WVC200 Problem

Hello,
I have just bought a second hand WVC200 from Ebay, it was listed as new condition used once.
I have followed the install instructions, firstly connecting ethernet then connecting power and can't access the camera.
I have connected its ethernet to two routers, a Mac & PC, using a known good cable, and none of these devices indicate an active ethernet connection.
When I power the camera on, the camera moves left to right then up to down and returns to the centre, none of the leds activate, not even the power light.
I have activated the reset button a number of times with nil effect, and looked for the device on my WIFI router, it not attached.
I have tried direct ethernet connection to both Mac & PC with the local ethernet set to 192.168.1.1, looking for the default camera IP address 192.168.1.115
I have concluded that the camera is DOA, anyone have any suggestions as to how to coax the camera back to life, I can't see any on/off switch or anything else that should be logical.
The seller claims it was working when it was shipped....,

Hi gregm00`,
Since this is the second WVC200 device, you are already aware how to configure the unit. The port on the unit is smart port. It believe its already defective. What I can suggest is to contact the manufacturer and check what they can do.

  • WVC200 Image Quality Problem

    Hi,
    I have an WVC200 internet camera connected to WAG325N ADSL router. Image quality is too poor. There are lots of different coloured dots on image. I attached current image settings and image samples. Images are taken in good light conditions. Any solution ideas?

     So after two weeks I got a replacement WVC200 and I'm still not satisfy with the image quality, I'm not sure if the replacement is also bad or I'm expecting to much of the camera. Here are two sample images.
    What's your opinion?
    If you have any suggestion on how to improve the quality please let me know.

