Super RAID 3 performance

Super RAID 3 is MSI’s name for a 4-SSD RAID 0 solution used in the GT72. You may know that traditional mechanical hard drives are going out of fashion like… Uhh, I don’t know fashion, but their only upsides have been storage density as well as price. Until very recently, that is, now SSDs have actually surpassed hard drives in storage density on 2.5” drives. Also, SSD controller manufacturer Phison, claims that SSDs will basically replace traditional hard drives in notebooks as soon as 2015 or 2016. The future, therefore is SSDs.
While we have absolutely no doubt that our Super RAID solution is the ultimate, we want to demonstrate to you exactly how massive the gap is. With the help of benchmarks, obviously, and an unfair one at that. What we did, was find a GE40 with a relic of a mechanical hard drive in it. A 7200 RPM one, so not the slowest we could find – and compared it to the GT72 Dragon Edition and its Super RAID 3 solution of 4 256GB SSDs in Crystal Diskmark. Extreme differences? You bet.
First up the HDD:
A typical hard drive result – easily surpassed by even USB 3.0 memory nowadays. Peaks of just over 60MB in sequential read and nearly grinding to a standstill in the 4K tests.
Super RAID 3 though – it monsters the HDD (and, to be fair, everything else on the market). Not surprisingly, exactly, but with 1.5GB/s (not Gb, GB, Gigabyte) sequential read speed it is what you call fast. Windows 8 loads quickly with one SSD, but with four in RAID0, you’re barely given time to blink.
Best of all, with a 4x256GB SSD, there’s plenty of room for your games on the RAID array, meaning you can always be the first onto the battlefield in games, as your maps will load so much faster than the opposition’s.

Super Raid Storage, is not enough!!

Hi guys, I have bought a GS70 a couple of weeks ago... for someone coming from Desktop PC, the Performance has been great and the Raid0 is way faster than what i were expecting....
But Super Raid with 256 GB is not enough for a heavy gamer like myself :(, with a couple of games installed, suddenly i dont have enough space for more games... and i have already moved all my multimedia files to the D drive, but still not enough space for my AC IV..... AND i have it now on my hands....
have anybody tried to upgrade the Super Raid to 512GB???

Here it is... step by step how i upgraded the Super raid... since i couldn't find it on the internet... here i am sharing it... i am actually doing a video to post it on my blog :D
1) Give up warranty: 2 years warranty is a lot of time... but if you are as crazy for details as i am... you can just give it up and enjoy of the 512 GB super raid :cool:
2) Open Back Cover: Several screw to remove.... but if you have experience open any PC (no matter desktop or notebook) should be a piece of cake.
Inside quality is very very good... you can also clean the CPU and GPU fan to extend its useful life.
3) Remove mSata *2
4) Put the UPGRADE in....
5) Put back cover back... Be careful, there are two longer screw... they are supposed to be by the hinge..

MSI Super Raid (Raid 0)

Hi I've got two sandisk-x110-128gb-mlc-sata-iii-sd6sf1m ssd disk in my MSI GE70 Apache Pro I have this disks in Raid 0= MSI Super Raid but i have only read about 650 and write about 500 I ask in sandisk forum and they told me to upgrade firmware for this ssd I tried sandisk software for upgrade but software don't recognize ssd..also they told me these ssd is OEM manufactured..and MSI provide update of firmware.. How can I update firmware on these ssd? For better performance :-)

XServe RAID RAID5 performance?

I would like to know how the XServe RAID performs in RAID5.
We are using multiple FC and SCSI RAID-subsystems at work and we need a bigger one by the end of the year.

The Xserve RAID is specifically tuned for RAID 5 performance -- RAID 5 is about 99% as fast as RAID 0. Unless you were hosting a database on the RAID, and doing lots of small I/Os, there is no reason to use any other RAID scheme on Xserve RAID

With some info... not very detailed. If you can get ahold of an eval unit (Apple's direct sales force has a program for this), you can run Iozone benchmarks on one, and see how it might fit your usage pattern.

but I have some confusion.
If I install 2 64GB mSATA and run with Super RAID
does the total storage I have is 128GB?
besides, does 128GB enough for system?

