X-Fi Elite Pro Noise issues

Greetings,
I've had this x-Fi Elite Pro for 3 years now, and since about 6 months ago it started missbehaving like I'll describe. If the computer has been on for a long time the speaker output of the card starts making a crackling noise. Here's a phone recording of what this noise sounds like:

If I change the audio mode with the creative console or change the master sampling rate there's a chance that the noise will go away, but it's a really temporary solution as it will be back within minutes. The only prolonged solution is restarting the computer and start the cycle anew.
I would like to know if anyone has heard about this issue and if there's any known solution such as changing the capacitors, if so, which ones.
To be honest, I'm quite disappointed with the experience I had with creative's soundcards lifespans. I went through two Audigy 2 cards that developed popping noises after two years of use (fortunately got those replaced with Dell's extended warranty). My replacement, if there's no fix to it, will certainly not be a creative card. It's a shame, really, as the Elite Pro is a really good card, while it works right; I'm just not willing to spend that much money on a sound card that's likely to fail within 3 years.

The Audio Quality in Vista Ultimate 64 bit is lower than in XP and the same wave files have distortion with the low and middle-high volume (60-70).
    Problems that i have never had in XP... i cannot reinstall XP another time. I bought Vista in 2006 and i cannot use it till you'll release a good sw.

    The problem is now official: other customers have problems with some games (Pes 2008 and Crysis in particular). I'll show u the main italian hw. forum. I paid more than 400 $ for an Elite Pro and after year and 4 month i cannot install Vista 64 too for audio issues with mp3-wave files and Pes 2008 or Vista 32 bit for problems with Pes 2008. This is my latest Creative product, you can trust.

The signal from my turntable (B&O RX2) is slightly off balance with the left channel signal slightly higher than the right channel. I have attempted to use the Master Auxiliary Balance control in audio creation mode to balance the signal during recording. Unfortunatly I have not been able to make it work as adjusting the balance control has no impact on the recorded signal. I have worked with Creative and to date they have not provided a working solution.   • Mac Pro Noise Issue !

    Hello everyone ! I've been hearing a noise coming from my 1st gen original mac pro for the last couple of days.It all started after I put my rams in a different riser.
    First I realized that my 5Gb total ram size seemed 2Gb in the "about this mac" section.I thought that it is beacouse of having all my rams(2x512 Mb stock and 2x2 Gb OWC) on the same riser,Riser A.
    I rearranged them according to the mac pro specs.I put 2x512 Mb on dimm 1&2 / Riser A and 2x2 Gb on dimm 1&2 / Riser B.I also cleaned inside of the computer with a compressor.But I still hear that noise.How can I get rid of this noise ?
    By the way,I recorded the sound of noise and I want to share it with you guys so that you can hear it.But I couldn't upload/insert it to my post ???

    You may want to call Apple customer care and explain your problem. It is recognized now by Apple and they are issuing logic board updates.
    Some people report having more success by going to a brick and mortar Apple store and making an appointment at the Genius bar though.
    It is really your choice.

There seems to be a lot of angry and frustrated users of these cards who feel like beta testers... I followed the threads that went over several months with varying degrees of success...but overall a lot failure to use a sound card that was highly expensi've and hyped to provide wonderful benchmarkings and wonderful sounds.[size="4" face="Comic Sans MS">?[size="4" face="Comic Sans MS">I've ordered the Elite Pro this week ($900 AUS) and then I read these threads... Does it work okay?     Hi guys,i have a problem with my x-fi elite pro.When install the latest driver(SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_5_0002) works fine but when i close the pc or reboot a strange sound comes through the speakers and no audio. I wonder if this is a problem of my x-fi or just the software. I run creative diagnostics and find it ok,but when i test the chanells works only left. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

    May I ask what makes you so sure its Creative drivers? I dont have that problem with these drivers? Even if the problem is sound related it could be something to do with Vista, or that you are using corrupt codecs? Or something like that, im no CL fanboy thats too blind to see that CL isnt perfect, but sometimes people take for granted that when some issue is related to sound, it automatically is CL driver/hardware problem?! And you could be right, it can be Creative, but it hasnt have to be. Try re-installing youre video/audio codecs, and try re-installing youre video software if youre using third party player. I know i have problems with streaming, but my problems arent Creatives fault, its more of an issue with Adobe Flashplayer/Quicktime not working properly with 64-bit drivers/OS.

