X-Fi center channel distort

I think there is something wrong with my x-fi's center channel. It sounds like the sound is like underwater and it gets louder and quieter randomly. I tried with my speaker and headphone so it's the X-Fi I believe. Anyone else have this problem? I'm going to try and RMA

I started having similar problems. The analog audio is very distorted but digital audio is fine. This is a XFi-Music card I bought 3-4 months ago. I cannot use the headphones because of this. I have tried reinstalling drivers and switching the PCI port but nothing worked.
For now I am using the digital out and using the headphones through the speakers.

Hi all,?Is there a way to have voice coming from the center speaker during TV programs like you could using an external receiver with Pro Logic? I can't for the life of me, get my Audigy 4 to do this. I run MCE 2005 on a couple of machines in the house. On my other machine, with built in audio, I let the Purevideo decoder handle this and I get? a nice surround, complete with center channel voice on it while watching TV. On the machine with the Audigy 4, not only will it not give me the center channel while watching TV, but I can't get it to stop processing the sound so that I can simply use the decoding of the Purevideo Decoder... • Various types of sound out of center channel on

So lets see, quicktime movie trailers, music in winamp, games,?MSN nudge sound, ?-they all come out all 5. channels (Z-5500s)?But the audio for flash movies I've had on my computer, some WMP videos, MSN new message sounds - these are all center channel only - and werent on my last system.
another thing - if I change the audio settings under control panel to quadraphonic - they do come out all the speakers, back to 5....... center channel only. its very distracting and stupid to not be utilizing all the speakers for things like a video. whats the deal here? Thanks for the help in advance.

apparently the issue might be that the X-Fi/console just plays mono encoded material through center only?
i preferred when it utilized all the speakers for things like that anyways on my audigy gamer...
    is this the case?
edit: CONFIRMED. I found the msn sounds, and haha the NUDGE IS STEREO and the TYPE is MONO. Explains everything! now to get Creative to fix it....
    Further:
with CMSS3D off, mono will play over both R and L, just with no seperation of course. (but then your rears center will never be used by pretty much anything outside of games)
with it On XPAND, it will play through center only. (4 not being used)
with it on SURROUND, it will play through center and rears, but not front L and R. (the 2 most important ones arguably not being used)
seemingly on my Audigy , all speakers would be used even for mono sources. So am I correct in guessing they changed things?
All speakers should be used for mono sources.
Can creative update this in a new driver?
EDIT: ARG I just found out it only happens in "entertainment mode" at that! Game mode does 4/5 (not centre). What is the reasoning for this?Message Edited by deusfaux on 03-0-200609:2 PM

  • Center channel is

So the problem is, I have X-Fi ExtremeGamer Fatalty and my center channel is very quite - barely hearable. I've done pretty anything - reinstalled drivers, reinstalled console launcher (now installed those beta drivers and console), gone through various configurations (enabled disabled CMSS, tried to manualy boost the center channel volume, bass redirection) nothing hel
    ps.
At first i thought it's Speedlinks Medusa home fault, but it isn't - it works fine with integrated soundcard and with the old Audigy 2 ZS.
The only workaround wich works, for some reason (unknown to me), is when i half-plug center channels jack. Is this the fault of software or hardware... or both?
And yes i've searched through forums and still haven't found any good solution for this.

mine is too...center is pretty quiet, the only way i've gotten mine to work is the upmix option on my speakers...but as of today those don't work either(creative as well).

  • Center channel won't work now

I just did a fresh windows install, reinstalled the creative drivers and
software. I have it set to 5. like before but now it's sending my center
channel sound through my Sub. My sound card is a creative xfi xtremegamer
fatality pro with z5500 as my speakers. I messed with all the options I can and
the sound is all messed up.

