X-FI high bass mucic probl

hi all i recently upgraded my speakers to creative 6700 6. system and when i play a track with lots of base and turn the volume up past a certain level the sound kinda of cuts out or distorts for a split second every time there is a drum beat or something that has a lot of bass. this didnt happen with my old 4. speakers but im pretty sure these new speakers are not faulty because i can partially reduce this problem by switching to entertainment mode or buy messing around with 24bit crystalyzer and other options like that. Is this just a driver fault or is there some hard to find setting that i've missed.
hope u guys can help as this is driving me mad
my specs are
Athlon 64 4000+
ABIT AN8 mobo
024 mb ddr 400 corsair
256 mb radeon x850 XT PE
2 x 200 gb maxtor sata hdd's + 80 gb hdd for windows
X-FI fatality FPS
Windows xp pro sp2

hi thx for your reply. My speakers are plugged into a seperate wall socket. The extra power needs of the subwoofer had occurred to me but surely being plugged into a seperte socket is enough. Just a normal wall socket plugged in right beside my multi socket with everything else on it. Any other ideas any
That reminds me. In windows media player if i go to options and choose creative x-fi as my sound card in hardware and try to play something it just says theres a problem with your sound card but i can play anything i want if i leave this setting at default direct sound device, dont know if thats related to my problems or if thats just some crappy wmp issue

  • IPhone (iOS 5) High Bass Audio Distortion

Ever since I got the iOS 5 update, my music's been sounding very distorted. I know it's not my headphones because I listened to my music with them on iTunes and there was no problem with it but when I listen to the songs on my iPhone, it gets all fuzzy and distorted. Can someone please come up with a solution to this?
And how can I contact Apple?

I have noticed the same problem since upgraded to iOS 5. Nothing to do with Equalizer/Volume settings/Sound Check as these are switched off on my Iphone4 - in iOS4 and iOS5.
I had listened to the same song just before the iOS5 upgrade, and then immediately after the upgrade an hour later. Huge difference!! Songs in iOS5 are now more bassy (but the bad kind). Very disappointed.
In some songs, the increased bass results in horrible distortion and made headphones crackly.
I understand this happens if you are using expensive head/ear phones - someone in Apple has boosted up the Bass setting in iOS 5 in order to make cheaper earphones sounds "better" but unfortunately has a detrimental effect on high-performance headphones (like the £250 Bowers and Wilkins P5).
For more than a year, my songs sounded perfect/natural on iOS4 with Bowers and Wilkins P5, without any need for EQ/Soundcheck....and now iOS5 has destroyed the audio quality.
I hope Apple will restore the music quality in iOS5. Please Apple - return the dB+ settings to their proper levels. Test them with good quality headphones sold in your stores!

  • Best EQ setting for bass?

    Hi all,
Well i am not able to get a proper EQ setting to get high bass(even higher than the bass boost, something like mega bass ). SO anyone can help me with this EQ setting?
ITs for n96(and pretty much every other current nokia's offering).
    Thanks.
    __L__'s phones,
    Nokia n96, Sony ericsson w960i.
    Headphones- Bose IE3, HPM 90

Thanks, but i just brought those headphones, so guess i wont be buying another for a while.
Actually i brought bose because, they usually got high bass, and they do especially with bass booster, but i wanted to try out something like, even more bass . Anyways, thanks.

  • TEST IN PROGRESS! THE ZEN VS IPOD SO

My wife just brought an 4th gen 20gb Ipod ( I have the zen touch) and we will preform a taste test if you will on the both of them. We will download 4 genes of songs( r/b , house, rock, celtic) at the same bit rate(same songs) and will play them at the mid -high volume rang at different eq setting for each person blindly and we'll find out just which is better in sound tonight , or if there is really no difference to be heard. I'll Post the results before 0:30pm tonight. So keep watch.

