X-Fi Card Installed fine, then undected after resta

My computer setup:
Biostar TForce-600 Motherboard.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
.5 GB Corsair RAM
XP Professional SP2
My issues began yesterday when I purchased a new X-Fi Fatalty Platinum sound card. I have installed several Creative sound cards in computers I have owned (most recently an Audigy 2 Platinum) so I was familiar with the process (not that it is difficult).
I installed this without any issues.
That is, until I tried installing the drivers. I inserted the installation CD, and upon loading it told me that it could not detect any compatible sound cards. I tried restarting several times, and each time I got the same error message.
I tried putting the card in a different PCI slot, and it made no difference. I got the same error.
I checked the device manager, and the card was listed as a "Multimedia Audio Controller."
I called Creative Tech Support and got walked through a number of troubleshooting options, most of which I had tried already. None of them worked.
So I took the card back to the store where I bought it. They assured me that the problem was most likely a defecti've card, since my computer recognized that it was plugged in but the drivers couldn't see that it was the proper X-Fi card.
So I did an exchange and got a simpler card--the X-Fi XtremeGamer card.
I removed all the leftovers from my first attempt at installing the X-Fi Platinum and started over.
This time, all was well. The Installation CD recognized the card, installed the Drivers and Software without a hitch. I saw the Audio icon in my system tray after install and opened it up. Sure enough, it listed the X-Fi as my working sound card. I restarted the computer, per the setup's prompt, and all seemed fine.
That is, until the computer booted back up. Upon loading windows, an error message came up informing me that no compatible audio device was installed, and that the Creative sound mixing software would be shutting down.
I never got any sounds out of the computer. The system tray no longer has an Audio icon. The sound card is still recognized as being plugged in, but like before, it is listed as a "Multimedia Audio Controller," not as an audio device.
Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.Message Edited by studcopter on 04-25-200707:23 PM

this happened to me. to the letter. i never got the card to work. don't bother re-installing windows cos it won't make any difference - unless, that is, you've got plenty of time and don't mind giving it a shot. it's almost certainly a compatibility issue with your mobo, i've got a biostar too, though a different model. I'd return the card - if you can (I couldn't).

  • Never-hacked 4 gets "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone" after update to 7.0.2

I was using iOS 7.0.1 an hour ago.  Upon update to 7.0.2 I get "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate."
I know I haven't a SIM.  I threw it away.  I moved on.  New carrier - HTC phone.  I've been using my iPone 4 as an iPod without the SIM for over half a year.  Before that I did the same with my iPhone 3 for much longer.
What hoops do I have to jump through now to recover my iPhone 4?
The phone has never been jailbroken or altered.
ATT was my original sevrice provider while I bought my device from Apple.

All iPhones require activation after a restoration and an iOS upgrade.  There really was no reason to throw your deactivated SIM  from AT&T away.  You'll need an AT&T sim to activate that phone.  It doesn't need to be active, however.  Borrow one from someone to get your phone activated

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

trying to active my old iPhone 3gs. it showing that activation server is temporary unavailable and on the iTunes showing that there is no sim card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate. I unlocked my phone then i upgrade it, after that this happen. i tried with other sim same message come again and again.if any body know solution let me know. thanks

Was the SIM card activated on another phone? I assume this is an ATT style trying to use on T-Mobile? Was the SIM installed correctly? Is the carrier (like T-Mobile) operating IOS 6 devices yet?
If the SIM is a valid SIM from say T-Mobile, you may want to contact them for assistance activating the SIM card.
Activation and SIM issues typically point to the carrier. And if this was a CDMA phone say working with verizon, it will NOT work for ATT or T-Mobile as they use different electronics on the 3GS. The SIM slot is for international use only.