I recently bought GT70 Dragon Edition (2202). It includes 128 GB mSATA SSD (SK Hynix)I want to add 2 more mSATA (maybe Samsung Evo (2x128GB). So my questions are:
Can I make super raid with 1 Hynix ssd and 2 Samsung or I have to buy 3 from same type (this will be lame, it will not make sense of having 128GB already)

well what i read around on this forum is No if you have 2 samsung evo and 1 hynix it may not function as good together it is then recommended for you to buy 3 samsung evo instead for it's best preformance and stability secondly to solve on how to get windows from exisiting SSD would be runing burnrecovery tool that would create recovery image for you either for dvd, usb or as .iso parts such as dvd.iso dvd1.iso and so on that you would need to burn as discs but best would be doing USB one on 32GB USB but you can make iso ones as well incase you lose USB or so.

Quick question, I'm interested in the new GT70 2PE-1069NL (1x 128GB msata SSD) or the GT70 2PE-1063NL (2x 128GB msata SSD).
Now, I'm wondering if the 1069 already features a Super RAID 2 expansion bay, so I can add my own msata SSD if I want to.
The difference between the two is €200,- and I'm wondering if it's worth the RAID 0 setup and the 4GB RAM extra. The 1063 also features a Blu ray player, but I won't use that.
Also, what msata SSD is in the 1069 and 1063?

Most likely they BOTH have the mSATA SuperRaid2 card.
For the €200, I would go for it. 4 GB more RAM, another 128 GB SSD, and a blue ray player to me makes it worth it.
No idea regarding what SSD or chipset it uses. It can vary from notebook to notebook since they will (most likely, I don't know this for sure...just guessing) probably buy whatever they can get for the cheapest.
Most likely it will be a SF2281 based card though. Atleast, that's my guess.

MSI Z87-G45 Super Raid setup questions

I have a MSI Z87-G45 board and two SSD's. I have never setup raids before but plan to do so. I saw there is a app to install for Super Raid. I thought I had to setup raid before installing windows? Seeing the app is something I can download from the MSI Live Update app it makes me think I can setup this up after windows has been installed. Is this correct?
If not how do I go about setting up Raid? I don't mind reinstalling windows if I need to. I did not see raid options in the Bios.

I bet that mSATA is controlled By that same controller and so you cant use some of your SATA port same time as you use those mSATA cards, SSDs,...
To need to get in BIOS and change to RAID makes it kinda HW RAID and so that "Best Solution" is kinda wrong. As you can format it in current Windows, but you need to reg edit before or you get Blue Screen and so cant get in OS.
You have had allways chanse to use diffrent drives like HDD's and SSD's in mix When they have same data cable like SATA. The speed and size, go like allways higer rules.
I need to read more in to this Super RAID. But i ges you arent in useing mSATA, so use it like normal HW RAID and get real intel drives for it (in USB stick) before os install and install them on screen you choose your drive. That way you dont need to update them after install

MSI Super RAID 2 Triple mSATA Adapter Board

I bought the MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro 890 laptop.
Its the basic one with only 12gb ram and 1x 1tb hhd. It was $1800 vs the $2100 of the one that came with 16gb ram and a 128gb msata (includes raid board though)
I bought this one, as I already have a 1tb Samsung evo 2.5"ssd. And 2x8gb corsair vengeance ram sticks. Plus the 128gb board is rather small amount of memory, I use laptop for 3d animation and 4k video editing. 128gb would maybe fit a single project. So $300 difference for a $116 raid board, $40 4gb ram stick, and $55 for 128gb msata. I don't need/want the 4gb ram or the 128gb msata, so it would've meant paying $300 for a $116 msata raid board.

This would work right? I'm fairly certain. I would just need a bios update for the raid controller to be enabled, when I go to msi and drivers for my laptop theres always 2, one for raid setup and one without.
My main question is, this board accepts 3x msata, and msi brags about this and its 1500mbps capability. But I want to know if I could use this board and not use raid. Just have 3x msata as 3 separate drives. Then dump in 3x 1tb Samsung evo msata's. And if I can, would this controller allow all separate 500-550mbps transfer, or would it limit the individual transfer rates?

I was thinking that since super raid 2 or whatever its called, fully allows all three msata drives to operate with full bandwidth while theyre in raid, hence the 1500mbps read 1000-1100 write speeds, that all sata connections are indeed full sata 3 and with/without raid would still allow full bandwidth speeds. I guess im just curious about the controller itself, being able to hand 3 separate feeds and providing optimum bandwidth to each individual drive.
My 'ideal' plans, are 1tb Samsung evo msata x3 (though the crucial m500 480gb msata on sale for $200 are quite tempting), and my 1tb Samsung evo 2.5". I'd have OS on one msata, source files on another, and output files on the third msata, with temp file/cache/scratch disk being the 2.5" drive.
Either that, or pick up the last 8gb ram stick needed to max out ram at 32gb, make a 12ish gb ram disk for scratch disk. Then use the 2.5" for files and games and such.

