X-FI ExtremeMusic and Nforc

Alright. This card was working with my old motherboard just fine but now I am having some problems.
Here are my specs.
Windows XP PRO
DFI Lanparty UT Sli-DR Expert nforce4
4400+ X2
2xgb g.skill performance
2x 320gb seagate raid0
700watt ocz psu
8800 gts
X-FI ExtremeMusic
Alright here is the problem. When I put the card in my computer the system tells me that it found a new hardware blah blah blah. Everything is fine to that point. Then I try to install the drivers from the CD. And BANG my computer freezes and I have to restart. Back in windows and it tells me that it can't find the device drivers aren't installed blah blah blah. Alright so I went to the creative website and downloaded the latest software hoping that this would fix the problem. And same thing happens, comp freezes and I have to restart. So there is no way for me to install the drivers. Is this a known issue? What can I do to fix that? Send the card in for a new one with a new firmware? Onboard sound works just fine.
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

this might help but no guarantees!
your saying the "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" wizard never comes up then it sounds to me that you need to finish uninstalling your old soundcard!?. Check add or remove programs for old and new soundcard!2.Get drivercleaner pro and remove all creative audio and creative audio lite!3.delete the creative folder......windows explorer/local disc C:/program files/and creative should be right there!4.reboot your system5.found new hardware should come up?like i said hope this helps!

• X-FI ExtremeMusic and old Live Drive

Hi, I have purchased an X-FI ExtremeMusic card. I have an old front bay Li've Dri've II?connection box from my old SoundBlaster Li've! PlatinumI know the pin-outs are different. If you look at the following links, they show the pin-outs for the X-Fi?http://pinouts.ru/Multimedia/sb_audi...t_pinout.shtml?and previous to the audigy2, which I'm assuming would include my dri've bay. http://pinouts.ru/Multimedia/creative_int_pinout.shtml?I'm thinking that if I cut the connecting cable wires, and re-connect so that the same signal pins are connected, I can use the old dri've bay.Anyone attempted this or have any comments.cheers, nick

• Problems with Samsung dvd and nforce drivers..

Something funny with my pc.
I just got everythng and insalled Wiin xp. Everything working..
both of my cd rom drives show up
1 lite-on cdr
1 samsung dvd 606f
then I install Nforce driver pack from Nvidia and everything works ... but
with Nforce ide controller idriver installed ....
Only one of my drives is detected.
1 lite-on CDR
no DVD
If i switch it back to windows standard IDE Primary and Secondary drivers it comes back..
Any thoughts.....
specks below

the Nforce drivers tend to be a bit picky about jumper settings ensure that your optiacal drive jumpers are set to master & slave. Nvidia doesnt work to well with cls. Alternatively you can just run wwith the MS ide drivers.

• AMD64 and NForce tips for EQ2 and WoW players

I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum and play a lot of MMORPGs. Have two tips that helped me solve problems with the two newest games in that area.
With EQ2 some times my character would start running in slow motion. This was not normal graphic lag. Frame rates would actually remain fairly good. Character just moved in slow motion. Found on the boards many people with intel lap tops having this same problem. Someone figured out their CPU speed was going down during these times of slow motion. So I turned off Cool & Quiet in my bios and my slow motion problems went away. Is a shame because did not have C&Q problems with anything else.
With WoW I had a problem after completing a quests NPCs would no longer communicate and I could not log out. Other play would appear normal like MOB and players would continue to move around but after a few minutes would be disconnected from the server. Strangely mostly this problem only happened when playing Horde. Many others were having this same issue on the tech support board. For NForce chipset users what turned out to be the solution was going to Ethernet Settings---->Advanced Configuration--->Checksum Offload and turning if off. Don't know for sure buy my guess is my internet packets are a bit slower now as the downside to this fix.

ive been cranking through wow for awhile now. and have not seen this problem you describe.  however im a nightelf.
but thank you for sharing your insight and the first time this happens now ill who too despise and what to fix
cuz that very type of problem would be very unthinkable almost  to trace back to mobo eth settings.  without the common denominator on the tech support board.

