X Factor cost £1.10 to watch?!?

Hi All,
Has anyone suddenly had a cost added to watch the X Factor nd Xtra Factor? Normally it is free, but now it says it costs me £1.10 per show! I thought this was supposed to be 'freeview'?
Any ideas? Or should I raise a ticket with BT?

Catchup is not Freeview, but it should be free if you have a subscription. Often programmes show a cost when they're first put on the system and this sorts itself out after a couple of hours as things get properly integrated.

Now the requirement is that , we should get the value from this column and I have find some functions. But all don't work.

Be careful, CJ40 write planning cost on RPSCO and BPJA (or BPGE, BPPE).
You can test if you just post on BPJA if you try an CJ02 and select WBS, go on simulation cost screen. You watch 'zero' on the planning cost (ANIA and ANIB table)...
Use MF
KBPV_POST_JA for BPJA and
HFPT_BPIF_RPSCO for RPSCO.

check if these divisions have any postings under cost element 627800. It's because you've selected variable portions with receiver tracing factor cost element 627800.
Why don't you use fixed percentages or fixed portions instead of variable portions?

Bought an ATV last week. What I think about it

I hope some people at Apple are reading this, because there is definitely something that needs to be done with the AppleTV. The idea of it is great and there are some great feature in it, but almost everything turns out to be not useable or a disappointment because of details. I live in Germany where there is currently no videos we can get from the iTune store except for some bad encoded Music videos. I have a video projector that can do 720p (HDMI) and a 3 years old TV (16:9).
Since the ATV only supports HDMI and Component Video, I have to turn on the projector in order to listen to music because my TV only supports RGB and composite, I cannot believe that it is not possible per software to output composite video which is standard (actually I know that it is doable since some people hacked their ATV to do that. My amplifier only support DTS and AC3 so the quality of Dolby Pro Logic II on it is quite bad, why isn't is possible to buy/rent videos encoded with 6 discrete channels converted to standard AC3 or DTS on the fly ? I have 2 Macs with a DVD player, why isn't is possible to stream DVD content ?
On the video projector, all I could watch until now were HD 720p trailers downloaded from Quicktime, I am telling you, except for the sound, the picture is fantastic and makes you want throw your DVDs away. But today, because the software does not support much, the only thing I can do with my almost 600 $ box (it cost 399 € here) is watch my photos with the projector, watch great trailers in 720p and use it as an AppleTV Shuffle for music. I hope there will be very soon a renting service in good quality, Dolby Digital or DTS out put, Video composite out otherwise I will have to sell it on ebay and get a PS3, it would be too bad, because the design is great, the hardware is great .... Please apple do something about the software capabilities.

You are right, everything says on the box, and the box is great, using iTunes to organise songs and movies is also exactly what I want, but with very little doable things, it could be so much more better.
The PS3 supports most video formats H.264, Divx, Blueray, DVD, Full HD, it works with file system too it is very flexible, but will never been as easy to use and organised like an iTunes Library ...
Another example, using iLife, I make family videos of the kids, but I can't play them in a good quality on the AppleTV, because it won't support DVD images, and using Share/Quicktime/AppleTV profile, the video result is very far from the result I get with iDVD (first it does not deinterlace the video and won't give you that option, second the picture quality is not very good, and looks ugly on a 220 cm screen where the DVD looks really good. I am not complaining, I just really want the AppleTV to be a success and do what it could do with no hardware changes.

Get VGA screen on macbook air

I have an embeded device called "eBox 3350MX" which has a VGA port (RS-232 / Serial). Now, I found that PL2303 cables give Mac's connectivity USBtoSERIAL which is good. However, what I want to know is if there's a software that will allo me to get the output of the embedded device on the mac screen, on a sort of terminal window etc.
Otherwise I'll have to buy a JTAG cable and try to connect to the device console, which something I never done before. The problem is that I don't have access to any other stable computer, just the macbook air.

Then as I see it, my options are:
a PL2303 USB-to-Serial cable and then a so-called J-tag cable which enables the 'console' on the device along with specific software which will permit me to read the output
Buy a low cost VGA screen and watch the output on the screen
The 2nd choice might be optimal if I find something small and sleek as I will be able to display some info like weather conditions, headlines etc.

If you are learning, surely enough , learning any o/s other than windows will help. About the industry, there is not just one player that rules in the o/s market. It depends on a lot of factors , cost being the most dominating one. Linux, being a little less costlier, is surely a good choice for many but so is HP UX or AIX. Without bothering about what is more popular, learn one which you can get your hands on in your learning environment more easily. For example, it would be tough to have a AIX based machine in your home and a linux based would be lot easier. So learn one, ,learn it good. When you go to a different shop, use your previous knowledge and learn the know-hows of that o/s as well.

The biggest factor on whether people will watch your movie intro is dependent on their connection speed. If all your viewers have cable/dsl then it probably isn't a problem, if you are getting lots of low speed visitors then they won't take the time to let it load—probably.
If you don't already have Statcounter ( http://www.statcounter.com/ ) and or Goggle Analytics ( http://www.google.com/analytics/ ) you should get both. This will allow you to monitor your visitor demographic, giving you the ability to design your site to the needs of the majority.... plus it is fun to see hits come in from across the country and around the world.
Any how, I degress. Even if all your users have fast connection speeds you will probably have better luck with a flash movie which yields a higher quality to lower size ratio then the Quicktime format. Plus, more people have flash installed on their computers then Quicktime. If you don't have a flash converter you can get a resonably priced conveter at http://www.verticalmoon.com/products/video2swf/video2swf.htm
The only problem with using flash (I currently still use Quicktime) is that you will have to add your movies in post publish. Hope that helps.