  • There is no SIM card installed after IOS update on 3GS

    Hey!
I just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5. All went well, then at the end, it asks me a few set ups (like language, Location, and WiFi settings).
After that, it attempts to activate, and fails, giving me the following error in iTunes: "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate."
Problem is, there IS a SIM card in the phone, I tried taking it out, and putting it back in, tried with another SIM, tried the SIM in another phone, worked fine, just not the iPhone!
    I would appreciate any help!
Also, the phone was Jailbroken before, and the SIM worked fine. Just not now, when it tries to activate.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO GO BACK TO THE BEST PREVIOUS UPDATE OF IOS4. THAT"S ALL I EXPECT NOW!

    @wendy191,
Have you jailbroken your phone before?
If you have, I don't see any way you could go back to IOS4 (4.3.3 or 4.3.5) (However, experts might be able to help you)
When you jailbreak you iPhone you update your baseband to iPad's Baseband i.e. 6.50 (something like that) & once that happens there's no going back (at least a legitimate way) unless you do what this guy says.

Watch this video on youtube. Listen to what he says & you can surely get through the activation.

  • "No Airport card installed" after 10.5.8 update

Just upgraded the latest Leopard update 10.5.8 and, after restart, the Airport icon in my menu bar says "No Airport card installed".
I've been into System Prefs and tried to switch it on, but nothing. I've even been into the system profiler and, when I look under Network > Airport card it says no information found.
I'm on a two-week-old 13" MacBook Pro, which has been working fine with its Time Capsule since it was bought.
    Cheers in advance.

    HI,
Try the 10.5.8 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
As with any installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • After upgrading to MAC OS X 10.10.2 Lightroom 5 has an error that it cannot read the card when trying to import photos.  The card is fine as I can import into iPhoto so any ideas?

After upgrading to MAC OS X 10.10.2 Lightroom 5 cannot read the card (RAW files , converting to DNG) when importing.  The card is fine as I can import into iPhoto - any ideas?

It’s usually necessary to trash the prefs after updating OSX to Yosemite. Start by quitting Lightroom 5.
Launch Finder and click the Go menu whilst holding down the Option (alt) key. Then go to:
    Library >> Preferences
clear everything relating to LR5 which usually means deleting the following files:
    com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist
    com.adobe.Lightroom5LSSharedFileList.plist
    Then re-launch Lightroom.

  • I can't update my ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server"(despite internet connection being fine). Also, when I try and update software it starts then stops after 2 seconds

I can't update my Ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server" despite internet connection being fine. When I receive a software update message;I say install and it starts updating then stops after 2 seconds. Help! (It is a 3rd gen IPod touch(I think)). Presumably as a result of this, I have tried to put my library onto my gf's new iPod touch and it just charges it..doesn't download my library onto the touch).

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

    Any solutions yet?
"No SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" after updating to iOS 5.
Living in Canada with Rogers service provider.

Its an IMEI issue.  In my case, about a year ago, after originally purchasing my iP4 from AT&T store, I had a prox. sensor issue.  Went to the Apple Store, they replaced the phone.  Here is where it all stems from.  The IMEI of the new phone was never updated in AT&T/Carriers systems.  For iOS updates prior to iOS5, this was not an issue.  My phone did its iOS updates along the way with no probs.  However, when I updated to iOS5, the firmware did not match the IMEI with what AT&T/carrier had.  When I went to Apple Store for the issue about 3 days ago and was given a new phone....again....the new phones IMEI was never updated with AT&T/carrier.  I then again attempted the upgrade to iOS5 with the new phone and iOS5 bricked that one also.  Today, at the store, we tried 3 replacements with same outcome.
So, after 4 hours and 3 replacement phones with Apple Store Tech (BTW totally gobsmacked), we solved the issue.  Luckily, due to iPhone 4S launch, there was an AT&T guy there with a computer tied to the AT&T network to work along with us.  The issue is......once the IMEI's on carrier account and phone do not match, iOS5 shuts down the sim card reader within phone.....forever. How to reverse this?......this is a question Apple needs to come up with, because with my case, they have 5 "bricked" phones.
What solved the issue was to get a new phone with iOS4.3.5, new SIM from carrier/AT&T, have carrier/AT&T (in their system) change/match the IMEI to the new phone and activate new SIM.  Then, do iOS5 upgrade.
Simple and makes total sense..........however........there is an internal firmware (Apple Security??) issue that bricks the phone once IMEI's dont match.
I am now on iOS5.....no problems......so far.  Good luck to all others.