Ok people we used 4 songs...()Enya's Carribean Blue(celtic vocal settings on "Acoustic" for the zen and "Acoustic" for the Ipod, both set to 28kdps,44khz volumes set 8 clicks for the highest level. Results in clarity = Zen touch clearly better ..my wife and I both knew which was better within 0 seconds of start up time on complete test cycle. The Ipod has good sound BUT it sounds like it trying to play under a small layer of water that drowns out the sound a LITTLE. I guess this is thanks to the 97 s/n ratio which some people say you can't hear with your human ear. I guess we have super ears then, because we did.
(2). 2nd test song ...r/b Mariah Carey "Close My Eyes"(using "pop" settings on the zen touch and "R/B"/and 2nd time with "pop" settings trying to be fair)to test the music-to-vocal sound ratio ( seeing if bass or instruments would drown out the vocal beauty ). Again the Clarity of the Zen touch won over again, clearly. It's bass was not as strong as the Ipod's but was clearer. The Ipod bass sounded like it was adding to the drowning sound that I mention above.
(3). 3rd test was Dieselboy jungle mix w/dj jerome,dj dara, and grooverider. We wanted to test which could handle HARDER bass without distortion. The Ipod was the winner on that test. It seemed the harder the bass demands were for the song, on the eq setting for "disco" for the zen ...the worse it got, basically too much( maybe placed on another setting it would have preformed better but I had to place it on the heaviest bass setting as I did with the Ipod to keep it fair). Where the Ipod was set on "Bass Boost" and still left some clarity in place.
(4). And Finally Rap. We used David Banner's "See About Ya". Both unit keep there orginall setting, even though we could have changed the Ipod's setting thanks to their many Eq setting. And both came back kinda equal except for the cleaner bass that the Ipod projected under high bass demanding setting and songs.
    ZENT=2
    Ipod=2
    Bottom Line
***If you don't have both you wouldn't be disappointed in either one. Both by themselves are good sounding machines. It's only when you put them against each other will you ever notice a difference and that difference equals to clarity sound for Vocals for zen and Bass distortion handling for the Ipod(or basically higher volume handling). Hope this helps clear up any questions on the two units.

  • Speakers on Aluminum 13" Macbook

Hi, Im pretty new at this whole Mac thing. I just got my Macbook on monday and ive been pretty busy so not until today did i try out the speakers to the fullest and couldnt help but notice that there is a difference between the left side and the right side. The thing is when i change the balance, sound comes from both, but the left seems a little softer and doesnt have as much feedback and the right one. Might this be a hardware problem with the speakers or might this be a problem with the mother board? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I received my new aluminium macbook, I had ordered if from Vancouver, BC was getting nice deal from compu2000.com for (CAD$1349.99 + 5% tax + CAD$19.99 UPS Express) only since I live in Ontario, Canada. Because if you go buy it from bestbuy, it costs CAD$1400 + 13% tax = cad$1582.00
Anyways I noticed the similar problem, when I first turned it on and heard the Apple sound it seemed to be coming more from the right side. Then I tried to adjust balance of the speaker and found out that left speaker has low bass intensity output, whereas the right speaker has high bass intensity output. I read somewhere else that the subwoofer on these macbooks has been fitted towards the right side which maybe causing this issue. If that is the case the is a huge design flaw by Apple. I am really disappointed.
I called Apple Tech. support and the guy told me he never heard of such issues and told me that there might be a hardware issue, so I am planning to take it to an authorized service center to hopefully fix this thing.
    Will keep u posted.

  • X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Micropone unmuting

I've been having an unusual problem with my "X-Fi Xtreme Gamer" sound card while playing games on my pc. This is happening everytime i play Gears of War for Windows at the moment and occaisionally in Half Life 2. My setup at the moment is to mute everything in the Windows Volume control except the Master Volume, Wave Volume and Line In Volume (i have?my xbox 360 sound going through the pink jack). Now whenever I play a game on the pc (360 switched off btw) i get a loud humming sound and slightly higher bass volume. This happens because somehow the Microphone volume has been unmuted, and consequently Line In is muted (that happens anyway if you unmute it yourself). If i change this back to original settings and resume the game, everything is perfect. Can someone tell me how i can stop this happening... yes I have the latest drivers for everything.

