Wwpn-derivation-virtualized-port
So I am digging the Cisco C210 boxes. I have several rolled out so far.
Just got a B series. I feel like I am back in catholic school being scolded! This thing hates me! :-)
I have gone through a firefly lab book to get familiar with the configuration. I "belive" I have everything setup correctly...
I created a service profile so I could in a couple of clicks apply it to all four of my servers. When I go to apply it I get
descr="Service profile Server1 configuration failed due to wwpn-derivation-virtualized-port"
Good ole google was not able to help me with this one. I'm old school Call Manager and Contact Center person. This virtualization stuff is very new. Zero experiance with SAN.
Is anyone able to tell me what I may have missed from the error?
Thanks in Advance!
Del
Del,
What WWPN pool is configured for the HBAs in your service profile ?
We can expect this failure message when we are using " Hardware default " option and the blade is installed with Cisco M81KR adapter ( it does not have burnt in WWPN address )
If it is the case, then try creating a WWPN pool and configure the service profile / HBAs to use WWPN from the pool.

Does Solaris 10 support cisco Virtual Port Channels over IP?
Does anyone know if Solaris 10 support cisco Virtual Port Channels open IP?
Hi user11114413,
The issue you are seeing actually has little to do with VIP, and more to do with there being multiple IP addresses for us to choose from on your box. For such multi-IP boxes, you'll want to tell us the IP to use, and in your case you want to tell as a VIP. This can be done either by editing your operational configuration file, and including an <address> element within the <unicast-listener> element, or via the tangosol.coherence.localhost system property. For example:
<unicast-listener>
<well-known-addresses>
<socket-address id="1">
<address>1.2.3.260</address> <!--virtual ip -->
<port>8088</port>
</socket-address>
</well-known-addresses>
<address>1.2.3.260</address> <!--virtual ip -->
<port>8088</port>
</unicast-listener>or
java ... -Dtangosol.coherence.localhost=1.2.3.260If you are using the same operational configuration on all nodes in your cluster then the system property approach is likely preferable, and would only be necessary on the two machines sharing the VIP.
As for using VIP or an extended WKA list, the choice is yours, either will work. If you do go the VIP route, it would obviously be a very bad idea to simultaneously use the same VIP and port at the same time from the two machines.
thanks,
Mark

I want to use GPSGate in Win7 but have one of the virtual ports assigned to XPMode Virtual Machine for use in an applicaiton there. How do I do this? When I try to do so the settings give me an error "The configuration value
could not be set. The value is out of range.". How can I do this so that I can use the virtual ports in both Win 7 and simultaneously in the Virtual MachineI am bumping this thread by replying, as I am having the same problem. To be clear, the Virtual PC Tools/Settings dialog is showing a number of choices for physical COM ports to assign to the virtual COM1 port. When I select COM6, which is one of the choices
listed BY VIRTUAL PC, I get the "value out of range" error.
The answer about "same port cannot be used by both simultaneously" is not helpful, as this info is already readily available in the help. What we users really need to know is this:
1) how can we tell if a COM port is "captured" as the documentation puts it? A pointer to a specific system tool would be nice.
2) is this in fact just a bug? The old, dumb way of thinking of COM ports as only being COM 1 thru COM4 ? It could well be the developer who wrote this bit of the code doesn't know about the "\\.\comX" naming convention for com ports above 4. THIS IS IN
FACT what I suspect.
I want to say that Mr. Steve Jain, elsewhere, replied to a similar thread and said something to the effect that "COM ports above ports 1 and 2 are generally unreliable" He is an MVP with 12K posts under his belt, but I just don't know where he gets that
idea. To me, that kind of answer isn't helpful, nor accurate, so please don't point me in that direction.
Is there some way to report a bug? Is this product still receiving bug fix support? I routinely open 16 serial ports at one time. I have numerous USB solutions which will allow this, including a 4-port USB-to-Serial bridge and individual USB-serial dongles
from IOGear. These products work fine with my own application software, written in Tcl. I can open COM1 thru COM16, but I need to use the NT naming convention "\\.\COMxx" for any ports above 4.

