X button to close window hanging up

Version 10.5.5 on an Intel Imac
New installation replacing Tiger on the IMac. Clean install no archiving, transferred files using migration tool. All went smoothly.
When I click the red X button on the upper left corner to close a window, I'm getting intermittent behavior. Sometimes it works and closes the window normally; sometimes it does nothing; and sometimes I get a highlighting of the window content.
Can someone advise if this is a known issue or what might be causing it?
Thanks much. Appreciate the forums.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.
It's the red x in the normal trio of the normal Mac window. I was in Safari when it happened. I haven't done any extensive testing or troubleshooting as yet. The first thing that came to mind was that I was placing the curser arrow point a bit off center but I don't think that was it. It's the highlighting of the page that's really puzzling. I'd click the x to close the window and the page content would suddenly highlight. To cure this, I'd wait a second or two, then try it again and the page would close.
I should say that this hasn't happened since I posted. Perhaps it was my error.
In posting I was hoping that if it was a known issue I might save some time solving it. If its not a known issue, chances are I was off the curser point somehow.

The red X should only appear when the mouse cursor hovers over the red circle. At that point, the red X, the yellow - sign and the green plus sign should also be visible. They are not normally visible.
It this your case?
The x's appear as soon as my mouse cursor touches the edge of any of the three circles or is inbetween any two of them.
Does the yellow button minimize the window properly? The green one does very little these days, but it should move the bottom of the Safari window down to the bottom of your screen.

  • Can't Close Windows in Safari

    Because of some bad RAM, I had to do some system and software re-installs. I am running the latest version of Tiger, and windows in Safari will not close. They will go to the dock with the yellow button, but will not close with either the red button, the close window command in the File window or the command W combination. When I quit the program, the old windows go away, but that is a pain. I wait to quit Safari until I have 6 or 8 Safari windows open in the dock. Do I need to reset Safari? (I really don't want to lose the keychain passwords.) I've checked and re-checked preferences, and I don't find anything there, either.

    Hello bassomac:
    Try a couple of things.
    Clear the Safari cache.
    Trash the Safari preference file (com.apple.safari.plist).
    Restart safari and see what happens.

  • How do I add a close window button/image

    All I want to do: Add a close window button (round/square with an "x" through it) to either one or many html files. I don't see how to do this.
    Using RoboHelp 8 HTML and WinXP. Thanks.

    Ahh I see now. You are asking where to obtain such an image!
    The RoboHelp Gallery doesn't contain one. Sorry. You will need to obtain one from any number of other locations.
    You might look at the following link for one possibility.
    Icon Archive
    Here are a couple from my own colloection. You might right-click and save as.
    There are also a number of packages you may purchase or find. Perhaps the following link will help.
    Click here to search Google
    I cannot advise on the legal implications of using said images.

  • How to create a button that close a window/popup.

    Hi, I must create in a view a button that close the window/popup that include the view, the button must be like the OK button of the popup or the X button at the top-right side . It's possible?

    Hi Avalor.
    You can create a custom pop up window. Just create a view that contains all
    elements that you want to display. Add the button that closes the view. Create a
    new window that only contains this new view. Use the mentioned method to create
    a new window as pop up. You just have to pass the name of the window you have
    created. Store the reference to the new window in the component controller
    (mr_window).
    From the new window->view you have access to the component controller.
    In the action handler of the button you can use something like this:
    wd_comop_controler->mr_window->close( ).

  • I need an AS2 button that closes out a pop-up window...

    So, I’ve constructed a portfolio site with ActionScript 2.0, but I would like the pop-up window that displays the portfolio image to have its own ‘X’ button that closes the swf movie from the browser.  I’m assuming that the code begins something like this:
    on(release){
    //actionscript 2.0 code that closes the browser window.
    Any suggestions on how this will work across platforms and browsers?
    Best,
    R.

    Hi kglad,
    My main flash as2 file has a stage size of 1200 width x720 height.  I’ve looked online through various methods on creating pop-up browsers that will display a portfolio image when a button on the main.swf is clicked.  Having no luck in finding what I needed (most tutorials just give getURL examples where the image is displayed in a separate tab), it finally dawned on me to create an overlaying movie, of the same size as the document size, on the top layer of the primary flash stage.  Setting the movie symbol as ‘invisible’ keeps the movie symbol inactive and invisible until called by an action.  The button on the main.swf that calls the movie has the following as2 script attached to it:
    on(release){
                   loadMovie("images/aauComp.swf", _root.movie2);
    However, the aauComp.swf file is where the exit button is located.  I need to implement an on(release){} method onto the exit button in aauComp.swf  that will close the movie out in the main.swf file.  Here’s the double wammy, though: the exit button on the called movie file, aauComp.swf, does not recognize any gotoAndStop(); or on(release){} functions relating to itself when it is loaded. For instance, since I could not find any functions that would close the movie out and return me to the main.swf interface, I wrote the following command on the ‘exit’ button in aauComp.swf:
    on(release){
                   _root.gotoAndStop("blank_frame");
    Where “blank_frame” is within a scene of aauComp.swf that is completely empty – which should, in theory, allow for interaction with the main.swf below the loaded movie since there is nothing on that layer of the loaded aauComp.swf movie.  Make sense?  The ‘exit’ button works fine when aauComp.swf is tested and published by itself, but when it is called into the main.swf with the loadMovie(); function, the 'exit' button will not work and, so, it will not forward to the “blank_frame”.
    Any suggestions?  Let me know if you need anything clarified.
    Thanks.