  • Iphone 3gs "no sim card installed" issue after updating iOS

I have an iPhone 3Gs. Last week I started updating the iOS of the phone then, I was brought to the page wherein I need to activate the phone. After going through some tabs to tap, the screen says " iphone cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable, try to connect to iTunes. So I followed what is instructed. I connected the phone to iTunes but the message says, There is no sim card installed on your iphone. Before I updated the phone, the sim card was not inside the phone, so I inserted it back after the message "no sim card installed, try to disconnect and insert your sim card". But still nothing happened, the message keeps appearing. Also, I can see a "No service" message on the upper Ieft part of the phone. Is the sim card not inside the phone before updating the iOS the main reason why the phone cannot recognize the sim card? first time iphone user here, my aunt gave me this iphone. I really need help. Thank you so much

Ask your aun if the phone was hacked/jailbroken. Those problems are symtomatic of a hacked phone.

  • No Airport Card Installed after factory restart

I tried a factory restart on my Airport Express after having some slow connection issues. Now I show "No Airport Card installed" Is it likely my Airport Card is dead?

I should clarify ... I had this same problem on the old drive but only after restarting from boot camp. But an old platter hard drive is simply too slow to bother with boot camp for my needs, so I just went back to OS X only.
It hasn't been an issue since last Christmas when I first noticed it. Since then, I've had every single part of this Macbook Pro replaced except for the battery, battery cover, and back panel plate. Some components were replaced multiple times. But it's not been a problem because I haven't been using boot camp.
I really don't see how it could be a hardware issue when it only happens during restarts, not during cold boots ... and only happens going from Windows to OS X, not the other way. Could be something in a hardware check from cold boot that doesn't happen on a soft reset.
Other people seem to be having issues with their airport cards not being recognized for a variety of reasons. I suspect it's something an update will cure. Or it'll just be like a variety of other minor bugs which Apple hasn't bothered to fix yet (like the keyboard backlight not switching off under bootcamp, etc).
Thanks for testing it out on your systems. Was just curious if anyone else had seen the problem.

  • Weird doings after Airport Card install

I have an early 2009 Mac Pro that didn't have an Airport Card, so I decided to install one. I figured it'd be easy, but it took multiple tries to get those little wires attached to the card.
So, when I restart the Mac, the card worked fine, but I'm got beach balls upon start-up of applications and the internet through the ethernet wire port seemed slower.
I reset Vram, repaired permissions and still had slowdown, then ran both the short and long hardware tests, and they came out fine. But now, suddenly everything seems ok, which is really weird...any ideas?

doivey, Welcome to the discussion area!
I updated my father's iMac (17-inch flat panel 1 GHz) from 10.2 to 10.3 and installed an Airport Express card.
There is no "AirPort Express" card so I assume that you mean the AirPort Extreme card.
It's a long shot, but you could try resetting the open firmware. The procedure is
Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
    Press Return.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
    Press Return.
If that doesn't work and assuming that you installed an AirPort Extreme card, one or more of the following is true:
    The card is installed incorrectly.
    The card is defective.
    The iMac's motherboard is defective.

  • "No AirPort Card Installed" Message after PMU reset

My battery memory time was getting shorter and shorter, even after a full re-charge (less than 50 minutes). Apple Care suggested that I do a PMU reset and then recalibrate the battery. After I did that my AirPort icon has disappeared, and when I try to use Airport Setup Assistant, I get a message that says "No AirPort Card installed."
Yikes - any thoughts about how to get my AirPort working again?

You might want to post in the Powerbook G4 section, you might get more help there. Do you have built in airport or a card? If you have a card try pulling it out and re-seating it.
