  • Surround Mix with Logitech Z-5500 Digital

    Hello,
I have a project for a 3D animation short movie, and I'll also make the score and sound effect for it, to make a DVD.
I don't have Logic Pro yet; I have Logic Express.
Is it possible to use a Logitech Z-5500 Digital set to do the surround mix with Logic Pro ? Using the optical digital out ?
I have a very limited budget, so I'm looking for the cheapest solution possible, with the best possible sound.
I'm waiting for a Mac Pro 2.66 with an ATI graphic cards (for Motion and 3D).
    Thanks.

can't you pick the surround soundtrack in the control bar that is displayed close to the bottom of the movie window when you start one in iTunes? If theres no surround track, it cannot be done, furthermore, the speakers must be run from a surround home theatre receiver. Messing around with it on one of my desktops, I can choose the surround channel, but since it only has 2 built in speakers, I obviously won't get 5.1 (L/R front, center, L/R rear, and subwoofer). I agree iTunes should have preference that surround is automatically decoded when a surround track is available much like it's a preference in DVD player. I still haven't figured that one out.

  • Use Logitech Z-5500 Digital

Is it possible to use the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 soundspeakers with the iMac? I'm planning to buy one but I wanna be sure that I can use the soundspeakers.
    Thank you.

This thread might be a little old, but i'll still respond to it anyways. I just recently purchased the logitech z-5500 speakers from Dell, and it came in the next day. The iMac, at least the new ones, have a optical output (the headphone jack) and the z-5500 have a optical input. So I bought these two items and I was set for 5.1 digital surround sound!!

  • XFI Elite Pro to Inspire 5500 speakers, no rear so

I have an xFI Elite Pro and some Inspire 5500 Digital Surround Sound speakers. If I initiate a test from the remote that controls the Speaker's "brain" I get all surround points working just fine, so I know they are connected properly from there. From the "brain" I have the /8th" cable that came with the speakers for a digital connection to a soundcard connected to the flexjack on the back of the soundcard part of the xFI and it is set to Digital I/O. Whenever I initiate a test from the Creative Software, when it says "rear right" and "rear left", it comes out the front speakers. I have the CMSS turned off . I have the decoding turned off on the sound card cause the speakers take care of the decoding. What am I doing wrong? Please help, thanks.

    Well,
I went back to gigabyte.com.tw and this time, there were new BIOS available ... I still don't understand why they weren't there yesterday ..
Anyway, I updated to F6 (latest version) and ... sound is still very low, crappy, crackkkkking and so on ..
I'm gonna throw this through the window :'(

  • Audigy 2 zs to Logitech z-5500 digita

    can't get digital connection:
    this is what i bought:
Radio shack gold series PCM Digital Audio Cable
radio shack Stereo to mono audio adapter
    this is what i've done:
    Set to digital only
played a digital cd with the cd rom connected to the digital in port on the sound card
all i get is a the z-5500 telling me "No Digital Data"
    please help!
i'm also having a problem with major distortion via clicking popping cracking, you name it i've got it, i did a headphone test and it seems it's coming from the 3rd audio out port
and i have all updates, i've redone my comp and reinstalled everything audio, problem persists. does it sound like i have to move on to a new card or what?
    thanks for any help!

Yep, this is wonderfull and anybody that has a receiver with 5. analog inputs allready knows how to connect it. All the problems that apear on this forum is because the average receiver (that costs under 2-300$) DOESN'T have analog 5. inputs so people cannot have surround sound in games...

  • Anyone using Logitech Z-5500 Digital with DDTS-100?

Topic pretty much says it all.
    What are your experiences?

It is now on "6 Ch Direct", but there`s still no good sound from the center and rear speakers. Do I need to change the sound blaster, because when I play with its software the sound is always different?

  • Logitech Z-5500 + Audigy 2 ZS = DIGITAL PROBLEM

Today I buy Logitech Z-5500 Digital, i have Audigy 2 ZS clasic
I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM I CANNOT CONECT THE SPEAKER WITH optical cabel.
WHY ? HELP ME PLEASE !!!!
I buy Optical TOSLINK gold cabel and conet him to sound card, and to the Digital SoundTouch? Control Center, then turn on, and do nothing the control center will not detect the conection over optical cabel.
on display its this: Input: DIRECT 96-24
i dont know what do ?
its reqaied a special conector cable to the audigy or what ?
( i enable in windows all digital conection )
( maybe its wrong the conector on sound card, or in sound control center, i buy 3 others cables and nothing )
PS: sorry for me english its not main language i from slovakia

You say you have the Direct input selected? That's the wrong one. There is a button on the remote that says "Optical" you need to press to switch to optical input.
You are using the optical output on the Audigy dri've bay aren't you? The digital output on the back of the Audigy soundcard is not an optical output, it's for digital coax.

