WVC54GCA - how to password protect view video

Hi all,
I have the Linksys WVC54GCA wireless internet camera.
I've successfully setup port forwarding so that I can view the camera video over the public internet.
However, while there is password protection for the camera setup, there seems to be no password protection for the video itself? It seems that anyone can view my video stream if they know my ip address and port number? Is there anyway to password protect the video?
Tks

The scenario that you explained that you want to provide password so that who so ever try to video stream should ask for the password... So in that case you need to add a new users and provide User Name and User Password the camera setup page....
That means you need to create a list of users to whom you want to authenticate with User Name and User Password... So those people will be able to video stream those who are available in that user list.... Rest would not be able to see any videos...

By default, Disk Utility has the "Add to Keychain" setting checked on.
You have to make a new image and turn this funtion off if you want to make sure the video stays private on your computer.
If you send the video to another computer, the user will have to enter the password.

And the Numbers User Guide, supplied with iWork '08, make no mention of password protection, which was introduced in Numbers '09.
Looks like the best option is Wayne's second suggestion—open via File > Print > PDF > Open in Preview, then Save the resulting PDF document with encryption turned on.
An alternate, if you want the recipients to receive a copy of the Numbers '08 file, and to be able to edit that file, you could enclose it in a secure disk image file.
    The basic procedure is to:
Use Disk Utility to create a new, blank, sparse disk image, assign a password and save.
Double-click the .dmg file (and enter the password when requested) to mount the disk image on your desktop, then Save a copy of your file to the (open) disk image.
When done, eject the image, and upload the (encrypted) .dmg file to the website.
Detailed instructions may be found in Disk Utility's Help files.
Launch DU (found in the Utilities folder in Applications), click the Help menu and choose Disk Utility help.
Go to the index, scroll to and click Security, then click a title similar to "Protecting confidential documents in a secure disk image." (a search on 'confidential' should also take you to a list containing that title.)
My version of DU is old enough that sparse images hadn't been introduced, or I'd post a copy of the article here.

  • How to password protect sensitive info

    Hey all,
I have an Imac that is shared by the family. Occasionally, the kids move or delete things that I need for work.
Can anyone help me with how to password protect specific folders so that the Imac is open to use but some files can not be accessed without a password.
I would settle for a "hiding" program so they can't delete what they can't see.
    Thanks

You can use Disk Utility to create encrypted disk images of your secret folders (menu File > New), also encrypted sparse images that can grow as you add more data to it.
But the different User Accounts for each member of family is by far the most friendly and natural solution IMO.
For your common family email, you know you could just create yet another User Account and name it "Family Account" or whatever, and it would be the one which hosts family mail?

I've made a password protected numbers file on iMac and saved it to itunes.
When i open this file on my iphone for the first time i have to type in the password. But afterwards it's not protected anymore and i can open the file without the password!
How can i secure my files?

There is at this time no way to put a password in the Numbers app nor on a Numbers spreadsheet, and as Michael said it's not something a third-party developer could add. You can suggest that Apple add a password feature via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
or you can look for a third-party spreadsheet app that does allow password-protecting a sheet. Documents To Go from Dataviz is a commonly-recommended app that supports spreadsheets, but I don't know if they support passwording.

I'm not sure what you are looking for, Joe. The passcode lock code is also required when restarting the phone after turning it off, and when rebooting after a reset procedure.

    Hey there,
One way to do this, is to encrypt the file as a Disk Image using Disk Utility. If you go that route, make sure that the file is set to read and write.
Another way is to add the Dashboard widget DashCrypt, which can be reached via the link below. Lastly, there are several third party applications that allow you to accomplish this task such as Crypt, which also has a link below. Hope this helps.

  • How to password protect individual folders?

