X-Fi Extreme Audio / Line In not functio

Running: Windows Vista RTM?Repro: Clean boot machine. Disable on-board audio chipset.Powerdown, install X-Fi Extreme Audio cardPowerup, cancel autoinstall of windows driverDownload & install most recent driver version from creative websiteReboot, still in cleanboot.Whoopee, Windows sounds work. but.... where the heck is Line In so I can perform the *one thing*?I bought this card for??I'd very much like to listen to my MP3 player!?Help!

Re: -Re: X-FI Xtreme Audio/ Line-IN + Mic Problem? OK Gentleman, the problem is fixed, and this with the original and actuall creative drivers.
Because daniel_k`s unofficial soundpacks didnt work for me, i decided to install the actuall creative drivers and started a support request. In the meanwhile i installed the official updates which are provided in autoupdate function. With driver .4000 there is no possibility to set flexijack to mikro so its not possible to use the mikrophone.
After restart the windows update function shows an creative update, which is not shown with the creative autoupdate tool (ugly i think but thats true). I decided to use the windows update, downloaded it, restarted the pc and now...
Start Creative systemconfig:
Now everything works fine. EAX is working, Crystalizer is working... The only thing which is not possible... using 2 analog inputs at same time. Because i own a analog tv card, i have to use the onboard realtek analog cd in. With XP and Vista it was possible to watch tv and use teamspeak for example... now i can watch tv or use teamspeak but its not possible to do this at same time.

  • Audio line-in not working on MacBook late 2008

The audio line-in on my aluminium MacBook late 2008 has stopped working.
The built-in microphone works like a charm, but when I connect an external microphone the computer does not register sound any more. I have tried with several microphones, and I have verified in the settings that the sound input is set to line-in (I don't know exactly what the setting is called in English, in French it's "Entrée ligne". Anyway, it must be the right one).
One last piece of important information might be that I hear a scraping sound in the speakers when I connect the microphone. After that, nothing.
Is this a hardware problem or is there anything I can do on my own to fix it?
    Thank you!

    The built in iMic works
I assume that's a typo and you just meant the "Built-in Mic"
when I turned it on a screen came down that said I needed to restart my
computer. So I assume that means some sort of signal is being recieved by
    the line in....
I wouldn't call that a safe assumption, it jsut means your computer crashed. Pretty rare for Mac OS X, but it does happen.
Are you using a PPC or Intel based Mac? I'm guessing intel since you implied that you set GB's prefs to Line-In (this can't be done on a PPC Mac). Make sure GB's Input PopUp menu is set to line in and try creating a New Basic Track.

  • HT3625 Audio line function not available on Macbook Pro mid 2012

Does Macbook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2012) with OSX Mountain support Audio line?  Its seems that OSX Mountain Lion disabled audio line in function in headphone port. This is a bad move by Apple because I am sure that everyone would like to use line in to record audio from external source.

I am trying to connect an external audio source (line in) to a MacBook Pro 15" (Retina, Mid 2012). The built in phones port does not accept input signals (@Branduan: I can't confirm that itis a dual in/out port). I attached an external soundcard (M-Audio Fasttrack USB), but no signal made it into the MacBook Pro.
Any chance how to get an audio signal into that machine??

  • PCI Express X-Fi Extreme Audio Optical In Not Working From

I recently purchased this card to use with my Playstation 3 via Optical In. After messing around with the settings on the PS3 I was able to get sound in the Playstation menu (the clicking sound when navigating the menu), but when I try to play a movie or a game, the sound will play for -2 seconds and then stop. I have tried all of the available audio format options on the Playstation and nothing hel

  • Video frames  are heard during play back in the audio line (but not on the DVD)

Another problem occurs( among lots of other annoying problems which are not solved yet).  Using PPRO 5.5 in two projects now and I am very dissapointed in the quality of this software comparing to PPRO 2.0. To many problems to mention here. It works and thats all.
This is the new problem. When I play the project, the video frames "are heard" ( sounds like the old film projector transport) at low level in the audio signal together with the audio signal itself (at normal level)
This is annoying during editing, but doesn't affect the results by burning on DVD.  Is that an normal situation?  In my old PPRO 2.0 not such a problem was there. Or is there something wrong.
    Thanks for replying
    Chris