  • WVC200 v1.2 - Successful Wireless & DynDNS Setup with WRT54G v.6 Router

    I would just like to report that after hours of tinkering, I managed to configure the camera to run wireless as well as link up with the dynDNS service. I thought I would post the method which worked for my WRT54g/WVC200 combo. Hopefully this will help anyone still stuck on setting it up.
    You want to set everything up using wired connections exclusively until everything is working and you are ready to jump to wireless.
    Reset your WRT54G router to factory default settings. If you can't access the admin page simply press the reset button on the back of the router and hold it down for about a minute (should reset to factory spec). I am using the latest firmware for each device (linksys phone support can help you with firmware if you don't have the latest stuff, or you can look for other threads on the topic).
    Now that your router has a fresh install, unplug its power supply for now. Turn your attention to wiring. Make sure you have a powered-off PC connected to one of the ethernet ports on the router.
    Power up your router first, giving it time to boot (usually under 30 seconds). Then power up your PC and pay a visit to your blank router at http://192.168.1.1  user:admin  password:admin and leave your internet settings alone for now (they shouldnt affect your camera setup later as long as you have a typical dynamic IP internet connection)
    In the first page for the router setup, make sure you use DHCP for the local network (I believe this is the default setting) and set a healthy DHCP user limit. *Apply/Save Settings*
     In the wireless menu, broadcast on G-only, channel 6, assign an easy to remember SSID ("smithnetwork" etc) *Apply/Save Settings* . In the wireless security tab, choose WPA, TKIP, and type in a good passcode (strongest passwords are 10 or more randomly typed letters and numbers) *Apply/Save Settings*
    Click on the Administration tab, set an equally strong password to access the router setup (can be the same as your wireless encryption passcode if its strong). Additionally, make sure UPnP and Remote Management are disabled, Wireless Management enabled. *Apply/Save Settings* (this should now prompt you for the password you just created in order to return to the router setup)
    Go ahead and connect to your newly broadcasting network from a laptop wireless card etc. (which should still give you limited connectivity even if you haven't configured your internet settings yet) by going to http://192.168.1.1 in your browser like I said earlier. If you manage to get to the router menu then you know your wireless network is functioning at least to a certain degree. If you are stuck here, its probably not too complex of a problem for linksys phone tech support to get you back on track.
    Note: If you have been tweaking camera settings prior to this attempt, you might want to turn it on without any network cables hooked up and try holding the reset button down (like we did to restore the router's factory settings earlier).
    Now get your WVC200 camera and hook up the ethernet cable to one of the open ethernet ports on your router and the port on the camera. Plug in the camera's power supply. At this point, the camera should boot up, calibrate the servo motors, and attempt to join your router's LAN. If your camera does ANYTHING but connect to the network successfully and give you a local IP, you have a problem I haven't encountered and you should re-read the instructions or consider an RMA.
    Default Local IPs (assuming each device joined the network in proper order)
    Router: 192.168.1.1
    Your ethernet-wired PC: 192.168.1.2
    Your wirelessly connected laptop: 192.168.1.3
    Your camera: 192.168.1.4 (this is what your camera should display on the LCD)
    At this point you can confirm your camera is properly placed on the DHCP client table by getting into your router setup and clicking the status tab > local network > DHCP clients table. You should find your 3 devices connected, assigned the above IPs, and you should see the camera (named "WVC200" on the list). Again, if this is not the case for you using factory settings, I reccomend talking to linksys phone support or RMA the item.
    Now close all your browsers and load a fresh internet explorer, navigating to the camera's local IP address (should be http://192.168.1.4 or whatever your client table listed). This is basically how you configured your WRT54g router earlier (even uses the same admin/admin login).
    Once you're in the camera management page, click on the setup tab. Note the sub-menu that appears on the left side, click on "basic" and make sure camera name is WVC200, LCD/LED enabled, Daylight savings checked, NTP automatic server un-checked, make sure Automatic (DHCP) is set.
    Wireless SSID "smithnetwork" or whatever you assigned it earlier in the router wireless setup, network type: infrastructure. *Apply/Save Settings*
    In the same Setup > Basic menu, at the very bottom of the page should be the wireless security settings ( default should be "disabled" ). Click the "edit security settings" button, select WPA Personal, it should be on the TKIP algorithm, and don't forget to enter the wireless WPA password you created earlier on the router. *Apply/Save Settings* also: click *Apply/Save Settings* on the main page again too just to be sure it applied. The security settings should now display when you reload the page.
    While we are in setup, click on the "users" link to the left, replace the default administrator login with your own custom one, making sure to check the "enable authentication" box. *Apply/Save Settings*
    At this point, you should have your WVC200 fully configured and broadcasting video on the wired LAN, if this is not the case, I would have no clue why it wouldn't work with the same equipment and method and you are out of luck.
    Now, for the moment of truth! You should have your router right next to you with wireless ready to go (you tested this earlier) and the camera antenna installed on your WVC200. Unplug the power from the camera, unplug the ethernet cable that connects the router and camera to one another, and plug the power back into the camera. After the lens calibrates and stops moving, the wireless LED should light up and probably start flickering as it negotiates a connection with your router. It should find your network and display an IP fairly quick (probably 192.168.1.4 default). If it takes longer than 15 seconds youre probably out of luck and should double-check everything in this post and move on to a different post if it still doesn't work.
    I used to spend hours at this point, wondering why it wouldn't join my perfectly functional wireless network. It would try to connect to the wireless network for about 5 minutes, it would appear to successfully connect sometimes, but it would display the incorrect local IP address and would refuse to function regardless of its self-proclaimed connectivity. I learned that the router's WPA2 encryption was overpowering the puny WPA + TKIP on the camera even though I was using AES/TKIP combo on the router (which was supposed to make the router compatible with original WPA + TKIP devices while still letting you use WPA2). Maybe Linksys can include a fix for this in future router/camera firmware.
    To make sure the wireless is functioning properly, open up an internet explorer window and try connecting to camera management page again (http://192.168.1.4 by default) while your camera still has no ethernet cable hooked up to it. Check to make sure you can see video etc. I never experienced signal problems like other users did. This combination of router/camera worked well (-21 dB with it sitting next to the router, -39dB in the other room)
    DynDNS Service setup:
    I basically figured out that while the DNS features on the camera might be useful to some, its still buggy and there is a MUCH more powerful dynDNS feature on the WRT54g router itself. Navigate to your router (default: http://192.168.1.1 ) like you did earlier and get into the setup page. Click the "DDNS" menu and select the dyndns.org, enter your username, password, and domain name. I am assuming you already have a free dyndns account created or would otherwise have no issue setting up an account with them, so I won't cover that in my post. By clicking *Apply/Save Settings* assuming you configured your internet access through the router like you always did, the router should ask your cable/DSL modem what its WAN IP is and display it (the dynamic internet IP address that was making life difficult for you). What's nice about the router handling this task is that the router is usually first to know when the modem changes the IP (therefore it will immediately log in for you and update the dynDNS).
    **Important** This camera uses port 80 by default, so while youre still logged into the router managment page, click on the "Applications & Gaming" menu and type an application name like "linksys" , start port 80, end port 80, TCP only, specify the camera's local DHCP address (default: 192.168.1.4) and don't forget to enable it by checking the box then *Apply/Save Settings*
    I would allow at least several hours for the dynDNS servers to apply the changes before becoming concerned, but who knows maybe it will work right away for you. At this point, you should have plenty of functionality to play with the rest of the features of the camera, enjoy! I will post any additions/revisions if need be.

