Any Chance?

Re: -Re: X-FI Xtreme Audio/ Line-IN + Mic Problem? OK Gentleman, the problem is fixed, and this with the original and actuall creative drivers.
Because daniel_k`s unofficial soundpacks didnt work for me, i decided to install the actuall creative drivers and started a support request. In the meanwhile i installed the official updates which are provided in autoupdate function. With driver .4000 there is no possibility to set flexijack to mikro so its not possible to use the mikrophone.
After restart the windows update function shows an creative update, which is not shown with the creative autoupdate tool (ugly i think but thats true). I decided to use the windows update, downloaded it, restarted the pc and now...
Start Creative systemconfig:
Now everything works fine. EAX is working, Crystalizer is working... The only thing which is not possible... using 2 analog inputs at same time. Because i own a analog tv card, i have to use the onboard realtek analog cd in. With XP and Vista it was possible to watch tv and use teamspeak for example... now i can watch tv or use teamspeak but its not possible to do this at same time.

  • Possible to use audio line out and in simultaneously ?

In the current version of MacBook Pro Retina is it possible to use the analog audio line out and line in both simultaneously ? That is playback as well as record analog audio at the same time.
Does anyone know what is the audio hardward platform (Codec, DAC, ADC, etc..) in this machine ?
    Thanks!

    Air has a headset jack.
    You can use a splitter
Mics should be USB capable for best results, almost all headset mics are junk quality.
then monitoring or listening thru the headphones
consider using a PRO MIC , such as an Audio Technica AT2020 USB

or better still use one of these with pro XLR mics:

  • Audio line in and mic both recording

Hi, both the line in and the built in mic are recording at the same time , it doesnt look so in system prefs > sound > line in ( I have built in line in selected) as when I make a sound the level meter does not move , however when I start recording in iMovie 09 ambient sounds from the area are captured as well as the sound from the line in.
    please help.
I need to get some projects done this weekend and I just can't with the macbook working like this.
    hoping it's something simple I've missed .

    Hi Lyssa,
I use a professional dj mixer which is fine for going directly in usually, if I used a specific sound card (I use MOTU cards for desktop/studio work) I'd have a better quality audio sound but I just don't need that quality for mobile demo work which is why I need the input on the book to work with the iSight/iMovie without recording from the internal mic at the same time...
    Something is broken somewhere IMHO
The thing is I have to rely on the mixer going directly in at the moment for mobile work, it works fine on other notebooks, looks like a call to Applecare is in the offing....
I guess I may as well, there are a few other problems with this Macbook...like it's started cracking already and I've only had it two months, the graphics unfortunately look to have an issue also as when I scroll text is flashing/scatty etc.
looks like I've got me a lemon.
ah well..I'll have a look at the new 13" MBP me thinks... it should be more solid?..but then again it's aluminium...sorry I digress

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio and Gaming M

    Hello,
i just bought a X-Fi Extreme Audio (bulk version) and only installed the driver from the creative site. Do i need some more software from the cd to enable the gaming mode or is the Creative Audio console enough to enable it's If it is enough where to enable it's
    Br
    David

As I told you, the enabling or disabling features either at?hardware, driver or application level with the **CA20K processor** is another issue, and unless you have a specification manual?to back them, your theories have the same validity?than the marketing terms. The main problem is that the XtremeAudio uses a different chip, **the CA006**, ?even less capable than the EMU0K2 in the Audigy series, and it cannot do all the functions that creative arbitrarily defined as "gaming mode". Thus, even if someone slaps a "gaming mode" sticker in the software or makes 0 different modes, it's still useless for EAX5 games. Once again (I hope this time it catches) ***It is about the intrinsic capabilities of the chip, not the user interface decisions***. How could they disable the OAL/DS3D voices and leave the DS? simple, they alter the cap flags. What's the point? each 3D voice implies at least one HRTF filter, instead of those filters they can apply other?custom effects filters just changing tap coefficients. Then again, I don't know how the innards work nor the reasoning behind the desing decisions. I know it's throwing gas to the flame, but let me remind you that this is not the first case where some features are disabled in order to enable others, if you were around '98/'99 you might have heard that aureal's?vortex 2?was capable of 6 hw-accelerated voices with wavetracing, but with a later driver,it was possible to manage 96 voices disabling wavetracing. The EMU0K also traded 2D buffers to enable more 3D ones. It's all about reassigning finite resources. There are several explanations?that are more rational and plausible than?all your conspiracy theories but again, only those who know how things work close to the metal can give conclusi've answers.

