as well.
Any response from Microsoft or Windows 8.1 Team ?
    Regards,
    Brijesh Shah

    1. You have landed in support forum. Majority of people here are computer professionals and some are from MS contingent staff. For your suggestions there is more appropriate site
    http://connect.microsoft.com/
    2. What device do you have. If you have Lumia, then try this forum
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp-support?wp8
    3. What Office version do you have? For problems with office ask here
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/home?category=officeitpro
    4. Unless you give more relevant data, it is very hard to provide any reliable advice (operating system, device parameters, event log errors and warnings, version of outlook, which updates have you installed...)
Try to solve problems in more constructive way. Complaints are not the right way to real problem solution.

  • SCEP Definition update from Microsoft Malware Protection Center vs WindowsUpdate?

    Hi,
SCEP Definition update from Microsoft Malware Protection Center vs WindowsUpdate? What is the different?
    /SaiTech

If I remember correctly - definitions for A/V and NIS will be the same from either location.  I think MMPC might give you the ability to download partial, not yet released definitions for added zero-day protection.  I don't remember
if you have to be part of MAPS to get that benefit, sorry.
With the integration of WSUS with SCCM 2012, I've found that using updates distributed from ConfigMgr to be sufficient.  I do have those other methods available, but at lower priorities so that remote users who don't VPN as often as they should, have
a fallback until we can get PKI/HTTPS or an Azure DP, or Direct Access.
Again, I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that getting updates from SCCM's built in WSUS (via Automatic Deployment Rules), has worked really well for us, and having those extra methods enabled in your policy definitely makes for some extra fallback options.

  • Failed to download the update from unc content source. Errcr Code=3

can anyone tell me. how to fixed this issue. When i create Automatic deployment Rule in SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2, i get the error like this...i try to search in google. but i cant found error like this.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/328697

I'm creating Automatic Deployment Rule, in "Download Location" tab i have two options:
    1. Download software updates from the Internet
    2. Download software updates from a location on my network.
So i choose the second option to download it from a location on my network and write there UNC path to the primary server where are all updates downloaded. But when i start this rule error messages appiers with every update it tries to download "Failed
to download the update from UNC content source. Error = 3"

  • Is there any way I can convert a .exe file to .iso on my MacBook Air? I'm trying to install Windows via BootCamp but the download from Microsoft is a .exe file which does me no good.

I'm trying to install Windows 8 via Boot Camp, but the download from Microsoft is a .exe file so when I go to create the bootable USB drive, it fails. I've read some of the other threads about this topic, but I want to know if there is any way to convert to .iso without having to find someone's Windows computer to borrow. Can anyone help?

No. You would require a PC in order to run the executable which is an installer, not a disc image or an archive.

  • Where I can find the logs in Exchange that I can check or see if our mail server accepted the emails from a certain domain.

Good day, I would like to know where I can find the logs in Exchange that I can check or see if our mail server accepted the emails from a certain domain. The problem is we can receive emails
from other domains like yahoo, gmail etc but from a specific domain we cannot receive emails from them. I checked the whitelist of our Exchange and that domain is currently listed.

As suggested above, Message tracking is your option to get these reports into your environment.

  • If I reinstall my FCE 3.5 from the original discs, will I be able to get the updates from Apple?

System has begun crashing (dropping-windowshade, message to shut down computer) during attempted capture or render.  Hardware has been checked out and is OK.  Other OS functions seem to be working.  I have a bootable clone from the most recent period of good function, and also my original install disc for FCE.
If I need to try reinstalling FCE, are the updates still available from Apple?
If I can't restore FCE 3.5, is there anything I can use with my OS 4.11 MBP that will be able to access my FCE 3.5 project files?  My 3+TB of underwater clips, stored on external drives as QT movies?
Any guidance appreciated.  This forum helped me out a lot when I first started - didn't expect the end to come so soon & hope there's a feasible workaround!
    Thanks,
    Sharron S.

If I reinstall my FCE 3.5 from the original discs, will I be able to get the updates from Apple?
    Yes, via Software Update
Here is an article on how to Uninstall FCE HD  You could also use  FCS Remover (note there are different versions depending on what version of OS X you have - be sure to select the correct version)
If I can't restore FCE 3.5, is there anything I can use with my OS 4.11 MBP that will be able to access my FCE 3.5 project files?
    - FCE project files - only usable with FCE or FCP.  Not iMovie or FCP-X
    - All your clips, however, can be used with almost anything including iMovie, FCP, FCP-X, QuickTime, etc.