    Chris,
I'm sorry I could not find a solution. In fact I'm stumped and request the help of Todd or Wil or some other Adobe employee to help you out.
Why? The reason for requesting Adobe's help in this way is:
    a. Chris has a limited knowledge of English and works with a Dutch version of Windows, which makes it difficult to communicate on the phone.
    b. I have checked his system with Teamviewer and the system is more than adequate and is properly tuned/optimized for the task he wants to perform.
    c. I can't find a solution to help him.
    What is the problem?
System is an i7-2600K with 16 GB memory, P67 mobo, nVidia GTX 570 and 520 cards, 5 x 1 TB disks, 3 monitors, on-board audio.
Source material is simple DV PAL widescreen from a JVC camera. Sequence settings match, no problems here.
Playing a clip with WMP shows no problem, playing from the camera to a TV shows no problem, but playing from the timeline in a CS5.5.1 project results in a clearly audible rattling that is comparable to the rattling one has when projecting old 8 mm film, only louder. This was clearly audible for me over the phone.
I have no idea where to start looking for a solution, because his system looks good from all sides, is properly tuned, has more than enough horsepower to edit simple DV material.
So please Todd, Wil or anybody else from Adobe, can you help Chris?

  • Audio Line-In Not Working

I was trying to record through my line-in and nothing was happening. I selected line-in under system preferences and in Garageband's preferences and nothing. The built in iMic works, however it sounds like crap, as i'm sure you all know.
I thought it could be the 1/4 inch cable adapter that wasn't working (that's what was plugged into the line in) so I tried plugging it into my old iMic USB thing that I used to use with my Mac Mini and everything worked fine. So I know it's not any of my cables or anything, it has something to do with the line-in.
I really hope there's not a problem with my line-in because I've had this computer for less than a week. Any thoughts/help would be very much appreciated.
Oh yeah...when I had Garageband open and had my PA mixer plugged into the line-in and when I turned it on a screen came down that said I needed to restart my computer. So I assume that means some sort of signal is being recieved by the line in....

  • Audio line-out issues

Audio line out not working. Had done up till updated Snow Leopard recently. Anybody had same problem? Any fixes?!

Problem "solved". Uncertain about why though.
Disc Repair? The verify disc did show up that it needed repairing.
    Resetting PRAM?
Or the speaker cables ? I put in another cable of the same type but both cables now working fine. So...?
It may be simply how the steps are sequenced.
But a nuisance when it happens.

  • Can't edit audio line - it will not appear

For some reason my edit line will not appear in the audio track. I can't fade down or out the audio tracks downloaded from my iTunes library.
Note: This is just one of the problems I've had since installing iLife 08. I did not care for '08 and deleted it but I believe parts of it still lingers somewhere.
I will only use my version 6, but can't go further with four 'in progress' movies.

  • Audio Line-In Input: Not Reading Sound

    So here's my problem:
I tried recording some stuff I was doing in my DAW using Quicktime's Audio Recording option. My understanding is that I simply start a new recording, choose my input device, and start recording (by which I chose "Built-In Input: Line In").  I chose that option thinking, "Oh hey, I obviously want the highest quality sound for a recording so my friends can hear what I'm doing...why not have them hear what I'm hearing in my headphones?" Turns out, after I listened back to the recording....NO SOUND. I triple checked but the audio clip had no sound...just silence. Then, I went to system preferences, checked to make sure the correct Audio Input was selected...yes: "Line In: Audio Line-in port,"     NOT "internal microphone." Ok...so what now?
Then I went into the AUDIO MIDI SETUP in Utilities to make sure everything was okay there. Everything's fine...except the master volume on my Built-in Input is set to "0." The left and right faders are at a moderate level but the master is simply 0 (and it won't let me adjust it...it's just grayed out). The weird thing is, when I go back to system preferences, I have the Built-In Input level turned up. Why are these two levels different if they're the same input? Is this why I'm getting no sound when trying to record things like: music coming from my DAW, or simple audio tracks on my mac, or other recordings? I should emphasize: I AM hearing sound through my output, BUT I am NOT able to record that sound with a recording device. I've tried multiple things: Line In application, Audacity, restarting comp, changing to audo interface, checking DAW settings, etc. Why is my Line-In Input getting no signal? Thanks guys!
    My specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/sp644

