Wsus synching but now updating server 2012

Hi
I recently installed WSUS on server 2012 64bit. Everything installed fine I configured it right as well (I guess)
Update directly from MS
No Proxy server
Created Group policy for client
Created computer group
Now in console I can do the synchronize fine but my download status still says - 0
I tried to approve few critical updates but still nothing
I can browse all the sites and I can manually update Windows server so thinking I am connected to internet ok and sync is 100% succeeded
What am I missing here --- Please help
Regards
Manoj Nain

Hello,
Updates will be downloaded when you approve it, but it will take some time to download the files.
And you may get a message like this:
If so, what you should do is to wait. Once the downloading is finished, it can be applied to clients.
Hope this helps.

  • Cannot publish Flash Updates Verification of file signature failed for file SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2 and WSUS all on same Windows Server 2012 machine

I am attempting to distribute Adobe Flash updates using SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2, WSUS ver4 and Windows Server 2012.  Everything installs without error.  I have acquired a certificate for SCUP signing from the internal Enterprise CA.  I have
verified the signing certificate has a 1024 bit key.  I have imported the certificate into the server's Trusted Publishers and Trusted Root CA stores for the computer.  When I attempt to publish a Flash update with Full content I receive the following
    error:
2015-02-13 23:00:48.724 UTC Error Scup2011.21 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:

I have redone the certificates three times with no luck.  I can import metadata, but any attempt to download content results in the verification error.
    TIA

    Hi Joyce,
This is embarrassing, I used that very post as my guide when deploying my certificate templates, but failed to change the bit length to 2048.  Thank you for being my second set of eyes.
I changed my certificate key bit length to 2048, deleted the old cert from all certificate stores, acquired the a new signing cert, verified the key length was 2048, exported the new cert to pfx and cer files, imported into my Trusted publishers
and Trusted Root Authorities stores, reconfigured SCUP to use the new pfx file, rebooted the server and attempted to re-publish the updates with the following results:
2015-02-16 13:35:44.006 UTC Error Scup2011.4 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:
    \\SCCM\UpdateServicesPackages\a2aa8ca4-3b96-4ad2-a508-67a6acbd78a4\3f82680a-9028-4048-ba53-85a4b4acfa12_1.cab.
Is there a chance this content was already created and signed with the old cert, so installing the new cert has no effect?  In ConfigMgr software updates I see 4 Flash updates, all marked Metadata Only (because they were originally published as "Automatic."
No Flash updates in the ConfigMgr console are marked as downloaded.  I can't find any documentation on how the process of using SCUP for downloading content for an update marked Metadata Only actually works.
    Comments and suggestions welcome.

  • ...that no computers are registered to receive updates (Server 2012) WSUS issue

    Hi
    Server 2012 64-bit WSUS install
I have trolled as many forum posts as possible but they seem to relate to older versions of Windows OS.
I have clicked the "To set up a client computer" and followed all the steps to create a GPO etc.
However the computers on the domain still look to the internet for their updates and not the WSUS server despite the policy in place.
WSUS is sync and I have 1987 security updates waiting, 626 critical updates waiting etc.
I have approved 562 updates and declined 1338 so far.
I have created 8 separate computer groups.
What can I do to get my domain computers looking to the WSUS server to receive their updates?
    Many thanks
    Leo

    I would suggest starting with
Update and Configure the Automatic Updates Client Computer in the WSUS Deployment Guide, and the
Step-by-Step Guide to Understanding the Group Policy Feature Set.
The links provided point to solutions for much older OS. I am running a Windows 2012 Server environment with Windows 8 OS on client PC's. All the data provided on the link is for Server 2000/2003 and Windows XP. Must I assume that nothing has changed in terms
of registry values and methods of solution?
Very little has changed, the principles are the same, the Admin UI has evolved/modernised somewhat.
Windows8 does have a slightly changed auto-updating behaviour (relating to the post-install-restart behaviour) , but this is able to be modified with a GP setting.
The main settings for a client, continue to be controlled by the same registry settings (keys/values), and this can be configured by GP, and the resultant settings can be observed in the registry.
The applied settings, are consumed by the WUAgent and output to the windowsupdate.log, so it's easy to confirm if your GP settings are being applied correctly as expected.

