WU Explorer stops working

Windows 7 SP1
In Windows Update, I have 2 optional updates available.
When I click on it, I always get this message.
Windows Explorer.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Please close the program
This has been going on for weeks and I need any suggestions to resolve this error.

This issue can be caused due to any of the following issues:
You may be using an outdated or corrupted video driver
System files on your PC may be corrupt or mismatched with other files
You may have a Virus or Malware infection on your PC
Some applications or services running on your PC may be causing Windows Explorer to stop working
To resolve it, we could follow these methods:
Update your current video driver
Run System File Checker (CFS) to check your files
Scan your PC for Virus or Malware infections
Start your PC in Safe Mode to check for startup issues
Start your PC in a Clean Boot environment and troubleshoot the issue

I have exactly the same problem with a new acer aspire. I successfully installed Itunes but windods 8.1 explorer stopped working. I had to deinstall itunes for IE to work.
Thinking I have a corrupt install file I tried a second time but with exactly the same result. I shure would like to hear an answer.

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

Hi we have a VDI environment with a link clone image for all users. Only one user(admin1) login to the virtual desktop got this error, ....windows explorer stop working and requires restart it. it is the same issue after restart it, change a PC, change another
VDI client version,always same issue. Tried other users with these pc and client and has no issue at all. All use the same pool,same snapshot and same image. Windows 7 32bit OS. also tried to delete the profile folder and let it recreate it , it's redirected
to a file server. the folder can be seen created,but empty inside. other user profile all ok. this user admin1 is a domain administrator. It's property in AD shows an extra "delegation" tab and all else look the same as other account. Since other
users ok, I believe it's not VDI issue, should be this windows user profile issue. any advice please?Thanks

Further, we may take a try to fix the user profile through the steps mentioned in the below article:

Windows explorer stopped working when trying to open a specific folder...and solution

I have had a problem with a specific folder or two on my computer, when I open the folder I get the error message that windows explorer has stopped working. It only happens with specific folders and everything else works fine.
I did a lot of reading to figure out a fix.
I finally tried right clicking the program explorer.exe located in C:Windows and chose "run as administrator" and this fixed the problem.
Note that the error message details list an application crash of windows.exe
I thought I would post this to help others. I don't know if this is the same problem some folks describe with a continual loop of the error message, problems opening the control panel or problems upon start up. But if you have a similar problem to the one I described try this very simple fix.

I don't know what OS you are running, but under Windows 7 RC build 7100 the selection was ghosted to "run as administrator".
I was able to stop the problem from happening by right clicking the folder I was having problems with, selecting properties>customize tab and changing the "Optimize this folder for:" from Videos to General Items.
I know that this particular folder was optimized for general items from the beginning as I had just folders inside which were filled with videos. When I started to move videos into this parent folder to separate them later, this parent folder switched by itself
to being optimized for Videos. I'm not positive but I think that this was the time I started to have a problem with this folder until I did what I described above.
This is my very first post, so I hope I explained things well enough to be of help to someone.

That's fixed my problem. Stopped responding every time I opened My Videos, changed the file properties to optimized for general and now the icons aren't thumbnail big but it doesn't crash now... Thank you, it was really starting to bug me.

Internet Explorer stops working

While trying to open PFD files I keep getting a error saying that Internet Explorer has stopped working, It was working fine then all of a sudden it ins't. Is anyone else having a problem like this? Anyone know of a fix?I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Just to let you know this solution worked. Thanks for the advice!
I can't understand how this happened. I guess you have to be careful what you download from the internet as the downloads seem to come with toolbar add ons that clog up the settings on your computer. I will keep your solution to hand in case something like this happens again in the future. It's okay if you've been formally trained in computer use. I'm afraid I missed the boat with computing in school.

Internet Explorer stopped working when I upgraded to Parallels 6

I am fairly capable with computers and software, so your direction to a helpful resource would be appreciated if you don't know specifically how to address my problem.
I am new to Apple as of this past April and I am still adjusting from the PC world. However, many of my programs still need Windows and one on-line subscription requires Internet Explorer. I installed Parallels and Windows 7 on my MacBookPro.
Internet Explorer 8 stopped working when I upgraded Parallels from Version 5 to Version 6. It gave me an error message and did not open. IE8 had worked just fine on Parallels 5. My inquiries to Parallels went unanswered. Nor could find a solution on the Parallels website or the internet, in general. I downloaded and tried to install IE9 Beta from the Microsoft website when I saw it offered when I tried to find a solution to my IE8 problem on-line (Safari still works). Now I receive an error message "Internet Explorer did not finish installing". But, I am unable to finish its installation or remove it so I can start over.
Any ideas??

Windows Explorer Stopped Working after Adjusting Preferences in Bridge

OK, this is the PhotoShop forum and in the Bridge forum is where this issue should be addressed, but there is little activity there, so I hope no one will mind me posting here...
The following problem occurred after adjusting the Preference settings in Bridge:
When right clicking on any folder in either the Explorer or on the Desktop the following message is displayed "Windows Explorer has stopped working..."
This is now the second time, after having created two new User Accounts. While Explorer worked perfectly for a couple of days before adjusing the settings in Birdge, I cannot undo what has caused this problem and am reluctant to setup yet another user account. Also, I can't figure out which setting change might have caused this.
Is it possible that by adjusting the settings in Bridge it added a shell extension to Windows Explorer?
Has anyone here encountered a similar problem after adjusting the settings in Bridge?

Win Explorer Stops Working & restarts

I have tried the Microsoft forums and there doesn't appear to be agreement or real understanding of a problem that is obviously occurring on a lot of PC's running Vista & 7. On my new PC with 7, at ten minute intervals a box pops up to tell me "Windows Explorer has stopped working", replaced about 20 seconds later by a box telling me "Windows is restarting". Depending on the programmes running at the time there is a momentary freeze to all commands [ for example in AutoCad it goes back a step and then jumps forward again] the screen & icons are refreshed. This doesn't do any harm to the programmes, but it is irritating to say the least as it happens so frequently. I'm amazed that Microsoft haven't sent out a fix for this common problem. My event viewer shows the the faulting module as Explorer.exe ,[ I've looked at the log of literally hundreds of Errors, they all say the same ] this doesn't help in the diagnosis, as it's a circular (chicken & egg) statement, since I believe Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are very closely tied up when running. I use Google Chrome as a browser, IE8 is ignored by me, I don't really know if it's lurking unseen and causing the regular hang-ups. Any help / advice to stop this annoying behaviour will be much appreciated

I can't open any links to a PDF from within a website. Has anyone figured out how to fix problem of not able to read pdfs online? I get message that says I"nternet Explore has stopped working". ANY ideas?

Hi,
It may be that you will need to 'reset' Internet Explorer, but you can certainly check if this issue is being caused by an add-on as follows.
Click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, open System Tools and click on 'Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)'. See if Internet Explorer now runs correctly.

Windows explorer stops working

When I am using Windows Explorer and try to Right Click on a periferal such as a Thumb Drive or external hard drive I get an error message that explorer has stoped working and the window closes.