    Hello -sloth !
    Very easy understanding guide !
    I have made all what you suggested.
    But now I cannot add the camera in the monitor > setup page.
    I can see the camera in the camera list WVC200.
    IP 192.168.15.101
    port 80
    But when I press add, I get  "connection fail".
    Is the port still 80 - since the Channel is set to  6
    I have done no port forwarding as other has suggested.
    Checking with the browser at : 192.168.15.101
    Page can't be found .....
    The router says:
    WVC200 192.168.15.101 LAN 00:18:39:35:6A:13 23:24:26
    The camera displays the same ip .......
    The router setup page : Local IP 192.168.15.1
        IP Address Range :  192.168.15. 100 to 149
    I have made a system restore, and installed the camera sw again.
    If I unplug the lan and turn to wireless the camera LCD display: 192.168.1.115 DHCP
    But that page cannot be found ......

  • WVC200 1.2.0 firmware - or is it?

    Hmm, perhaps I should have left well enough alone. I've had my WVC200 working fine for a while - it emails on motion detection, and saves pics via FTP. But I moved it and thought I should check the web for updates.
    I got to the UK Linksys page at:
    http://www-uk.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=UK%2FLayout&cid=1175234040971&packedargs=sku%3DWVC200&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=4097140971B01&displaypage=download#versiondetail
    and it showed
    "Web UI 1.2.0 7/03/2007"
    in the Firmware section.
    It downloaded as a 4MB bin file, and on a quick look through this forum I saw 1.2.0 mentioned a few time. Fired up IE, did the update, seemed to go OK... but after a restart I got that sinking feeling.
    The display on the WVC200 comes up OK with the correct LAN or WLAN IP. And I still get my photos and vidclips. But, when I run IE and go to the camera's webpage I get the login prompt (seems to work) but no text or buttons!
    It's like the normal blue/black template page, but all the text and buttons are gone. There's a Linksys logo at top left, a Cisco one at bottom right, and "WVC200" at top right. Oh, and a zero and a copyright symbol at bottom left. But no buttons, and the pic in the middle is a red cross (not found in other words).
    I've rebooted the WVC200 a few times with no change. Tried a different PC in case it was a cache problem. But still no buttons!
    It seems to just be the Web UI since the PVC2300 app on my laptop still operates the camera as normal.
    My big problem is that sometimes I use the camera on a different LAN, so I need to be able to change its IP address occasionally.
    Help! Is it worth me trying the reset procedure? (Haven't tried that 'cos at least I have *some* functionality at the moment.)
    Or is there another way to reflash the camera with an earlier firmware? Like a TFTP app or something? I have both the v1.0.1r00 and v1.1.0.r03 BIN files.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks for the idea helm, I've just tried it... but no luck. The tftp app just gives "Unable to get responses from the server.".
    I'm trying this from a laptop connected to the WVC200 with a crossover Cat5.
    From the same laptop I can ping the camera OK, and the linksysOne app works as well: I can see the camera's video, PTZ works OK, scheduled recording, etc. And I see the camera returns to its motion-detection position after 1min - which is what I had it set at.
    But when I use IE, I get the logon prompt and then the empty page with no controls.
    What's really infuriating is that I had a look through the source code to find the name of the firmware upgrade page:
    http://192.168.9.6/adm/file.cgi?next_file=upg_fw.htm
    in the case of my particular camera.
    The page comes up like the home page... just a blue template, although there's a Browse... that lets me select a BIN file, there's no "Start Upgrade" control. :-(
    The camera seems to be completely OK except for the web front-end. Surely there's some way I can force it to accept and flash the correct BIN file?! I mean, linksysOne has the PTZ etc controls built into an app... it seems very likely to me that the Linksys dev people have an app with the firmware-burning bit in it. But, apart from that TFTP app you spotted, I don't see anything else on the Linksys FTP site that looks likely to help.
    I feel really stupid for flashing the camera with what I *guessed* was a new firmware in the absence of a readme... but what the heck is the BIN and why has Linksys put it in the firmware download section for the WVC200?!

