WTH ? HP Recovery Media DVD check failure

HP Recovery media creation failed to check DVD ?
I was creating a recovery media with 5 DVD method and then it failed to check Recoverydisc 1 of 5.
Help will be really appreciated!

If the dvd fails verification you will need to make another set. Be sure to use good quality such as Sony or Verbatim- no Memorex or Maxell.

  • Recovery media dvds

    this might be a stupid question but i rather be sure then to mess something up. i recently ordered some Acclaim recovery dvds and they say satellite l450d series on them. my laptop is l455d so, is this media the same for my laptop.
    I also have another question, can i repair windows system files from the recovery dvds or would it have to be a complete reinstall?

    Well I did as suggested called about getting a replacement recovery media cd and was told since i ordered them 6 months ago they are not replaceable. Seems strange to me if a man orders some recovery media as a back-up to have incase something like this situation happens he wont have to order them and wait on the to come he will have them as a back-up like i did (or i thought i did ). I was told I shouldve checked them when I recieved them, now why would i need to check them if i didnt need them they are for an emergency use. thanks for the help guys i tried to even make copies of the file to another hard drive to see if maybe i could swap out the disks when prompted for the PREINST12.SWM file but the copy procees gets stuck at 277mb left in the copying of the 12.SWM file, but yet i can copy all the other files  on the disk. I guess the moral is dont buy the disks to put back and save incase you might have an issue or if you do go ahead and try a system recovery the second you recieve the disks from Toshiba cause a file might not have copied correctly and they will replace it. Again thanks for the help sorry about the venting i just think its a bit rediculous to be treated like this when the disk cost me another $30 to repurchase cause my laptop is screwed without it.

  • Re-Installing Windows 7 Using Recovery Media (DVD's)

    Notebook: HP-430 Notebook
    OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
    HDD: 298 GB
    When i newly bought my HP-430 notebook, I re-partitioned HDD using some other third party software.I created one additional partition (M:\). Here is the info, of how i had repartitioned....
    C:\  - 100GB (changed from 284 GB to 100 GB).
    D:\  - Did not make any changes.
    M:\  - 184 GB (Created a drive by my self).
    Then after some days for testing purpose i thought of using recovery manager. So i run the setup and chose the First option (System Restore) which said that it will only reformat the system drive (C:\), and will not perform any other HDD changes. But to my surprise it deleted/reformated the full HDD, and i lost all my documents, music, photos, and all my important files, which i had stored/backed up on M:\ (which i had created)....
    Can some one tell me why the hack this happened.....????
    Then now, next point. After recovery manager had restored the OS, i again repartitioned it, But this time with Windows Disk Management Tool. But Windows Disk Management didnt allow me to shrink(resize) the C:\(Systemdrive) less than 150 GB. So i resized C:\ to 150 GB from 284 GB, and created one more drive (M:\) of size 147 GB. And i deleted the Recovery Drive (D:\), but i have created the Recovery DVD's before deleting Recoevery Drive from my HDD.
    Again now its time for me to reinstall Windows 7 using Recovery media, as i have messed up with some system files while installing a theme for Windows 7, and now my OS is completely unstable. So now i want to reinstall windows 7, but I cant understand which option to chose in recovery manager (when run from Recovery DVD's)
    Options shown in recovery manager
    1. Recover using Microsoft Recovery
    2. System Recovery (The option which i had chosen for the first time and got all my stuff deleted)....it says it only reinstalls the OS and wont perform any other HDD changes.
    3. Minimised Image Recovery
    4.Factory Reset.
    So now my question to you guys is that.......which option do i chose in recovery manager so that all my backed up content and my stuff on M:\ (which i created) wont be deleted..and the OS will be reinstalled.....
    PLIZZZZZ HELPPPPPPPPPPPP.........................
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    I don't believe that any of the recovery options from the Disc will retain your custom partition - As far as I know, the only time you will get a prompt to keep a custom partition is when using the 'Minimized Image Recovery' option from the Recovery Partition D which you have removed.
    You could try the following work-around.
    Download the correct Windows 7 Disc Image from the link below - this must be exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the version you would need to download.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
    Use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
    Use the disc you create to perform the installation - when you get to the option to choose the type of installation, choose Custom and select the C partition.
    When asked, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook, then when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

    Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Which Recovery Media DVDs are unique for each delivered pc?

