X-Fi Extreme Music Not Detected At All By New

I have just finished building a new PC with parts obtained from a friend, but the X-Fi that worked fine in my previous computer is now totally undetected. There is even no trace of it in the DMI data when the computer turns on - no 'Multimedia Controller' is listed under the PCI devices. It's the same story in Windows, there are no unrecognised devices at all. I have tried using it in both of the available PCI slots, and have had no luck. I know both slots work because my Wi-Fi card works in both of them. It worked briefly the first time I tested the system but after finishing the assembly of the computer it now?no longer works. • Airport card works in 10.1, HW test passes, but not detected at all in 10.4

Ok, Hi. I'll first admit this is my first post so go easy on me!
I just bought a used iBook G3 and it was working fine for a while until about a month ago when all kinds of weird things stared happening. Some of which those problems I solved from reading previous topics from these forums - but anyways, I'll skip all my other problems and get right to my current one.
First off here is the complete specs:
12.1" iBook G3 "dual USB series"
    500MHz PPC processor
    128+256MB ram = 384MB RAM
15GB hard drive (NOW 160GB HARD DRIVE!)
No Airport Card (NOW ONE HAS BEEN ADDED!)
Multiple OS's - OS9 and 10.1 were included (have original disks)
I also have a set of 10.4 Tiger CD-ROM disks
Anyways, here is basically what is happening. I bought an Airport card off eBay for my iBook. I installed it about a week ago. I booted into 10.4 Tiger and it did not detect the card. Tried to do the manual setup with the wizard and it said there was no card attached. I went into the system profiler and is said No info available under the airport section. I then booted to my "apple hardware test disk" and ran the full/extended test. It passed everything (including the Airport card) so I know that is not the problem. I then booted into OS X 10.1 and lone behold the card is detected and is working without any fooling around with! Instant wireless internet! So I know that the card is working, but I want to use it in Tiger as 10.1 is almost worthless. So I boot into Tiger again knowing that the card is working, and Tiger still does not recognize it! I even booted into OS 9 and it detected the card (although it was having some connection problems, but at least I know that it IS detecting it.)
Here is what I tried (so you can cross these suggestions off your list! lol)
I've deleted the Airport "ktext" files, etc. (can't remember the actual names of the files, but I've cleared all of those caches and still no luck.)
    I've zapped PRAM
    I rest NVRAM
    I rest the PMU.
I did a Arcive and install of 10.4
...All of which did not help. Again, the card worked in 10.1, but 10.4 is completely blind and can't find it!
Now we are caught up to today. I was having many other odd problems and it all lead to my hard drive probably being bad. So toady I finally bit the bullet and bought a new hard drive from Best Buy. It took me forever to install it, but I did it, and it works! Now I have 160GB (make that only 128GB detected) of space. I partitioned it 4 ways as well:
    "Tiger" - 80GB
    "Other OS" - 30GB
    "Extra Space 1" - 10GB
    "Extra Space 2" - 8GB
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx- 128GB Total
So now that I have a new hard drive (that I was told would fix all of my problems because my old one was "bad" I thought I would have it working today, but no. So I put in the brand new drive, partitioned it, booted off my Tiger disk, installed it on the 80GB partition. The install went fine. So I now have 10.4 on the new drive. Seems to be a lot faster then my old drive! I did the combo updater (which I downloaded on my iMac and transfered to a flash drive and loaded on to my iBook) Ran the updater, and now it is running 10.4.11! But then I realized, the Airport card is STILL not detected in Tiger!!! - I thought the new hard drive would solve all my problems as I was staring from scratch, but no, there is still a problem!
I ran the Apple hardware test disk again, full test, and it said my Airport card is still fine. I didn't reinstall 10.1 yet (nor did I want to, I was hoping Tiger would work for what I wanted) but it seems now that I might have to go back and install 10.1 again. I don't know what it will prove - other then it will work again, but I don't want to use 10.1 so I'm not going to bother doing all that again.
Anyways, after looking into this further, I brought up the system boot log (of tiger) and found these lines interesting, and hopefully useful to you guys:
localhost kernel[0]: AirPortFirmware: start Sta f/w download
localhost kernel[0]: AirPortDriver: F/W download failed
localhost kernel[0]: AirPortFirmware: start Sta f/w download
    localhost DirectoryService[64]: Lunched version 1.8 (v346)
localhost kernel[0]: AirPortDriver: F/W download failed
it then lists the eithernet address and then ramblers on about other nonsense. If anyone needs the other "stuff" i'll try and save the whole log file and attach it here if anyone needs it.
So could anyone please help? It seems as if i've done everything, and still can not get an answer on why it is doing this, and how to fix it!
    Please Help!
Thanks you so much, and sorry for the long yet detailed message!!!
    -Scott