  • I need help configuring three products: WRVS4400N, WAG325N and WVC200

    Hello,
    I want your help in three linksys products as mentioned below:
    WAG325N ADSL2+ Router
    WVC200 PTZ CAMERA
    WRVS4400N VPN Router
    The computer connections and configuration of above linksys products which I am working with and which are connected with the above three linksys products at present are as follows:
    1) I have one server and one laptop.
    2) Laptop has two wireless adapters which I use to connect to the routers.
    3) The server is connected to the WRVS4400N Router through one of the four ethernet ports mentioned on backside of the WRVS4400N Router. The DHCP of this router is disabled by me and the router's default IP 192.168.1.1 was changed to 192.168.1.12
    4) The WRVS4400N router is connected to the Wag325N router for internet access to the server and server is connected to WRVS4400N Router as mentioned in point number 3 above.
    5) The WAG325N router is setup as per the instructions mentioned that came with the CD of this router. The only change that I have modified is the router's default IP. I have changed the default IP of WAG325N from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.13 and DHCP is enabled on this router.
    The help that I want is step by step as follows:
    1) I want to configure the both routers in such a way so that I can access them from anywhere across the world i.e. remotely using internet.
    2) I have WVC200 Camera which I setup according to instructions mentioned in the CD and also configured the DDNS service. But when the " RJ45 Cable is connected " to my WAG325N router and Camera, then only the camera works properly. What I want is that after the setup is completed, I want to remove the RJ45 Cable connected from my camera to router and use the camera wirelessly from any location within the range of my above mentioned WAG325N router. I need flexibility to use my camera without cable connections from any location and any rooms of my house. I also configured the port forwarding and DDNS properly. The only problem is that if I remove the Cable after the setup of camera is finished, then the camera access is not working on LAN or internet(through DDNS). Whereas the same works on LAN and internet using the DDNS service, when the cable is physically connected to the WAG325N router. Also I want one more thing additionally other then this. I want to use this camera wirelessly by configuring the port forwarding options on both routers at a same time(i.e. simultaneously at once on WRVS4400N and WAG325N).
    3) Now as two DHCP cannot work at a same time and as my routers are connected with each other, So I have disabled the DHCP on WRVS4400N. Here I need help so that DHCP can be enabled on both at a same time. Because if the DHCP is not enabled on WRVS4400N then I have to give IP to the server which is connected with server. If I enable the DHCP then there are two DHCP's at a same time on same network and thus problems occurs in internet access to the server. So, what should I do in such a way so that I do not have to give any IP to my server and set it to automatic.
    4) This question is just for my knowledge so that I can use the above mentioned linksys purchases upto full extent possible in future. I want to know what is VPN and how is it usefull? What is the difference between VPN and VPN tunnel? How can VPN be used to access all my network resources connected with my server  in the above situation where my server is connected to WRVS4400N which in turn is connected to WAG325N?
    Thanks !
    Sincerely

    for question number 1:
    you said that your main router is WAG325N, for you to remotely access the 2nd router is for you to forward the IP addr [192.168.1.12] on your first router and change its management port of your second router that is located on either the security tab or the administration tab on its User Interface
    to access your first router open and Internet Explorer and enter
    http://[public IP addr]:[management port]
    the PUBLIC IP or INTERNET IP is located on the status page of your router
    to access your second router just change the management port to
    ex.
    http://66.77.88.99:8080 first router
    http://66.77.88.99:8081 second router
    for question number 2:
    make sure that you have configured all wireless settings on both your camera and your main router WAG235N, once done save settings and power down your camera and power it back up.
    for question number 3:
    for you to enable DHCP on both routers your connection can go like so...
    from a regular port of your main router going to the INTERNET port of your second router [this way you can enable DHCP on both routers]. INTERNET is no problem, your cesond router will be able to get connection
    for question number 4:
    VPN - Virtual Private Network
    VPN tunnel -is/are connections from router to router [gateway to gateway]
    VPN is used to connect a diff network on a diff location for you to have access to the shared filed [it is like a file sharing through the internet]
    for you to be able to use VPN tunnel you have to connect to a different VPN router on a diff location. In that way you can get access to the other network

    Hi… You need to forward the port 1024 on this router and then try to access it again.

