As soon as I install any form of the drivers, the next time my computer starts, I hear a 'click' in the X-Fi, and the computer hangs indefinately with the HDD light on.Any help is greatly appreciated - completely unusable right now

Well after spending over a week and probably 20 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue I am about to give up. Thanks to those who have tried to help.
Current status is I have a fresh install of WIndows, no software installed whatsoeve other than the X-Fi software. I have been able to get my X-Fi to power on. It may even work for a little while.
However, without fail, eventually my system will lock up, sometimes producing a high pitched screech, other times BSOD and restarting (and then BSOD -3 more times while trying to boot).
It's just not worth it to spend this much time trying to get it to work.
If anyone has any additional helpfup information I would be most appreciati've. Thank you.
Again relevant system info
Nforce2, with AMD chipset - Geforce4 4200, XP service pack 2. I have disabled my onboard audio.
THanks again

  • High pitched noise and 13' MacBook Pro (2010) not working at all

A few nights ago my computer starting making a high pitched noise and was immediately slower (barely working at all actually) I feared it was over heating so I shut it all down and let it rest for the night, the next day I went to start it up and the noise started again and I couldnt get passed the white screen that pops up when the computer is starting.
I'm fearing the worst and thinking it might be the hard drive or something. But I thought I would see if anyone else had any thoughts or possibly something I could try.

Applejack is just a command-line "front-end" for a number of different command-line tools you can use in single-user mode, and I'm not sure whether it's Lion-compatible.  You can always try booting into single-user mode and executing:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
That's unlikely to solve your problems, though.  Since you can't boot from two different hard drives and your optical drive, that indicates there's a more serious hardware issue, or multiple hardware issues.

  • WRVS4400N makes high pitched screech

As subject my WRVS4400N emits a high pitched screeching noise constantly (unless powered off).  Does anyone else experience this?
I'm assuming it is down to hardware - can anyone offer a quick fix or is it an RMA?

If it is emitting a high pitched screeching noise constantly I believe it is a hardware problem. I think it will be better to call there tech support so that it will be replace it if it still under warranty.

  • High pitch screech when LAN is transfering data over network

I found this strange.  But whenever data (large amounts) is sent through my puter over the network, the LAN chip or whatever makes a high pitch sound.  What is with this?

Firewall enabled and for example opening a torrent with more than 100 peers made the northbridge screech and  crashed the network after five minutes. Disabling the firewall helped a bit, removed the screeching atleast, but it's still lagging behind my old AT7-MAX2(VIA KT400) onboard LAN in 'performance'.

  • High pitch whine and FireWire bus power

    Delighted with my MBP!
Just noticed the high pitch whine today when I set it up in a quieter room and plugged it into an IOGear bus-powered FireWire hub shared with my other Mac.
It was around 8000 hz and loud enough that I could not stand to stay in the room with it.
When I unplugged it from the hub and connected the cable directly to the FW port, the whine was greatly attenuated (I could hear it only by putting my ear next to the vents at the top of the keyboard).
Could the problem be related to powering the FireWire bus? (It reminds me of the sound of a switching power supply or DC-DC converter) Has anyone else had any success in finding ways to attenuate this high pitch tone?
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   7200 rpm

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really trying to cut down on the number of devices that I leave plugged into the mains, so would ideally like a solution that relies purely on power supplied by the internal bus.
I've had a bit of progress with my current set-up. I've switched to using a 2 headed USB lead that came with my Hard Drive. This does mean I effectively lose a USB socket, but it appears that the Hard Drive + the Webcam can now live happily together.
It just means that I have to swap the 4th USB port for whatever ad-hoc device I need to use at the time rather than leaving things connected to it.
Out of geeky curiosity, I'd still be interested to know whether the USB and Firewire buses share their power or each have a dedicated amount.
    Cheers,
    Ian

  • X-Fi Fatality Pro High-Pitched Speaker Noise, No Sound or Tinny Sound Win

Hi all,?Perhaps this is premature but... I've had the X-Fi FPS for about three weeks now and everything was working fine until about a week ago. Here's the problem: Upon cold start of loading?XP there is either no sound and/or high-pitched noise coming from my 2. speakers, or just horrible tinny sound with the volume cranked. If I reboot, sound works perfectly. If I do another reboot, the sound will resort back to the noise/tin, etc. or perhaps it might be ok. Same issue with the?IO?card. I've reinstalled the drivers, but that didn't help the problem. Currently in PCI slot 3... I haven't moved it to 4 but will do so tonight and do a clean install of the software. I was cleaning out the dust from the internals and used a "Dust-Off" type product inside of the case...is it possible that the card "froze" and is now itself unstable? I've run the creative diagnostics and says everything is fine. Perahps it's just a system?issue. I plan on doing a full system wipeout and reinstall as well but wanted to see if?this situation is a known issue. -Dell XPS Gen 2-3.2ghz; 2gig Ram-ATI 9800XT (AGP, also takes up PCI slot )-Linksys Wireless G Network card (PCI slot 2)-X-Fi (PCI Slot 3)-Ultra Firewire card (PCI slot 4)-SATA HDs-LITE-ON? • Airport Extreme - high pitched noise and no function

