X-FI interferen

Hey,
I recently bought with my new system an X-fi Xtreme Music sound card.
Now, I've noticed a high pitched squeal that changes when hard dri'ves/processors being used, like you'd expect in on-board sound when you increase the volume.
It becomes even more apparent when using headphones.
FIX:
Weird thing is, this only happens alot on the Entertainment mode, and when switching to Audio Creation mode, there is no interference, and in gaming mode, theres only slight interference.
Whats this about? I'm using standard analog btw.
IF I used Coaxial, would inerference stop completly? I'm guessing so?
CONCLUSION:
Even so, my Creative Sound Blaster Li've card from 5 years ago or more never suffered from the problem...
Its on the bottom PCI port, so it can't be any further away from components that could cause it.

[Solved]
It seems like the drivers that came with the CD were very old. Upgrading to the new ones has stopped the interference completly.

  • Email interference with Outlook calendar

Having just replaced my Treo with a Blackberry Tour, I'm new to both the Blackberry and this forum.  If I'm posting to the wrong forum, or if my question has been answered before, please point me in the right direction.
One of the first things I did was to get my Treo calendar into Outlook, then get the BB to sync to Outlook.  Everything was working fine.
Then I added an email account @vzw.blackberry.net.  A few days later when I tried to sync to Outlook, a whole bunch of my calendar appointments get deleted from Outlook.  Even when I set up syncing to replace all data in Outlook, I ended up with appointments in my BB that weren't in Outlook.  When I looked at the appointment details, the top line had a "Synchronize to" entry.  The appointments that got backed up specified Synchronize to Default, the ones that didn't get backed up said Synchronize to vzw.blackberry.net.  If there was a way to change the "Synchronize to" target, I didn't find it.
So I deleted the email account from my BB.  I synchronized again, and everything worked fine.  The appointment details no longer displayed a "Synchronize to" entry.
Can someone explain what's going on?

I re-posted this question on the Desktop forum, and received an answer here.

  • 50 Hz interference with DSP

I have a very sophisticated DSP package developed in LV that analyzes biomedical signals at 256 sps. In the US the code works perfectly but in Europe, with some laptops, the code does not function correctly and 50 Hz "noise" is present. There are a few interesting wrinkles. On some machines 50 Hz "static line" is punctuated by rhythmic bursts up and down the entire spectrum every 4 seconds. On other systems this bursting occurs every 10 seconds. It requires approx 20-40 seconds of recording to begin to see the bursting. On my laptop I cannot capture this phenomenon. I'm wondering if the issue might not be a disk-write problem, rather than a more pure DSP issue. The other idea is that there is a capacatance discharge occuring due to so
mething hardware related. Any further ideas would be helpful.
The DSP includes real-time JTFA with 128 bins and multiple arrays of time-based filters, generally high order Parks-McClellan FIRs.

I should have been a little more explicit. There are no notch filters being used -- either for the US or Europe -- as the 3rd party hardware has a hard rolloff for anti-aliasing at 60 Hz. Now under other proprietary software (read I can't see directly what they're doing) the same hardware does not show the 50 Hz activity in Europe. Also mine doesn't show the activity on my laptop, but does when running on other laptops, and the 50 Hz shows up with bursts that "flood" the spectral analysis. What is especially interesting is that the time-period of these "spectral floods" is unique to each laptop. On one laptop the "flooding" happens every 4 seconds, on another every 10 seconds. But, in both cases it takes time for the flooding to occur (generally 20 or mo
    re seconds of data recording).
So it's a very interesting situation which I think may be related to the timing cycles of the deployed laptops but I can't figure out why.

  • Interference of analog inputs

    Hi,
I have problem with analog input measurement. I am using NI PCIe-6351 for measuring voltage signal from 3 sensors - accelerometer (differential connection to AI4) and 2 pressure sensors (differential connection to AI0 and AI1). If I measure signal from accelerometer and pressure sensors separately using SignalExpress everything seems working. However if I measure these signals together it looks like they influence each other, concretely analog signal of accelerometer increases value of pressures during dynamical measurement. Measuring only pressures looks all right.
Behaviour of signals is shown in the figure below. Upper two figures show separate measurement of signals AI0 and AI4, bottom figure shows signals measured together/simultaneously (signals are noisy but they should be constant).
Thank you so much for your suggestions.