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio not Recognized by Wi

I'm building a new system, using the Asus P5N-D mobo. I've got XP installed and updated to current. Windows recognizes that there is a pci device installed, but the X-fi drivers dont recognize the card.
Any tips or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi candleja; I too am having the same issue, I was bought X-FI Extreme Audio PCI-Express and I attempted to install it on my FoxConn m/b running XP Pro SP3, same error showed itself saying device could not be located, it shows up in Device Manager but not as a normal audio device would (normally it states something like "Sound or Multimedia Device") it just states "PCI Device", the drivers on the CD didnt work, the drivers on the site didnt work (only being Vista ones is why but worth a go) and the work arounds to force a driver to install wont work on SP3 due to the "Only show compatible drivers" option not being present on device managers driver wizard anymore so I cant force it to install. I looked up the same card on a few online stores and they all said they support both XP/Vista and both 32Bit/64Bit but it did say "XP Pro SP2" rather than "SP3" or "SP2 or higher" but due to having a slipstreamed SP3 XP Pro install source I cant just uninstall SP3, very annoying >.< so if anyone has a solution that would be much appriciated! Its a shame as well I hear good things of this card and I've got a digital/optical surround kit but have been using stock/on-board SPU's for years now and I finally get around to getting a really hyped card and creative let me down grr! • Y500 Audio Line Issue

Hey guys, it's my 3rd yeard using the Y500 and recently just I discovered there is some issues with my audio line in and out ports. I plugged in the mic and speakers but it's not working, sounds are still continue playing by the laptop itself. I'm not sure for how long this problem occured as I barely use any speakers or earphones.

Go into the Sound control panel applet. Under the Playback tab, what devices does it list when you have headphones attached?

  • Audio Line-in input and BT Headset output not working

    Hi,
I'm trying to run the Line-in into my MBPro and route the output to my Logitech H800 BT Headphones at the same time (a pass through), but can't get it to work.
I have tried to run the line-in to the Internal Speakers and can not get this to work either.
    Steps to taken:
    1. Go to the Sound window by selecting the Sound icon from System Preferences.
Next, I route the Line-in by:
    2. Selecting the Input button from Sound Effects, Output, Input buttons.
    3. Select "Line In" from the Select a device for sound input list.
    4. Select "Sound Input" from the Use audio port for drop down list
    5. you should see activity on the Input Level.
    6. Next, select the Ouput button from Sound Effects, Output, Input buttons.
    7. Select "H800 Logitech Headset Stereo (or Internal Speakers) from the Select a device for sound output list.
    8. Verify that "Sound Input" from the Use audio port for drop down list is still selected.
    9. Also, verify that the Mute checkbox is not selected in either the Input or Output window.
    10. NO SOUND :-(
    11. If I pull up a radio station in a webbrowser, I can listen to it without issue. So, I think audio out is set correctly.
    12. If I install Audacity: 1) It shows the audio input and output to be set as above (Built-in Input/H800 Headset). 2) If I record and then playback, it records the audio going in the Line-In and plays back accross the H800. 3) Also looked for a Monitor function in Audacity but could find one to test simulataneous I/O.
    Any idaes welcome ?

ahh sry, thats how the line in works on my Mac Pro, I guess the Macbook is different. This is a program I use in conjunction with another called 'soundflower' to route my audio to all the places it needs to go:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11333/linein
If you need to run multiple instances, you can open up terminal and type
    open -n /Applications/[PUT PROGRAM NAME HERE].app/
It will open up another instance every time you run that script.

  • How come when I view flash videos my videos stop, but the audio plays  and I see rainbow colored lines up and down the video.

How come when I view flash videos my videos stop, but the audio plays  and I see rainbow colored lines up and down the video. I attached a image below.

