WVC54GC

Installed camera (WVC54GC) via Linksys Router WRT54GS. Have address all set-up and can view camera footage via Internet Explorer through a wired (WinXP) and wirelessly (Win7) connected computer. Having issues setting up the Linksys Viewer & Recorder that came with the set-up cd that came with camera on any computer. It will install on the wired (WinXP machine) but the software will not find the camera. The camera itself currently running via wireless connection. I have upgraded all firmware's. Any help would be appreciated. One question is on the Viewer & Recorder the tab after you click add camera says LAN. does that mean that I have to have the camera connected via Ehernet Cable?

Connect the camera to the router with the Ethernet cable and then try to search for the camera using the utility. See if that works.
You can also try to download the camera utility from Linksys website and install it on your computer.

  • How do I set up WRT54G router with 4 computers and WVC54GC Wireless Camera

Can anyone please tell me how to set up my Home Network with full security turned on?
I have at least 4 neighbors that show up on my wireless connections list. I have a daughter that loves music and is constantly downloading viruses but only on one wireless connection. The rest of us want to be protected from that computer. My system consists of the following:
    One Linksys WRT54G Router
Two Linksys WMP54G Wireless PCI adapters,
Two Linksys WVC54GC Wireless Cameras  (Possibility four if the 1st two ever work OK.)
Two Linksys LNE100TX PCI Ethernet Cards,
    One HP Ethernet Printer
Three computers were connected by Ethernet cable and one was wireless. I did not change the admin password and I thought everything was working fine for a couple of years until I found that the wireless computer was acting as a “drone” and slowing everything down to a snails pace.  It could even turn itself on.
I changed one of the Ethernet computers to wireless and decided that it might be time to also change the password and increase security.  Setting up security completely shutdown the wireless drone computer. I was OK with that, at least until I can reformat that harddrive.
I then decided while I was at it, I would add a wireless camera (WVC54GC). I set it up using the software and Ethernet cable that came with it. After 6 tries I finally got the camera to work with the cable attached, but it does not work wireless and now none of the other computers connect any more. Is there a limit on how many connections? Should I reset the router and if so, do I disconnect the DSL modem? I’m afraid of the “drone” computer because I found some very bad malware on it. One in particular caused me to replace a hard drive.
I’ve read page after page of network stuff on the Internet and I guess I just don’t know how to ask the right questions. I’m tired of fooling with this.

hi , when u talk about security , are u referring to the "viruses" your daughters PC may be propogating to the rest of the network , or are u referring to external attacks on the router or your wireless PC"s ???
In case u are referring to the "virus" attacks , the best you can do is install a good antivirus software on all PC"s and keep the virus definations updated....
In case u are referring to the wireless security , i'd suggest that your use WPA2 personal. you can select WPA2 by going to the "wireless security" option.
let me know if u need anything more.

  • Wvc54gc cannot change it to the proper subnet...

I have had a wvc54gc for some time but it does not work on our subnet. If I change a computer to the 192.168.1 subnet I can access the camera using both the camera monitoring software and the web interface. However, using the camera monitoring software I try to change the camera settings to the proper subnet IP address and nothing happens. I type using no user and password or I try the default of admin. In both cases the software says successfully saved but nothing changes. If I try to use the web interface using the settings tab it does not accept the default user and password of admin. I have reset the camera several times so I know it is at the factory defaults.

    Try doing a Soft Reset:
Use a paper clip and hold the reset button IN for 30 secs or so and then release the RESET button and disconnect the power cable from the camera.....wait for 60 secs or so and then try logging into the camera set up page using Username - blank / admin....Password - admin....
Or you may even try doing a Hard Reset:
Use a paper clio and start holding the reset button IN....after initial 20 secs disconnect the power cable from the camera and keep holding In the reset button....then again after 20 more secs re-connect the power cable back in to the camera and continue holding IN the reset button....again after 20 more secs finally release the reset Button....disconnect the power cable from the camera....wait for 60 secs or so and then try logging into the camera set up page using Username - blank / admin....Password - admin....
With the procedure of HARD RESET....you are actually holding in the RESET button IN for 60 secs if i am correct...
    Keep posting....

  • WVC54GC UK Download firmware 1.21 is in German. Help!