    :Help! with X-fi Elite Pro . Toslink issue. 2. Phono issue? I'm using a Toslink in and out to a JVC receiver. I can play and record computer sounds that play from creative external box through a Toslink into the receiver then into my receiver speakers. However, I can't record any other sound coming out of my receiver through Toslink into back of box.
    As a separate issue, I can't get the phono jacks on the external box to work. I've tried it with a direct connect from turntable to external box, with and without turntable preamp on, and with the creative box switch on phono and then with the box switch on aux. I then tried it from line out of receiver to aux in in the back and then to line in in frnt of box. Nothing worked. When I tried those setups, I tried it with toslink out of receiver and then with Toslink in receiver.
    I'm using a Dell Vista 64 computer.
    Any help with these issues would be appreciated.

  • Elite Pro, CMSS-3D not working and other issues after driver update

    DElite Pro, CMSS-3D not working and other issues after driver update <font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="4">Elite Pro CMSS-3D control (on I/O console)no longer controls CMSS-3D.
    The only time it works is if the original drivers are installed from the installation CD.
    ANY other drivers stop the control on the Elite Pro I/O console from having any effect on CMSS-3D.
    Also at one time when I cotrolled volume, CMSS-3D(original drivers), EAX and Crystalizer from the Elite Pro I/O controls then I had on screen display of said control that was being moved(on I/O console).
    Now regardless of what drivers are installed, there?are no longer any on screen indicators.
    The indicators looked like the ones that show when using the remote controller.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Apple TV issue-I have a Pioneer Elite Pro 1130 with a PRO-Ro6u Media Receiver. I cannot get my new Apple TV unit to work on this TV no matter what I have tried. No Video

    My new Apple TV unit (3rd generation) will not work with my Pioneer Elite Pro 1130 tv. The TV has a PRO-R06u Media Receiver. No matter what I try, I cannot get anything to come up on the screen. No Video and No Audio??

  • X-Fi Elite Pro Dissapears in Device Manager after Crash

    Hi guys...
    I have a big problem wich is may already mentioned in this forum...
    Its kind of strange that the sound card is working really good but when my pc crashes and i have to restard the pc the xfi card is not deteced any more
    There is not even a yellow questionmark indicating that there is just a driver issue...
    The card is just away...
    And now it comes even more strange... i switched of the computer and next day... the card was deteced and working like there werent any wrong...
    Its also really freaking me out cause i played oblivion and the game crashes... i've waited 30 minutes and then the game shuts down and windows gave me a error message that my graphic card is not working property o.O
    So its may the issue adresses to my graphic cards?
    So just to give a detailed view to my problem i show my specs:
    Mother Board: Extreme Striker
    Chipset: 680i NVIDIA
    Graphic Card: Sli 7800 XTX
    Sound Card: X-Fi Elite Pro
    Ram: 4gig
    CPU: X6800 Intel Core 2 Duo
    O/S: Windows Professionel 32bit

    It really depends on the connection electronics. Having nothing connected doesn't mean anything really. Try connecting something THEN test the noise level!

  • X-Fi Elite Pro: strange click-sound at bootup and when switching mo

    x-fi produces this clicking, when:
    - my system boots up, approx. at the winxp loading screen
    - switching modes (entertainment, gaming etc.)
    - i switch between digital I/O and Line-In in the THX console
    it sounds pretty much like a hi-fi amplifier being powered on.
    i didnt have any issues yet, but i was just wondering if this was normal...
    note: it's the card itself that produces this clicking - it's not a noise comming through the speakers!