    Hi all
My Airport extreme stopped working last night and just now emits a high pitched noise when the power is connected and there are no lights on the front (amber or green)
Has anyone else had this happen to them and is there any way to solve this without taking it back? Have only had this approximately 2 months.
Any help would be gratefully received!

    Hi falloutphil,
When I bought my iMac, I had the store install more ram for me. It would restart all by itself. Then it would shut off. I can't remember a noise but after I was on the phone with apple tech, he wanted me to drop off the mac at a apple dealership. If you bought ram from someone else other than apple, it needs to be pushed in a little bit further. When you swing the two white thingys closed, push the ram in just a little bit. Before you do that, run the apple hardware test. I bought my iMac from JR's and when I reviewed the system log, the hardware test failed and they still sent it to me anyway. this just happened in July. My iMac has been running beautiful since then. but I will never buy anything from JR's store again.

  • Help connect X-fi Elite Pro with DDTS-100 and Gigaworks s750

    Hi,
I purchased a brand new Gigaworks s750 speakers system, DDTS-100 decoder and X-fi Elite Pro. I connected the DDTS-100 and Elite Pro using Optical Fibre output from the audio console of X-fi Elite Pro to the optical digital input of DDTS-100. With the cables supplied with s750, I connected it to the Decoder DDTS-100. The problem is I am not getting any sound from the rear speakers and the front speakers. Only the centre speakers and the side speakers are producing sound. I could hear loud hissing sound and very very low volume of the music from the front speakers and no sound from the rear speakers. I can hear good quality sound from the centre speakers and average quality sound from the side speakers. What could possibly have gone wrong with my setup ? Somebody please help me. Thanx in advance.

    Hi Richie,
Thanq for your response. But unlike what you have mentioned, ("what may be happining is the soundcard is decoding the signal and then the ddts is trying to decode it with disatrous results"), In my setup the signal is not getting decoded two times, once by Soundcard and once by the DDTS-100. As I have mentioned that I am taking out an Optical Signal from the sound card to the DDTS-100, the signal comming out from the sound card to the DDTS is Encoded signal only. So there doesnt arise a chance that the signal is getting decoded twice. Can you think of any other reason why my setup is not working? Please let me know.
    regards,
    Rahul M

  • HP 4M high pitched noise and burning smell

Last night during a slow print job of PDFs the printer started making (adding) a high pitched noise during the actual printing of pages, and I got a slight whiff of something burning.  The pages printed correctly and without any apparent mechanical problem or delay.  Any ideas what to look for?  Thanks,

    Thanks genegold99,
Yea, I'm not too familiar with laserjet products - Inkjet would be the area I'm involved in
I've looked up the LJ 4M troubleshooting page...
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972...
...but I don't see anything specifically related to the issue you've described.
I think the 4M is now discontinued, but if there are any LJ experts out there, feel free to respond with more inputs.

  • High pitched crackling and scraping sound when playing videos

I just got a video iPod, loaded a couple of TV shows that I bought through iTunes, and tried to play them. I get a loud, high pitched electronic crackling and scraping sound during playback. The music I louded plays perfectly, so what is the problem here?

Thanks. I'm planning to go there this morning. I just bought it yesterday, so they need to take care of it. I did try reloading the videos, but with the same result.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro with constant beeping and crashing

    Hi creative
I would like to make a enquiry with regards to a issue I have come across for the past few weeks. I have a custom build pc running at home with a Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro sound card. This machine has been build since 2007 and all as been fine up until now. I have noticed that when playing audio and listening to music the machine crashes all of a sudden and there is a constant beep coming out the machine which requires me to hard reset the machine to return to normal. I have reinstalled the OS to rule out any windows Audio drivers, device drivers, software issues and failure with the OS, but this only lasted a few weeks and this problem has re-appeared and is ntermittent and very frustrating. I would like to know the route the of intermittent issue and the possible causes around it and what I have to do push forward apart from changing the sound card, it would be nice to know the proper answer to the cause of the issue. Any ideas could it be the capacitors on the card?

