X-Fi Elite Pro Floppy Power Connect

I need to power the Xfi Elite Pro outside of a computer to run the i/o box.
Normally the floppy dri've is connected to the 4 pin floppy dri've connection off the computer's power supply. I need something with the same connector that is not associated with a computer.
Basically I have an Xfi Elite Pro that I want to used in a Dell D/Dock Expansion. It has power via PCI connection, but does NOT have an additional floppy power connection for the external box.
I know that the floppy power is +5v/gnd/gnd/+2v.
I also looked over the X-fi details and could not find the power requirements of the connector.
What voltage does the X-fi card need? 5v? 2v? Max draw?
thanks

I could not find the information on the web or from Creative (I asked).
So I decided to experiment and cut some wires. Here are my results. The only thing hooked up from the wire coming off the power supply was the X-Fi Elite Pro. Of course the computer was powered by the remaining wires. The power supply is an Antec Phantom 500w.
Multimeter is a approximately $25-$30 radio shack variety
With the 5V rail cut and 2V rail intact
. normal operation of external i/o box
2. multimeter in line 5V rail reveals no current flow
With 2V rail cut and 5V rail intact
. external i/o box does not power up
2. still no current via 5V rail
3. dead in water
With 5V rail cut and multimeter in line with 2V rail
. normal operation
2. starting current of 270mA
3. peaks at 386-389mA (max volume really had nothing very little to do with it - hence the difference of 3mA).
I checked the voltage on the 2V rail and was quite surprised. It never changed from 2.00V, not even to .99 or 2.0V. I realize there are the limitations to my multimeter, but none the less I am impressed.
There you go, if it helps anyone else.

  • Help connect X-fi Elite Pro with DDTS-100 and Gigaworks s750

    Hi,
I purchased a brand new Gigaworks s750 speakers system, DDTS-100 decoder and X-fi Elite Pro. I connected the DDTS-100 and Elite Pro using Optical Fibre output from the audio console of X-fi Elite Pro to the optical digital input of DDTS-100. With the cables supplied with s750, I connected it to the Decoder DDTS-100. The problem is I am not getting any sound from the rear speakers and the front speakers. Only the centre speakers and the side speakers are producing sound. I could hear loud hissing sound and very very low volume of the music from the front speakers and no sound from the rear speakers. I can hear good quality sound from the centre speakers and average quality sound from the side speakers. What could possibly have gone wrong with my setup ? Somebody please help me. Thanx in advance.

    Hi Richie,
Thanq for your response. But unlike what you have mentioned, ("what may be happining is the soundcard is decoding the signal and then the ddts is trying to decode it with disatrous results"), In my setup the signal is not getting decoded two times, once by Soundcard and once by the DDTS-100. As I have mentioned that I am taking out an Optical Signal from the sound card to the DDTS-100, the signal comming out from the sound card to the DDTS is Encoded signal only. So there doesnt arise a chance that the signal is getting decoded twice. Can you think of any other reason why my setup is not working? Please let me know.
    regards,

  • X-Fi Elite Pro: onboard SPDIF In

    <SPAN>Hello together,
<SPAN><SPAN>till yesterday I used an audigy player card in my PC. I use stereo speaker as output in combination with a headset including a micro. On the onboard SPDIF input connector on the audigy board are a SAT-Card from TechnoTrend connected. I use the SPDIF connection for the sound from the SAT-Card because the quality is much better then as an analog connection between SAT- and Sound-Card. This works pretty fine.
<SPAN><SPAN>Now I have installed my new X-Fi Elite Pro. I connect my speaker and headset/micro like before. This works fine. But I found no possibility to connect my SAT-Card directly via SPDIF to the X-Fi Elite Pro. There is only a connector for an analog input on the board from the X-Fi Elite Pro. How need this?
<SPAN><SPAN>If there a possibility to connect the cards directly like before with the audigy? Or I have to go with an cable from the internal SAT-Card outside to the PC an then to the I/O Console to bring the SPDIF signal return in the PC to the X-Fi Elite Pro? I don?t know if this possible but the idea looks a little bit ?stupid? or complicate.
<SPAN><SPAN>I hope there is somewhere on the board from the X-Fi Elite Pro the possibility to connect the SPDIF signal.

  • X-FI Elite Pro, is the floppy power connector only needed if using the external box?