Hello guys.. i need help about this particular Laptop...im about to buy it in portugal...and my question is...Is possible to Upgrade de internal hard drive with the Super Raid SSD?.. i mean.. this pc have the slots to instal the two SSD? apart form the HDD 1000Gb...like other models.. that already have the x2 SSD + 1HDD included.
I know that this model only have 1 disk the 1000HDD...just wondering if is possible to instal a Super Raid SSD on it..

super raid SSD is only a function in laptop so any SSD should work as long it meets slots type like if it has msata then it's msata that counts for SSD or if it has M.2 msata or w.e new version is called then you gota make sure you buy that and so on.
Update: what i can see is that your model has 2x msata slots so you would need to buy 2x msata also you do need 2 screws since msata does not come with screws.

K9A Platinum Low Raid 0 Performance?

hi i just build this pc a few days ago and i did some tests on my raid using HD Tach (and on a website called pcpitstop.com)
both of these seem to be reporting my hard drives are doing no more than 80MB/s ... even though i have setup RAID 0 for 3 drives on the utility with the motherboard,
a friend of mine (who uses 4 drives in raid 0 of EXACTLY the same type of hard drive) gets more than 320MB/s on his drives ....
i fail to see how 3 of my drives = 80 MB/s, whilst 4 of his = 320MB/s
I installed the driver and took off the jumper at the back of the drive (to make them SATA II)
I checked the RAID config utility and all the settings seem to be perfect, however the drives seem to be failing to deliver the transfer speed i am looking for ...
My IDE drive is comparable to this setup, which kind of defies the point of me paying so much money for a RAID setup that's giving me the performance of only one of my drives
Windows recognises one drive, and says RAID 0 so i guess the RAID is working it's just not performing properly
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

firstly some more computer specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 bit dual core 5000+
Graphics: ATI x1950XT-X Crossfire Edition (Single card at the moment)
Mobo: K9A Platinum (havent updated bios yet)
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W
RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator DHX PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
HDD: 3xSeagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - (Took the jumpers off the back to make them SATA II)
The motherboard uses the ATI XPRESS 3200 chipset, which supports up to 4x SATA II Drives, this is what i have used to connect the hard drives to. The Motherboard also offers a RAID utility for 0,1, and 0+1 RAID - i have used raid 0 with block size 128KB (it offered 64 or 128), FastInit was ON, and the other 2 settings i couldnt change, i activated all drives to the array and setup (in the BIOS) for the SATA's to be seen as a RAID configuration.
The latest drivers i used was catalyst 7.5 available from ATI website, the drivers on the CD dont work because i use Vista 64, and the CD says it doesnt support my OS, so i downloaded them.
In response to windows seeing the RAID .... i meant it see's one normal hard drive but the disk comes up as a RAID SCSI device in Propeties -> Hardware, that is the name the RAID utility (straight after POST) gives to the array i think, and so windows recognises it as one.

GT70-0NC SSD upgrade with Super RAID

I have MSI GT70-0NC-51US laptop. It does not have RAID right now, but I purchased it with a thought in mind that I’d be upgrading it to Super RAID 0 as it was advertised, as some variations of this model already have Super RAID 0. Now I am ready to do it. This laptop has 750GB HDD and primary 128GB SSD. I will be replacing my current SSD with 2 new identical mSATA SSDs. What do I need for that? Will I be able to just plug 2 SSDs? Do I need to purchase RAID card from MSI? Which? How? And where do I get if I need it?

According to their web site from my model profile " Super RAID with 2 SSD RAID0 gives you over 800MB/s storage speed!!

It most likely is.
I don't believe that the GT70 0NC and GT70 0NE motherboards are different.
I wish I could take my laptop apart right now and show you, but basically, the SuperRaid and the normal SATA adapter plug into a connector on the motherboard. This connector actually has support for 2 x SATA disks. If you use the SuperRaid, you can use both SATA channels. If you use the normal SATA adapter, you only utilize 1 of the SATA channels (and the other is unused, and cannot be used). Since both of these adapters have the same plug going into the motherboard, one can assume that EVERY GT70 laptop has support for the SuperRaid ADAPTER, just not every laptop comes with the superraid adapter (such as your laptop).
Most likely, you'll have to see if you can search online and find someone selling the GT70 SuperRaid adapter, and buy that. Maybe talk to some resellers, usually they will sell you the parts as well.
