WVC80N Internet Home Monitoring Camera - Host Name

I don't seem to have a host name for my WVC80N.  I'm running dd-wrt on a Linksys wrt54g v5 and it shows * for a host name.  Why is that?  I would think the host name would = the "camera name".
Otherwise, everything works perfectly.  I'm using 192.168.1.244:1024 for an address.
Thanks

It is not necessary to give Host name on WVC80N .
You can assign the Camera name under settings .

    Solved!

    Hi Jam.Hall
I am somewhat hesitant to say you will be able to use this camera with LabVIEW.  It all depends on what functionality you are wanting to utilise on the camera, and how much video you want to analyze.
     - If you want to use the wireless functionality, I am concered that the on board web server will compress and embed the video stream.  I do not beleive this is something we can access in LabVIEW.
     - If you wish to use the ethernet connection, if it is Gigabit Ethernet, then you should be able to use our IMAQ for GigE driver to bring in the feed, but looking at the specs for the camera, I'm not sure that this is an option.
     - My other suggestion might be to utilise the record video stream function that the camera has.  Depending on the format of the video file, you may be able to read in the recorded file and analyse it in LabVIEW.
If you could explain the purpose of your application, and what you would like to achieve with the system, there may be more suitable products that you can use.

  • Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera Utility doesn't have view screen

I'm having problems viewing my wvc54gca in the utility program. I can view it over the web, and I can watch everything in playback. However, the video monitor screen is not only blank/black, it shows whatever is in the window behind it. Meaning if I click over to my camera utility right now I will see this screen I am typing on right now through the area that should be my camera view. Everything else is working correctly as far as I can tell. I've downloaded the firmware. I've searched the forums. Not sure what I'm missing.

When you open the Camear utility, click on the setup button..It will search for your camear, select it and click on "add" and click on save...Now,close the utility and re-open it..

  • WVC80-N Cisco/Linksys Home Monitoring Camera - recording schedule

Hi there.  I have 2 questions regarding the camera.  First, in the web interface, there is a menu tab for setting the recording schedule.  You can select "start recording now" or  "define recording schedule".  The only problem is that it gives you a starting time and date and an ending time and date.  Is there a way to select a schedule such as 8:00-10:00AM every week day?  It seems to only allow me 1 range.
I see on the monitoring software there is a client that allows you to set a schedule like that.  However, I want to stay away from a client if possible. (one more thing to flake out).
Also, is there a good viewer/organizer for the video files created?  It looks like if I just use the camera web interface, it just dumps the files into a directory on the NAS drive that I choose.  Does the pc client software import these files?
    Thanks
    Benjamin

You could consider using motion detection because it has more range compare to selecting the recording option; but then again the videos will only be sent either through email or ftp server. As for your 2nd query, there is actually no software (from linksys) that could organize or import the videos saved from this camera. Perhaps, there is a third party software will be able to do that.

  • Home monitoring camera video storage time frame.

    Hi,
I want to install an outside camera. At night there is some street light.
Does anyone know how long verizon stores the camera's video on their servers? Is the storage cost part of the $10 per month?
Also for outside, how is the nightime situation with the cameras. Is it better to do snapshot or streaming?
    Thanks!

It's my understanding that the videos are stored on the Gateway device and not at Verizon.
The outdoor cameras have their own light source night time operations.
Here are examples of one of my outdoor cameras in day & night modes as viewed on my iPhone. The camera is mounted on my shed which is about 40 to 50 feet from the left corner of the house. Snapshot or streaming is about the same.

What did you expect? You must provide a valid SMTP host name, NOT "hostname". You see the difference right?
Try with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) SMTP host name.
It should be something like: stmp.somename.com.
That's the one you must set in your email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, Lotus Notes, whatever) to send your emails.

  • Technical Monitoring for Logical host name

    Dear experts,
We are in mid of technical monitoring finalisation.
one of the interesting thing which i found with respect to the logical host name, we installed SMD agent on Virtual host name and our system is not with HA environment and no clustering. It is just a system with single instance.
During the managed system configuration all the physical and logical host name reported by SMD autodiscovery, all went fine. But in Technical monitoring shows only virtual host name with the updated alerts , and logical host name only shows grey alert.
    virtual host shows alert here
    logical host name shows grey
how can i get alert displayed for logical host name too? do i need to do some settings at the OS level , could you guide us?
    Thanks

  • Chagne Home Directory Server's Host Name

I've tried to change the server's host name, and re-shared the home directory location so that in Workgroup manager, it will show up as a choice for the home folder location.
After I selected the new location (with all the folders still in the same place), and tried loggin in as any user, it gives me an error saying there's a problem logging in.
    What should I do?
(if I change everything back, everything works fine, but I'll need to change the host name eventually)

Found a solution to avoid changing the Directory Server's name.