If you are up for the battle that MIGHT transpire with either one of these cards then your welcome to it. EAX will work on games that nati'vely support EAX and the openAL API. Games that are direct sound only will require the ALchemy program to make them work correctly. You can find a list of openAL nati've games on the openAL site...sorry don't have a link for you right now but google it. You might be able to find the list of Direct SOund games that ALchemy works on by going to the ALchemy site as well.
For the most part, stuff is working but I would highly advise you do more research before purchasing any sound cards from Creative. Just check the forums and look under the Vista posts as well as here to get a taste of the issues many are having.

• Windows XP - Thumbnails and nForce in general

For some reason when I select a video file (mpg or divx so far, probably most others too) and XP does it's thing to retrieve the thumbnail and details I have explorer getting locked into a loop and taking 100% of my CPU time as well as the RAM usage escalating. This only used to happen on bad files when I had a K7N420 Pro. Now I've upgraded to a K7N2G-ILSR, same RAM, same CPU, I get the same problem but massively worse. It now gets into this with absolutely any video file.
I'm wondering if this is a compatibility problem or if I just haven't got somethign setup right.
MJC
My system.
K7N2G-ILSR

Realtek RTL8139 NIC

Windows XP keeps a record of all files on the hard disk so when you do a search on the hard drive it is faster.  There is a downside to this and because the computer has to index all files, it will slow down normal file commands like open, close, etc.  If you do not do a whole lot of searches on your hard drive then you may want to turn this feature off:
Open My Computer.
Right-click your hard drive icon and select Properties.
At the bottom of the window you'll see "Allow indexing service to index this disk for faster searches," uncheck this and click ok.
A new window will pop up and select Apply to all folders and subfolders.
It will take a minute or two for the changes  to take affect but then you should enjoy slightly faster performance.
If that does not help try running sfc/scannow in the command line...just make sure you have the xp cd in the rom drive.

• Popping Noise in Game-Mode with X-Fi Platinum and Nforce 5 Mo

Hello!
After buying a Nforce5 Motherboard everything worked fine-except the thing that sometimes there is a popping noise in game mode (only game mode!!) till i reboot. I think i can li've with it but it is very annoying to restart the comp one time every day just to remove the popping noise from my ears.
I have the newest BIOS, drivers and looked if theres an IRQ conflict!
Thanks!Message Edited by wieland_mail2 on 0-3-200703:5 AM

Hi coolbreeze,
As you can see from other forum posts there are users experiencing crackling and popping with the NF 3 and NF 4 chipsets and the X-Fi. There should be no problems but it's better you are aware of a potential problem. I've noticed from your post you're in the America's. Don't you have a seven-day return to dealer clause/law there if I'm not correct?
Regarding sound quality I'm obviously biased so maybe some other forum users can help you on this.

• Windows 7 and classpnp.sys safe mode loop.

Hello,
First of all this is an outline to the system I am running.
Acer Aspire X1800
Brought as a Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, has now been upgraded to the equivalent in Windows 7.
Intel® Core™2 Quad processor
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7100 and nForce® 630i
4 GB of DDR2 667/800 MHz SDRAM (single-channel support on two DIMMs)
Serial ATA hard disk 1 TB
AMI PnP BIOS compatible with SMBIOS 2.4
PCI Express® 2.0 x16 slot
PCI Express® 2.0 x1 slot
Integrated NVIDIA® GeForce® 7100 graphics solution
PCI Express® 2.0 x16 graphics card support (low-profile)
I have been running Windows 7 now for some time a month or two and have no problems until now. I wanted to put my computer into safe mode so I can install the second disc of Fallout 3 Game of the year Edition. Frist of all I restarted the computer and used the F8 trick which did not work. The computer just booted into regular old Windows 7. So then I went through the msconfig way of things.
Now it is important to note that I had this problem when installing Fallout 3 on the same machine but running Vista. However the computer managed to "fix" it self back then.
The computer loads through all the drivers until it gets to C:\windows\system32\drivers\classpnp.sys
It stops loading here and tries to go into safe mode. The computer then comes up with a message saying entering Windows safe mode (or words to that effect) and lists some of the system details. The screen then changes to a blank screen with a mouse cursor in the middle of it. The computer then shuts down and begins to restart itself. It has gone into a infinite loop of restarts.
Ideas I have tried.
Pressing F8 brings up the boot menu, i have tried all options available in that. Nothing worked.
Interrupting the start up with a fake power cut. This resulted in the computer showing two options. Start Windows normally and start Windows recovery. Neither worked.
I have tried renaming the problem file C:\windows\system32\drivers\classpnp.sys to C:\windows\system32\drivers\classpnp.old
This resulted in the computer loading until the next value C:\windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys The computer then did all the usual loading. However before restarting the it showed the dreaded blue screen of death. It was over before i could see the error message that it contained.
I have tried resetting to a prior system date. this does not work either.
Other than that I have not been able to get into windows or anything else. The reason I am able to post this is a have access to another computer for the mean time.
Any ideas on this would very appreciated
Cheers
*EDIT*
Because the computer is Acer it should have a working E Recovery on it. However i can't remember if i deleted this or not. Will try using the hidden partition in the near future. This will most likely send me back to Vista but its a risk I am willing to take at this stage.