    "Just to let you know, that the "clicking" sound your hearing, is from the electric relay mounted on the card(that big black component placed at the corner).
    This is normal behavier from using a relay, and I'm getting it from my Elite Pro too!"

  • X-Fi Elite Pro, can't hear PS2/X

    Hello. I tried to search the forums, but I either searched poorly or I couldn't find a similar issue.
    Here's the problem -- I can't hear either my PS2 or my Xbox using the Elite Pro on my PC.
    Hardware:
    [The good part]
    PC does not have on-board audio for the motherboard (no need to flip a BIOS switch).
    I have the SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro PCI card plugged into an open PCI slot on the motherboard.
    I installed the drivers from the CD as per the instructions. After the drivers are installed, and the reboot occurs, I can hear my normal PC sound perfectly through my headphones (I only have headphones. Speakers will come later).
    Initial hardware check - PASS.
    [The bad part]
    I plug the two RCAs (Left/Right) from my PS2 into the back of the Elite Pro exterior console.
    I plug my Xbox into the back of the exterior console as well, only this time into the optical input using Monster cabling.
    That's what I have set up. No matter what I've tried as far as configurations go on the software side, I cannot hear these two devices. Either through the fancy-graphics Creative Console Launcher, or from XP (SP2)'s Control Panel > Sound options... I just can't hear anything (Playback or Recording options, Mute boxes, volume sliders, etc). I've also tried flipping the Aux2/Phono switch on the back of the exterior console and then trying everything I already tried all oer again.
    I'm at a loss as to why I can't hear anything. I went to the store and picked up a RCA-to-Stereo converter and plugged the PS2 into the Microphone/Line-In port on the exterior console, and I could hear the PS2 through that. There are several reasons why that is an insufficient fix to my problem: ) I'd like to hook up the Xbox and PS2 at the same time. 2) I play World of Warcraft, and need the microphone slot freed up so that I can speak to my guild, and not have to crawl behind my machine every time I want to switch what I'm doing. 3) I paid for the Elite Pro specifically so that I could set all this up.

    All of them are related to the upper tabs. So:
    The Inputs tab bares all the available inputs on your rack and PCI card (just Line In for the latter).
    The Multi-Channel Wave tab bares all the outputs available on your rack and the PCI.
    Those two tabs are the most important right now.
    As I noted earlier, the problem occures either from a mute selection in the Auxiliary 2 strip or a 0% setting to the volume slider of the same strip. Otherwise, you are routing the Aux2 to an output not connected to your speakers. From what I see, no "Mute On" is apparent and you are routing every input to Front L/R Output. Have you tried plugging your headphones to Front L/R and select "2/2." as speakers?
    You should also select the monitoring to "Recording" and not to "Playback" (found at the blue field, bottom right). This will enable you to see the input level for your recording source (Aux2 in your case, correctly selected by you).
    Your speaker selection is set to "Headphones". Are they connected to the front output?
    It might be better to do some troubleshooting. So:
    What is the real problem?
    No signal from Aux2 input?
    No signal from the headphones output?

    Just a general question to the group:    Currently I own a pioneer elite pro-151fd  of which I bought 2 yrs ago from BB and had it professionally calibrated after 200hrs of play--to this day--I haven't seen a flat panel that competes w/ the elite except for the Bang and Olsefuen at 5 times the cost,, the elite black levels and color depths are massive,,,   do you agree ??   what will be the technology that will overtake the quality level of the pioneer elite "s ,  when ??  and will there a 3d version of that technology that will be without glasses ??    as a side question--is there anything that could be done as a additional piece of hardware that will become available to convert 2d to 3d without glasses ??

    Yes I agree. Nothing today is as good as the Pioneer Kuro technology was.

    I think it will still be plasma. When Pioneer stopped production they sold their Kuro tecnology and patents to Panasonic. Panasonic has been slowly incorporating aspects of the Kuro into their lineups and improving on that technology. Many think plasmas are dying but they are not. They will still be around for awhile.