Apply policy to large files

i´m using LC Rightsmanagement to apply policies to pdf documents. It
works fine but applying a policy to a 120 MB file takes more than four
minutes. Here is some example code

The last statement "protected.copyToFile(myFile)" takes most time (up
to 4 minutes). Watching the network shows a lot of traffic, so i think
the protected content is streamed via network.
If i use acrobat pro to apply the policy it only needs a few seconds
till the jobs done, so i think that there must be a much faster way to
apply a policy to a document.
Does anyone know about this problem?

It takes about 4 1/2 Minutes to execute the whole code.

The execution of "protected.copyToFile(myFile);" is the one with the highest costs. If i watch the file in explorer i can see it grow with a rate of ~ 400KB/second. Of course our network is much more performant and i would like to instruct lc server to send 4000KB/sec [or more :-)]. adobe livedocs pages (http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/es/sdkHelp/programmer/javadoc/) tell me to set system properties to tune performance. But

Problem in Indirect activity allocation ( KSCB)

I have maintained planning for sender cost centre & activity ype (KP06).
properly given sender cost centre /activity type and receiver cost center/activity ype in cycle ( KSC7).
sender activity type category is 3 ( manual entry, indirect),, receiver activity type category is 1 ( manual entry, manual allocation).
can any one suggest where could be wrong.

I am explaining my scenario here:
I have done cost centre planning in KP06 for production cost centre and production activity type for example cost centre 1 & cost centre 2 and activity type 1 with some cost elements.
I have executed LTP and passed the Planned activity quantity to KP26.
Now I have some costs like energy , which I want to distribute to production cost costre using indirect activity allocation. So I have defined IAA cycle ( as you suggested using rule 3. quantity calculated inversely and sender cost centre is costcentre3 and activitytype2 ( category 2 indirect entry,indirect allocation) and receiver as cost centre 1 & 2 and activity type1 . sender values 1000 and receiving tracing factors cost centrea 85% & cost centre2 15%.
I have maintained cost centre planning for sender i.e cost centre3 & activity type2 in KP06.
Executed the IAA cycle (KSCB) with out errors.
Now exeucted KSPI, then system is picking the costs maintained for cost center 1 & 2 , it is not picking the costs which were mainttained for cost centre 3 & activity type 2.
my assumption is, once IAA is executed, system has to transfer the costs to production cost centres and then arrive activity prices.
Please suggest me where I went wrong?

Pretty cool, I mean, one example (besides DVR's) is a cam corder that has this and you can watch it from the cam corder right to the tv, no wires, burning dvd's, look at all the companies involved.

I agree (as well as think this is a great discussion), but if you look at their spec (which is open source) it sort of has some of the apple tv rental themes already if you implement any on-demand feature.
I believe it goes a step further by allowing the connectivity between computer, camera, HD, cam corder, phone all wirelessly - the thing is, will apple make their computers dlna certifiable or will one have to buy a 3rd party HD?
Also, while you can connect via a wire, connecting wirelessly is something entirely different. Moreover, lets say you ripped a DVD to watch on your computer, that you own, or have it in a .AVI, MP4 or WMA format, Apple TV won't support that, whereas with this technology, in theory, your sister in Baha could upload a movie in a small form factor (<600MB) and you could watch it on your TV in realtime or download it.
I also see the TV/NET becoming more of one, not less. For example, when I was working in the music business, I saw it coming before many executives, predicted the demise of walk in video stores 5+ years ago, and the fall of the CD, and now believe that the networks will suffer the same way once we can all pipe 120MB or 1200MB per second in realtime as the entertainment will become the vehicle to shows, comedy, drama and indie sources and TV's will host those feeds via internet.
Right now for example, you can watch MLB at 1.2 MB per second, not to shabby, but not to bad considering you can do this live anywhere. Now imagine once it jumps from 1.2 to 12.0 or 120MB.
One also has to question, after all this time, you would think KEYNOTE Address's would be live and you wouldn't have to wait.
If MLB can do it, why can't Apple.

Optical Drive Scratching my DVD on the right side

My DVD drive on my MacBook Pro 13.3 Mid 2010 model is catching on the right hand side as I insert a disk. This is putting a slight scratch on the right hand side of the disc that is inserted.
How can I fix this?

good news is a new Superdrive (internal) made by Panasonic only costs $40
You could watch an Ifixit.com video on replacing the Superdrive, ...its very easy, however I used to fix laptops, so my 'easy' maybe someone elses "hard".
In any respect, at worst, you could buy the Superdrive new on ebay or OWC and have a computer repair place install it for , who knows, somewhere around $40, $50
FIx it yourself depends on a LOT on what your skills are in such things. Of which I know nothing about that specifically.
In laptop parts replacement on a scale of 1 to 10, its about a 2 or a 3 (easy).
check you dont have something metal hanging in the loading bay of the superdrive, that felt lining you see. DONT stick anything inside, but just see if you see some foreign debris there scratching same.
otherwise the loader or internal tray of the superdrive is scratching your DVDs / disks.

Quick Time Pro and exporting movie files

With Quicktime Pro do you have to purchase Flip for Mac for people with Windows Media Players or Realtime players to be able to view it?
I've heard of something called AV files. Does Quicktime Pro export a file in some version that can be read by other players, or do I have to purchase some software?

People with Windows can get the free QT Player for windows and view your QT files that way. One version of Flip4mac will allow you to start with QT and output WMV files. Those would play in Windows Media Player. AVI files might or might not depending on the codec used inside the AVI container.
There is lots of QT media on the internet, and Windows users just download and install the QT player at no cost and then can watch downloaded or streaming QT media.