Hello Limbix
Thank you for your initial problem and the follow-up discussion on such a conundrum of a problem. As evidenced by the number of hits under Google for "Windows 7 boot sequence classpnp.sys" and 0 fixes, this problem is systematic of this OS. As
such, this is a ticking time bomb waiting for the most inopportune time to strike.
Furthmore, this problem has been known since RC1 of Windows 7. The problem still persists and there is no known remediation method.
KB 925810 is a unique solution when the OS is healthy. When this phenomena occurs, KB 925810 is a hoax for Laptop users and systems purchased from a vendor without a hardcopy of the OS media. For Home builts with a purchased hardcopy of the OS, KB 925810
is the option. But the option is to reinstall as opposed to a repair.
Using Ubuntu, to effect change by replacing CLASSPNP.SYS with a 6.1.7600.16385 version has produced mixed results. In addition, the method of downloading any file is fraught with problems of possible infection or worse yet a trojan. This essentially
leaves Option 2 and 4 as the SOP for this OS failure mode on laptops.
Problem:
New Toshiba A500 i7 with 8 Gig - Windows 7 Professional (Business)
A series of three critical patches were deployed to this machine at 9:30 pm on 5/26/2010 from Windows Update.  At 6:30 am 5/27/2010, the machine was discovered to have restarted and was stuck at the Starting Windows logo. Here were
the initial steps taken to remediate the problem.
Step 1. CTRL-ALT-DEL was used multiple times to restart the machine.
Results: The machine did not restart.
Step 2. Power recycled the machine.  Windows 7 offered to Launch Windows Repair on the OS. The repair was selected and completed with a request to restart.
Results: The machine stops at the Starting Windows logo. Still stuck.
Step 3. Restarted the machine through a power recycle. Pressed F8, selected last known good and restarted.
Results:  The machine stops at the Starting Windows logo. Still stuck.
Step 4. Restarted the machine through a power recycle. Pressed F8, selected Advanced options.
Results: No options were available.
Step 5. Restarted the machine through a power recycle. Pressed F8, selected Boot loggin and restarted.
Results: The machine stops at the Starting Windows logo. Still stuck.
Step 6. Restarted the machine through a power recycle. Pressed F8, selected Safe Mode with Networking.
Results: The machine's last entry for the loading list was on
CLASSPNP.SYS and hung up.
Step 7. Began researching for the Windows 7 boot loading list for the before and after sequences to see if CLASSPNP.SYS was the culprit.
Results: Found this discussion and many more. Spent too much time researching for a solution. Most ended in silence.
Step 8. Considered taking the STATA drive and putting into an external enclosure.
Results: Did not take this step as the machine is under warranty. It was purchased in April, 2010.
Step 9. Going back over the Google research, discussion
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/64a52415-f9aa-448e-b79c-f4d9d27836c3 has Moderator Tim Quan MSFT stating that
"To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request, please refer to the website listed below:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS"
This support site will take a user to a list of vendors. The Toshiba link was selected. The link is the Toshiba home page. The Support link was
selected and a direct call was made to Toshiba at 7:30 am on 5/27/2010. A Toshiba case was opened. All 9 steps were presented to the support person and as directed the machine was put into a Factory reset mode.
Results: The machine has completed rebuilding as of 11:11 am 5/27/2010. Windows update patching is continuing the assult to be "secure".
Comments: One thing is certain, to be secure in one sense is have a machine in an inoperable state. However business cannot operate in an inoperable state. Neither
can a business operate in an insecure state. So, to receive an OS patch which causes the machine to be inoperable, has the quest to be secure been reduced to inoperability?
Suggestion: This problem needs more eyes and a better tracking method.
1. Is this a vendor issue, e.g. Motherboard, Memory, Hardware?
         1a. Is this lot specific?
2a. Is there a driver mismatch?
2. Is this a process/sequence issue?
3. Is there a recovery process other than "Scorched earth"?
Sincerely,
John