    This is related to the other thread: what is "boot media" and "data media"
    Having just finished making recovery media for the E520 I've just purchased for my daughter, I'm soon going to need to repeat the process for the other identical E520 I've just purchased for my other daughter.
    I'm lead to believe that the Windows 7 media is unique for each pc, but during the creation of the recovery media, the process created 4 x DVD.
    1. Bootable CD/DVD.
    * Volume label: CD_ROM
    * 305 MB
    2. Recovery DVD 0.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD0
    * 3.62 GB
    3. Recovery DVD 1.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD1
    * 4.04 GB
    4. Recovery DVD 2.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD2
    * 1.22 GB
    Do I need to make another complete set of 4 x CD/DVD or is only one of these unique for that pc hardware?
    This is for a Thinkpad E520 (1143CTO) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If the systems really are identical you don't really need to make another set, the set you made will work.  That said, it can't be a bad thing to have two sets in case one set get's damaged, lost or whatever.
    In such situations I prefer wearing belt and braces.

  • P2PP Boot Check Failed - Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition (Windows 7) using Recovery Media

    Hello, My name is Brandon Giesel and I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition laptop. I've been using Windows 7 recovery media (part # 689366-002) to attempt to restore my computer back to factory defaults. I run the recovery dvds as instructed with disc 1, disc 2, disc 3, and application and driver recovery dvd. I've tried reseting the bios back to setup defaults to be safe and I use the boot device options to select the built-in dvd/cd-rom drive. I've also installed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium using the box set dvd I have laying around home and it installed no problem and boots to the desktop, but ofcourse doesn't have all the necessary drivers and hp software. I did this to confirm that hardware works properly. The computer also passes the start-up test. Memory and Hard Drive passed the test. The recovery seems to go through without a hitch until I hit the end and I get an error message that I believe is pointing to the network controller not functioning correctly. Error message down below... I used the same recovery media that I've used successfully in the past and tried 3 different sets of recovery media all with matching part numbers with no success. I also tried installing Windows using a MS box installation disc and installed the Realtec Ethernet Controller driver thinking that if I got the ethernet driver installed before doing the recovery that it would allow the recovery to go through successfully, but that didn't work either. Do you guys or gals have any ideas or suggestions on possible fixes? I'm open to advanced solutions. I've gone through Microsoft Windows 8.1 MCSA certification training, but this one has me absolutely stumped.  Serial #: 2CE31510V5Product #: A5F76AVBios Version: F.0AProcessor Type: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.3GHz Originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit  Error message: Recovery Manager: "The recovery attempt has failed. You're very welcome.
    What you do to alleviate the issue is up to you, like I said.
    I could think of more draconian methods to dim the lights.
    You can get some black nail polish, or black enamel car paint in one of those small bottles, and paint over them if you want.
    You can figure out a way to break them.
    They are not designed to be turned off or dimmed with software or settings.

  • Cannot burn recovery dvd disc in toshiba recovery media creator and windows 8

    I just purchased a satellite Pro L875 with blu ray writer.
    When I use the recovery media creator, error message come up, asked me to check if the media was broken or scatched.
    The dvd had some data written on it and it was not blank after the error message.
    I tried to burn dvd disc in windows 8 alone. it did not start burning. I only added the file to be burnt on the optical drive.
    I played dvd and blu ray on the drive. it had no problem.
    How to get it burn recovery disc and normal data disc?
    I found information about try to use the appropiate dvd disc with the speed that matches the burner speed.
    How to know what blu ray rw, dvd rw speed my blue ray writer support?
    it would be great if anyone answer my questions and will get the drive to burn some disc..

  • Can't create recovery media -- R&R doesn't see USB dvd-r drive

    I have a cheap asus usb dvd-r drive.  When I plug it in, everything's recognized by windows 7, however, when I get to the screen in create recovery media where I have to selected my device to record on, the drop down menu is blank and I can't select my USB dvd-r drive.  I have seen some other threads telling me to uninstall the driver and restart, but that hasn't worked.  Any ideas?
    x201 tablet, windows 7 32-bit

    plsfoldthx, welcome to the forum,
    please do and check the following; attach the drive when the system is turned off, start the system and then enter bios (F1). Navigate to and open the startup menu and check that the drive is recognised by bios, hit F10 and then enter to save and exit. The system will restart.
    Once windows has booted have another look in R&R to see if the drive is recognised.
    I've always suspected that R&R calls up it's drive information from bios because hot plugging a drive has never worked for me with R&R.