  • WVC200 DHCP issue (LAN vs Wireless

    Hi All,
    I have a WRT600N router from Linksys and bought a second WVC200 camera.
    While setting up the first camera I had some trouble during set up (now I have the same issue with the second one).
    During installation of the first camera while on the ethernet hookup as instructed the DHCP assigned a specifc IP (192.168.1.107). After succesfully finishing the initial set up I detached power and the ethernet and hooked up power alone again to switch to a wireless connection.
    For whatever reason the router assigned a different IP (192.168.1.115) or so I thought....
    After tinkering for a while I upgraded the Firmware to the last version and the wireless conection suddenly worked (the IP did not change).
    Now to the second camera.
    Did the same thing but somehow after the upgrade the IP still doesn't remain the same (despite DHCP reservation). Still falls back to the 192.168.1.115.
    What I realised after checking the router is that the router doesn't recognize the wlan connection for whatever reason. I do WPA TKIP and it works just fine with the other wireless equipment. I also switched off and on the wireless MAC Filter and added the MAC address of the second camera with the right IP (192.168.1.108) in the DHCP reservation list as a device (same in the wireless filter list). I also checked the MAC address at least 10 times....
    What else can I do to trick the router in finding the camera and assigning the right IP address or is the wireless connection just broken?
    Thx for any help.

    I have the exact same problem! I have a WVC200 since a couple of years. It have served well but for a while ago it stopped to work properly. I didn't do anything about it right away but today I thought I should set it right.
    I did a firmware upgrade, reseted the camera and started all over with the settings. At first I had a TP-cable in it. My router is a Zonet ZSR0140CP that also acts DHCPserver. I have told the DHCP that the MAC-adress of the camera should have a specific IP-adress. In the camera I have set that it should get a IP-adress from DHCP. I have a D-Link DWL-900AP+ that acts wireless AP. It is WEP Encryption with 64 bit HEX. And it doesn't act as a DHCPserver, it's just an AP
    Everything went fine until I broke the electricity to the camera unplugged the TP-cable and plugged the elecricity in again.
    For a long while it just serched an IP-adress and when it got one it was 192.168.1.115! Thats not much right in that ip adress... Wherever did it got that from??
    Please don't tell me to reset everything. I have already done that. And I still have the same problem. I dont think it is the router/switch/AP who is the problem here.

  • Unable to successfully set up my WVC200 to view remotely.

    Hi everyone,
    This is somewhat of a long story so please bare with me. I've had my WVC200 for a number of years and for the last year (at least) its been stored in a bag in my closet. The camera was bought to monitor my grandmother after she fell down the stairs, I set it up originally and had no problems connecting via VLC to view (I'm an OSX user and at the time this was the only way that I know of to view the feed). I'd set up a DynDNS address and forward the camera port (1024) and all was well. My Grandmothers health improved and the camera was taken down.
    Two weeks ago her knees gave out and she's still in hospital recovering. I decided to re-install the camera ready for when she comes home (tomorrow). I'm sat here in my Grandmothers living room after 7 hours of battling with the camera. I give in.. this is my last attempt before it gets thrown out the window.
    I've started from scratch and had to buy a new router, I bought a Netgear DGN1000 as the old Netgear died. I set up the camera with a static IP (192.168.0.200) subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1. I entered the primary and secondary DNS address taken from my routers status screen.
    I've changed the video format to MJPEG and set up a couple of user accounts, changed the default port for the camera to 8181 and ensured the 'Alt port' option is ticked.
    created a new DynDNS (nancam.******.net) and have a old PC upstairs using the DynDNS software to keep the IP upto date (I've tried using the DYNDNS feature on the router but stayed with the PC software as it had worked in the past).
    The Netgear port forwarding options are a little different with the option to create a service (I created WVC200 and opened port 8181) then using another tab names Firewall rules I pointed the WVC200 service to the address of the camera 192.168.0.200.
    internally the camera works fine. I can access it via Safari 192.168.0.200:8181 and via the 'Linksys Cam' app on my iphone4 based on the same info (plus a user and pass). It even works internally via my Dns address with the port both on Safari and 'Linksys Cam'.
    However, the moment I try from another network (my home broadband and 3G on the iPhone) I'm out of luck.
    When I enter my DNS from another network in a browser it prompts for the USR/PASS so I know it's routing through to the camera okay but once I've entered the User and password the server times out and no page is loaded. same with 'Linksys Cam' it just comes back saying no video is being received from the address.
    I've been at it today for several hours starting from scratch with both the router and the camera a number of times. I've tried different ports both wired and wireless connections from the camera and always hit the same wall, it works internally on the same network as the camera but nothing once I've left the house.
    I've come to the conclusion this camera is broken, I'm hoping one of you can tell me I'm wrong. I do like the camera and it was a real asset the first time round. With my Grandmother coming out tomorrow I'm feeling gutted I've been unable to get this working.
    I've followed this guide and read page after page of threads both here and elsewhere. I'm rather IT literate and cant help thinking I'm simply missing something.
    Hoping you guys can help.
    Joe.