Ya this all started happening after a clean boot/reinstall. I ran the onboard and a ps3 optical on my z5500 and I'm having the same issue of the sound going to the Sub instead of the center and rear.
If it's also happening with your onboard sound, you might want to isolate the problem and see if this is an issue with the z5500 speakers. Disconnect the speakers system, connect a pair of headphones to the Line Out 3 and perform a speaker test. Monitor if the X-Fi XtremeGamer is sending the correct output to the center and subwoofer channels.
Note: Lower the volume before you try this.

  • When testing speakers form the Sound mixer....no center channel so

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy MP3+ sound card, everything has been find up till now. When I test the speakers in the 5. configuration from the sound mixer the voice gives me sound out of each speaker except the center channel. I have updated the drivers etc.
I can hear sound through the center speaker but not during the test?
    Any ideas?

this might help or maybe not.
has your sub got a setting for direct mode. if you have set it to direct, then check your setting in organizer/player.

I have my apple TV plugged into my Denon receiver.  My receiver is setup with 3 speaker channels, one center, one left front and one right front.  When I listen to music via Airplay, sound comes only from the center channel and right, nothing on the left.  When I watch Cable Television (not using the Apple TV), all 3 channels work fine so I know that the speaker connections are fine.

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

  • Audigy And 5.1 Sound In Quicktime 7-- center channel doesn't wo

I've posted this on Quicktime's website, but it doesn't seem to be a problem with other soundcards. When playing a Quicktime7 movie with 5. audio, the center channel is silent on my Audigy card. Games, etc. all utilize the center channel just fine.
I don't know who is to blame, but it's really really annoying. Creative should work with Apple to make sure things are 00% with regards to this.

  • Audio Center Channel gone

    Hi there!
I have been trying to work this problem out for some time without success, so I hope somebody here is able to help me.
I recently finished a project in CS 5.0.3 containing a lot of clips coming from DVDs which contain 5.1 sound which Premiere neatly converted to stereo tracks. Today I opened the project again to make some final changes only to find that the audio was not working as it did before. Suddenly the downmix Premiere does is missing the center channel. If I import a new clip an manually deselect all of the other channels only then I can hear the center. I tried creating a new project but it behaves just the same: the source monitor seems to playback the sound without the center, but if I drag the clip to a stereo track it the downmix seems correct.
This is all very odd, considering that nothing was changed. Maybe some external codec that has to do with how Premiere downmixes the audio? Hope somebody can help me out with this.
    Thanks, dave

Dragging the clips which contained a 5.1 mix to a stereo track
To the best of my knowledge, that is not possible.  A clip will only go on a track of the same type.
These are mpeg2 files containing an ac3 6-channel mix. Previously Premiere seemed to handle them as stereo tracks (the information on these tracks that I imported a month ago still reads "Compressed - Stereo", but Modify->Audio channels reveals there are 6 channels only two of them are selected L & R). If I now reimport any of these tracks Premiere suddenly says "Compressed - 3 Stereo". I suppose that this difference in handling the ac3-audio has resulted in the missing tracks.
Could anybody tell me how their version of Premiere handles files with ac3 audio?
Does Premiere rely on any extrenal codec to decode ac3 audio? It might have been that this codec was updated on my machine and now produces a different result?
    Thanks again, dave

  • Rear and center channels not working

I just got a Griffin Fire Wave for my iMac and it works great when playing DVDs and such. But when I'm mixing in STP2 I pan the surround to the rear and I don't hear anything, I did a test to see if it exported in 5.1 and it did, I could hear all channels. But its frustrating not being able to monitor the
Ls Rs and C channels. Any Ideas?

Its definedly the soundcard which makes the funny noise, I just tested the outputs with headphones. Its really funny thing that center channel works perfectly if rear channel plug is disconnected, but you plug the rear channel plug it mixes up with the center channel also.
I just want to be sure before I send it to supplier (warranty is still good), because if it works on their computer they will charge me for 50? for the checking.

  • DDTS-100 + i-Trigue 5600 + CH-DVD 462 center channel issue? Please help...

