X fails to start, dell 1545

Hi there!
OK, I should start by saying I'm almost a complete noob to arch, but not to Linux. I've used Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Puppy, DSL... You get the picture
However, I'm stumped. I followed the directions in the arch wiki to install gnome. However, whenever I execute gdm, startx or xinit, I get a blank screen. I don't have an xorg.conf, or even a /etc/X11 folder, which might be a problem, but I'd assume that it would generate a generic config file on the first run.
I'm using a dell 1545 laptop with an intel GM4500HD graphics chip.

  • Dell 64 bit pc . Tried updating to latest version.  Error message says Apple mobile device service failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services.  What does that mean?

I have a dell 64 bit pc and had an older version of ITunes installed.  When I tried to install the 12--- version, the install stopped with the message, "Apple Mobile Device Services failed to start, verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services".   I have no clue what that means.  can anyone help.  ????

    Hi doywks,
The Apple Mobile Device is a component of iTunes that communicates between your computer and your iPhone or iOS device.  The error message you are seeing "verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services" has to do with the Windows operating system.  It's possible that you are not logged in as the administrator for your Windows PC.  Or, you may have antivirus software stopping the Apple Mobile Device from running.

  • I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

  • TS1567 Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Vertify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services.

    Hello All,
I am having a problem when downloading ITunes on my Dell Inspiron 6400, an error message appears which says Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services. I have uninstalled ITunes and downloaded software to clean the regitry. This did not work, I even went into my local Apple store in Manchester, they downloaded ITunes onto a CD but it still does not work.
I am going on holiday on Wednesday and would like to have my songs on my Iphone before then.
All help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

  • Vista itunes not installed correctly.  Error 7.  Windows error 998.  Itunes helper not installed correctly.  Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start.  Insufficient privileges.

OK, spent about 25 frustrating hours so far this weekend doing everything recommended on numerous threads here -- uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and all Apple items.  Help?
I am using Windows Vista home premium.  After the last iTunes update to 12, it suddenly would not work.  I followed, to a T, all instructions to uninstall all Apples software, in the correct order, reboot, download the latest iTunes, run as administrator, plug in the iPhone 5S, let the driver install, and then finish.
Along the way, I received the error that "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."  I am the administrator and have privileges.  (I previously followed instructions from anther thread to change the read-only privileges for Apple folders, but to no avail.  I also deleted every file with the word Apple in it after I uninstalled everything.)  I did a retry and then an ignore during installation of the AMD error, which I have received 10 times.
The other error I keep getting is:  "iTunesHelper was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7."  I have done that 20 times.
Other frequent error:  "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 998)."
I followed other threads suggestions to install Windows .NET versions 3.5 and 4.0.  No help.  I also looked for various specific Apple files in various folders for DLLs, etc.  Not present.  I have rebooted 50 times and tried different users on my home account as well.  Nothing.
I also followed instructions to Manage my computer under "services."  Under Apple Mobile Device, the setting is for "automatic."  When I try to get it to "start," the error I receive is "Windows could not start the Apple Mobile Device on Local Computer.  Error 1053:  The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."  (I followed previous thread instructions to use the CMD prompt to stop it.  That caused problems because the status was then "stopped," but I was able to restart it later once I figured that out -- but with the 1053 error again.)
I think I've tried every suggestion in every thread for the four errors I keep getting (AMD failed to start; iTunesHelper Error 7; Windows error 998; and AMD Error 1053.)  I am fresh out of ideas and very frustrated.  I mostly want to make sure I don't lose my music and photos, which I was about to sync.
The only other thing I see that is strange on my computer (which I discovered along the way) is that I cannot receive automatic windows updates and have not had an update since 2012.  My iTunes worked a month ago, so that was obviously not a show-stopper in the past, but perhaps there is a Vista update I need for iTunes 12?  I have service pack 2 for Vista.  I have followed all threads to try to set my windows to automatic update, but no joy there either.  It checks for updates and then fails.  I followed instructions and did run an installation to install windows automatic updates, but that doesn't work either.  I tried 10 times.  It runs and takes a while, but is never able to successfully update windows.  It says "checking for updates" for a while.  Then it dies.  My last update was 6/19/12 (failed) and it says the most recent check was 6/22/12, but I have tried 20 times on 10/31/14 and 11/1/14.
When asked to "Install new Windows Update software" to check for updates, I have done so 10 times.  It downloads and installs, but never works.
It's an old Dell desktop computer from 2006, and I'm using an iPhone 5S.  I am fresh out of ideas.  Anyone really smart here?
    Thanks.
    Tristan

Upon latest reboot, I also received this error message:  "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).  Click OK to terminate the application."
Then I got the iTunesHelper not installed correctly error again.
Then the "Windows can't check for updates" error message.
Then "Apple Push has stopped working."  Then a quick DEP error message that disappeared but said something about Apple Push being closed.
I'm also getting denials of service logged by McAffee.  Not sure if I'm getting a virus/attack or not.
Not sure if it's a problem with my old desktop machine, my Windows Vista updates, or iTunes, but I'm very frustrated and out of ideas to try.
    Thank you for your help!
    Tristan

