X-fi extreme's provided softw

Does any one know if the software that comes with the soundcard has problems? It seems that my programs freeze up often. Names the console and mode switcher. They seem to freeze up after a while and it causes the computer to go nuts. It will cause no other programs to open and being unable to shut down. Does the driver update resolve this or is this a normal thing? I have the A8n-sli deluxe MB, AMD 3800+, 2 Gigs of ram and a nvidia 7800gtx Vid card. What gives?

it hpapened on my old AMD computer now its hpapening again on my new Intel one all because of this software...
i've narrowed it down to the software... ONLY happens when i install from the CD provided with my x-fi xtrememusic

  • How to get Airport Extreme to Provide DNS for Static DHCP

I set up some static DHCP entries on my Airport Extreme 802.11n.  How do I make it provide DNS resolution for these devices?
For example, I defined a device which I named "tvpc".  With my old router, once I added a static DHCP reservation and provided it with a name, I could "ping tvpc" from any device on my network, and my old router would provide the DNS resolution, because it provided DNS service for all DHCP entries.
I suspect that the answer is, "Apple routers don't do this."  If that is the case, how do other people get name resolution for the non-Apple devices you set up with static DHCP?  Do you use /etc/hosts files?

    They don't.
Suggest that you use another router with the capabilities that you need.

  • How do I set up my AirPort Extreme  to provide IP addresses without being connected to the Internet?

II'm trying to set up my AirPort Extreme in the field without an Internet connection so that devises can communicate wirelessly but there aren't any IP addresses being generated

Just run the AE in router mode.. if you have difficult with the setup do it completely manually..
This is how I do it.
Airtport Utility can't find Airport Time Capsule on either of my 2009 Macs
As long as the AE is running in DHCP and NAT mode it will produce IP addresses.. however you cannot turn off WAN.
You could give it a static IP .. so set to static instead of dhcp if you like.. eg.
DNS and WAN errors.. double NAT, Ethernet unplugged, etc.. so it makes no real difference..
The AE will function fine as router (Wireless AP) to your network however..
    Just ignore all the errors.

  • How do I Set up airport extreme with existing fios wireles network

Hello al, l I have an existing wireless network with an arcitonic  wireless router provider with my fios tv. Everything is working well. Now I want to add airport extreme to increase my network range and later add apple tv /net flicks  I,m not great with this stuff. Some wold be great.

You will need to establish a permanent Ethernet cable connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Fios router to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme and then configure the AriPort Extreme to "Create a wireless network".
You can configure the AirPort Extreme to provide another separate wireless network if you wish, or if you assign the same wireless network name, and use the same security setting and password that the Fios is using, the Extreme will provide more wireless coverage....and you won't have to change wireless networks to connect to the wireless on the Extreme.
Follow the guided setup using AirPort Utility to "create a wireless network". The setup will suggest that you configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode, which would be the correct setting when used with the Fios router.

  • New airport extreme network very slow

I just bought the latest AE base station dual band, but am having trouble with the speeds. We have on the network:
1 macbook pro, 1 windows pc, 2 ipads, 1 ipad mini, 1 kindle fire, 2 iphones, 2 ipods (wow we have a lot of products I just realized now that I am writing them all down) a Wii console and 1 mac desktop computer. Oh and I have an airport express in another room set up to extend the netowrk.
Not all of them are on the network simultaneously.
Using the Airport utility (windows version) I have set up the network trying different configurations. Currently I have it set up as:
    Radio mode: automatic
    Radio channel selection: automatic
    wireless security: WPA2 Personal
network options are 5 Ghz is unchecked
    country is US
    multicast rate: low
    transmit power: 100%
WPA Group Key Timeout: 2 hours
    use wide channels is checked
All devices can connect to the net, but speeds are at old dial up levels and that of course was NOT my intention in getting the latest router.
Any advice from those who understand things like multicast rate?

You either have a defective base station, it is not set up properly, or there is some form of Wi-Fi interference that is preventing your new AirPort Extreme from providing a clean signal.
What make & model was the router that you are replacing with the 802.11ac AirPort Extreme?

  • Trouble with internet connection when using extreme to join wireless network

I have an airport extreme that I want to use as an ethernet hub.  I have successfully connected it to my wireless modem, and I have a solid green light; however, when I connected the ethernet to my tv/computer/anything there is no internet connection.  I tried powering down everything in order and rebooting as appropriate modem then router then computer, but still not internet connection.  Any suggestions.

The AirPort Extreme does not provide any routing functions when it is configured to "join a wireless network", so the Ethernet ports are not active in this type of setup. The only thing that really functions is the USB port, which could be used for a remote printer or hard drive.
If you have another Apple "n" wireless router acting as your main base station, you can configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". The Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup....and the Extreme will provide more wireless coverage in the area where it is located.

  • Can I create a unique subnetwork when extending a wireless network using Airport Extreme?