Hey, just wanted to post an update to let everyone know what I ended up doing.
Bottom line with the airport card I had is that is was "bad" - well only kind of. I got an email from a guy from a local PC repair shop. He told me he had just gotten one of those cards in and had it for sale for only $25. So I was chatting with this guy and he said it would be alright if I brought my iBook right in his shop, swap the cards and try it before I buy it. So I did so. Very nice guy and we swapped out the cards no problem. Right away it recognized his card and worked! I then downloaded the Airport update and ran it. (remember before, when I tried to update my card, after it restarted it was no longer recognized.) So we did the update with HIS card in and after it restarted, it STILL worked! It also added WPA support as well! We then booted into to Tiger (remember the old card wasn't recognized at all in tiger) and it ALSO worked in Tiger! I also had WPA support right away! So I bought the card and was all happy that it was all working again! I then figured out what the problem was with the old one.
My original card was one of the "original" originals. Then, Apple "changed" the original cards and replaced ones with "128bit" support. (this is all before the extreme cards) I then found out that the newer original cards (the one the guy just sold me) are worth MORE because these are the cards that are compatible with the newer update (128bit WEP, and WPA) The cards looked exactly the same, but the newer card has "128 Bit" printed on the bottom of the card.
SO, it ended up, I was "asking too much" out of the card I had - as the card I had did not support what I was trying for it to do. Where as the newer card I bought IS compatible with the update, and worked like a piece of cake. So all in all, the first card I had isn't "dead" it just wasn't working with what I wanted it to. So I'm going to end up selling it. Hopefully craigslist, but I will get more for it on eBay. so that is what I'm going to do. I'll just make sure to tell people this "story" so they don't try and do the same thing I did. But for someone with an even older laptop, an older OS, or an older router, this card will work just fine for them.
So thats basically it! Looks like I got everything working!

  • X-FI Xtreme Music not detected by Win

My Creative X-FI Xtreme Music is not detected by Windows XP with SP2.
    what I have tried:
) connected the X-FI to each of the 3 PCI slots
    2) installed latest nForce and VGA drivers
    3) installed latest BIOS (version 04)
    4) uncompressed the SB driver exe file and executed SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_09_000\Src\Drivers\setup.exe directly
The soundcard works fine on a PC with an old ASUS A7V-266 motherboard! Why is that?
    system specs:
    ASUS A8N-SLI
    athlon 64 3000+
    evga 7600GT
    RAM 52 MB

I had a similar problem that my ASUS A8N-VM CSM board didn't detect my X-FI card properly and the driver setup ended with a blue screen / reboot of my machine.
A lot of boards with NVidia chipsets of the 4series seems to have that problem.
With my ASUS A8N-VM CSM I found a solution: updated BIOS to beta version 002 and disabled the onboard IEEE394 (firewire) interface in the BIOS setup. After that I installed the X-FI without any further problems and it's now running very well.

  • HTML5 Audio/Video Not working at all on new Windows 7 install

I'm the developer of jPlayer, a plugin for jQuery and my recent testing a new laptop on Windows 7 Ultimate, Safari 5.0.1 found that the audio and video HTML5 elements do not work at all.
    http://www.happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/
    http://www.happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/HTML5.Audio.Support/
My plugin checks for the mediaElement.canPlayType() method and if it exists it then checks the suitable MIME types for compatibility. But that is just the fine details. Basically, the Safari 5.0.1 browser installed on Windows 7, without any of the audio or video support.
Testing on other sites around the web also showed that this install did not include those parts of the HTML5 spec. No idea why. I installed it off the apple/safari site and it is fully updated. Chrome 5, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.6 all worked fine.
Example of other sites used to check:
    http://www.html5rocks.com/tutorials/video/basics/
By comparison, my old Windows XP machine works fine with Safari 5.0.1 and has had a version of safari installed on the machine since Safari 3.
Side note, the Mac versions of all the browsers work fine. Also the iPad emulator shows everything works.
Any ideas what went wrong with my install on Windows 7?
    Best regards,
    Mark P

I am looking at this issue too. I installed Safari 5.0.1 on Windows XP on two different machines. In these cases I found that the .canPlayType() always returns undefined on an audio element. So http://www.happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/HTML5.Audio.Support/ showed that no support for HTML5 audio was found. ( http://twitpic.com/2f16nh )
Both installations were clean installs and it was also the first time Safari had been installed on both XP installations.
I don't see these issues on OSX 10.6.4 and others have reported that it worked under Windows 7. My guess then is that is something to do with new installs and not OS.