ATR, just to make sure you understand me, all my video clips in my folders appear as the first frame of the video clip when I view my folders as (small, medium, large)icons instead of lists, when saved as .avi files but when saved as .mp4 files, those icons display as a graphic icon of filmstrip with a musical note on it. I do have various other methods to open with (quick time, windows media, winamp or real player) but prefer real player because I like it's quick and easy trimmer that comes along with it, since so many of my videos are just pet antics where you need to clip off the boring beginning and ends of the video.
I did go on a few of the icons and right clicked, Open With, and tried quick time and also Windows Media and it did nothing as far as how the file was saved for display, and they opened the same no matter which player I used...the actual video opens and plays right at it's first frame... but it's the way it is visually displayed in STORAGE that bugs me because it isn't immediately apparent to me what it is a video of (weddings, outside the house, pet antics)... it makes me have to actually title things and read titles where before I let it just be dates because I had the visual of that first frame as a reference. Obviously, this is a problem for unedited videos only, as anything I actually work with, I do give a title along with the date of the video.
I also just realized this seems to be the way ALL videos that are wrapped in .mp4 are displayed, as my bloggie camera's videos appear the same way. Now I know why! My other videos display as .avi's so I see the frame. Puzzle solved. Guess I'll just have to learn to live with it, as it seems to be how things display with the various formats.
Now I need to watch some tutorials to learn how this Premiere program works! It's all new to me, since this is the first time I've been able load any of my videos onto it. I haven't even been able to figure out how to trim on it yet!

  • Purchased XFI extreme audio PCIe for someone and it won't install on vista 32

The hardware isn't detected and thus cannot be installed. I had the same problem with my fatality titanium but at least there was a patch download for windows 7 so the card can be detected. No such patch exists for the extreme audio PCIe which means the card won't install under windows vista or windows 7.
Am I missing something or what? I have read other similar complaints about this particular XFI.

    EUREKA!
Reading the bowls of the post just below, It said to make sure shockwave was enabled. It wasn't!! I enabaled it and tried my web sites and things worked fine.

  • Audio line out buzz, clicks and ground hum all of the sudden?

I've developed a nasty, sharp, buzzing from my audio line-out on my iMac G5, and it's gets twice as loud and unbearable when I put the computer to sleep. When I plug in a pair of iPod headphones and play a song, NO AUDIO WHATSOEVER appears in the phones, just a steady endless series of audible clicks. All connections were tested with new cables, etc., and it didn't make a lick of difference. My guess is that this issue has something ot do with the "optical out" dual-purpose jack 3.5mm jack, like it's internal switch is stuck half-on or something-- I saw a red light when plugging in the audio cable. Has anyone experienced a problem like this on their machine?

I've read about the red light here before. The jack does indeed read the impedence and then ping software to let it know something's attached. Perhaps try several different plugs in addition to the cables you've already tried. I know some speakers and headphones here at my place have WAY different impedence values.
Some people have been able to trouble shoot by creating a dummy user account to verify it's a software problem (the problem is gone in the new account). Other people have been successful resetting the core audio by running the GarageBand program. Not sure these tricks will help you, as 60 cycle hum leads me to think there's a hardware problem.
Let us know if this is helpful (as I only need 5 more points to hit 1000!)

  • X-Fi Extreme audio and FlexiJack with mini-tosl

    Hi.
I was told that you can use a standard mini-toslink to toslink cable instead of the i/o module if you only want optical spdif output from this card.
So i bought me the card and a the cable.
On my gamer pc the optical led of the FlexiJack is glowing all the time even if i dont use the port.
On my HTPC (the one with the Extreme Audio card) the FlexiPort is black as night and ofcourse i dont get any digtal signal to my reci'ver. The decoder tab where you are suposed to be able to set "Dolby Digital/DTS Bitstream Out" is absent..

Anyone? I really need to get this working...