My office building has an Airport Extreme to provide wifi to our individual suites.  I would like to create a sub-network using my Airport Extreme for my suite only that uses the wifi signal from our office building and provides internet to the computers (both wired and wireless) in my suite but have it protected so that other suites in my building can't see my computers.  Is this possible and how do I do it?  I have currently set up my Airport Extreme in wifi-mode "extending a previous wireless network" and have the router with its unique router name.  But once I extended the wireless network, I could not find the network name of my router, only the office name (the one I was extending).  The computers connected via ethernet to my Airport have internet access but none of my wireless computers see my airport name, it sees the office building network name.  I'm assuming they are connecting to my Airport since the signal level is much higher than before and it appears that my Airport is rebroadcasting the network name of my office building.  Is there a way to have my Airport broadcast its unique identifier for wifi, still connect to the internet via wifi signal to the Office building airport and maintain segregation between my computers and the rest of my office building?
Also, when I use the Airport Utility on my Iphone, I see the internet -> the office airport extreme -> and then 2 different base stations connected in a Y.  Mine and my neighbors (who is probably doing the same thing as I am).  But there is a dotted line to my base station, does that mean I'm connected to the internet via my neighbor's airport?
    Any thoughts?

I would like to create a sub-network using my Airport Extreme for my suite only that uses the wifi signal from our office building and provides internet to the computers (both wired and wireless) in my suite but have it protected so that other suites in my building can't see my computers.
It is not possible to configure a single Apple AirPort router in this manner using wireless only, but it would be possible to do this with a single AirPort if you connect your AirPort Extreme to the "main" router using a wired Ethernet connection.
As for wireless only....you could probably do what you want by using two Apple routers....an AirPort Express to join the wireless network and provide an Ethernet signal to the AirPort Extreme's WAN port. Then the AirPort Extreme could then be configured to provide a separate network using a different subnet.
Users on the "main" network would not be able to "see" any devices on your "private" network and vice versa.
I use the two router set up all the time at hotels that only provide a wireless signal. The first Express "joins" the wireless network and feeds an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort which is configured to "create a wireless network" in router mode.
This way, I can connect multiple devices to my "private" network, but only pay the hotel for one connection since the hotel router only "sees" the AirPort Express that joins the network.

  • How do I use Airport Extreme to create wired access point on wireless network?

Bit of an odd situation. I just went from cable to DSL at home and the modem moved from right by my computer to upstairs.
Trouble is, there's no real easy way to get a cable from the modem upstairs to my X-box (sans wireless connector) downstairs.
I could buy the wireless adaptor for the X-Box, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend any more money.
I have my airport extreme, and I was hoping I could use it to create a wired access point on the network, recieving the signal from the wireless modem upstairs and allowing me to plug in the X-Box.
Is this possible? If so, how? I've been through the config panel about a dozen times, but can't figure out what combination to set up.
    Thanks.

Will it work if I use the express to create the network?
Yes, providing that you have an 802.11n version of the AirPort Express and the Express has been configured to "Allow this network to be extended".
Then, the AirPort Extreme can be configured to "extend" the Express network. When you do this, the AirPort Extreme will provide more wireless coverage and the LAN Ethernet ports are enabled, so you can connect an Ethernet device.
This will not be a "normal" Ethernet connection. It will only work as well as the wireless "hop" between the Express and Extreme allow.
For best results and performance, a wired connection through the hole in the wall is always best. If you decide to do this, you will need the "new" AirPort Express with both a WAN and LAN port on the device. But, you could try wireless first to see if it will meet your goals before you reach for the tools.

  • Using Airport Extreme to share a single WiFi account (in a hotel)

An increasing number of hotels are now charging for every device that you use to connect to the Internet via WiFi. I understand that I shoud be able to connect to a hotel WiFi using a MacBook Air and using an AirPort Extreme and Internet Sharing be able to create my own network.
I am having difficulty getting this to work. My MacBook Air is connected to my WiFi and is working well. I have an ethernet cable going from the Internet WAN port on the Extreme to my Thunderbolt ethernet on the MacBook Air. Is this correct or should I connect via one of the ethernet ports?
    Questions re. Mac side:
    1) In Sharing  (System Preferences) I have Internet Sharing enabled and Sharing from WiFi to computers using Thunderbolt Ethernet
    2) In Network (System Preferences), how should Thunderbolt Ethernet be configured, "Using DHCP" or manual? I am getting a status connected message
    Questions re. Extreme
    1) Using AirPort Utility, in the Internet settings, I have DHCP selected, I assume that this is correct?
    2) In Wireless I have Network Mode as "Create a wireless network"
    3) Not sure what to select under Network, Bridge Mode, DHCP only or DHCP and NAT?
    Any advice??

Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port in the hotel room to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme wireless router. An AirPort Express router will work as well for this. So will a Time Capsule.
    http://www.apple.com/wifi/
Configure the AirPort Exteme to "create a wireless network".
Configure the AirPort Extreme to operate as a router providing DHCP and NAT service, which is the default configuration of the AirPort Extreme.
Connect your computer to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme is producing
Open your Internet browser. You are on the Internet. If the hotel's log in page appears, enter your credentials and agree to terms, etc.
Connect any other wireless devices that you have to the same wireless network that the AirPort Extreme is providing
The hotel network will charge you for one connection.
This works in just about any hotel where I have ever stayed, but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.

  • Airport extreme and windows vista/8 computers

Are there any issues with the new airport extreme ac and windows based computers here?

You only need one device with AirPort Utility installed on it to configure the new AirPort Extreme.
As I mentioned above, this could be a Mac running the Lion or Mountain Lion operating system, or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
You only need to install AirPort Utility on a device if you want to use that device to 1) set up the AirPort Extreme originally, or 2) make changes to the original configuration at a later time.
AirPort Utility is not needed if you simply want to connect a PC...or any other wireless device.....to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme is providing.
If someone told you that AirPort Utility was needed on the PC for it to be able to connect to the AirPort Extreme wireless network, they were wrong.
Currently, with relatives visiting, there are 3 PCs here at the house....none of which have AirPort Utility installed on them. But they all connect just fine to the wireless network provided by the new AirPort Extreme here.

  • Can you use airport extreme as a bridge to netgear wdnr4500 wireless router

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.I need to extend my wireless connections to the other side of the house

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.
This is extremely unlikely. The AirPort Extreme can provide this function with other Apple routers, but as far we know, it is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for this purpose.
Suggest that you use a Netgear product for the best chance of compatibility.

  • Only Apple products will connect to Airport Extreme

Until a couple of weeks ago all was fine with my Airport Extreme.  Now, only our Ipad2 and Iphone5 will connect, my laptop and blackberry cannot (they were ok before).
The AX is setup in bridge mode and is working fine for the ipad and iphone but my laptop and BB don't even see the AX when i scan for wifi networks.  I have done a couple of power cycles and turned off my bitdefender firewall but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

have you configured your Airport extreme to provide addresses via DHCP?
    If your WiFi settings are:
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.4
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 10.0.1.1
    DNS Server: 10.0.1.1
and WiFi is working with no problems
then having the same settings, just different IP address' last digit should work for Ethernet...
Have you connected the Ethernet cable to the computer as well as the Airport Extreme ?
Alternatively, you may change DNS server address to 8.8.8.8

  • AirPort Extreme bast station 4 support for PB G4 power pc??

I am in the market for a wireless network. I've read that Apple is hard at work on AEX4 with MIMO technology. I don't mind waiting, but wonder if I even should since I also read that Apple has been quietly integrating support for pre-n on new macbooks, which lead me to believe that a power pc with an Airport extreme wireless card won't support pre-n rates anyway. If true then I'd be well enough to invest in 802.11g. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
    Jeff

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Channel on apple extreme & roku compatibility

My airport extreme is set to Automatic for both 2.4 Ghz & 5 Ghz wireless channels.  But recently, my Roku has been unable to connect to the internet (it connects to the wireless network & the local network, but not the internet). A roku customer service rep suggested changing my airport extreme's wireless channel on the 2.4 Ghz band from Automatic to either channel 1, 6, 9, or 11.
Should I do this?  Under its current setting (with automatic channel on both the 2.4 & 5 Ghz), the extreme is providing excellent wireless internet connectivity for my iMac and iBook.  So quite frankly, I'm not eager to change a thing!
Would appreciate any advice, similar experience info!

Since you claim that the Roku can access the AirPort but not the Internet, changing channels will most likely not help. The key is to find out what the Roku is getting for DNS servers. These should match what your other network clients are getting.

  • IP Configuration issue with Airport Extreme

When configuring my Airport Extreme to use the AT&T  DSL internet connection, an IP Configuration conflict is reported.  My IP address is shown as in use by the Ethernet ID - DHCP Server.  As a consequence, the Airport is not reporting an IP address to allow an internet connection.   Here is the actual message:
192.168.1.64 in use by d8:a2:5e:7a:6e:35, DHCP Server 192.168.1.254
Hard re-starting the AIrport Extreme does not shake this configuration error.
I am now connecting successfully to the internet with an ethernet connection to the AT&T modem.
    Thanks.

Check out this thread for some interesting items.  The same instructions work for several users...but not another.
Re: AirPort Extreme Set Up Issue
AT&T wants this modem and router to work using DHCP - Bridge mode.
Not sure what you mean here.
This modem will not work correctly with an AirPort Extreme unless you put the modem in Bridge Mode or PPP is on the Router and then configure the AirPort Extreme to provide the PPPoE service.
I pulled out my old 2210 to test and confirm. Everything works just fine the way that AT&T recommends.
I think you will have nothing but headaches if you try to configure the modem for PPP is on the modem.  Even if you can get the DHCP issues ironed out, a Double NAT error remains.