    Joseph,
    I can't help but think that the issue is router related. The only thing I might change in the camera is to change the primary DNS to 192.168.0.1, although I admit it is trivial. A few questions:
    Can you access the router setup page remotely if you enable that?
    Have you tried pinging the FQDN to find the IP, then enter that in your browser?
    Have you tried MPEG instead of MJPEG?
    It sounds like you are getting to the camera since it prompts you for the Username/Password. Once you authenticate something is stopping the video stream/webpage from loading properly. I would like to see if you can access the router remotely and start dropping security settings until you can access the camera. (Turn the firewall off if necessary for testing purposes.)
    Please keep us updated.

  • Can't Access WVC200 with the Cisco Video Monitoring System

    I have contacted the help desk but nothing is forthcoming.
    I need help to configure a WVC200 to with the Cisco video monitoring system. In the camera configuration there is no drop down item for a Linksys wvc200 camera only the WVC210 camera. Thus access is not possible. With my other camera WVC 210 there is no problem. Who can help?
    Also the Cisco video monitoring system cannot reduce in size (drag smwller) but only full screen or nothing.. how can I move the monitor to my other video screen.
    Mike

    Steven
    I know it is not a bug and that WVC 200 is not supported anymore but I find that a lame excuse. I only bought this 18 months ago and now Cisco does not support this. If it had been 5 years ago then I could accept.
    Why you can't add a wvc200 template in the Cisco video monitoring systemn I just do not know.
    Even the latest WVC200 fireware is only released this year.