    Hi there,
I'm having some problems with this setup.
My DVD player is set to RAW output.
All cables are connected properly (checked, double checked)
When playing most 5.1 content (Dolby Digital track from DVDs) surround works perfectly except for the center channel. It's completely deaf. If I set the decoder to Stereo output, it works, so I know it's not the speakers. I tried some tests (7.1 THX Optimizer tests present on some SW DVDs) and the center channel works here (but the other ones are sort of messed up), so I assume it's not the decoder either.
I tried the center/sub switching cable that came with my last speaker set, and though it does switch the channels (I can hear mumbling dialogs in the sub channel) the center channel remains deaf.
So I know that the sound actually makes it out of the DVD (RAW is RAW) to DDTS-100 and from DDTS-100 to the speaker set (yep, the signal's here but I can't hear).
I should mention that I used competetive speakers before and had a similiar issue with the subwoofer channel - it made sound only for the LFE DVD channel as those speakers were not doing subwoofer channel computing (AFAIK Creatives do (bad bad bad bad)), but I assume DDTS and i-Trigue 5600 are supposed to be compatible...
    I'm completely puzzled. Any suggestions?

    shin8,
Are you getting proper output if you use the "TEST" button on the remote control?

  • 5.1 X-gamer and center channel of 5.1 speak

    Hello,
first post may as well be a good one..
Ive read the FAQ and tried the options listed. im working with a week old install so not much on the dri've other than world of warcraft and MS office. Im running windoze XP pro on a AMD Sempron 2500+(.75ghz) with gig of ram and a nvidia GEforce6800GT video card. I have had this sound card a while, like 5 or 6 years. Ive connected a brand new Logitech X-5530 sound system to my X-gamer 5. sound card. everything sounds awesome excpet the center channel. Ive connected the center channel to the main output jack and got sound, so i know the speaker is functioning. the sub and center channel share a line on the X-530 speaker wires and the sub is working. however i get no sound out of the center channel. I tested this with the Creative Audio HQ panel set on 5. speakers. all other channels i hear the "front right, front left" etc... but center channel is totally silent.
    any ideas?

Hmm, first go through windows control panel - sound and Audio Devices. Ensure you card is selected in all setup menus.
If "use only default devices is ticked, untick it.
Try S/PDIF and see if that works.
D/L this program - ?rightmark-3dsound-2.2 and run it just to tes things.

  • Accessing center channel in Sony AVCHD video AC3 audio (5.1 surround)

I have tons of video shot on Sony HDR-CX7 and HDR-CX12 camcorders (AVCHD) in 5.1 stereo. iMovie '09 and Final Cut Express import the audio as two channel stereo, which is normally fine for a consumer app.
I use a Sony wireless microphone to record interviews, and I normally set the camera to record only the monophonic microphone audio. But, there is also a setting to let the camera record 5.1 stereo from it's built-in microphone, and use the wireless mic as the center channel audio.
I have footage recorded this way, and I find that when I play it back in stereo, I get a slight delay/echo caused by the wireless mic recording voices, and the camera recording voices (slightly offset). I cannot use the audio this way.
I want to extract the center channel audio from the AVCHD .mts files. I can then line that audio up with the video in Final Cut Express (or even overlay it in iMovie '09).
Does anyone know of a free utility that can strip out audio from AVCHD files?
It looked like Handbrake might work, but it errors out when it tries to convert more than two channel audio.
I believe the AVCHD audio is AC3 format, so if I can strip that out, Quicktime is able to mute the other surround channels.
    Any tips?