I have major problems with my Xfi in Win 7 64 right now as well. The Console works fine from Vista if you want to download that. Creative is being very lazy about updating there drivers at this point as you can see from all the upset posts in the Win 7 forums. Just hang tight like the rest of us :*(

  • AU filters, and some suggestions for use

I have just discovered the powerfull AU filters for the tracks, and would like some overall suggestions on their use. I have read on many forums and posts on what each one is, but my question is more on the line of when is enough enough, and can you degrade a file, like an image file, by too many filters?
Example one: Podcasts. Plain recording of vocal track with no efffect. After the recording, my thought is too apply the AUlowpass to take out the highend and clean up the sound. Then, maybe the AUMatrixReverb to fill it out.
Then, on the MasterTrack, apply the AUMultiband Compressor to balance the output. Is this something that would be ok?
Example two: Vocal recording project. Apply AUfilter to the backing instramental track to make it the way you want...
Record vocals again plain, vanilla, no effects. After the recording, add AUlowpass if needed, maybe AUGraphicEQ to shape the vocals, then do the MasterTrack effect as above.
I guess I would just like some more suggestions from people in the know on some use of the AU filters and how to do it best.
    Thanks,
    Cory

First, yes, you can degrade output, because a filter (by definition) changes the signal. However, if you use them carefully, they will enhance the sound. You don't have to worry about signal processing artefacts of too many filters in a row, since the design of the AU filters seems to be quite good. But in the end, your ears have to be the judge: why should you worry about degradation if you like the result?
About the low pass filter: normally, parametric EQ is used to cut specific frequency bands. E.g., if you have some trouble in the higher frequencies, it is unlikely you need to cut all of it, which is what a low pass filter does. This will make your mix sound dull. A parametric EQ can apply a much more precise and subtle edit, and at different places (most mixes also benefit from cutting the higher bass a little bit). EQ can also be used to boost. E.g., a slight increase around 12kHz can give some "air" to the mix.

  • Does my crossover frequency overlapping- (Speaker Vs Sound Driver)??

Hi, I own 6 Channel Speaker system connected to Creative X-FI 5.1 Sound driver . Speaker has a build-in crossover frequency 150Hz. In the sound driver also has an option to select a crossover frequency for LFE. (By default it set to 80Hz).
So my question is, does my sound driver crossed the frequencies 80Hz and same time my Speaker crossed 150 Hz to LFE? If it does, It seems I miss the frequency band between 80-150Hz!! So what would be the best way. adjusting the Sound Driver Crossover Fr to align with Speaker crossover? ( in my case, 150 Hz???)
    Please let me know!
    Thanks

Well, theory and practice can be different sometimes.
The only thing I can imagine is that the low-pass filter in the soundsystem is not fully able to filter out all bass frequencies below 150Hz and some get through to the satellites which are not capable of producing them correctly, hence the distortion.
The driver filter will cut them off digitally, so really nothing below 150Hz will get to the satellites if you set the driver crossover frequency to that --> no distortion.
For the more tight/more soft bass I guess it's the same thing, the built-in filter can't get everything below 150Hz completely to the subwoofer (the higher bass frequencies lose some of their power), therefore it can "concentrate" on the 0-80Hz range that comes directly from the driver (digitally cut off). If you set the drivers filter frequency higher, the higher bass frequencies retain their full power and the subwoofer has to work a higher spectrum of frequencies and the extremely low frequencies lose some punch.
That's the only explanation I can think of, maybe someone with more technical/audio knowledge could answer it better.
I would rather take softer bass over fuzz/distortion.
Just set the driver crossover frequency so that the result pleases your ears.

  • Audio compression rate

    Hi,
is there a way to change the audio compression rate on my Ipod? Bass and treble sound very distorted when connected to my home stereo amplifier.
    Many thanks
    acer aspire 3500   Windows XP

Distortion can be caused by several things -
    1) Simply overloading the input to your hi-fi or by a high data compression rate or a combination of the two. Check the input sensitivity rating of the socket you are using for the iPod on your hi-fi is around the 1 volt level (RMS). If is much less than 1V (say 300mV or less), even a lowish volume setting on the iPod could cause distortion, at least in the bass. Input overload from high bass levels can cause clipping distortion that can blow speaker tweeters (not the woofers) and sound terrible. Also, file compression at less than 128kbps causes progressively more disagreeable distortion right across the audio bandwidth.
    2) Downloaded files are sometimes highly compressed (less than 68kbps) and are not worth playing from any half-decent hi-fi. Also, avoid ripping CD's at less than 128kbps if you want to play back through your hi-fi. Preferably, use a bigger bit rate than 128kbps. iTunes material should be fine, at least for the non-audiophile, as it's AAC files are not too highly compressed.
    3) If you use the Sound Enhancer (iTunes preferences) or an iPod Equalizer Preset, you could push the overall output toward overload for the hi-fi input.
    Happy listening.

