  • Oracle9i Installation on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition

    Hi,
I'm trying to Install Oracle 9i Database server on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition. I have gone throgh the Oracle 9i release notes for the Linux version. In the release notes document, in the OS Software Requirement section ( the following statement is mentioned as below ):
"The following executables must present in the /usr/bin directory : make, ar, ld, nm"
But after the Linux insalltion I found that only make executable is present and other doesn't. My doubt is, if I continue with the Oracle Installtion without these files does the installer cause any problems? If so how do I get these executables, as these executables doesn't exist in the "Software Installation" listing of SuSe 7.3 Professional edition?
Another doubt is, Does SuSe 7.3 Professional edition suitable for Oracle 9i Database server? I checked the Kernal version, it seems to be OK.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

  • Oracle Virtual Directory 10.1.4.0.1 installation on SUSE SLES10

I am attempting to install Oracle Virtual Directory version 10.1.4.0.1 on a brand new SUSE SLES10 Linux server. The installation fails due to missing libraries. This is true whether using the GUI or the console installation. The same set of binaries installs fine on a SLES8 and a SLES9 server.
The OVD 10.1.4.0.1 release notes and certification guide indicate that SLES10 is a supported platform. However, I cannot get the installer to work.

Here is the reply that I received from Oracle Support. The proposed workaround worked in my case. I am posting it here so that it may help others.

    1.) cp ovid1014.bin ovid1014.bin.bak
    2.) cat ovid1014.bin.bak | sed "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" > ovid1014.bin
    3) run the modified installer: ./ovid1014.bin

  • Linux installation in SuSE 10.2

Has anyone been able to get LabVIEW 8 to work on SuSE 10.2? Signs of success or pointers would be welcome. I do not understand the need for LabVIEW to run such an ancient version of the Mesa libraries. The lib this is trying to use dates to 1999 or so and so far I have not had much in the way off success.
    Bob Taylor

When you compile a LabVIEW VI into an executable the resulting executable will require the LabVIEW Run Time Engine to run.  The version of the RTE depends on which version of LabVIEW was used to build that application so if it was built with LabVIEW 8.2 then it will depend on the LabVIEW 8.2 RTE.  Just like LabVIEW versions you have multiple versions of the LabVIEW RTE installed at the same time.
So if you didn't already guess where I was going with this, some of the NI-VISA utilities are just LaVIEW VIs compiled executables, and they were built with LabVIEW 8.2 which is why NI-VISA installs the LabVIEW 8.2 RTE.  This is completely normal and won't affect your LabVIEW installation in any way.

  • Oracle 9i installation on SuSE 7.3 freezes

    Hello-
just tried to install Oracle 9i on my SuSE 7.3 Linux box. After
the software installation I tried to create a new database
with "dbca", but when Oracle starts to create the database it
freezes the whole system. I can't even move the mouse cursor
    then.
    What's wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Wojtek

Some screensavers on KDE on SuSE 7.3 freezes; Oracle9i behaves
erratically on my incarnation of 7.3 during installation. I've
had it lock up the session, log off the session, and tank the
whole computer. All while trying to install the database
    product.
I have not tried the various tips and such found here yet.
Most Linux installations allow multiple window managers,
selectable at logon; perhaps any KDE issues can be circumvented
by using a less complex wm...?

    Hi Sudheer,
I am sorry but I guess you are using the wrong versions here
SAP does not support SUSE11 and also Java version should be 1.4.2.....
SAP only supports SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10,SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9,SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8
Refer to SAP notes 171356 for SAP on Linux
    1172419 for Java versions
    These are highly useful
Let me know if you need any other info.