• X-Fi Extrememusic center,front speaker prob

So I just got my X-Fi Extrememusic and installed the newest driver for it from creative's website. I didn't use the CD that came with it becouse it basicly just froze when i started it up(I'm using Vista 32bit) My computer found the sound card and everything went well, so far.
So i had the usuall RC97 soundcard before were all the speakers worked(5. system)
And yes, i uninstalled the drivers for the RC97 card before i installed the vista driver for the X-fi card.
But now that I've installed my new audio card the only speakers that seems to work is the rear when I play music. Even tho, when i test it at the speaker setup in vista the rear and the front speaker are making sound. The center and the sub tho, is not making any sound when i test them. Rare thing is tho, that the sub is working when i play music. The front is not tho.
Here comes the very odd part, when i change it to game mode, all the speakers are making sound on the sound setup in vista, not in the media players tho. But when i switch it to entertainment mode the sub and center is not making any sound on the sound setup.
Problem is tho, simply put, only speakers currently working are the rear and the bass.
How do i fix this? I've checked the set-up and cables, everything is right.

I had the same problem before downloading a newer version of the creative control launcher. I was told to download the newer version in the creative sound blaster downloads menu. Choose your sound card then choose download application. In the applications menu choose creative control launcher and it will un-install the older version and re-install the newer one. This was my fix but it seems somethings work for some and not for others so keep posting.

• NForce 7xx playing video problems : anyone ?

just found this information on a very good and serious french site I use to visit everyday (a must visit everyday to found out news drivers, bios, firmwares, etc...) : it seems that nVidia is investigating a video corruption problem (glitches, freezes, crazy cursor etc...) when playing video (DVD, DivX, whatever), especially with XP. this is not a video card problem as ATI card are also experiencing the problem on nVidia 7xx based mobos.
I thought I was doing something wrong because I've often encountered this , but actually, it's still there, no matter which drivers (chipset and/or video) I've tried...
anyone with such a problem in here ?
the news (in french, sorry. too lazy to translate) : http://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=3&v_code=3044
a video of the problem : http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=TYHuzJSpORw

upping this thread as FAQ 2190 has been updated :
"NVIDIA is aware of reports of graphical corruption when playing videos with certain platform and graphics card configurations. We have been able to reproduce the issue on nForce 780i SLI and nForce 750i SLI platforms. We have released a BIOS fix for these platforms. Please contact your motherboard manufacturer for the updated BIOS."
according to touslesdrivers.com, Evga already released a bug fixed bios... MSI, please don't forget us

• NForce 4.27 drivers + SB Audigy 2 ZS Platimun = Windows XP not booting!