  • Automator if/then to Trigger Actions

I am trying to set iTunes' Equalizer depending on what the system audio output is. I have been able to get the name of the audio device using AudioDevice and save it to a variable (though I suspect the latter isn't necessary). What I can't figure out how to do is set the Equalizer based on what the name returned is. For example, if it is "Headphones", then set the Equalizer using the "Set iTunes Equalizer" (preferably), or if it is "Internal Speakers", set it to another. I hardly have any experience with AppleScript and Automator
This is where it's at, currently:

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted! Only problem is, I'm trying to use an "else" statement (not "else if") like this and it produces an error:
set currentAudioDevice to (do shell script "/Users/anyone/Downloads/Audiodevice/audiodevice output")
    tell application "iTunes"
      if currentAudioDevice is "Headphones" then
set current EQ preset to "Headphones"
      else
set current EQ preset to "High Bass"
-- add more 'else' clauses here
      end if
    end tell
It looks like it should be correct, but it says that "current EQ preset" is an "Unknown object type".

  • Audio Clarity: iPad 3 vs. iPhone 4 vs. Nano 3/4

've got 2 pairs of CX880 Sennheiser in-ear headphones. One with a broken left speaker, the other speaker is working completely normal. The other headphone is in mint condition. The working speaker is absolutely normal. I'm testing 2 devices at the same time, alternating the speakers and headphones (stereo reasons)
These CX880 Sennheisers aren't $30 junk although they aren't professional headsets.
    EQ used: Acoustic
I'd rank these devices in terms of audio quality in this way.
    Acoustic (Bass vs. Sound Clarity)
    Bass
    Clarity
    1. Nano 4 (VERY punchy and strong bass)
    1. Nano 3 (crisp, clear vocal reproduction, 'hi' instruments can be heard clearly')
    2. iPhone 4 & Nano 3 (Very close performance, strong bass)
    2. Nano 4 (crisp, clear vocal reproduction, 'hi' instruments can be heard clearly)
    3.-
    3. iPhone 4 (very good, clear vocal reproduction, 'hi' instruments can be heard clearly)
    4. New iPad (Strong bass, more mid than other devices)
    4. New iPad (vocals sounded like muck)
Why I conducted this test? I never played real racing 2 on phone until recently. The usual device used for entertainment & games was the New iPad. I always thought the game SFX sounds like it was produced from tin and thought it was the game developers. I've just tried Real Racing 2 on my iPhone 4 and to my horror, it sounded so much better. Then I decided to find my previous iPods for audio quality comparisons, the Nano 3 & 4 were working so I included them.
    Conclusion
Clarity with acoustic, a high-bass EQ preset differs amongst the listed devices. In general, these devices fared pretty well in clarity when their bass was turned from flat to Acoustic, very audible. The Nano 3 & 4 stood very closely in terms of clarity, the iPhone wasn't as good but its still very acceptable. Nano 4 had very punchy bass and some people do like the strong punchy sounds, despite the strong bass, audio quality is maintained. I'd say more people would go with the sound produced on the Nano 3 or iPhone 4.
However the device that stood out like a sore thumb to me was the New iPad!!! Comparing how audible these devices are, the New iPad isn't even crisp... At first, it sounded pretty normal on a flat EQ. However when I amped up its EQ... I could have gotten the crap sound it produced through the CX880 on a cheap $30 dollar super high bass earpieces with poor vocal clarity while on my previous devices!
This is such a disgrace in my opinion. Why is the New iPad's audio quality so poor???
    Anybody has views on this?

Hi James, you posted your opinion on sound quality and that was what I was looking for. Appreciate the reply. But what were the headphones you used?
On what I've said on "muck", it was basically muffled vocals after the Acoustic EQ was turns up. Normal to deep men vocals were experiencing poorer qualities the most.
My in ears are a pair of Bose IEs. The original model not the current. VERY pleased with them. I've also had a pair of Seenheiser 280s on the iPad (borrowed) and had no issues. Sounded great.  Also routinely route to the sterio suing the a run of the mill splitter. Stereo systems are both quite old and a combination of Bose and Sony equipment. I do NOT tend to use the EQ settings and have not noted any issues with vocal quality. Music collection runs the gamut from classical to jazz to alternative to rock etc.
I have found with ripped CDs, there is a substantial quality difference if use a bit rate of at least 256. I tend to use 320.