  • Elite Pro and vista, creative console resets after ever reb

So, I've given up trying to search for the answer and I have no clue how to go about fixing this problem.
If I boot into visata 32 Ultimate, and go and setup my audio console the way I like it then reboot, it will reset itself to defaults when I boot back into windows.
basically its not saving my configuration. Why does this happen and how can I fix this? It doesn't sound the same as the Digital output resetting itself. I have the latest drivers installed on a clean slate...why does this still happen?
    its friggen annoying!

yep , i see they are supported, the same is mentioned on the drivers download page,
it states that DTS has been re enabled on devices that supported it on XP when they were originally released.
so i have the elite pro, wich supported dd and dts, and still i get no sound form any dvd in dts or even sound from my PS3 input via optical to the external I/0 of the elite pro.
and i have been told that i would need to buy the dts pack.
why ? when i already paid ?250 for the card that supported it from the moment i bought it ?
dts input support was one of the reasons i bought this card in the first place.
i might as well sell this and use my onboard optical output and buy an amplifier that supports dts, at least then ill know that there are no drivers/support problems
?creative you might make the best sound cards out there but that alone only gets you half way there. us customers we need support and value for our money?
not u trying to rip us off

  • Help connect X-fi Elite Pro with DDTS-100 and Gigaworks s750

    Hi,
I purchased a brand new Gigaworks s750 speakers system, DDTS-100 decoder and X-fi Elite Pro. I connected the DDTS-100 and Elite Pro using Optical Fibre output from the audio console of X-fi Elite Pro to the optical digital input of DDTS-100. With the cables supplied with s750, I connected it to the Decoder DDTS-100. The problem is I am not getting any sound from the rear speakers and the front speakers. Only the centre speakers and the side speakers are producing sound. I could hear loud hissing sound and very very low volume of the music from the front speakers and no sound from the rear speakers. I can hear good quality sound from the centre speakers and average quality sound from the side speakers. What could possibly have gone wrong with my setup ? Somebody please help me. Thanx in advance.

    Hi Richie,
Thanq for your response. But unlike what you have mentioned, ("what may be happining is the soundcard is decoding the signal and then the ddts is trying to decode it with disatrous results"), In my setup the signal is not getting decoded two times, once by Soundcard and once by the DDTS-100. As I have mentioned that I am taking out an Optical Signal from the sound card to the DDTS-100, the signal comming out from the sound card to the DDTS is Encoded signal only. So there doesnt arise a chance that the signal is getting decoded twice. Can you think of any other reason why my setup is not working? Please let me know.
    regards,
    Rahul M

  • Need a 5.1 Sound Card to run with my Logitech Z-5500 speaker sys

    Hi everyone,
I would to pick your brains a little please
I have got the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5. Speaker System.
I would like to purchase a sound card to run with the system but was unsure on what card to get. I obviously need a 5. card, right? So will I need an X-FI or an Audigy? This is where I am getting confused, I got told that the X-FI's are 7. and the Audigy's are 5., I'm not sure if this is true?
Would someone be able to recommend a compatible card please? I have a budget of about ?00 (GBP) or 'about' $90 (USD).
I would like a card that's good for music, games and to watch movies.
Any replies would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advanced,
    Tulsi

    My fault Catherina, sorry.
Jo6Pak - Thx for your reply and suggestions.
Reihead - Thx again for yours too and your right, those speakers deserve a quality card.
I've got some good news One of my friends has the X-FI Extreme Music card and has let me borrow it in exchange to borrow my PS2 lol just so I can test it out. The good news is that it seems to work!
So far there has been no issues with the card what so ever! I was quite surprised after reading other users comments about the crackling and popping issues with mainly the nForce 4 chipset mobos.
The sound is awesome compared to before Just played Counter Strike for a while to test things out and WOW!!! No issues just quality sound! If I don't get issues with the card, I'll buy it, definitely worth it.
I do have about half of my services disabled and have some personal reg tweaks n things. Maybe that's a benefit. Could also be the x64 bit version of Windows... who knows!
Still early days... I 'could' still get crackling and popping sounds after a while, only time will tell.
I will keep this thread updated with my progress or non progress lol.
    Thanks

  • Logitech Z-5500

    Hi there!
How can I connect my fifth gen video ipod to Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 speakers?
    cheers

The same way you would connect them to a computer...
Based on pictures I can see, I would say that the audio input jack is on the back of the controller (Thing with screen and silver knob) Plug a cable into the far left Jack on the back of the controller into the headphones port on your iPod with a patch cable (Probably a cable with a green plug that came with the speakers) Note that the iPod doesn't give off surround sound through the headphones jack so it will only play out of the two front speakers.

  • Connecting sb2 audigy zs (not platinum or pro) digital output to logitech z-5500 speak

anyone ever try to use the digital out port on the sound card to connect to a set of speakers that had a coxial input? i have a theory on buying a digital cable and go to radio shack and buy a mono plug.. but will that work? is that compatible?
    thanks

i currently have the 5 year old FPS 2000 cambridge soundworks digital speakers. i currently use the digital out on my augidy 2 zs, with the digital in adapter to connect to the speakers. (http://us.creative.com/products/prod...0&product=0375)
i am planning on purchasing the logitech z-5500 and have been reading on these boards that i can get the (http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=42%2D2444) digital out minijack to digital out rca jack that the logitech speakers accept.
you wrote about the limitations of using this digital connection - would the limitations be exactly the same that i currently have (using the digital out to the fps 2000) or would this be a more limiting configuration?