Several companie have already made demo models but there are massive issues with them that prevent them from mass production. Issues such as very poor viewing angles and the cost to produce is so high that the cost of the TV would be prohibitive for mass consumer consumption.

    Can someone please help me here? It's quite urgent.
    I only just switched over to X-Fi from SB Li've yesterday. I'm missing a few things which IMO shouldn't be this difficult to find. If the manuals were printed, they'd basically be good for nothing more paper weights so I do hope someone here will be able to assist me.
    Before I start I should probably mention that I'm in Audio Creation Mode.
    . EAX presets: When I open the EAX controls in the Audio console, there are no presets plus the preset window is blanked out. The help file says that one should select a preset from the list but given the afore mentioned info, this proves to be somewhat impossible. How do I make the preset window acti've and get presets into it's
    2. Auxiliary Effects:
    a. In the SB Li've's EAX controls, one was able choose with which MIDI controller to send triggers for EG. a Multi-Tap Echo. If I understand it correctly, the MIDI implementation chart in the manual (which I stumbled upon by accident) seems to indicate that Auxiliary effect 3 is triggered by Controller 92 and Aux 4 by controller 94. However, I get zero response from either Auxiliary when triggering either of the 2 controllers. How do I trigger Aux effect 3 & 4 from my sequencer? Also I don't get any response from Aux 3 & 4 on the Wave channel of the mixer.
    b. Is there a better delay unit than the "Digital Delay"? The fact that Tap can only go to 207milliseconds and Tap2 to only 404milliseconds, makes it totally useless for a /4 note echo of anything slower than 48.5BPM. The SB Li've's Multi-tap used to be able to go into the thousands. I'm unable to hear what it sounds like since I can't get Aux 3 & 4 to work.
    I hope someone will be able to help me.

    Pardon me if I seem a little sinical in this post. It's just that I don't like buying a new and expensi've piece of equipment and having to do a runaround trying to fix problems which shouldn't have been there in the first place.
    It's a pitty that problems one has with a new piece of equipment or software almost always is fixable with something that would appear to be user incompetance when in fact it's the result of poor documentation. Anyway, thank you to the support team who helped me out. It would have been nice, though, if my more specific issues were answered concisely and not left completely unanswered.
    I thought I'd post the solution if someone could benefit from it:
    If you had previously run a Sound Blaster Li've! Platinum before installing X-Fi Elite Pro and you find that Auxiliary effects 3 & 4 doesn't work, it's likely that some of the previous SB Li've drivers had not been completely removed from your system. To do this you have to do a clean sweep of your previous installation (which I would have though should be handled by the uninstall program). Anyway, here's a link to a support page which describes how to accomplish this:

    One problem I had is that the CTZAPXX.EXE mentioned in the procedure doesn't appear on the driver disk that came with my SB Li've! Platinum. Fortunately I have a SB Li've 24bit as well and the app was on that driver disk.
    After going through the procedure as mentioned above, the 2 Auxiliary effects still did not work. I then installed the new drivers (Update 4) as available on Creative's Driver Page on 2 Dec 2006. At last it worked. A word of caution: Make sure you exit the Creative Volume Panel before installing Update 4. Otherwise, nothing will work as it should.
    OK so that fixed my auxiliary effects not working.
    I had to answer my MIDI controller question myself by testing with 0-27 values as the reply from support ignored this question amongst others completely. In all fairness, though, the MIDI implementation chart did tell me where to start the trial and error and reduced the test time considerably. And here's the result: Controller 92 does in fact control the strength of Aux 3 and Controller 94 controls Aux 4. There, that sentence took me like what? ...0 seconds to write.
    That leaves my other 2 questions:
    . Where has the presets gone under the EAX tab of the Audio Console when in Audio Creation Mode? There are 7 or 8 of them in Game mode but only a blanked out window in Audio Creation Mode.
    2. Is there a better delay unit available anywhere which allows for longer delay times. The current one is actually closer to a reverb unit than a delay unit as there are many reverb units with longer delay times than this.