  • Unix command to click button on dialog box and close windows?

    I administer an elementary school computer lab of 35 eMacs all with OS 10.4.7 and with ARD 3.0. Our network server configuration requires a mounted server on each desktop in order to administer certain software packages we use. Every morning at start-up I have to walk around and manually click "Connect" on the dialog boxes. Then, with this configuration, each time a server is mounted, it opens up a Finder Window on the host machine so I've got to walk around and close windows on all the machines. I'm sure there must be an AppleScript or Unix command that I can set up to do these two tasks but I've not found it (or learned how to write it) in a few days of searching. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    OK guys,
    I just succeeded in saving the AppleScript command as an application. I put it in the Login Items just after the servers. It worked beautifully! No more open windows exposing sensitive files to the risks of elementary students (how come the mounted volumes always appear on the desktop even when the "hide" button is checked?). It would be great if the mounted volumes were not showing at least in a setting like a school computer lab.
    Now, I'm still dealing with the mounting process requiring me to manually click on "Connect" every time. The Student account doesn't even have a password just to make such things easier. Still the process displays this:
    (Oh well, I guess I can't insert a ScreenShot.)
    Here's what it says: Connect to the file server "server name."
    Connect as: Registered User
    Name: "account name"
    √Remember password in keychain
    (and then two buttons) Cancel or Connect
    That's where I'm at right now. My district Tech. Support folks say that there's no way to avoid the dialog box but John seems to do it OK. They also pointed me to an online source (www.bombich.com) that I haven't yet checked out.
    Thanks again,
    Dan

  • Change the Colors of Expand, Minimize and Close Window Buttons

    How do I change the colors of the Expand, Minimize and Close window buttons?
    Red, green, and yellow are not conducive to red-green colorblind individuals, and the gray scheme in the Graphite appearance is too dull.

    If the change in theme can do it, there must be an alternative.

  • Close Window Button

    I have made a "close" button. My close button is supposed to close the window and open another one. How can I do this? Here is my code:
    btnExit.addSelectionListener(new SelectionAdapter() {
         public void widgetSelected(final SelectionEvent arg0)
              doClose();
    shell.addDisposeListener(new DisposeListener() {
         public void widgetDisposed(final DisposeEvent arg0) {
              doClose();
    private void doClose() {
         shell.dispose();
         new MainWindow();
    }When I use the "X" button in the window's top-right corner, the window closes properly and everything is good. However, when I close the window using my Close button, the window does not close properly. I'm assuming it's because I call new MainWindow() after shell.dispose(). But if I call new MainWindow() before shell.dispose() my window will never close.
    Any help?
    btw, I am using SWT not Swing but I don't think this is an SWT specific issue (plus there don't seem to be any swt help forums anywhere)

    SelectionListener is basically ActionListener in SWT. The doClose() method is being invoked by both listeners. So that's not the problem.
    I'm basically curious how I can close the current (and only) window/shell and then open another window (as my first post indicates). The code would be the same for Swing as for SWT, so Swing code would be fine.

  • How to wire into that close window x button

    I want when the end user click the program's x red button at the top right, a dialog box with two buttons will pop out and say "are you sure?", if the end user click Ok, the program will shut off and close its window, if the end user click cancel, the program continues to run.
    So I start building the vi, refer attached, but I was flipping the help search without knowing what is the name of that red x button, and i cant find the function block!
    So, my question is:
    1. I want to wire into that x red close window button event to control my case structure, but where is that function block?
    2. Where is the function block that shut off the program as well as close the program window?
    Thanks.

    I would add, by way of explanation, that you don't actually "tie into the button", you tie into the event that it represents.
    That means that if you add an event for PANEL CLOSE?, that event gets triggered by all the things that would close the window: Clicking the CLOSE box (as mentioned), but also typing CTRL-W, selecting CLOSE from the FILE menu (if that's available), aborting the program from the TASK MANAGER (ctrl-alt-delete), and script operations on OS X.
    Usually, that's what you want. The point is you're being asked if it's OK to close and you get a chance to say "no".  But it doesn't necessarily come from the CLOSE box.

  • How to relocate the Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons on the window

    I am a right-hand user, and would prefer if all my Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons on the window are relocated to the right hand side of the window. Anyone got any suggestion to do it ?

    This is just something you end up getting used to, at least it was the case for me.
    It is not possible to move this, without the help of third-party software.
    ShapeShifter is offers customisation of the look of the Windows, but I don't know if it can move the buttons.

    But I don't know if it is compatible with Leopard yet.

  • Where did Close Tab and Close Window under the File tab go? I end up with all these open windows or exiting altogether.

    Under the File tab, I no longer see Close Tab or Close Window. Thus, I end up with a lot of open windows, because if I click File Exit, I'm logged out.

    You need to create a file userChrome.css in the chrome folder in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and paste the above posted code in the file.<br />
    You can use the ChromEdit Plus extension to make it easier to edit the file.
    You can access the profile folder via this button:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    That code will cause all hidden menu entries to get visible all the time, so you can use the mouse to open the menus and do not need to use the keyboard.