  • Help with Optical Audio, w/X-Fi Elite Pro, and Logitech Z-5

    Hi,
I need help with optical audio on my X-Fi Elite Pro, and Logitech Z-5500 speakers. I have everything connected, and sound comes out, but NO 5. Surround. This is pissing me off beyond belief. I have it all connected, and set to 5. Surround, and on my Logitech's I have it set to opical in, and have tried ALL effects, stereo, strereo 2x,[Dolby Sign] PL II Movie, [Dolby Sign] PL II Music. I have tried the sound card set for an external decoder, and the sound cards' decoder, and tried both with all optical settings on the sound card. It doesn't give me surround with optical... And I would REALLY appreciate help.
My drivers are up to date.
    Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!

Except if you send DD/DTS multichannel sound to your receiver, you'll not have surround sound with digital connection. did you read the stikies?

  • X-Fi Elite Pro and Logitech Z-5500D Speaker se

    Hi everybody,
I know there are many threads about the X-Fi and the Logitech Z-5500D but reading all these discussions didn't clarify some things for me.
My first question is: I'm a music lover.. from Classical to Shakira what are the best settings for the X-Fi Elite Pro in conjunction with the Z5500D speakers? I like a normal bass level not the boomy one which has the Logitech by nature.. and a natural sound.
My second question: I have a Xbox360, a DVD player and a Mediacenter 2005 PC (which contains the X-Fi). The Xbox360 and the DVD player are having a Toslink Optical out, but the Z5500D has only one Toslink Optical in, are there any Y connectors for this? or are there any optical-to-coax converters to use the coax SP/DIF connector of the Z5500D?
My last question: Is it recommended to use the normal three mini jacks on the rear of the X-fi for 5. surround out to the Z5500D or do i get better results with the Toslink or the coax out?
    Thanks in advance..
    Victor

  • Digital Audio w/Logitech Z-5500

Try as I might, I can't seem to get any digital audio out of the Mac Mini to my Logitech Z-5500 speaker system. I don't have the same problem with analog audio, just digital. It is my understanding that the combination of digital out directly from the Mini and the decoding built-in the Logitech should work ... maybe I am being a bit optimistic.
My current configuration is that I have the Mini connected directly to the Z-5500 control panel with a TOSLINK cable with the appropriate 3.5 mm adapter which I got from the Apple Store.
Here's what I tried so far with no success:
o Played several store-purchased DVDs, with known Digital Dolby and/or DTS audio tracks via Apple's DVD Player. I have also verified that the DVD Player was configured to use the "Digital Out - Built-in Output" setting for Audio output. The Z-5500 control panel shows a "No Digital Data" message. (To verify that the DVDs were good, I also played them from a Vista PC that was connected to the same Z-5500 speakers -- no problem.)
o Played music/movie sources from iTunes, knowing that I would be exercising QuickTime for audio output. Knowing that QT doesn't support digital natively, I have installed Perian. Within Perian, I have tried all the Audio Output options (Stereo, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II, & Multi-Channel). Still getting the "No Digital Data" message.
o Next I tried reconfiguring the Audio Output setting in Audio MIDI Setup. I verified the Source was set for Digital Out, and tried each of the Format combinations that were available. Still getting the "No Digital Data" message.
o Finally, I tried the com.cod3r.a52codec.plist "hack," creating a new variable named "attemptPassthrough" and setting is value to "1." Same message.
So, I must be missing something and can certainly appreciate any words of wisdom from anyone with similar experiences with the Mini and the Z-5500.
    Thanks in advance.

No problems. Any/all advice is truly appreciated.
So the PC can play audio through those speakers? That's a clue. Can you see the settings that PC is using to talk?
Yes, the PC can play any audio source (games, DVDs, Media Player, etc.) digitally to these speakers. The primary difference that I can think of is the PC employs a Creative Xi-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum PCI card which is Dolby Digital Live capable for encoding whereas I am using the encoder(s) (DVD player, Perian, etc.) on the Mini.
Did you look at the "Configure Speakers" button in Audio Midi Setup to verify that it is configured for multi-channel output?
Hmm, you may be onto something here. Yes, I did check to see that the Audio Output was set for Encoded Digital, but I didn't confirm multi-channel under Configure Speakers. Selecting this option and going to the Multichannel tab will only allow me to select "Stereo." All the other selections are grayed-out. In addition, when I do select "Encoded Digital" for Audio Output Format, both the Default & System Output windows display "Unknown device" instead of "Built-in Output."
Are those cables Apple branded? Something about the length of the mini-plug on some brands IIRC.
I believe so. I did get them directly from the online Apple Store. They're approximately 3' in length and off-white in color. Part number on the Packing List was given as: TL955LL/A and their description was: XTREMEMAC TOSLINK OPTICAL AUDIOACCS
    Thanks again!