  • Connecting DVR to Airport Extreme for remote viewing of my home 16 camera system. I have tried for 2 days and still stuck. I have secured a dyndns account and have had no luck for 2 days. A detailed list for an amateur would be much appreciated.

I have been trying for 2 days to connect my home camera dvr to the internet through my Airport Extreme. I have read several previous posts on this topic and have not been able to get this completed. I secured a Dyndns account and registered a host domain. I am not clear on which ip address to use and really which is which. Seems like the ip address for the router is different from the ip address that showed up when I secured my dyndns host name. I used the one that was listed on the signup that staed " your ip address is". I have read up on port forwarding and watched UTube and still no luck. Can someone walk me through a steo by step process on how to get this completed? I want to be able to watch my cameras from my iphone, ipad, macbook pro and the internet. I do have a manual that came with the DVR but it seems everything is setup for Windows and a different router, seems like the AE router had different settings. I can usually figure these things out eventually but I am really stuck this time. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Have you had any luck? I am currently attempting to do the same thing and running into similar issues.

  • SSO installation host name problem

    Hi all,
I am trying to install OCS single box on my server. I have successfully installed oracle storage and infra. When it came to SSO it asks for valid host name and port number. My system is in workgroup. I am trying to give my server name but it is not accepting. Is it compulsory that my system need to be in a valid domain.
    Pls guide me

    Create mailsystem
Follow the installation instructions, and run umconfig (located under $ORACLE_HOME/oes/bin on Linux) to configure your mailserver. Make sure you remember the usernames/passords, as you will need them later on. This will start a Java program, and you should make sure you run both menu selections, starting with the MailStore database configuration, and then run the Middle Tier configuration.
    Create user login
Now you want to create users in OID (Oracle Internet Directory) by accessing the URL http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/oiddas and log in as orcladmin. Create accounts and make sure you grant rights as Collaboration suite users.
    Create mail account
Create an E-mail account for these users from this URL: <midtier hostname>:<port>/um/admin/UMAdminLogin.uix and log in as orcladmin. You will now be presentet with another login, where you should log in as UMADMIN. Create your mail users, and create a mail super-user that may be used to create and administer mail later on.
    Create calendar account
To create a calendar account for your users, go to <midtier hostname>:<port>/ocad-bin/ocad.cgi?object=nodeadm
To log in as calendar administrator, leave the username empty, and enter the calendar SYSOP password. Choose Calendar management, push the "Go"button to list all users, and push the "Provision Calendar service to user" button.
    Create a Files domain
From <midtier hostname>:<port>/files/app/AdminLogin, create a files domain (you only do this once). Files accounts are automatically provisioned for all users registered in OID. The Files superuser you created during installation, must also have an OID account. Log in to files as this user to restore deleted files from backup, administer users and control quotas.
Enjoy your excellent new mail and files server :-)

  • Change DNS host name automatically when one device is down

    Hi all
I am first copying below the question which I have posted in a thread related to DNS few days back .
You cannot vote on your own post
    Hi
our network team has setup Bluecoat proxy server in our main office and DR site . We have configured GPO to populate the details of proxy server hostname in the proxy setting  eg : Proxy server .  IP1 is the IP address for the device in Head office
and IP2 is the IP address assigned for device in DR site. currently  we have given a DNS entry as
    Proxyserver - IP1.
So DNS resolves the IP address of device in Head office and authentication and internet access works.
But we want to use the DR device  to be used automatically   (only )when head office device is not reachable. But how to configure the settings for DNS I am not sure.
I don't want to use round robin as it will send the traffic to both head office and DR in a load balancing fashion .
for this request I had received an advice to use a script to monitor the first device continuously and if not reachable  then change the Hostname in DNS to that of second device  .
Let me know if anyone can help me on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Midhin

    Hi Midhin,
Agree with Jrv, I also recommend you can consult proxy vendor for a better solution.
In addition, if you still want to update host name in DNS via Powershell, please refer to the script to update A record in DNS:
    $Zone = "dns zone"
    $oldobj = Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName $Zone -RRType "A" -Name "hostname"
    $newobj = Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName $Zone -RRType "A" -Name "hostname"
    $NewObj.RecordData.IPv4Address = "newipaddress"
    Set-DnsServerResourceRecord -NewInputObject $NewObj -OldInputObject $OldObj -ZoneName $Zone
If there is anything else regarding the powershell script issue, please feel free to post back.
    Best Regards,

  • Change my Host Name in Solais 10

Please, when I run smc(Solaris Management Console) I can see in System Information, that my Host Name is unknown. How can I change that?