Here is my current status, and a work-around method to accomplish this.
First, using "ffmpeg" it is possible to extract just the .AC3 audio stream from a .MTS AVCHD camcorder file. I have tried to do this with the Mac OS X GUI version, ffmpegX, but it errors out. It looks like it is sending the wrong parameter to ffmpeg internally (or perhaps it is using a different ffmpeg command I have on my machine). Anyway, the command looks like this:
    ffmpeg -i 00000.MTS -acodec copy audio.ac3
That will extract just the audio stream from within the MTS file (which is an AC3 file). By default, you cannot play .AC3 files in QuickTime. It turns out, I had "Perian" installed, which is an extension for QuickTime that allows it to play a bunch of other files. One of the settings was a Stereo mode, which was causing anything I tried to play mix down to stereo. Aha! So, I could toggle that off and actually get to the audio track I wanted.
BUT, since native Mac OS X does not read .ac3, my workaround is to again use ffmpeg to convert the .ac3 file to a .aac:
    ffmpeg -i audio.ac3 -acodec ac3 -ab 512k audio.aac
Since the source AC3 file was 448kb/s, I just manually chose 512k as the conversion rate, so it shouldn't lose too much quality. That value can be changed to decrease file size.
The end result, "audio.aac", is now a 6 channel 5.1 audio file. You can open it in QuickTime, and go to Window->Show Movie Properties then select the "Sound Track" track, and the "Audio Settings" tab of that track, and you will see tracks 1-6 (Left, Center, Right, etc.). You can toggle the tracks off to get to the one you want (in my case, just Center).
From there you could export this out to a file with just the track you selected, or drag the .aac file in to Final Cut Express.
If you drag in to Final Cut Express, you will see it takes up five audio tracks. I drug this under the original imported video track, and was able to mute the ones I did not need. I also found I could unlock the audio from the video, and then delete the ones I didn't want, just to clean up the edit window a bit.
The end result is now I can import the AVCHD file in to Final Cut Express, and bring in this converted AAC under the video to access just the center audio I wanted.
When I have time to streamline this process a bit more, I will update this topic.

  • Audio bleeding to center channel from left main on X-fi Elite

Erg! I was testing to see if I would like the x-fi as a pre/pro for about a week now. I?have been using the digital out since?I got the card an?it was working great for some time.. Now, using the analog outs, the center channel doesn't work and left ch. bleeds into the center. In the THX setup, If I play noise to the center nothing happens but play the left main it comes out of the left and center. I have the x-fi feeding into the Ext-Decoder source of my denon so its basically just being used as an amp. X-fi is configured to internal decoders with 5.. All the features are off for debugging(crystalizer,3D, ect..).
I fired up the THX optimizer in the Cars dvd to test DD and DTS and same result(theatertek, windvd8). It does the test tone for each speaker and when it gets to the left main it also comes out of the center. When it sends test tone to center speaker nothing plays. Its like my cables were crossed (somehow )
I switched the settings over to 4. in x-fi and it properly sends center ch. to left and right mains.
    Am I missing a step?
I made sure control panel was synchronized to X-fi just in case. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers and s/w (XP).
Maybe my card went bad ? its only been 5 monthsAny ideas what to look into?I have been searching for a long time now and couldn't find anything on creative or avs. Thanks for the help!

?Update: Well, i figured out it is wired correctly because if I go into "gaming mode" it works properly. I have the problem when in entertainment mode or audio creation mode. I tried to replicate all the settings in the gaming mode into entertainment mode but still no go.. Update 2: I uninstalled all x-fi sofware and took out anything in the registry. After reinstalling, it worked like normal. I then started fiddling and somewhere in my "fiddling" process I noticed?the sud?wasn't working anymore. What was happening before is now mirrored back to the Suroundleft/sub. So now the subwoofer is playing whatever the SL is playing and the sub channel plays nowhere. I went into Game mode and it worked untill I went into the?bass management. hmmm..

  • Center channel audio bleeding into left channel

When working on the audio mix for a project I discovered that dialogue would bleed into the left channel for some reason although the panner is set to center exclusive for that track. Can anyone else replicate this problem or can an expert chime in to confirm if this is a bug? It's definately bugging me
    EDIT I am on 2014.2

with Premiere Pro CC 2014.2, build 8.2.0, I do not have any success with the center channel isolated with the stereo or mono audio
how about a work around with using an adaptive track, then channel output map the stereo input 1 and 2 both to output 3 (center channel)