  • MHDDK installation on SUSE 11.2

    Hi,
Has anybody successfully installed MHDDK Linux26 driver on SUSE 11.2?
I've seen the instructions in the MHDDK readme file and I seem to be having trouble setting up and configuring the Kernel source so that the driver will compile.  I wondered if anybody could elaborate further on exactly what steps are required?  I am definitely missing something...  I've rebuilt my system about 5 times - it's time to ask for further directions.
    Thanks.
    Erick

    This is quite a pain.
Here is what I had to do:
    ==================
    1.    Configure kernel sources.  When installing Suse 11.2 from DVD, select the
'Software' option (at the final installation screen) and add Base
Development, C/C++ Development, and Kernel Development.  This loads a
matching source tree to the running kernel.  Then Log in into a root
console (superuser) and configure the compile environment to reflect your
        actual set up.
        cd /usr/src/linux
        make cloneconfig
        make modules_prepare
    2.    Add Module.symvers to /usr/src/linux according to this method:
        cp /boot/symvers-2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop.gz /usr/src/linux
        mv symvers-2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop.gz Module.symvers.gz    (rename file in /usr/src/linux)
        gunzip /usr/src/linux/Module.symvers.gz
        make modules_prepare
If you don't do this you will get missing Module.symvers warning and your
        module will not install.
    3.    nirlpk.c has errors. Remove all variables that had errors.  Just that
simple - remove the variable or the whole line if it's there by itself.
        See attached nirlpk.c and http://forums.ni.com/t5/Driver-Development-Kit-DDK/Problem-with-the-acquireBoard-in-Linux/m-p/842080...
    4.    Edit install.sh and unistall.sh : the line with 'source Makefile.in'
generates a file not found error.  Edit to read: 'source ./Makefile.in'
        See attached files.
I ran ./lsdaq and there is life!
I have not tested uninstall yet.
I am not a Linux wiz.  If you find errors in this please post the 'right way'.  Part of the reason to post this is in case I blow up my system yet again...
    Good luck.

  • Installation - Linux Suse 9 OS Requirements

    Hi,
I have inherited a production system, which is Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 on Linux Suse 9; the configuration includes Web Cache, Portal, OID etc.
There have been several performance and stability issues and the deeper I look I find that many configuration settings are either wrong or none existent.
I have also noticed that the recommended software requirements as listed above as documented in the Oracle Application Server Installation Guide were not made and these are as follows:
    1. Linux Software requirements (Linux packages)
    2. Kernel Parameters
    3. Kernel Parameter settings for OracleAS Web Cache
    4. Kernel Parameters settings for OracleAS MR
    5. Oracle User Shell Limits
The question I have for you esteemed Oracle Professionals is will any retrospective changes have the desired stabilising effect or should I rebuild?

  • Content server installation on susi linux 9

    Hi friends
this is first time i am installing content server on linux system . and i facing too many problems as iam really not aware of linux
anway can provide me step by step details to install and configure content server on linux operating system

    Hello!
I presume (taking the name of this forum) the original question was about SAP ContentServer?
This would be a rough description how to configure a SAP CS/CSC for FileSystemStorage
    0) if linux is not your platform of choice (it would be mine) - take a different platform
    1) read and understand SAP notes, especially 664384, 586895 and related
    2) make sure you are using an enterprise linux (cf. service.sap.com/PAM)
    3) your linux installation should (amongst others) contain
        a) gcc (GNU c-compiler)
        b) gdbm-devel
        c) libexpat
in general this would be described as a development (with regard to software building) system by some linux distro's
    4) retrieve the apache 2.0.x (for allowed x: cf service.sap.com/PAM) source code to build your own apache
    5) be root user
    6) create group sapsys
    7) create user csadmin, primary group: sapsys
    8) you may want to create an own filesystem for content, e.g. /SAP
    9) as user csadmin build apache with option (amongst others) --prefix=/home/csadmin (presuming this is csadmin's HOME)
    10) if you also need the cache server (you will as soon as you have more than 1 location, repeat 6, 7 and 9 for user cscadmin
    11) as root (make sure you have X), execute sapinst from the installation  master
    12) installation almost as under Windoze - don't use AdminSecurity as it will not work with modern UNIXes (ContentServer wrongly assumes that /etc/passwd contains the crypted passwords and there's a note proposing to put it there - security alert in my humble opinion) - better to protect transaction csadmin
    13) you should be all set
I hope I didn't forget anything - this was from memory.
Contact me if you have problems.
Good luck and best regards, Markus