  • Where to buy headpho

I have zen micro and there is a distorting noise comes out of my left headphone when I play high bass songs, Looked in accessories section couldn't find the original micro headphones, any idea where to buy it's.

You don't need to use Creative's headphones. You can use any headphones, but I would recommend you get relati'vely small and efficient ones. Sony's EX5/7s are fantastic, if you like canal type "in the ear" headphones.

  • Music quality in iPhone

Guys, I use my minidisc and iPhone intermittently to listen to music. I must say the sound quality in minidisc is better. Iphone cannot handle high bass.
    Does anyone agrees?

god i remember using a minidisk player. that was the coolest player i had before i started going with mp3 players. but i digress.
music quality depends completely on the bitrate used to store it, plus the quality of the medium used to get the music from. if the CD used to get the music is scratched or otherwise damaged, the music won't play well.
the highest bitrate i have seen for mp3's is around 320 kilobits per second. (320 * 60 / 8 = 2.4MB/s) the problem is that this equals about 2.4 megabytes per minute of music, assuming i did the math right. if you have 2000 songs with an average length of 4 minutes, that's 19.2 GIGABYTES of data.
a good bitrate i use for music storage is 192kb/s. it gives you good quality without using a ton of space. i also use a variable bitrate setting if it's available. variable bitrate is awesome because if the song has a lot of stuff going on, it will automatically increase the bitrate used to keep the quality high, while if little or nothing is going on, it will decrease the bitrate to nothing to save space.
in order to save space on my iPhone for the amount of music and video i like to have available, i have decreased the bitrate on my music to 128kb/s, which is the minimum i would ever use. all of my music that used to take about 10 gigabytes of space now only takes about 6.5, so you can easily see the space savings.

  • Headphones for my MacBook Pro OS X.

I am looking for headphones and I want a good price and good quality. I have checked the Apple store online but only find ipod or iphone headphones. Does anyone have suggestions for headphones?

Do NOT i repeate DO NOT listen to users recommending Bose.
They do not know their audio hardware, and are only drones to the endless Bose advertisements/Over hype.
Bose is overpriced, avoid them they give you very little for the price they charge; and they will break eventually.
Personally, i've learned from experiance that getting headphones, your money is best spent in the 180-250 dollar range.
I can recommened some that i've used, and heard and researched very well
    Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 @$180
Over ear design, very good sound quality and isolation.
<200 its VERY hard to beat.
They may not last very long if you take them everywhere with you, these are best used in static locations.
    V-MODA Crossfade M-80 @$200
Personally, these are the best phones i've come across for sound quality in the 0-350 dollar range, plus these things will literally last you decades. I've tossed mine off my friends 23rd floor balacony to see if i could break them. They were fine from this INSANE height, keep in mind they hit grass, not concrete.
These are amazing mids-highs bass is realistic and not over the top.
ON EAR design, so they are perfect for portable unit.
    V-MODA Crossfade LP2 @$130-199
Over ear version of the above, just not as good sound quality; better bass (fake over the top bass).
DO NOT GET A CHEAP HEADSET, you will replace it sooner then you know, and end up buying a good pair in the end. It ends up costing you more by getting the cheap pair. Stick with earbuds if you need to intill you can save up enough, trust me i've been there and learned the hard way. AVOID all beats, and similar branded crap that runs on batteries, they have TERRIBLE sound quality, also most phones with battery noise isolation have EMI/hissing if you have the ears to hear it (AKA they are toys for children, they sell them on looks not what they do/sound like).
Also note, V-moda has the best headphone warranty i've come across. 2 years full replacement for any issue, after this if you lose/lost/burnt/smash you Vmoda's they will give you a 50% discount on any pair in the future for life. So what that means is if they break, or you toss them in the garbage, you can get them for the same price as the sony headphones for around 99 bucks. You dont pay extra for this warranty coverage.
So V-moda is my personal recommendation, follwed by the German Beyerdynamic brand.