    Dear Jaroslav!
If I understand your image correctly, the issue is the oppositve of what you described, so the accelerometer (AI4) is being affected (offset by a fairly constant DC value) by the pressure measurement (AI0). What is your measuring frequency?
There are a few suggestions off the top of my head:
    1. Check shielding on your sensors to ensure on crosstalk is happening on the measurement itself.
    2. Create a dummy task on AI3, measuring a constant 0 to zero out your ADC in between channels.
    3. Depending on your application, you could decrease the sample rate on one, or all sensors.
Hope some of this you'll find useful.

  • Interference problem using external timebase

    Hi All,
We're using the NI 6602 as part of a wireless communications receiver for pulse generation and rotary encoder interfacing.  For precise time synchronization of data acquisition, an external timebase must be used with the pulse generation task, so we've been using a 10MHz (or 1 MHz) square wave derived from a master oscillator as external timebase.  The 10MHz TTL square wave is injected into the unshielded terminal block (CB-68LPR) on PFI39 (CTR0 SRC) and travels down the shielded cable (SH68-68-D1) to the PCI 6602.  A problem which has encountered is that harmonics from this 10MHz (or 1MHz) timebase are appearing in our measured signal.  Note that we're measuring radio frequencies in the range of 30MHz to 80MHz.  As you might know, signal levels at the front-end of a receiver are typically very low (order of microvolts), so even a small amount of interference can cause serious problems.  In this case it seems some of the square wave energy is being radiated and picked up by the receive antenna.  If the square wave is disconnected, i.e. the shielded cable is disconnected from the terminal block or computer, the problem goes away.
If anyone has any ideas on how to mitigate this problem, I'd like to hear them.  The obvious solution of moving the antenna further away from the computer is not an option since it is mounted on top of the vehicle.  One question is what type of shielding the SH68-68-D1 has, and how good is it?  One possibility I've been considering is trying to shield the cable even more by using copper tape or a metal braid wrapped around the outside and grounded at the terminal block and/or computer?  Could the level of interference have something to do with the standing wave resulting from impedance mismatch (what is the characteristic impedance of this cable anyway)?  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello Axiom,
Your system sounds pretty complicated so I didn't completely understand
your setup; however, I do have a couple suggestions for you.
First, I would recommend replacing the unshielded CB-68LPR terminal block with a shielded one, such as the SCB-68.
Having a shielded connector block may fix the problem depending on how
close your connector block is to your antenna.
Second, you might want to take a look at the Field Wiring and Noise Considerations for Analog Signal Tutorial, there are quite a few noise considerations you might want to take into account.
Finally, the characteristic impedance for the SH68-68-D1 cable is 125
ohms differential @ TDR and 79 ohm single ended @TDR.  I doubt
that the interference you see is because of an impedance mismatch
    however.
    I hope that helps,

  • Audigy 2 ZS RF Interferen

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the ZS is CE specified for Radio Frequency Interference?
The reason I ask is that I have recently installed an EL Wire around a window mod in my case and now when I use Teamspeak 2 I am getting a high pitched feedback whenever the EL wire is turned on. I Emailed the manufacturer of the kit, Sharkoon, who assured me their kit is CE specified not to intefer with other audio equipment and said to check my other componants are simarlerly specified.
My headset is a Plantronics Audio 60 and as I said i'm using the Audigy 2 ZS, does any body have any idea/solutions?
    Please help
    Raz

It might be your speakers/headset, I have both Logitech z-5500 and z-340 wired up and they tend to pick up RF from GPRS (Cellphone data) and EM interference from fluorescent light bulbs. A couple other people have posted that it's "normal".

  • Voltage Interference (and safety) Question

Are there any concerns with having a two-gang box with both 120v and coax/Cat6 feeds in the same box???  Or how about lines running parallel in that same config???  I vaguely remember hearing that can create interference (or even possibly voltage absorption to the coax or Cat lines).  Is there any concerns with this?  I have one room where I have a box with both 120v and a coax already together in that two-gang box.  The lines come from different directions, but ultimately meet up fairly close in the box of course.  I did this a few years ago when I was preparing to hang a small TV on that wall and wanted a small footprint in terms of boxes behind the TV.  Now as I redo all this anyhow and prepare fpr a FiOS install, I want to ensure I do it correctly and safely.  The power is hot, and I checked the exisiting cable signal once and it seemed to be okay.  It's a GFI and never trips.  Never hung the TV there though to test it for any length of time.  Just trying to be safe.  Any thoughts anyone?

Also lutron makes wall plates and shows divider plates. This PDF also references the National electrical code restrictions regarding this practice. But I think it is best not to do this. If done you need to use divider plates and run the low voltage in on side of the box and high voltage in the other. Not good to run communications wires and line voltage together.