  • Canon MX870 is not detected by Yosemite after new driver installed

I just downloaded and installed the new Canon drivers from their website that are supposed to support Scanner/Printer functions for my MX870 with Yosemite, but when I go to Settings for Printer/Scanner and try to add the printer from the wireless network, the computer does not detect it.
Anyone know what else I can do, or if I'm doing something wrong here?

    Hi JordoGelbo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are trying to set up a printer wirelessly, first take a look at the guide found at this link:
OS X Yosemite: Add or remove a printer
You can review the steps in the "Add a Wi-Fi or network printer" section to make sure your printer is being properly set up.
If the printer is still not visible, the section called "Add a network printer by its IP address" can be helpful.

  • Music Not Displaying In All My Files

    Hi,
I have over 1300 songs in my iTunes library but when I open a new finder window and navigate to 'All My Files' only 53 files show up that are all in my Dropbox folders. I have checked the spotilght search privacy and my iTunes is not in the list for not searching. I imported my music from an external hard drive and straight into the automatically add to iTunes folder and downloaded a couple of hundred songs from the iTunes Store that I have purchased. None of these songs are showing up in the 'All My Files' section of the finder window

Because iPhoto (and I imagine Lightroom) makes copies of the photos you edit so you can always revert back to the original. All My Files searches for all files, regardless if the are duplicates.

  • Cover Flow in Music not working at all, please assist

Hi there, I bought an iPhone 4 yesterday and updated to IOS 5 as soon it was plugged into the computer. I have noticed that when I am in the Music app, when I turn the phone to landscape, it does not switch to Cover Flow. It just stays in portait, no change. Obviously not an ESSENTIAL feature, but one I enjoy very much with my iPod, and one that I know should come with the phone. I image the solution is to revert to IOS 4, but I'd like to avoid that. Any solutions?

Is portrait orientation locked? Double tap home button and slide to the right until you see the last icon on the left. If this is locked, tap it and hopefully cover flow will work.

  • Music not showing at all on Windows 8

I have just got a new laptop with Windows 8 and it shows the films I have bought in itunes but no music at all. Any ideas?  They all show on my ipod no problem.

hi mate have u checked yoiu are up to date with the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store, and also that you are up to date with the latest firmware? also try and check that the memory card is working on your PC or other device. bear in mind that with WP8.1 and Cyan, you can install apps to SD card.

  • Adobe flash installed but not detected by all Browsers

OK I am running Vista 64bit with ie8 firebox and chrome have the latest version of flash player 11.
I have uninstalled it reinstalled flash 11 fine.... but going to youtube or any other site that uses flash player it asked to install. this happens on all browsers I tried on. please help asap
    Dre

IE, Firefox and Chrome all use a different version of Flash.
IE requires the ActiveX version while Firefox doesn't. They both use a plugin though. You can get them both from here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
In Google Chrome, the Flash player is embedded and you get it when you install that browser whether you want it or not. It auto updates in the background, so you don't have to bother with that aspect.

  • IPad charges on mains but is not detected at all on PC

Got an iPad here, the issue is that when I plug it into any of my mains chargers, it manages to charge and shows this on the icon at the top right.
And though the iPad is at the connect to iTunes screen, it doesn't charge or show up on any of my computers with iTunes installed.
Also, please don't tell me to just send it to Apple, as I am willing to make repairs myself if that is where the issue might lie.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • How may I prevent loss of Music - not from iTunes - on a new computer?

The original iTunes Library I had for my iPod Touch was on a computer that has broken down.
I am concerned about what I'm reading in the iTunes HELP files, because I see no way to prevent loss of my non-purchased (at least from iTunes) music when syncing with a newly authorized computer. I do not have all of the original CDs anymore for most of this music.
I have just installed iTunes on this new computer & wish to save ALL current iPod Touch content into this new and empty iTunes Library!  What must I do to save my non-purshased content?
I did just do a BACKUP of my iPod contents but have stopped there, not knowing if it will contain everything...  What now?
    THANKS!