Hi folks,
I know that I'm not using my MSI K7N2 Delta in my main rig anymore, but I've gotten good help here in the past (you guys rock!), and I *do* have the MSI GeForce 6800GT in my config so I was hoping that you folks might be able to give me some insights.
I have a system with the following components:
DFI Ultra Infinity nForce2 Ultra motherboard (latest BIOS)
2 x 512MB OCZ PC4200
Mobile Athlon 2500+
MSI GeForce 6800GT (Forceware 61.77)
PCI Slot 3 Intel 10/100+ PCI NIC
PCI Slot 4 (not shared) - SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Assigned IRQ4 manually
All on-board peripherals disabled except for FDC, IDE1, USB
After much gnashing of teeth, (and several reinstalls of Windows XP) I narrowed it down to a problem between the nForce drivers and the Audigy 2 ZS drivers.
I'll tell you what happens:
When I install Windows XP, everything is great. Everything loads up just fine. I can get Windows installed without a hitch. I then upgrade to SP2. No problems. I then try installing the nForce UDP 4.27 and it works with no issues. I can even install the drivers for my GeForce card and, again, no problems at all.
However, if I then install the driver software for the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, the system will no longer boot into Windows XP!
If I do the reverse, as in install the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum drivers FIRST, the system is fine until I try installing the nForce UDP 4.27, then the same thing happens.
There is little recourse but to reinstall Windows (I'm not doing an ASR if I can avoid it as they're messy) in either case because I can't even get into SM w/ CP.
When Safe Mode shows the drivers loading the system hangs at MUP.SYS then never continues.
I Googled the problem and I found a bunch of suggestions about how to avoid conflicts with the Audigy cards, and I assigned Slot 4 to IRQ4 and no other device is conflict/sharing with it.
On a note: I actually DID manage to get the Audigy and nForce drivers to work properly to allow me a clean reboot, but that was before I realized that I'd forgotten to power up the Live! Drive. When I shut down and powered up the Live! Drive, the system wanked on startup. Even removing the Audigy 2 card did not allow Windows XP to boot up after this happened.
I guess my questions are:
1) Has anyone ever run into this before?
2) Does this sound like a problem with SP2 acting wanky? Should I just try installing the nForce/Audigy software on the base Windows XP and see what happens?
3) Do I NEED to install the nForce 4.27 drivers, or is there another version that you can recommend that might be more friendly, or do I even need to install them at all? What parts of the nForce driver do I absolutely need to install if I must do so?
PLEASE NOTE: This setup worked fine with a SB Live! Platinum 5.1 in the same slot prior to me upgrading to the SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (and the old sound card worked great on my old K7N2 delta). However, I was also not trying to run SP2....
Any help that any of you gurus out there can give me would really be appreciated. I'm at the end of my rope here.
Thanks

I have APIC on, as well as ACPI. I have also manually assigned IRQ4 to the slot with the Audigy card and it's not shared. I disabled the onboard serial ports, parallel port, firewire, NIC and audio.
It is worthwhile to note that when I installed the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum drivers FIRST, that all devices in the system functioned properly and without problems. It wasn't until I upgraded the system drivers for the nForce components that it refused to boot. This would seem to indicate a conflict between these sets of drivers, and not an IRQ problem or hardware resource conflict.
Could it maybe be SP2 doing it? Should I try installing as Wonkanoby suggested below with no service packs or SP1a?

Thanks Wonkanoby. I appreciate the links, and yes, I'll try to install the nForce drivers one by one. I'll create Restore Points for each one and figure out where it's dying. Someone else on another forum suggested disabling MUP.SYS as it seems to be hanging there, but it could just coincedentally be the last item loading BEFORE it blows up.

The lexar restarts both computers when you insert the Compact flash card
Sandisk works intermittenly and sometimes causes the computer to hang
Camera also works intermittenly and sometimes causes the computer to hang
I also have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with a P3 900Mhz, and all the readers and the camera work flawlessly.
Any ideas?, what is causing the conflict.
updating drivers? bios?????
Thanks for the help
Erik

That's strange, I use a crappy 15 dollar "dazzle" mem stick reader with my sony cam and it works well. you may want to try another brand of reader. -sorry not much help. Are they USB or serial/parallel port?? mine is usb. Not sure why it works in your Dell, I'd be willing to bet that it is due to some kind of enumeration problem. I'd just get another brand of reader and take those back if possible.