Couple of things to check, you say you have selected line in ok, are you sending an analog signal to the line in port?(It needs to be analog to be seen) If you are, when you open  QT, under file click new audio recording, then also click the little white triangle on the upper right and make sure that it is set to line is a well. You need to click the red square to begin recording. Also check the Audio MIDI Set Up is configured as in the 2nd  screen shot

  • Audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector) not working Iphone 4 os 4.2

For my new iphone4, the audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector)is not working. Both using a cable to mini jack (3,5 mm) or in dockingstation.
    I'm using OS 4.2.
    IS this a bug?

I just came back from the Apple store.  My iPhone4 DOES have a working line out when plugged into a Apple name brand dock connector.   I don't know why my SendStation refuses to work only with the iPhone4 yet works with iPods, etc..
Solution? I'm buying an Apple iPod dock connector for home and will try to find something with line out for the car - Apple says they do not make one.

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio not Recognized by Wi

I'm building a new system, using the Asus P5N-D mobo. I've got XP installed and updated to current. Windows recognizes that there is a pci device installed, but the X-fi drivers dont recognize the card.

Hi candleja; I too am having the same issue, I was bought X-FI Extreme Audio PCI-Express and I attempted to install it on my FoxConn m/b running XP Pro SP3, same error showed itself saying device could not be located, it shows up in Device Manager but not as a normal audio device would (normally it states something like "Sound or Multimedia Device") it just states "PCI Device", the drivers on the CD didnt work, the drivers on the site didnt work (only being Vista ones is why but worth a go) and the work arounds to force a driver to install wont work on SP3 due to the "Only show compatible drivers" option not being present on device managers driver wizard anymore so I cant force it to install. I looked up the same card on a few online stores and they all said they support both XP/Vista and both 32Bit/64Bit but it did say "XP Pro SP2" rather than "SP3" or "SP2 or higher" but due to having a slipstreamed SP3 XP Pro install source I cant just uninstall SP3, very annoying >.< so if anyone has a solution that would be much appriciated! Its a shame as well I hear good things of this card and I've got a digital/optical surround kit but have been using stock/on-board SPU's for years now and I finally get around to getting a really hyped card and creative let me down grr! • Question about Audio line-in/optical in/Audio out/optical out

I have a late 2009 27" iMac (v3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I note that on Apple's description of the rear ports, what I thought were simply headphone (Audio Out) and microphone (Audio In) jacks are described as:
    1. Headphone/optical digital [S/PDIF] audio out:
    "Line/Headphone output
"The headphone output is automatically selected for audio output if no external S/PDIF optical digital output device is detected. The headphone output supports a stereo data stream at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. The headphone output volume can be adjusted from 0.0 dB to -64 dB..."
The headphone output volume can be adjusted from 0.0 dB to -64 dB."
    and
    2. Audio line-in/optical in:
    "Line input
"The analog line input operates independently from all other audio input ports and is always available. The line input supports recording at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. Audio recorded from the line input is presented as a stereo data stream. You can adjust the line input gain from -16 dB to +30 dB..."
"The digital audio input has the following electrical characteristics (nominal specifications), based on input of a 1 kHz sine wave at 0 dBFS input level, 24-bit sample depth, and 44.1 kHz sample rate (unless otherwise specified below):
FSI – input sample rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz
    Bits per sample: 16, 20, or 24
    Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR): >130 dB
    Total harmonic distortion + noise (THD+N): <-130 dB (0.0003%)
    Sound output/digital audio output port"
While, as an Olde School audiophile guy (62, and I still have vinyl!), I generally understand the gist of all this, I'm not at all hip to what S/PDIF optical digital output and/or digital audio input can do for me. So my questions are:
    1. Can somebody please wise me up to the usage(s) of these optical inputs and outputs on the iMac?
    2. The Apple description says,under "Line/Headphone output":
"PCM: 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz
AC-3: 16 bits per sample at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz, 176.4 kHz, or 192 kHz"
    and under "Line input
"The analog line input operates independently from all other audio input ports and is always available. The line input supports recording at bit depths of 16, 20, or 24 bits per sample and at sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz. Audio recorded from the line input is presented as a stereo data stream. You can adjust the line input gain from -16 dB to +30 dB."
How -- where -- do I adjust these bit depth and sample rates?
    Thanks for your help!
    Bart