Cisco Nexus 9300 Virtual Port Channel Support
Hi,
As I am new to Nexus 9300 and I was wondering if the switch may support virtual port channel (VPC)? I was wondering if there may be any feature matrix to compare it against the 9500/N7Ks/N5Ks
Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks.Hi Marvin,
Appreciate for the information. I believe the customer is in the process of moving to ACI gradually however the setup I will be making will be classical ethernet setup which is similar to VSS setup whereby the N9300 would make use of VPC to connect to catalyst 3K/6K switch. I have illustrated it below for reference:
Catalyst 6500 Non-VSS (Core)
|----(VPC)---|
N9300 ----- N9300 (Aggregation/Distribution)
|----(VPC)---|
Catalyst 3K switch (Access)
Appreciate for clarrifiying the support for VPC for Nexus 9300 as I made a search on feature navigator for "Virtual Port Channel" which only listed the N7K platforms.
Thanks. -
Are QOS BUM Policer BUM Parameters applicable for virtual ports or only for non virtual ports?
Are QOS BUM Policer BUM Parameters applicable for virtual ports or only for non virtual ports?
Just FYI.
I probably overestimated RHEL/OEL-5.3 capability to "compete in Music Showbiz" as a digital studio workstation OS. Seems that "very old" alsa kernel drivers (1.0.17), compiled with actual kernel, don't like Audigy cards when it comes to MIDI interface, despite the fact the audio is perfect. Although I am still not sure nothing could be done as a workaround in order to get MIDI worked on OEL-5.3, the fact is that SB Audigy MIDI works like Roland Synth, sounding amazingly, if the kernel 2.6.18-128.1.1.0.1.el5 is recompiled with the actual alsa driver version 1.0.19 (modules snd-emu10k1, snd-emu10k1-synth, etc).
It's interesting that overall device and loaded-modules schema's picture is the same as with old alsa (original kernel). That's why I still think something could be done, at least as workaround, to get MIDI worked with original OEL-5.3 kernel.

STP Logical Interfaces, virtual ports
As you probably know one have to take in account the max available numbers of virtual ports and logical interfaces for Spanning Tree when designing a switched network based on catalyst 6500's. Does somebody know if you also have these parameters if you're designing a network based on 4500's or 3750 stacks? And where to find it on the Cisco site
RgrdsMy issue deals with Spanning Tree Protocol or better the scalability of STP. see the following document:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/122sx/ol_4164.htm#wp26366
For choosing the right spanning tree protocol (RPVST+ or MST) you have to take logical interfaces and virtual ports into account on the 6500 platform. But what if you decide to use a different platform, for instance a 3750 stack.

Creating a serial virtual port
Are there someone who knows if is possible to create a serial virtual port on Java?

Can I write directly to a USB virtual port ?
I am using a Zebra TLP 2844 printer connected via USB. It does not generate a conventional serial port but is shown as a virtual printer port in the printer config.
For some reason, the newer driver does not provide the ability to rotate my label 90 degrees and I need to send a printer cmomand straight to the printer.
Any options for this ?
May end up having to find the older printer driver that provides for 90 degree location.
Note this is not a Portrait / Landscape issue as I have many other systems already printing correctly but this is yet another "Upgrading to Windows 7" issue I have run into.
Thanks for any thoughts...
Doug
"My only wish is that I am capable of learning each and every day until my last breath."At least one other install is also Win 7 running LV 2011 though that should have no effect. Am using the MS Word specific print functions to populate fields (bookmarks) in a word document (for a label) and sending it to the printer.
The Word document I am using on the other machine prints fine. On this new setup, it prints incorrectly (rotated 90 degrees so only part of the information prints on the label). I am using the latest driver. The other machine may not though so I had considered rolling the driver back to a previous version.
Continuing to work on it, I found that an alternate version of the label that I had on hand would print ok. Tried to compare all the settings between the good printing label and the not good one. Tried adjusting all that to no avail. Finally made a copy of the good printing one and pasted the required text and bookmarks and saved it and now it will print.
It seems that the page layout, margins and such are very critical when printing to a small label on this printer. (Label is only 1.75 wide by .75 high) If I tried to adjust the margins and shift the content, it would change how the label printed (rotation) and I could never recover back to printing correctly.
I am going to file this as a "barely stable document/printer situation" and hope it doesn't take a wild turn. Will make my label document read-only so that it won't inadvertently get changed.
The reason I wanted to write directly to the USB was to send a raw printer command to rotate the print 90 degrees. Hopefully I won't have to figure out how to do that now.
Case closed for me at this point.
Thanks....
Doug

Virtual Port for Bluetooth Printer not being created
I am attempting to install a bluetooth printer (Zebra RW-420) on a Windows 7 Professional 32-bit machine. This works fine the first time, but when I uninstall & unpair it and then re-pair it, the device gets set up on a new virtual com serial port. At this
point, I can not install the printer itself, as the print dialog does not show the com port in the list. I have tried and can NOT reproduce this on two other machines, one running Windows 7 64-bit and one running windows 8.1 64bit. Could this be a bug in Windows
7 Professional 32-bit?
My steps:
1) Click "Add a device"
2) Click "Printer", click "Next".
3) Enter "0000" pin. Click "Next".
4) Bubble from Tray area says "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM4)"
5) Add Printer dialog OR Run "cmd", enter "cscript C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnmngr.vbs -a -p "ZDesigner RW 420" -m "ZDesigner RW 420" -r COM4:"
6) Added printer "ZDesigner RW 420"
7) Print a test page. (Ensures that the next port will show up on a new port.)
7) Remove printer "ZDesigner RW 420"
8) Remove bluetooth device.
9) Repeat steps 1 through 3.
10) Bubble from Tray area says "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM8)"
11) Click "Add Printer" (can't get past port selection screen, as port doesn't show up in list.) OR Run "cmd", enter "cscript C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnmngr.vbs -a -p "ZDesigner RW 420" -m "ZDesigner