    Hi,
I just bought some software to view my camera on my phone and although my WVC200 cameras work fine, the WVC54GC reports incompatible so I went to this Linksys website and downloaded the latest firmware available to the UK which is 1.21
Firmware loaded fine but I now find that language is set to German!
There seems to be no way to set the language in the device so I used the Live Chat facility and explained my problem to "Princess" who was totally unable to help but gave me a support phone number to call at 10 pence per minute.
I called the number and was told that 1.21 was the latest version available to me and that if I reset the camera the language should reset to English.
Of course it didn't, and examining the UK downloaded firmware file I see that the filename contains a nice big "DE" which means it is German.
This is supposed to be Cisco for goodness sakes. And people ask me why I sopped selling Cisco equipment 2 years ago!
Can anyone help me with this?  I'd love a link to an English version of 1.25 but all I can find by Googling downloads is 1.26 (available only to the USA for some reason) which apparently would mean I have to change my PC software and I don't hold up much hope for that. It would probably end up being in Swahili or Chinese or something else I cannot read!
Version 1.25 would mean I can at least burn the firmware and use it with my existing viewer software but I can't find anywhere to download it. I can't revert to my previous version because I don't have the .bin file and anyway the support person told me that you cannot load earlier versions of the firmware. Great!
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    David

I just checked the UK page and found out that there are two versions for firmware 1.21. The one below (1.83 MB) is the English version of the firmware and the one on top is German. Try if you can upgrade the firmware using the English version (the 1.83 MB) and see if that will work for you. I checked the release notes for the 1.83 MB and that is how I found it out.

  • WVC54GC works fine but cannot see the movie attached to the email

I have VISTA and WMP (windows media player) 11.0
My WVC54GC works fine, I can see the real-time video in IE, etc. BUT when I try to read the video attached in an alert email, I just see nothing in Windows Media Player. I think the video is playing for few secs but I see nothing in WMP.
    Any clue?
note: I could also forward you one of these alert email (you could check whether you can play the attachment).

I found the answer in the forum, by changing the file extension from .asf into .asx, it works.
Why is the video sent with a .asf?
Anyway, apart from this very small issue, I did not face any problem with this product!

  • WVC54GC and SKYPE

Can anyone tell me how I can get my WVC54GC wireless camera to work with skype ??
    thank you !!

hi , i'm afraid that these 2 devices will not work with each other....if indeed you want to connect a camera to the skype....you need a "webcam" ...a camera that connects using a USB port of the PC.

  • WVC54GC Viewer/recorder

I upgraded the WVc54GC to the latest firmware 1.26 from 1.19, the Viewer worked fine on previous firmware but after the upgrade it can't detect the camera via Ethernet or wireless. Tried to downgrade the firmware but got an error.

    updated 4 Camera's to firmware 1.26
None are seen by the viewer, when I do a search.
I have the old dat file, and reloded it, and they come up.
But when I do a search, they are not there. I ping the ip addresses, and they all reply. I put the ip address in IE and it shows up.
Can I go back to the old Firmware? The viewer no longer see's the camera. Also I can edit the viewer dat file. Who have the parameters, as I can add my new camera that way if I can get the field descriptions.

  • WVC54GC and the Wireless B BEFW11S4

I have a new WVC54GC camera that I hooked up to my Wireless B router. I ran the whole setup disc and I can see my camera on my computer. The thing is I cannot access it through the internet from work. I called LInksys and since the router is so old they would not help me with Port Forwarding. How do I open the port that I can see my camera from another internet connection (work)?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    1. Connect your Camera to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
    2. Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.115.
Use admin for both Username & Password in lower case...It should open your Camera set-up...
    3. Once you get to the set-up page you can follow this link to change the Camera Settings...While changing the Camera settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(router and camera)...Also make sure to change the camera's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your router's address...ex. Camera's IP Address : 192.168.1.115(assuming your router's default address is 192.168.1.1), Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1.
    4. After configuring the Camera you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Camera from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Camera and Router)...Your camera should be configured...
In case if you don't get the Camera set-up just leave it connected to your computer and reset it for 30 seconds...