I know there is not a lot of chances of getting a reply but I thought I would ask since I just scored the card only for $28 shipped.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
just thought I'd jump on the band wagon on this one for some advice.
I have installed a X-FI Elite Pro in my PC running Vista Ultimate (not dual boot) and have some issues.
. My External box seems dead, the remote will not elicit any lights from it at all. I know the remote is fine because my other PC running Audigy ZS2 Pro's external box goes out in sympathy. Is there an issue with the Entertainment Centre Application, which seems absent from my install. Also When I try to install the app I get the "No IR Devices installed error".
I understand there are issues with Vista and Drivers.
    2. There are about several different ways to set up for 7. speakers and I am runnoing Gigaworks 7.. The problem I am having here is I'm not getting surround sound. In one setup for speakers each speaker identifies correctly, but in most I do not get sound from rear speakers, and in another I don't get side speakers or rear. It seems they are mapping to front and centres, this also refers to the Sub. Running the Creative Diagnostic reports no errors, yet even it incorrectly identifies the speakers. The system was running fine on my other PC with Audigy ZS2 Pro. How can I resolve this one?
I really want to give Vista a run before scrapping the whole lot and going back to XP.

  • X-fi elite pro phono connect

I am a new user and I have an Elite Pro and the problem I am having is when I have a Phono hooked up to my standalone mod and I am listening to it the sound is very week and coming out of one speaker mostly it was sounding good and I tried to hook up a television to the inputs and I found that it was the TV audio inputs I was trying to connect to the AUX inputs on the Mod, hence no sound. LOL guess I should have checked it out better and so now I hook my phono rca jacks back up and preamp off of coarse and then the terrible sound I have checked all. Onboard sound is off in BIOS and AUX/phono 2 is unchecked in windows but cant quite understand the prob could anyone shed some light? Asus A8n32-sli board I gig ram, AMD 64 X2 3800+ Windows xp home. • Yoga 3 pro cant restart without power connected.

I am hoping to get my problem solved because i am abroad.
Aftes the y3p goes to sleep or is **bleep** down mostly in some hours it can only be restarted with power connected (and that feature is not enabled in OkO). When it is up again the battery show the charge as when it was closed down.
If i sent it to sleep and restart it seems ok.
I have upgrade bios and try to recover.
Earlier when got the machine the battery status shows Strange value.
    Hope somebody can help.

A better description of the problem is:
    1. In any mode it could suddenly shut down (power save, balanced, high performance).
    2. Sometimes the sleep function and normal shut-down/up works, and I can restart without problem.
    3. But many times it can’t boot without connecting the power supply (and that is without enable that special feature in OKO). Especially if it stands some hours it wont boot.
    4. When rebooting with power supply, the battery status show 0% after a while 100% (even the battery when it was shut down was ex. 65)….after a while the status show 65% again.
All in all I haven’t used in longer time because the problem are very annoying, and unacceptable.
I tried to make factory recovery and upgrade the bios.
Later on after some full recovery actions it is now changed a little from before. Point 1-3 is still the same, but now the battery always shows the same status as when it was shut-down, put on sleep etc. but still power connections is mostly needed before it reboots.
Sadly it seem like nobody have similar problems and Lenovo can't give some advise/help, maybe it is just a defect machine.
    Thanks.

  • X-Fi Elite PRO and Vista: dropouts and no sound. Only Changing mode in Audio-Console helps

Hi... Please help me. I have an X-Fi Elite Pro and I am experiencing a very strange problem in Vista 32. Before using Vista, I had no problems at all in XP. Sometimes when I listen to the music (Winamp) and then after listening the music start watching movie, the sound dissappears. I mean the EQ of Winamp freezes and there is no sound at all
!!! Only if I switch audio-console (in Configuration menu) to Games mode (or an other one) and back, the sound comes back... Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. It is very strange. Please, do you know a solution for that?!

In no way a 300W Power Supply has enough power for all your stuff.
2 HDD's, a power-hungry Pentium, a xfi card, dvd burner and many other stuff ...
Problems like this can happen then if your power supply has not enough power to handle all this stuff.
Get a better powersupply that can handle your stuff and I am sure it will work again. In a few cases its also possible that YOU damage your hardware on this way, if it can not get enough stable power, it might mess up your hardware. I also already blowed up a harddisk one day because I have connected too much stuff to one cable. I had 3 HDD's, Mainboard, Lights, Fans and DVD connected to one single cable. All devices there did not get enough power, harddisks made crazy sounds (on/off/on/off very fast) and after that one of my HDDs was bad.
But no ... you can't blame anyone for this. In 99% a bad power supply should not damagae your hardware, it will just make sure it does not work anymore. Since you installed that hardware, YOU are responsible for this. If a hardware-dealer would have to install this card for you, it would be his fault, but now its yours.
BTW: Why do you expect that a 300W suppy is enough!? I mean really ... think about it! See what todays PS can do, take a look how much your pentium already needs ... There are at least 00W gone for your CPU, another 00 for your Videocard and just 00 left for ALLLL the other devices like your harddisks (20-30W each one), DVD, mainboard, soundcard ... In no way this will be enough. You must have missed the last 5 years ...
BTW: I don't think that the software audio console would not work when not having connected the y-power cable. I forget that cable too one time. My console did still work, just in games I got some strange problems a lot of times (no more sound for -2 minutes, crackling and other poroblems) which got solved after I plugged in the power-cable to soundcard.Message Edited by Homey-GER on 0-7-200705:42 AM