  • Systemd-logind occasionally fails to start

    Hi,
I am running Arch with Cinnamon started by mdm-display-manager. I had this running for quite some time without an issue.
Recently an issue popped out - OCCASIONALLY systemd-logind fails to start and I get stuck on boot screen. This happens maybe once in 5-10 boots. I have to do hard reset afterwards. CTL+ALT+DEL won't work, I can not switch to other console and I have no network to SSH to that machine.
Other than that, system starts just fine.
I am not sure, how to debug this further and would appreciate advice.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. systemd-logind sporadically fails to start, therefore preventing the login prompt to appear. Resetting the machine is the only solution in that case. Most of the time, the system start works without problems though. Here are a few relevant lines from my logs:
    # journalctl --unit=systemd-logind | grep -C50 'Connection timed out'
    -- Reboot --

  • Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services????

I recently got an iPhone 5s and had to download the new itunes which I had been putting off for ages, otherwise it wouldn't sync. It wouldn't let me download and instead said 'service mobile device service' failed to start. I then tried to uninstall (as recommended by apple) and re install but the same error came up. If i click ignore, it finishes downloading but refuses to open, instead coming up with 'error 7 windows error 193'. Ive tried everything and this is really frustrating, help would be much appreciated

OK Dave, i just found one solution that worked for me.  However, I find that solutions appearing on discussion threads often are very OS and machine specific, so I normally try a variety of suggestions.  After awhile one suggestion normally works.  So try this one, remembering I have a Dell PC with Win 7 x 64 which may not fit your situation.
Go to https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606166#24606166 where you will find a solution from touringtest2.  The soulition requires an easy uninstall of Apple software items.  I followed the steps outlined exactly and have successfully installed the most recent iTunes software.  Hope this works for you and a few others too.  Apple support sure doesn't make it easy for interested users which is why I appreciate support communities like this.  Thank you touringtest2 wherever you are.  Best - RonS42

  • Safari 4 fails to start

    Hi.
I just installed Safari 4 on my work PC. When launching the application it crashes immediatelly. In the Application Event viewer the following is collected:
Faulting application safari.exe, version 4.530.17.0, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.1433, fault address 0x000172d7.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I'm running Windows XP PRO SP3. Dell Latitude, Intel Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM. I have latest iTunes (v8.2.0.23) and Quicktime (7.6.2 build 515) installed on the same PC, both working fine.
I've tried to uninstall and re-install -> same result.
    Any ideas?

One thing worth to mention. I did install Safari 3 on my PC way back but I removed it after short usage as it was not really working for me. It crashed frequently and after a short while I un-installed it.
I tried again to un-install Safari 4. This time I also searched Regedit for Safari keyword and removed (almost) all occurrences. I left out those that did not apply to the software itself. Note however that I did remove the link from MobileMe and all references by the windows installer. Seems like Apple is not cleaning properly as the Registry is full of Safari references after the un-install.
I also removed all folder and files that related to Safari install. This includes Program Files, Common Files and Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple.
Once I had removed all occurrences from Regedit I re-installed Safari 4.
This does not resolve the issue. Safari still fails to start.

  • Windows 8 Hyper-V - Virtual Machine Management Service failed to start the virtual machine

I have Hyper-v running on Dell Precision T3600 with Windows 8 OS.  I am trying to start a VM (called Windows8VM) to install Windows 8 in the hyper-v virtual machine, but I keep getting the following message:
    "Windows8VM" failed to start.
Failed to start the virtual machine "Windows8VM" because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.

I have turned the hyper-v feature on in the "Turn Windows feature on or off.  The BIOS has virtualization enable.  Help!!! driving me nuts for a week now.

Okay,  I turned off hyper-v, went to bios and enabled Intel TXT(LT-SX) Configuration.  Made sure that both Virtualization and VT for Direct I/0 are on.  Next, I turned on Hyper-V and I create a brand new Virtual Machine call Windows8 and had
the DVD point to Windows8 ISO file on hard drive.  When I clicked on start, it stayed in the Starting status mode for about 5 minutes.  Then of course it failed.  I looked at the Hyper-V-VMMS log and here is what it output:

  • HT1386 fail to start sync session

So I got a new Macbook and when I went to sync my I-Pod it deleted everything on my I-Pod and the only things I could restore were things on the cloud. I then resynced to my old computer (Dell)  to get all the other stuff back on my I-Pod. When I did that I got my stuff back except for the the music I got from CDs. I was then able to successfully put the music, videos, etc. to my new computer. Months later I tried to resync to my old computer, for backup and to try and get my other music back on my I-Pod. However it did not work, I kepted getting a failed sync alert. I then restored my I-Pod and tried to sync, but I keep getting the failed to start sync session message, and nothing is working. When I look on my I-Pod all my pictures are there, and I can see the lists of music and videos I have but they are faint and I cannot tap them to work. I don't know what to do now.

Can you please tell me why this error is coming and how to resolve it.

    The error got resolved..
    The files in
    App_Server\apache-tomcat-6.0.32\default\data\hypersonic
    were corrupted hence the error.
Replaced them with the ones from a correct installation and voila!