It's strange that you don't have etc/nodename, it must be in etc/. May be you'll try to create it? Besides, I think this article can help you:
Setting Up a Solaris DHCP Client
One of the problems that can arise when trying to use a Solaris box as a DHCP
client is that by default, the server is expected to supply a hostname, in
addition to all the other stuff (like IP address, DNS servers, etc.). Most cable
modems and home routers don't supply a (usable) hostname, so it gets set to "unknown".
This page describes how to get around that. (Where this page says "cable modem",
    "DSL modem" can be substituted.)
This page assumes that le0 is the interface you using for your DHCP connection.
Substitute hme0 or whatever interface you're actually using in the examples
    below.
    Setting up DHCP
There are two ways of using DHCP:
    DHCP has limited control
    DHCP has full control
The first case may be where you want to use your own /etc/resolv.conf and so on,
    with a minimum of hassle.
The second case would be the normal situation, especially if your cable modem
provider has a habit of changing DNS name server IP addresses on you (like mine
does!), so I'll concentrate on that here. I have a script to automate the first
method, should you want to use it. You'll need to change the DEFAULT_ADDR and
    INTERFACE variables as required.
The first thing to do is to create an empty /etc/hostname.le0, like this:
/etc/hostname.le0Creating this file ensures that the interface gets plumbed, ready for the DHCP
    software to do its stuff.
Next, you create /etc/dhcp.le0. This file can be empty if you want to accept the
defaults, but may also contain one or both of these directives:
    wait time, and
    primary
By default, ifconfig will wait 30 seconds for the DHCP server to respond (after
which time, the boot will continue, while the interface gets configured in the
background). Specifying the wait directive tells ifconfig not to return until
the DHCP has responded. time can be set to the special value of forever, with
obvious meaning. I use a time value of 300, which seems to be long enough for my
    cable provider.
The primary directive indicates to ifconfig that the current interface is the
primary one, if you have more than one interface under DHCP control. If you only
have one interface under DHCP control, then it is automatically the primary one,
so primary is redundant (although it's permissible).
With these files in place, subsequent reboots will place le0 under DHCP control:
    you're ready to go!
    Unknown hostname
Actually, there's one snag: most (if not all) cable modem DHCP servers don't
provide you with a hostname (even if they did, odds are it won't be one you want
anyway!). This wouldn't be a problem, except that the boot scripts (/etc/init.d/rootusr
in particular) try to be clever, and set your hostname to "unknown" in this case,
which is not at all useful!
The trick is to change your hostname back to the right one, preferably without
changing any of the supplied start-up scripts, which are liable to be being
stomped on when you upgrade or install a patch. You've also got to do it early
enough in the boot process, so that rpcbind, sendmail and friends don't get
confused by using the wrong hostname. To solve this problem, put this little
script in to /etc/init.d/set_hostname, with a symbolic link to it from /etc/rc2.d/S70set_hostname.
Starting with Solaris 10, the preceding paragraph can be ignored. Instead, just
make sure that the hostname you want to use is in /etc/nodename; the contents of
that file will then be used to set the hostname. (Note that it is essential that
the hostname you put into /etc/nodename is terminated with a carriage return.
Breakage will happen if this is not the case.) Also, from Solaris 8 it is
possible to tell the DHCP software not to request a hostname from the DHCP
server. To do this, remove the token 12 from the PARAM_REQUEST_LIST line in /etc/default/dhcpagent.
(/etc/default/dhcpagent describes what the default tokens are; 12 is the
hostname, 3 is the default router, 6 is the DNS server, and so on.)
With these modifications in place, reboot, and you'll be using your cable modem
    in no time!
If you've got more than one machine, and you want to access the Internet from
all of them, you might also find my Solaris NAT page useful.
If this page has been useful to you, please consider buying a copy of my book,
    Solaris Systems Programming.

During the Solaris installation process, you told it what the hostname was going to be and that you wanted that environment to exist with a dynamic IP address instead of a specific address that you desired.
When Solaris boots it broadcasts that hostname and waits for a DHCP server to be quasi-intelligent enough to award an IP address based upon a pre-configured list inside that DHCP server.   Hostname ABC would always get IP address 123 on subnet rst, hostname DEF would always get IP address 456 on subnet xyz, and so on and so on.
That's the fundamental process for proper (and thus secure) DHCP.
All your other environments (Windows, Debian, Ubuntu) are what might be thought of as "hacked for convenience" to get around that sort of network configuration.  They take the lazy way to exist.  That partial networking setup is good enough for a home network but would be miserably insecure in a corporate environment.  Those choices are operating environments that are nice for end-user desktops but aren't Enterprise Class.
    My suggestion?
Review the IP address range in your Netgear router's setup.
It is likely something like 192.169.0.1 through 192.168.0.50 and can be customized.
You probably don't have 50 devices on your network and probably will never have 50 simultaneous devices on your network.
... just do a reconfigure reboot and set your Solaris to use a static IP of 192.068.0.45
Then reboot and I predict your issue that prompted this forum thread will be gone.
That's how I've done it at home for many years, even when installing Solaris to bare metal (no virtualization).