  • Using Recovery Media on External DVD Drive

    Now that I know my internal dvd drive is fried, can I use my recovery media utilizing my external dvd drive?
    I have a x205 9800 running Windows 7.
    I put the recovery media in the external dvd drive and it still wants to run it from the internal.
    I have disabled my internal "mat**bleep**a dvd ram uj-850s".  No luck.
    Any help would be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Tamkhai,
    The USB dvd drive is plugged into my laptop.  I am able to get into the boot up area with F12, but it will only allow me to change the order.  I put the USB to the top of the list.  I restart the computer and it brings up the Toshiba Recovery window.  I select OK.  It says "Insert Disc 1."  I insert disc 1 into the external and then it tries to utilize the internal dvd drive.  Even if I disable it or uninstall the dvd drive it still wants to go directly to it.

  • Recovery Media for Tecra R840 - What size USB or DVD?

    What size USB (or DVD media) is needed to create the basic recovery media?  I saw the post for the user who also had MS Office 2010, but what size USB (or DVDs) would be needed to create the basic recovery media (ie, without the Office suite) - a search of the manual failed to provide the answer?
    Thanks - FB

    I believe the Recovery Media Creator should specify if you continue to go through it.

  • Create recovery media Demands dual layer DVD's

    Good evening everyone.
    I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.
    3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
    (These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
    The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.
    So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question.
    While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed"
    The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)
    Searching this forum pointed me to :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03481733&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N80
    Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to
    (in this case it is Drive F:\ for internal drive)
    I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.
    I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…
    Link to a screenshot: (you need to copy paste it into your browser apparently)
    http://loxsvc.netau.net/HP/HP%20Discss.png
    This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable.
    If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software.
    but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.
    Any suggestions besides buying DL DVD's?
    Thank you for your time

    Hey @SCamm ,
    To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.
    Dual-layer recording allows DVD-R and DVD+R discs to store significantly more data. DVD+R DL also called DVD+R9 are what is needed to create the Recovery media on this notebook.  Sorry to say.
    Thanks.

  • Repeated failure in burning recovery media

    I have problem creating recovery media out of the Lenovo_recovery partition on my T420.
    It starts to write the DVD and actually finishes burning but when verifying the disk gives an error at 83% (I've tried 4 times so far). Then asks for a new as disk1.
    I appreciate any help.

    You may have a bad batch of DVDs.  Some brands work better then others, IE Sony vs memorex, etc.
    A free disc analysis tool is available at NERO.COM Select the download button,free tools. Nero Discspeed is the utility you want.  Install it, and scan your DVDs for errors.

  • Won't boot from Toshiba Recovery Media; Will boot from Win 8 builder DVD

    Satellite L855-S5309, Windows 8, 64-bit
    Created 2 sets of Windows 8 Recovery Media using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.  First set a year ago, created a new set yesterday.
    The laptop will not boot to either set (DVD 1).   The DVD is bootable in another machine.  EUFI is grayed out.
    Tried a Windows 8 DVD store bought.  It booted from this DVD.
    The big question:  Why won't the Toshiba laptop see its own DVD it created for recovery?
    Win 8 Repair DVD - boots from USB drive but won't see DVD files on drive.  Is this the image?
    Do I need to order the recovery media?

  • Creating Recovery Media on Shared R/W DVD

    On my Toshiba netbook (n508) I can map a drive to a shared DVD R/W but when I go to create a recovery DVD it only offers me a choice of a USB drive.   I cannot see buying the Toshiba external DVD or a 16 GB pen drive for a one time use when I have a shared DVD drive and a 2 GB pen drive for all other uses.   How do I use the shared DVD drive to create the back up DVDs?
    It would be so much simpler if Toshiba included recovery disks.  It would not cost that much in quantity and would solve a lot of headaches for the users.

    Recovery media can be created on CDs, DVDd or USB flash drives, but not on USB HDDs. If the external storage firmware is designed in such a way that it detects the device as Flash drive, it can work.
    best is to use USB flash drive because when you create the recovery media on a USB drive, one generally do not use it for any other purpose. this is to avoid any curruption or virus related issues. dedicated 16GB USB flash drive is recommended, need not block your 320GB drive for recovery image anyways.