  • WVC200 PTZ Camera

    I'm moving this message from the linksysbycisco forum to myciscocommunity at the recommendation of another poster on the linksysbycisco forum.
    It doesn't look like anyone has posted on the WVC200 PTZ Camera in over a year. I'm hoping there is a resolution to my problem:
    After reading an article on what you need to crack a WPA/TKIP passphrase in under 30 seconds, I made the decision to upgrade my router's encryption to WPA2/AES. When I saw no option for WPA2 on the WVC200, I went online and after opening a cisco.com account to download the updates which is separate from my linksysbycisco.com account that I'm using for this forum???, I downloaded and updated my camera. Still no WPA2. Right now, I pulled it down from my little daughter's room where it was invaluable as a method to find out what went "BAM", and as a deterrent. (i.e. I'm watching you, so don't write on the walls!) Now it is just a piece of junk to me, sitting on my desk. I'm tempted to pull my outdoor Panasonic Camera and put it up in her room, but it's an outdoor camera and it was a real paint to get where I wanted it. I've thought about hard-wiring it, but then, why did I go and buy a wireless camera? Plus I hate crawling around in the attic fishing wire.
    SINCE THIS IS A BASIC SECURITY CONCERN FOR ALL LINKSYS/CISCO CUSTOMERS WHO'S CAMERAS CAN BE TURNED AGAINST THEM BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF STANDARD 802.11G ENCRYPTION SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF WPA2, I WOULD HOPE THAT CISCO/LINKSYS WOULD FIX THIS RIGHT AWAY SO NO ONE GETS MURDERED OR HAS THEIR HOUSE ROBBED BECAUSE CISCO DID NOT PROVIDE BASIC SECURITY UPDATES AND A SOPHISTICATED THIEF HACKED INTO THEIR CAMERAS. (Opps, did I say that in all caps? Hello Computer...)
    Given that I don't expect an immediate solution despite my somewhat ham-handed plea above, is there a NON-CISCO firmware update like they have for many of the linksys routers? Is there a beta update for this camera? As it is, I just have a hunk of plastic and metal on my desk taunting me. Any ideas would be appreciated.  I truly think this is a big security concern for Cisco/Linksys customers and should be addressed ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    Appreciate your concerns and understand what your saying.  No need for the 'hall of shame' :-)
    The WVC210 is a far superior camera to the WVC200 so our thinking was moving customers to the new 210 should not be an issue.  WVC210 supports dual streams, better image sensor/lens, 2-way audio, WIFI certified, etc.   Also the new SVWMS16 (free monitoring application) doesnt support the WVC200, so a good motivation to buy the new one exists there too.
    But I I went and searched for the official Cisco EOS/EOL announcement.   I found it:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6918/ps9692/ps9944/ps9946/end_of_life_notice_c51-560292.html
    In there is a table of key dates.
    End of Phone Support:
    HW
    The last date to phone support as part of the product warranty. After this date, all phone support services for the product are available with additional charges or support fees. In some cases, support may not be available.
    December 25, 2010
    Last Ship Date:
    HW
    The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead time.
    March 25, 2010
    Last Date of Support:
    HW
    The last expected date to receive service and support for the product as entitled by warranty terms and conditions **. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete. Warranty duration is based on product ship dates; refer to warranty terms and conditions for details.
    December 31, 2012
    So the dates are a big more gracious than I initially assumned.   I am happy to provide this too you and hope this helps.

  • WVC200 FTP upload action when full ???

    Hi,
     I am looking into the FTP upload on a WVC200 cam. I have the camera uploading images no problem but I am wondering what happens when the FTP site is full ? Would I have to go in periodically and delete JPG's or does the WVC200 begin to overwrite once there is no more space ?
     I do not want to just upload a single image and keep overwriting it, I want to fill the FTP with as many images as I can.
    I hope I dont need a complex batch file/script to empty the pictures.
     Without filling my webspace to the brim and seeing what happens when its full (alot of mucking about) I thought I would ask the question here.
    Thanks for any help
    Colin

    I'm attempting to do something similar.  I would like my WVC200 to upload to the same directory and overwrite the same image file, so that whenever I visit the page, I will see the most recent capture of the image on my webserver.  Anyone know how to configure the WVC200 camera to FTP the image with the same name every time, instead of naving the image with the default format?

  • Wvc200 and vista 64bit

    My Vista 64 cannot cope with the activex of wvc200, so I cannot see the image through IE. Is there a way around this problem? Is Linksys going to do something about it?
    Thanks,
    Joop

    Thanks, bigdaddyt,
    The problem is not that the ActiveX won't run, but the ActiveX just does not seem to work with Vista 64. So, the arrow keys won't display and the image isn't there. I guess that Vista64 somehow does not interpret the AciveX code correctly. I recall having seen a message somewhere that states the same.
    So I would like to know of either Cisco or someone else have found a workaround for this problem.

  • WVC200 and WRT54GX2

    I am having problems getting the WVC200 wireless camera to work properly with the WRT54GX2 WAP. The WRT54GX2 is currently setup for WAP only, not to be a router. The FW is currently version:1.01.14.
    The WVC200 is type 1.1 (not on webpage for updates) and FW is at 1.10.0.
    I tried it on a different WAP, non-linksys, configured with the same wireless setup and the the camera works ok.
    Currently I am not able to access the 2nd camera that uses the WRT54GX2.
    There are 2 different WRT54GX2 and 2 WVC200's.  The wireless works ok with wireless portables.
    Any suggestions.

    I was told that WRT54GX2 has a new firmware version 1.01.22 that should fix most of your connection issues.....

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

    This was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
    public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
         boolean active = true;
         public void run(){
              ss.setSoTimeout(90);
              while (active){
                   try{
                        serverSocket = ss.accept();
                   catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
                   sleep(91);
              }catch (InterruptedException ie){
              interrupt();
    }