Well, I really do appreciate your input Kappy.  When it comes to doing backups, your info is correct and, in general, very helpful.  I am suspicious, however if it will actually have any bearing on the iTunes interaction and what iTunes will allow me to place into the new library.
As for iTunes and what it will allow - or not allow, I'm not sure that the backup will allow me to slip it into the library per se.  I thinking that it's an iTunes issue instead of a backup issue, but maybe not...
If I had any other model than a Touch, I believe I could use the iPod as a hard drive and transfer accordingly, but having a Touch, I do think my original question remains unanswered.
    Thanks again!

  • Music not restoring from backup during new iPhone 5 setup

Quick question.  Recently puchased iPhone5 and need to transfer everything from old iPhone4.  I've performed a manual backup in iTunes.  When connecting the new phone and selecting restore from backup, it restores everything but the music and the playlists.  I have no idea why.  This process worked with my phone, but when it comes to my wifes the music never restores.  The only difference between the 2 devices is that she likes to manully manage her music, so the sync only checked items and the sync music boxes are unchecked.  I don't see why this would prevent the music from being backed up though.  Any suggestions?

    rockmyplimsoul wrote:
Instead of manually managing the music on your iPhone, manually manage the contents of a playlist and auto-sync to that playlist.  You're doing the same thing, just managing a playlist instead of your phone.  The beauty of this is that you never lose track of what you manually chose to sync to your iPhone.
Oh that's what I do now, lol. I just (naively) assumed that my phone was doing that for me, so to speak. When I first put music on my phone (manually) I assumed that if I manually synced my music, the information relating thereto would be included in my backup data. If I had known it wasn't, I would have dumped all my songs into an "iPhone" playlist and then copied that playlist to my phone. Problem solved. I just didn't know that at the time.
iTunes, and Apple in general, does so many good things that this clearly isn't a huge complaint. But it strikes me that most people who manually selected their "iPhone" music probably don't want to "lose" that carefully selected music when they upgrade their phone. And maybe I'm an idiot but it took me a little digging to wind up here to find out why my music hadn't transferred, and how to go about "rectifying" it (ie you bloody can't, really, you just start anew).
Maybe I'm asking too much, but I find it strange that there isn't an import feature on the iPhone - provided the corresponding file is found on the iTunes being used. Especially since it's the same computer the phone is synced to, to begin with. A) I'm giving music to myself, B) I'm not even giving myself music, because I already have the corresponding music in iTunes, so there's clearly no threat of file-sharing. Barring that, maybe a warning when you choose to manually sync music to your phone. (Apologies to Apple if I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing one.)
Again, this clearly didn't ruin my life, but everything on my phone synced seamlessly except my music. It only took me 15 minutes or so to recreate my iPhone playlist, but it took me a good hour to figure out why I had to (and how to avoid having to in the future). It was a strange hiccup from a company that pretty much always makes my life easier (unless I need to run Flash).
In the end I got to read a bunch of Allan's posts, which did provide some entertainment

  • Airport Extreme doesn't detect Netgear -I'm new

I'm so totally new to Macs and I ended up with 2 of them. My Macbook (new) detects our Century-tel wireless signal from the Netgear hub just fine. But the G5 I inherited can't connect. Here's what I know: the G5 is a Panther; has airport extreme, don't know which v. but I see 802.1x. It says airport is on, but I can't connnect to anything. Is there place I can go for easy set-up instructions? I mean EASY - I don't understand any of the terminology. I'm not sure which OSX I have, either. Sorry, and please help.-lcstock

  • No WiFi icon and not detecting any networks on new ipad 2

    Hi
    I have a new ipad 2 16G wifi.
I went through all the setup but have been unable to connect to any networks.
    I have updated software
    I have restored
I have turned router on / off
    I have made router public
I have tried to specify the network
    I have reset
I have turned WiFi on i pad on / off
All i get is the the little grey spinning wheel.
Iphone 4, all other wireless devices etc work fine on this network.
Any suggestions?  i can see that the wireless icon has disappeared for some people when updating software, but i have never had the wifi icon on, despite it saying that wifi is switched on!
I am starting to think that there may actually just be a fault with the ipad itself....

There is no network to forget.
When i try and choose other and mannually input details when i select join it says "Could not scan for wireless networks"