  • X-Fi Elite Pro: Can't Insert FX with 96 kHz Sampling Rate

    Hi Daniel,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. Here are my hardware specs:
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0G
    Motherboard: Foxconn <FONT face=Arial>NF4SK8AA-8KRS NF4SLI
Memory: WINTEC AMPO 52MB 84-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered (2GB total)
Power Supply: COOLMAX CW-650T (650 watt, SLI capable)
    Floppy Dri've: MITSUMI .44MB
Video Card: (2) GE Force 6800XT running in SLI
Before I attempted to install the X-FI Elite Pro, I did have a problem getting the video card to work, but I found that the solution to that was to change the voltage setting on the power supply. After I solved this problem, I tried to install the soundcard, which as you can see has opened up a new issue.
The beeps are constant, and the computer looks like it is attempting to reboot with each beep.
I'm not sure what the power supply is rated for. What do you mean by that? I know it's SLI capable whatever that means.
I'm not sure if the BIOS has power settings for the PCI bus. If it does, do you recommend a particular setting?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and Elite Pro SPDIF/Digital input probs

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and I specifically bought it for a new Rode mic I've just got and it needed phantom power. I also paid a little extra for the digital 'outs', thinking I could take an optic or SPDIF out into the Elite Pro breakout box. The problem is, is that digital is not recognised at all - in Audio Codes it states it's an invalid signal. However, SPDIF is recognised saying it's a stereo signal at 48,000hz, but is only being 'heard' in my right channel.
I have tried the line out into Line In 3, and there's no problem there. Joe Meek representative said it should be working as long as the bit match is the same in both units, which as far as I know is. Am I missing something here? I'm awaiting Creative to get back as it seems to me to be a breakout-box hardware problem, but I could be missing something?
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice/info?
    Thanks in advance

Well, since you're not getting response, let me see what I can do.
I think you're saying the optical connection isn't working, but the coax (SPDIF) one is working, and then you're only getting the mic signal on one channel. The second part is easy to explain, but I never remember the solution suggestions. TOSLink/SPDIF, essentially, are stereo signals, and your preamp is simply putting its channel 1 signal on one side and its channel 2 signal on the other. If you had a second mic connected to the other connector, you'd have one mic on the left channel and the other on the right channel. Basically, you need to treat it as a mono signal and then either pan it into the stereo field, or just duplicate (convert) it to stereo. I'm sure there are ways, but someone else needs to join in with some experience. I'm not sure, but it seems to me if, say, you've put the mic in the channel 1 connector, you could take the channel 1 (analog) output and patch it into the channel 2 line input, and your digital outputs would probably get you the mic signal on both sides.
On both devices, the TOSLink/SPDIF signals are, to the best of my understanding, basically the same thing in two forms. If one is working, than the other should be working too. That suggests to me either hardware brokenness in the preamp's optical out, or the Elite Pro's optical in. or a problem with the optical cable. CL's optical outs can be checked to see if they are putting out red light: if they aren't, there's a problem. That probably applies to the preamp, in this case. You can simply connect the Elite Pro's optical output to its optical input and record something from the digital input device. If that works, the cable and the digital input are probably OK, and it most likely the preamp's digital output is broken (although it could be a strange compatibility issue). If it fails, then it's most likely either a bad cable, or the Elite Pro's optical input is broken. Trying another cable, or some other piece of gear you have that outputs optical, ought to sort out which it is.

  • Power connections to

    Hi,
I have an XFi Fataity Platinum and would like some advice on the power connections.
The installation sheet is a bit vague, but I think it says that the 4-pin connector on the rear edge needs to be connected to the computer's PSU so that voltage is available to be sent down the ribbon cable to the control box.
But I have found that with just the ribbon cable connected and nothing else, the control box works - at least as the mic and phone sockets and volume controls work OK.
So do I really need the 4-pin connector to be powered, or is the card getting all the power it needs from its mother board connector?

The power connector on the card is only used if you have the external I/O console (from the X-Fi Elite Pro kit), that console doesn't have a seperate power connection. The internal dri've has it's own power connector, and the card itself gets power through the slot (it doesn't require extra power).
So if you don't have that external I/O console, you don't need to connect power to the card.

that is suggesting to me either your PSU is failing, or it is a Poor PSU with over-optimistic amp ratings (eg Q-Tec). it will all appear to work fine on your older board, as that has lower power requirements, have a look in my sticky Is your problem caused by your PSU? for more info and advice.