I am trying to protect some files for work on my mac using a password, but haven't been able to find a support page on how to do so. I can change permissions, but I do not want to make myself enter a password every time I logon to the computer. I would like to just password protect a specific folder (or files if I cannot protect a folder).
I am a new mac user...will appreciate any advice!
    Thanks

Is the only solution to this to not save
the password to my keychain and just remember it?
There are some other options you might consider for using keychains...
    1. You can set your "login" keychain to automatically lock itself after a certain number of minutes. Launch "Keychain Access" in your Utilities folder. Select "login" in the keychain list then select "Edit -> Change settings for Keychain 'login'...". After the specified number of minutes the keychain will lock and anyone who accesses something on your system (that tries to get a password from the keychain) will have to enter your account password to unlock it.
    2. You can give your "login" keychain a password that is different from your account password. As above, launch Keychain Access, select the login keychain and go to "Edit -> Change Password for Keychain 'login'...". Once you've done this your login keychain will not automatically unlock when you first login to your account. You will have to enter the new keychain password before any apps can read or write data to it. You can use this in combination with #1 above to have the keychain automatically re-lock itself after a certain number of minutes if you want. Note that once you've done this it has the side-effect that if you ever change your account password it will not change the login keychain's password... the login keychain will retain it's own separate password.
    3. You can create one or more additional keychains that have their own passwords. This is what I do for storing various pieces of secure information - I have one for personal stuff and another for work related stuff. Similar to #2 above these additional keychains will not be automatically unlocked when you login to your account. In Keychain Access choose "File -> New Keychain...". Give the new keychain a password that's different from your account password. In this case other applications that are "keychain aware" (such as the disk image mounter) will not use the additional keychain(s) by default. But you can manually unlock these keychains and then view the secure info you've stored there. So instead of just storing password "hints" like S.U. suggested you can store the actual passwords inside these keychains without worrying about someone else getting to the information unless they know that password to unlock that particular keychain. Also note that if an application does store a password item in your "login" keychain you can easily move it to one of these additional keychains by simply dragging and dropping the item from the "login" keychain to your other keychain within Keychain Access.
Keychains can be very versatile but there's not too much documentation or tips available for using them.

  • How to Password Protect a Directory so all Files are Protected?

    Hello CFers and Happy Holidays,
I am moving a web site over from a Linux server over to a
Windows 2000 server. The site was currently password protected via
the oh so familiar .htaccess method on the Linux server. Now that
the site is on IIS on Windows, the .htaccess files don't work.
I have created a MSSQL database with a users table that
contains all of the username and passwords that are allowed to
    access the site.
Normally I would just log users in by querying the database,
setting a session variable, and then using application.cfm to check
to make sure the users is logged in. However, in this particualr
site, most of the files are made up of .htm files which do not get
processed by the ColdFusion application.cfm tag.
Several posts indicated that I would need to disable
anonymous access within IIS and then create the individual user
accounts within Administrative Tools > Computer Management >
Users and Groups. However, in this case, I don't want to create
thousands of new users within windows.
Is there a way for me to password protect all files within a
directory while still using the accounts set up in my MSSQL
    database for authentication?
    Thanks,
    David Levin

How many users did you have in your .htaccess config? That's
    how many
you'd need to set up in IIS. With IIS & file system
    permissions you're
effecting the same thing you would with Apache's .htaccess
    authorisation.
Except using GUI tools rather than text files; it's the same
    principle,
    though.
Or... you could just install Apache and use that instead,
    sticking with the
    approach you're used to.

  • How to password protect an external hard drive

I just bought an external HD to use with Time Machine and for some extra space, but I would really like to password protect it. Since it has all my files on it, it is just as important as password protecting my computer. I'm thinking I probably have to use Disk Utilities, but I'm not quite sure how to do it.
Please be as detailed as possible, because I don't delve into Utilities very often.
    Thanks
P.S. My HD is a Toshiba Portable Hard Drive, if it makes any difference. It advertises on the back that it can be password protected, but I have been unable of finding any way to do so.

    Hello FidgetingFinhc,
The best protection for your data is to maintain the data as a encrypted disk image. Creating a "sparse image" will require a password to open:
I would follow the instructions provided by the Apple Support document below on how to make this happen.

    Hope this helps.