  • WSUS Role Failing on Windows Server 2012

    Hi Team,
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider:
SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)
When we enablling the role on WIndows server 2012, I got the error like

But SQL server is working fine

When we enablling the role on WIndows server 2012, I got the error like

  • Updating Server 2012 R2 DataCenter Offline With WSUSOFFLINE

    Hello!
I Am trying to update a system that is not connected to the Internet and I am not really sure which updates I need.
    Server 2012 r2 datacenter roles:
    1. DC
    2. DHCP
    3. DNS
So far... (will have VMware installed)
I will need to update every server on the system via wsus offline (also the client pc's)
is there a bundle of updates for the O.S. (Server 2012 itself) or can you direct me as to where can I download the updates please?
    thn'x in advance
                                          Omri

    Hi Omri,
essentially you'll have to configure the main WSUS server to sync for whatever products you want to patch (i.e. Server 2012R2, Exchange 2013, etc), and select the update classifications (critical updates, service packs, etc), and then export/import those
    to the disconnected WSUS.
It's not really practical to try and figure out exactly which updates are needed on which machines, using the approach above the clients can then determine, based on their own configuration, which updates are applicable.

  • Install Virtual Guest Services option not updating Server 2012 Guests

    Hi,
    I'm using VMM 2012 SP1 Update Rollup 3 and Hyper-V 2012.
I have installed KB2908415 hotfix onto our Hyper-V clusters to resolve stability issues with CSVs.  Installing this hotfix causes an update in Integration Tools to version 6.2.9200.20873.
If I shut down my virtual machine and use the manual option of "Install Virtual Guest Services" it completes successfully but the Integration Tools aren't upgraded on the virtual machine.  This only happens with Server 2012 guest machines
(Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 guest machines are updated successfully.  I have tried refreshing the virtual machine in VMM so the Integration Tools version is displayed.
VMM mounts the iso from c:\windows\system32 onto the virtual machine but the install doesn't seem to start.
Has anyone managed to get this working?
    Thanks,
    Emma

I attempted to create a new VM and was met with the same error but I'm able to create a VM using Hyper-V manager.

  • Loss of network connectivity at random times to guests and now hosts Server 2012 R2 Hyper-v on Dell R620...Guests virtual disks reside on a NAS.

We have set up 2 Hyper-v environments (Server 2012 R2 fully updated) on Dell R620's. The guest machines are configured do that they reside on a NAS (also a Dell R620 with server 2012). We are having an issue on both the environments where the guests will
lose network connectivity. The servers ran well for about 4 weeks and recently the guests started having issues and we have even had to reboot the host due to network connectivity problems.
We have 4 virtual switches set up. 1 connected to its own NIC. 1 for management and the 3 others for guests.
The 3 for guests are not configured to allow host OS sharing.
We do not have IP addresses on the NICS for the guests. Only on the management port. (all 1 GB NICS)
We have updated the firmware and drivers for the standard Broadcom Netxtreme cards.
We do not have Jumbo frames enabled because of some issues with switching compatability.
I've seen articles recommending to turn off TCP offloading and to disable virtual machine queues. Is this best practice?
Any thoughts of where I might look to help diagnose this issue?

    Hi ,
"1 connected to its own NIC. 1 for management and the 3 others for guests."
Also you mentioned that : " is only hosting these 24 VMs ".
First please try to disable the RSS in the property of the NICs for guests .
Then run powershell " Get-NetAdapterVMQ " to check the parameter "NumberOfReceiveQueues"  (NumberOfReceiveQueues – The number of queues that the NIC has available to use and assign to VMs,
the host and a default queue) .
If I understand correctly ,when you enable VMQ  the number of connected VMs on that NIC should not be more than the value of  "NumberOfReceiveQueues" -2 .
For details please refer to following link:

  • Update Server 2012 to Server 2012 R2 and keep DirectAccess configuration?

    Hi!
Does anybody know if you can upgrade an existing Windows 2012 Server with
DirectAccess to Windows Server 2012 R2 without losing or wrecking the DirectAccess configuration?

Hi There - Done it quite a few times and works without issues - as long as the Server Name, IP's and everything stays the same it will be fine.