I am trying to bring up my first UCS chassis and am getting an error that doesnt make any sense.
The error I am getting is cannot derive WWPN from virtualized port. I didnt configure either WWPN or WWNN or anything to do with iSCSI as for the time being I am using just the local drives on the blades to run from.
Even though I am not using iSCSI or HBA or SAN, so I need to set something up in the templates to reference this ? Going back through what I learned in class but havent found anything yet that points me in the right direction. Hope that someone else has run into this to save me a call to TAC.
RonHello Ron,
Does these blades have Cisco VIC cards ?
This is generally due to service profile configuration where vHBA is configured to derive WWPN from the hardware of Cisco VIC card.
Can you please share screen shot of the error message ?

Unable to create the bluetooth virtual COM port
Hi all
I install BS from Toshiba and it seems ok. Bt ir desn´t work. I see all the drivers installed, system devices, etc. No Toshiba BT ports can be seen. Local com ports only show modem port. Try to create a virtual port but get a message "unable to create a bluetooh virtual port" I have a satellite m100-145. Can anyone help on this ?
thxThx for your suport.
I decide to reinstall windows and all software. Now it works.
The error was due to the fact that if you have BS from Microsoft (called bluetooth monitor) and you install the BS from Toshiba after that, even if you remove the BS from MS, the BS from Tos is unable to create the virtual com ports (except modem).
I try with the latest version of BS and the problem was not solved. So if there is a previous installation of BS fom MS the BS from Tos get the message of "unable to create the bluetooth virtual com port".
Now i fixed reinstalling SO from beginning. -
Virtual serial port??? Vista 64 bit, usb dongle, palm 755p verizon
I have a new 64 bit Vista OS and I'm having all the same problems everyone else is. I can't hotsync using the cable. I purchased the bluetooth dongle (Kensington) that many have said works. My phone recognizes the PC. My instructions on the phone for the hot sync using bluetooth instructs me to set up a virtual serial port. The instructions are not very clear. This is where it falls apart for me. Can anyone explain how to set up this virtual serial port? Thanks.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)
This question was solved.
View Solution.Well I'm happy to report a successful solution. At the recommendation of some other threads I went out and bout and ioGear GBU321 USB Bluetooth adapter and setup was a breeze and it works (although it is SLOOOOOOW compared to a cable hookup, allow some time and plug your treo in during your first sync).
To setup you do the following (And this may also work for your Kensington):
Insert the driver CD
Insert the dongle when asked.
Install the drivers
Pair your device. Basically go to the Bluetooth setup screen on the Palm and select "Trusted Devices". You'll find the bluetooth adapter, select it and then either the palm or the PC will either provide or ask for a paring code. The instructions will guide you through but basically you'll want to make sure the same numbers are entered on both screens (this prevents you from accidentally pairing with some random nearby computer)
This will actually set up your virtual port for you.
You then go into the hotsync manager and click "serial" and select the port just created from the pairing process.
If you don't know what port was created bring up "Control Panels" and select "Phone and Modem" (Assuming you are in "Classic View").
Click on the modem tag and you'll see something like "Standard Modem Over Bluetooth Link" and next to it will be the assigned port.
I hope that helps. I know I was relieved to not have to trash either my Palm or my PC (Although when the Pre or an iPhone with a physical keyboard comes out all bets are off)

Unable to capture data from Serial port using LVRT2010 in single core pentium 4 machine
I am using application written in Labview using windows Labview
Runtime environment 2010. Application creates a tunnel to intercept data from
Serial port.
My problem is, Currently, I am using single core Pentium
processor. When I am trying to intercept the data between COM1 and COM7 (COM 7
is a virtual port) it is not able to capture data.
When I am running Labview RT environment using dual core
processor machine it is running normally. I wonder whether it could be the compatibility issues with
single core Pentium processor.Hi Magnetica
Are both of the machines running the same runtime engine,
drivers ect?
Have you had RT applications running on this
machine before?
Is the development computer a 64bit machine?
The processor is a supported model (See link below).