Extreme Audio Distortion and Loudness occurs randomly...when I open an old FCP project.
There seems to be no logic behind when it happens.
And the audio was fine the last time the project was saved...
Anyone know why this happens, I feel like I'm the only one who might have this issue

No you are not the only one.
Do a search in this forum.
But I haven't it seen reported for the last few months, so maybe this solved with some update.
If the search does no help you, you need to give us some more information about the specs of the audio/movie files, sequence settings etc. And on the versions of FCP OSX and Qicktime, as well as information about how the audio is coming from the speakers (internal audio, AJA or Blackmagic card, etc)

  • Question about Audio line-in/optical in/Audio out/optical out

I have a late 2009 27" iMac (v3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I note that on Apple's description of the rear ports, what I thought were simply headphone (Audio Out) and microphone (Audio In) jacks are described as:
    1. Headphone/optical digital [S/PDIF] audio out:
    "Line/Headphone output
"The headphone output is automatically selected for audio output if no external S/PDIF optical digital output device is detected. The headphone output supports a stereo data stream at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. The headphone output volume can be adjusted from 0.0 dB to -64 dB..."
The headphone output volume can be adjusted from 0.0 dB to -64 dB."
    and
    2. Audio line-in/optical in:
    "Line input
"The analog line input operates independently from all other audio input ports and is always available. The line input supports recording at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. Audio recorded from the line input is presented as a stereo data stream. You can adjust the line input gain from -16 dB to +30 dB..."
"The digital audio input has the following electrical characteristics (nominal specifications), based on input of a 1 kHz sine wave at 0 dBFS input level, 24-bit sample depth, and 44.1 kHz sample rate (unless otherwise specified below):
FSI – input sample rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz
    Bits per sample: 16, 20, or 24
    Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR): >130 dB
    Total harmonic distortion + noise (THD+N): <-130 dB (0.0003%)
    Sound output/digital audio output port"
While, as an Olde School audiophile guy (62, and I still have vinyl!), I generally understand the gist of all this, I'm not at all hip to what S/PDIF optical digital output and/or digital audio input can do for me. So my questions are:
    1. Can somebody please wise me up to the usage(s) of these optical inputs and outputs on the iMac?
    2. The Apple description says,under "Line/Headphone output":
"PCM: 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz
AC-3: 16 bits per sample at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz, 176.4 kHz, or 192 kHz"
    and under "Line input
"The analog line input operates independently from all other audio input ports and is always available. The line input supports recording at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. Audio recorded from the line input is presented as a stereo data stream. You can adjust the line input gain from -16 dB to +30 dB."
How -- where -- do I adjust these bit depth and sample rates?
    Thanks for your help!
    Bart

Thanks for the info. Turns out there's an even easier way to do it than using the "Audio Midi Setup": through the prefs in the latest (and probably some previous) version of VLC, which is currently Version 1.0.2 Goldeneye (Intel 64bit).
Now if we could only get full native resolution (or at least 1080p) HDMI input into the Mini-DPs of our 2560 x 1440-capable 27" iMacs and actually have it display something WAY better than 720p (half the resolution of which the 27" iMac is capable) to which Apple limited it, without having to buy a third-party $270.00 HDMI-to Mini-DPP converter and scaler. Call me crazy, but it seems kinda silly to have to pay another $300 to buy a device that will scale the 27" iMac's resolution back up to a measly 1080p, let alone its native 2560 x 1440. But, as the
As a side note, can anyone tell me -- perhaps the elusive and chimerical, but omniscient and omnipotent "communityhosts" of Apple.com -- why, in my original post in this thread, the phrase "1. Headphone/optical digital S/PDIF audio out" had the acronym "S/PDIF" stricken through, like it was a particularly egregious Anglo-Saxonism? Wikipedia defines the acronym thus: "S/PDIF is a data link layer protocol and a set of physical layer specifications for carrying digital audio signals between devices and components over either optical or electrical cable. The name stands for Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format."
If I have inadvertently broken another arcane, abstruse, and/or inscrutable canon of the rules (http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa) governing what may or not be asked or said on these avowedly "user-driven" discussions, allow me to beg for forgiveness beforehand, pleading ignorance, and ask that Apple's "community hosts" or administrators would expand upon and make very clear, in their "Apple Discussions Terms of Use," a comprehensive list of terms, subjects, lines of discussion, references to certain items, products, people, policies, etc. that are simply disallowed in the forum.
It is extremely depressing and frustrating to spend however long it takes -- and it takes ME a long time, as I have a 60-year-ingrained tendency towards verbosity -- to ask and post a question or message, only to have the message never even posted to the forum, but, without any sort of consultation with me so that I may learn from, and correct, my errors, uncaringly consigned to the illimitable void by hands to whom there is no appeal or orison.
    It seems unfair.