  • Adding Internet shortcut favourites using Server 2012 R2 Group Policy Manager

    Hi there,
I wonder could someone help me!
Up on to recently we have been using the User Policies/Windows Settings/Internet Explorer Maintenance/URLs/Favourites and Links Group policy in Windows Server 2008 R2 but now within Server 2012 R2 that option doesn’t seem to be available.
If I however click on the GPO that is currently in place that has favourites specified and click on the Setting tab it generates the report showing the old /Internet Explorer Maintenance/URLs/Favourites and Links Group policy but with I click Edit on the
GPO it doesn’t show me the /Internet Explorer Maintenance/URLs/Favourites and Links Group policy to allow me to add more favourites.
From reading online I see that that /Internet Explorer Maintenance/URLs/Favourites and Links Group policy has been dropped in Server 2012 with the IEAK but this seems to need to be downloaded and installed I assume on a DC which I’m reluctant to do.
I notice there something called the Policy Preferences Administrators tool that should allow me to set favourites but I’m not sure how to use that or even where to get it – it is a feature in Server 2012?
Sorry for all of the info above!  All I want to do is within Server 2012 R2 edit an existing Windows 2008 R2 group policy and add new shortcuts to that policy so they are pushed out.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Bonemister

    Hi Frank,
Thanks very much for your reply!
Ok, method 1 seems to be a good way for what I am looking to achieve in terms of providing shortcuts, however, could you clarify a couple of things for me please: -
Does method 1 create a shortcut within Internet Explorer that is accessible by all users when they click on the favourites tab or is it a desktop shortcut?
At present there are no shortcuts specified within User Configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Shortcuts so I presume the current shortcuts are currently still being delivered via the settings within IEM.
If that is the case I don’t then want to remove the IEM from the GP reporting tools. The question is, can I keep the current policy that seems to be delivering our shortcuts and just use
User Configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Shortcuts to add any new shortcuts that we need – would there be any issue with having both GPOs operating or would there be any issues introducing shortcuts alongside the IEM
    settings?
    Thanks again for your help!
    Bonemister
Method #1, is more of a problem-fix, rather than a solution-for-how-to-do-it-from-now-on. This method would only really be needed, if you have a dysfunctional IEM-GPO, causing issues.
GPP is the way you need to adopt, because even Windows7 is affected by the IEM-removal if you upgrade IE to IE10 or newer (regardless of the Windows Server version you are using).
The recommendation is that you create some new GPOs for transitioning away from IEM over to GPP, test those, and then deploy those and remove your older GPOs that were using IEM, this would complete your transition away from IEM.

  • WSUS issue on server 2012 - Failing to update and have to set WinHTTP set

Very new to 2012 with little knowledge on the product
We have been seeing an issue for a while where we need to set the WinHTTP proxy in order for servers to correctly check in for WSUS and download patches.  This has been set in the Windows 2008 R2 build so hasn't been an issue before. e.g.
However with Windows Server 2012 R2, setting the WinHTTP proxy causes some issues. With Exchange 2013 the PowerShell console does not connect with this set so we need a way around this.
It seems as if the we use the FQDN in the GPO it then tries to go out to the internet thinking that the FQDN is an internet address and then blocked by the proxy so hence we had to create the proxy set on the server. We don't want to have to set WinHTTP
on every 2012 servers as this would be very time consuming and will become un-manageable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
What is the version of your WSUS? I suppose windows server 2012 is newly added in your network and the WSUS server is not patched.
An update for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 is available (KB2734608)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734608
    Hope this helps.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 + WSUS + Server 2012 + SQL Server 2012

    Hi all;
I installed SCCM 2012 with Sp1 for my site server and everything is going well.. And than i installed the WSUS role on my Windows Server 2012 and SCCM 2012 SP1 it gave an error message which is "Fatal Error: The schema version of the database is from a newer
version of WSUS than currently installed.  You must either patch your WSUS server to at least that version or drop the database." My database server is SQL Server 2012... Do you know any pathc for WSUS or SQL Server 2012 doesnt support WSUS yet???
    Thank You...
    MCT

Normally if you are going to install SCCM 2012 SP1 +Windows 2012 with SQL 2012, Then you better use the SQL 2012 sp1.
also when you are installing the WSUS version 6.2 which come with server 2012 make sure you leave the default settings as it is. it shows in the below article.
also when you are giving the path to save the WSUS contents make sure the drive you going to create the wsus folder and the place where you going to download the updates is having free disk space and its formatted with the NTFS volume. Also the service account
you are using for this configuration should have the admin rights to the location of the wsus folder you going to create,
    Thanks