So with your 65 whopping posts, what exactly do you think you are contributing to this forum? The user has a Sound Blaster-branded sound card, so in my opinion, he is in the "correct" section.

  • High Pitched Sound and now the hanging

    Hi
Since I bought my Mac, it has from time to time generated a high pitched sound (just soft enough to not drive me totally crazy).
Recently I noticed that this sometimes goes together with my machine hanging. As soon as the sound stops then the hanging stops. It does not always hang when there is a sound, but there is always a sound when it hangs.
Is this something I need to get checked out? or is there something I can do about it?
    Please help

  • High pitched screeching noise!  Driving me nuts!

I've searched the questions and can't seem to find an answer after wading through several pages. BTW I'm new to MAC so need a "dummies" answer please. I have an iMac - 2007 and if have to keep the volume turned off at all times (unless I'm listening to music) because every time it makes a "normal" sound like sending mail - it screeches for about 15 seconds. My poor dog keeps shaking her head and I want to scream myself. It's done this for probably a year now, I've learned to live with it, but there has GOT to be a way to fix this? I have no clue where the noise comes from or how to get rid of it. Any idea would be appreciated!
I did upgrade to snow leopard, but that hasn't changed the problem at all (didn't think it would but there is always hope right?).
    Thank You
    Gayle

As you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, you must have an Intel-based iMac. This forum is for the older G4 iMacs with the articulated display arm and a dome-shaped base.
Suggest you repost in the Intel iMAc forums here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
Don't worry about misposting. The labeling for this forum is dismal and lots of people with your model are drawn here by the generic forum description; basically, all iMacs since the very first ones are "flat panel," so the wording was poorly chosen.

  • High pitch beeeeep and flashing 'on' button when...

    Hi everyone,
Our old iMac is having problems (again). Unfortunately I can't give any specs because I can't get in. It's a G3 Blue Rev a, with OS 9 and X. We've taken off X a long time ago because it was too confusing for the poor thing.
Anyway, I locks up. All the time. When I restart with Extensions Off or with Zap the Pram commands there's a fierce loud beep and then the on/off button flashes. Then the machine starts up. The progessive starting -up bar moves maybe an inch, if that, and I get one icon to show on the bottom of the screen. Then it locks up solid, cannot even do a Force Quit.
Last year we gave it a new hard drive and battery and it was happy for a while. Any suggestions?
    Marjon

Do you still have the OS X install disks? You said you tried installing OS X before, but that it was too confusing.
Given that your processor speed is 600MHz, and that you have 768MB RAM, OS X should run extremely well. What version of OS X did you try to install?
Personally, I would ditch Mac OS 9. OS X is way better, and your computer sounds like it's capable of running it very well.
Regarding OS 9, however, the pop-up you got stating that the computer contained the active system software sounds like the computer booted from the install CD.
Since you removed the CD, you removed the system the computer had booted from, and that's probably why you couldn't get into the control panels or chooser.
My guess of 233MHz was based on the fact that you stated that you had a blue Rev/A iMac. The Rev/A iMacs shipped originally with a speed of 233 MHz. Either your computer is in fact not a Rev/A iMac, or there has been a processer upgrade. A 600MHz iMac is grey, flower power, or blue dalmation.
Mac OS 9 also has more freeze-ups than Mac OS X. I think that in all the years I've had a computer with Mac OS X, it's only frozen up about 5 times that count (others had to do with a bad logic board; one of my computers is an eMac...). While using Mac OS 9, I have had more freeze-ups than I can count. So your system could be part of the freeze-up problem.
Try re-installing OS 9 again, and then without taking the install disk out, go to the control panel and choose the internal startup disk and restart.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 and Blu Ray

If I buy an external Blu Ray burner can I burn Blu Ray wedding videos from DVD Studio Pro or do I have to use Toast 9/10?

I want to stick with FCS but need the blue ray option.< </div>
We just don't have a solid grasp of complex BD production around here because this is the Final Cut forum. We've got some dabblers who, you've seen, have contradictory suggestions and their ability to asssit you is limited by their experience and your needs. If you're patient enough, some experts will drop by. But I wouldn't count on it.
If you need sophisticated BD output, you want to hire a BD shop. The economics might not appear to be rational until you evaluate what you will pay yourself to learn a new programming/authoring tool and buy a BD burner.
"Not being to go out for replication" implies the file structure from Encore or Toast is not compatible with the needs of the big duplication houses. You'd want to work with them carefully if you need their services.