Thanks for the info. Turns out there's an even easier way to do it than using the "Audio Midi Setup": through the prefs in the latest (and probably some previous) version of VLC, which is currently Version 1.0.2 Goldeneye (Intel 64bit).
Now if we could only get full native resolution (or at least 1080p) HDMI input into the Mini-DPs of our 2560 x 1440-capable 27" iMacs and actually have it display something WAY better than 720p (half the resolution of which the 27" iMac is capable) to which Apple limited it, without having to buy a third-party $270.00 HDMI-to Mini-DPP converter and scaler. Call me crazy, but it seems kinda silly to have to pay another $300 to buy a device that will scale the 27" iMac's resolution back up to a measly 1080p, let alone its native 2560 x 1440. But, as the
As a side note, can anyone tell me -- perhaps the elusive and chimerical, but omniscient and omnipotent "communityhosts" of Apple.com -- why, in my original post in this thread, the phrase "1. Headphone/optical digital S/PDIF audio out" had the acronym "S/PDIF" stricken through, like it was a particularly egregious Anglo-Saxonism? Wikipedia defines the acronym thus: "S/PDIF is a data link layer protocol and a set of physical layer specifications for carrying digital audio signals between devices and components over either optical or electrical cable. The name stands for Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format."
If I have inadvertently broken another arcane, abstruse, and/or inscrutable canon of the rules (http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa) governing what may or not be asked or said on these avowedly "user-driven" discussions, allow me to beg for forgiveness beforehand, pleading ignorance, and ask that Apple's "community hosts" or administrators would expand upon and make very clear, in their "Apple Discussions Terms of Use," a comprehensive list of terms, subjects, lines of discussion, references to certain items, products, people, policies, etc. that are simply disallowed in the forum.
It is extremely depressing and frustrating to spend however long it takes -- and it takes ME a long time, as I have a 60-year-ingrained tendency towards verbosity -- to ask and post a question or message, only to have the message never even posted to the forum, but, without any sort of consultation with me so that I may learn from, and correct, my errors, uncaringly consigned to the illimitable void by hands to whom there is no appeal or orison.
    It seems unfair.

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio PCIe Driver doenst work with Vista - HD Audio Device is installed automati

    Hey,
after trying for hours this forum is my last hope. For about a year my PC worked more or less fine with Vista Business und the Soundblaster Extreme Audio PCIe (if you ignore the not working line in).
But today the driver vanished for no reason. Instead of the Creative Driver an Vista HD Audio Device was installed. I still got sound but the overall sound quality got really bad.
So i tried reinstalling the Soundcard using the Driver CD. There were no error messages but after a reboot there was still the HD
Audio Device. I downloaded the new driver from the creative HP: Same effect. I tried updating the HD Device, i tried deleting the Device. I even tried deleteing the the internal Driverfiles but after that I just got the problem that I had no audio device at all.
I don't think the card is broken because i get sound using the HD Driver.
Has anyone any idea what i can do to fix this

Funny fact: Today, after a reboot, the card worked again... Dunno why... But it does...

  • Can't get sound to play using audio line in

I am trying to play audio from my iPhone by connecting mini plug cable to the headphone jack and the audio line-in mini plug.  The input level indicator in System Preferences > Sound is showing that audio is playing but I don't hear sound.  I do have sound playing through my Mac Pro with iTunes, steaming audio/video, etc., so I know it works.  Any ideas how I can get sound to play audibly using line-in?

Another option not involving any additional software - see:

Just came across this problem myself (10.8) and that solution works great - just open Quicktime, there under File: choose a "new audio recording". In the upcoming controller switch up the volume.
Weard that it works this way but nowhere else in the sound System Control panels ...