  • WVC54GC - Can't do anything behind #5 of Setup

Hey, I'm new, and while I've seen similar topics to my problem, I can't seem to post a reply to them...so here's my problem.
I just got a WVC54GC Camera from a friend who bought it for me, and I followed the instructions on the setup wizard (plugging in the ethernet cable to the router, then to the camera; plugging in the power cord then into the camera), but once it gets to #5 of the setup wizard, where it's supposed to find the camera on my network, it can't seem to find it.  I try clicking "Search Again" but it still can't find it.  I also made sure all the cables were plugged in and everything, and they are.
It also mentions in the #5 part of the setup that if I want to  change any of the settings (camera name, IP address, etc etc.), to click Next.  When I click Next, nothing happens.  I can click "Back" and it'll go back to the previous steps...but I can't seem to click beyond  #5, and it doesn't seem to do anything else...my computer can't see it or anything.  In fact, the only thing the camera is doing right now, is that it has it's little blue light on while it's plugged into the wall, as well as into my router.  Ooo, pretty blue light!
If it helps, I have Windows 2000 Pro (I checked the requirements for the camera and it said it was compatable with Win2000, which is why I wanted to go with it in the first place), and I'm using a Linksys wireless router too.
I'm just completely baffled and frustrated, I honestly don't know what to do...other than getting the idea of returning the camera and getting a refund for my friend or something.

    1. Connect your Camera to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network And Dial-up Connection - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...

  • Port fowarding for linksys WVC54GC  Wireless G internet video camera

    Hi
I have recentlty installed a linksys WVC54GC Wireless G internet video camera. My plan to is to view the video from the internet. As part of the setup, I am using SOLOLINK DDNS service. The set up requires me to do port forwarding for the camera which is part my home network ..
I do not know the values to input for
    public port
    private port
with in the port mapping environment in the Air port express base stations.
Linksys suggests I open port 1024.. Can any one help me in the setup ..

    Thanks,
I have done the changes, It does answer the specific issues i had asked. However I am still unable to view my camera from the the internet.. I did some reading up and I think the problem is due to the IP address..
My AEBS assigns IP which looks like 10.0.1.1 .... In order avoid changing IP, i had assigned the camera with the static IP 10.0.1.252. This is outside the AEBS dynamic range. Hence when i access from internet, i get a message that server is not responding. it looks like this is not a valid IP from an external internet world... I have looked at the AEBS settings and found the actual IP in ther internet tab.. Should I assign the camera with the actual IP ??.. However that is DHCP, so I am a little lost ....

  • WiFi webcam WVC54GC: Motion triggered email via unencrypted SMTP

I've been trying to get the WVC54GC to send an image by email when it detects motion.  Currently, it just generates the following errors when it detects motion:
       01/01/1990 04:23:57 SMTP:
Error during the connection or timeout.
       01/01/1990 04:23:53 Alert: Triggered.
The gateway and DNS are properly set.  I did some testing of the SMTP connection to the server using Outlook.  I found that the ISP's email server only accepts SSL/TSL. Not being a specialist in this area, I'm not sure if encryption applies only to the login data or the whole message, but it doesn't seem to me to matter -- the webcam has no switch to activate SSL/TSL regardless.
I searched the web for SMTP settings for the big three providers of free email (Google, Yahoo, Hotmail) and they all require SSL/TSL for SMTP.  How have other WVC54GC users handled this requirement?

Looks like you might’ve hit the nail on the head with the SSL/TLS requirement. Doesn’t seem to be any option in the camera’s setup page for setting that. What firmware are you running on your camera? Is it the latest? There may be an option for that in the newer firmware

  • WVC54GC with Fritz!Box 7050

    Hi,
after a few beginner problems i got my WVC54GC (version 1.1 - firmware 1.26) running but only on LAN. I also read a german message and cut the power supply for a moment to allow the cam to connect to the WLAN (WEP correct configured) but nothing happens. I can't see it on the router monitor nor can i see any picture on the media player.
    Any idea what's going wrong?
Thanks in advance for any hint

What is the model number of your wireless router?
Make sure that the wireless settings on the router and WVC54GC are matching.
Follow this link to connect the camera to the wireless network.

  • WVC54GC firmware

    Hi
I have just brought a WVC54GC camera and was checking up on firmware updates.
First I looked on the US site and there was an update but on checking the UK - where I live - there was no update for V1.10.
Question is, can I use a US firmware update to update my UK cameras firmware?
    Regards ...  Colin

The real question was why are there differencies between the US and UK web sites, the US one offering a upgrade and the UK one does not; so is it safe to use the US update on a camera that is being used in the UK.
I am thinking of any radio frequency compliant problems in particular.