• Fixed and 2 quick questions (bios thread)

Hi Everyone, i need your help again...
[....]. since i installed Win2k3 on my system i was getting stability problems, especially lockups to black screen in games. On Win2k3 i was using the exact same drivers as I am going to list soon, and so I thought I'd install Windows XP again on a spare hard drive to see if this helped. I wish i'd never messed with my system my previous XP install was almost 100% stable, but that's another  story.
Today I perfomed these steps in this order:
1)Downloaded SP1a
2)formatted new hard drive
3)Booted from CD, did a Windows XP Pro install
4)Started XP Pro, installed SP1a
5)Installed Nforce system drivers and Display Drivers 29.42 (these were very good to me before...) and restarted
6)Installed Speedtouch USB ADSL Drivers 2.0.1.2 and went online
6.5)Enabled Hardware Acceleration on Displayt Properties
6.7) Installed direct x 9.0a web setup.
7)Did full windows update: all the critical stuff, most of the recommended (except MEssanger, Media Player and a couple others) and the CPU driver (left my Gfx and Sound on the above)
8) After a restart started a game
It lasted all of 10 seconds once I started playing.
Ok, maybe 5 seconds. Smae as Win2k3!!! I was running bios default performance options, with APIC off... so I ran Prime 95 for a while, got no errors .... about to try a memtest86 but I'm pretty cetrain the memory is good never had trouble with it before at all and I've tested it before too.
Can someone help me out? Here's my hardware config

AMD XP 1900+ (no overclock any more)
MSI K7N420D MB
2*512MB DDR266 Samsung 'Transcend' Memory (unbranded really) (16 chip DIMMs)
Geforce 2 MX400 32MB SDRAM (unbranded - runs a little faster then onboard graphics)
Adaptec 29160LP Scsi Card
IBM 16000rpm 32GB SCSI Disk (UW-2)
2*WD1000BB 100GB Western Digital IDE Drives (the normal ones with 2mb cache) in Software Raid - 0 on Promise card
18GB Maxtor ATA66 IDE hd on Nforce, with CDR.
a Promise Ultra TX100 Dual IDE Controller card (for CD Rom + expansion)
Enermax 431w PSU / 7200rpm fan on heavy HS.
Windows XP SP1 / DX 9.0a (going to reformat to Win2003)

I could really do with anyone's working driver config for a windows XP sp1a system, and how to build it from the bottom up. If a given driver config that works 100% for others fails for me I can start hardware troubleshooting and cursing loudly, otherwise with any luck it'll fix my problem.... please help me out i know there are people out there still running NForce 1 boards!
Quick question that could help: what sound driver revision from windows update should i be using? I can get the archived ones....
Thanks,
Naveen.
PS If i manage to fix it i'll update here, but i need a hand plz

.... also, I have the same errors running the same game from Win2k3 on a SCSI drive through the PCI bus (adaptec 29160) on the 2.7 bios. It looks like there is still an issue with fast PCI bus read/writes, sound usage and AGP card usage causing crashes. Discounting the OS change and APIC, I have these scenarios:
1) Game running off IDE drive on Nforce IDE ports: fine
2) Running of IDE drives on promise controller card: fails, locks.
3) Running off scsi drive on Adaptec 29160 card: fails, game locks.
So we may still have an issue with PCI read/writes and stability on bios 2.7 and Nforce system drivers 2.03 ... which is big news really.
I hope one of the moderators can put MSI in the picture and get them or NVidia to look into this. I can try eliminating APIC and the OS/Drivers from the issue, and install the game on all 3 drive configurations to confirm the above if necessary, but it's what it looks like from here. Using Performance bios defaults with no overclock, underclocking didnt help.
Perhaps bios 2.4 will fix this in which case the bios still needs work, 2 years on.

• What version Nforce do I have?

I think I'm losing my mind...after a week of trying to diagnose my 7800GS issues, BFG says to make sure I'm using Nforce 5.11 instead of 5.10.   I can't for the life of me remeber how to see which one I currently have installed.  I have a MSI 7030 mbob (NForce3 250)
Any help?  I've done it before (by accident) but can't remeber how.  I think I have 5.10, but not sure of  anything anymore...

OK...I understand.
To install, I believe I need to use Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the NVIDIA Windows nForce Drivers.   Then, using Driver Cleaner 3, I need to remove NVIDIA nForce drivers, leaving the graphic drivers alone.
Question:  When using Add/Remove in Windows, you're given a choice to remove three things.  Are you supposed to remove the PCI driver, or just the graphics and nForce drivers?  I've never removed the PCI reference...
do not remove them,(can cause XP unable to boot) just execute installer they will be overwritten.
