X-Fi microphone/Line-in flexjack quest

im looking at a new pair of headphones, and my friend has the SoundMAX array microphone that comes with the newer Asus motherboards. I understand that this specific microphone is to be used with a stereo microphone jack.
my question is will the X-Fi work properly with this stereo microphone without being amped at all? i understand the flexjack will work with 2 channels when set to "Line-in" but every situation that i read about with stereo microphone setups has the mics being preamped.
for reference i am interested in buying:
http://www.andreaelectronics.com/Buy/ProductDesc/Superbeam_Array.htm
the website also says that it only works with soundmax platforms, doesnt bother me, i just want to record normal voice in BF242/BF2/Ventrilo/TS. this whole noise canceling thing is not needed.
thanks for your time!

Hi?I've been working on solving a mic problem with my X-Fi sound blaster card and the SoundMax Superbeam Array2-S. I can't get the card to recognize the mic. The mic is connected to the flexijack. In the Creative Game Mode Console under settings, the Digital I/O is grayed out and I cannot set it to either Digital I/O or Mic-in/Line-in. Any ideas?Sincerely,?Luis

  • PS-LX300USB turntable microphone/line level

I am attempting to record our old record collection to MP3 files for use on an iPod. The little instruction manual that came with the turntable says to set the microphone/line level at no more than 2, but the online instruction manual says to set it at 100. Quite a difference. Does anyone have any experience about which one is right?

No takers. Hm. OK. After some more research on the Net it appears to be that all the Fast Tracks suffer from the same problem, which makes me believe that it's not a bug, but a feature of an unexplainable kind. Oh, well, back to my old iMic noisemaker (this one works, it's just screened very poorly, so it picks up all the possible interference, and also makes its own little nasty hiss--this is why I switched to the Fast Track a while ago--so I will need to cut it out with an EQ, again). Hopefully, the EQ surgery will not affect the synthesizer's sound consistency as severely as it use to do with a microphone.

  • My microphone line-in jack isn't working.

I want to use an external microphone for online gaming conversations. I have a headset with both mic and earphones. I can hook the earphone jack up and can hear fine, however when i hook the microphone jack i can't get it to work.
Yes, i have gone into system preferences/sound/input and selected the line-in tab. Nothing is letting me use an external mic. (although the internal mic works fine)
The funny thing is, when i boot into Windows XP, i can use the headset perfectly fine, both microphone and headphones.
    What's the deal?

I found some information on Apples Web site that may shed some light on this subject. The link below has more info.
The last line may indicate the problem, also I found somewhere some mic's need their own power source. Look around on the Apple site it gives that information also.

To turn on the microphone and use it as the sound input device, follow these steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, open the Monitors & Sound control panel.
    2. Click the Sound button.
    3. From the Sound Monitoring Source pop-up menu, choose Built-in Mic or External Mic.
    4. Click the close box to close the control panel.

Important: Some microphones will not work properly without the use of a third-party sound recording application.

  • Capture PC microphone line in signal

I'm aware LabVIEW's Sound VIs and I used them often. My question here is that if I have a line in signal plugged into the microphone port, how can I capture it. There is no microphone involved, just a line in sine wave signal.
    Thanks for help,

    Hi GovBob,
I tried it and it actually worked, even though I don't know why. I also tried this way, but it doesn't work, after I set it to line in, I couldn't see any input. If it works, I will also have problem about how to set to the line in mode through cmd line.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Sound problem - microphone line out

    Hi.
I have one big problem. When I put the microphone into the right slot, so i hear everything what I say. There is no problem. I can hear my voice in repros or headphones. But there is another problem. When I connect to programs like TeamSpeak2 or Ventrilo, so my friends on internet dont hear my voice but they hear the radio signal. I dont hear this radio, i hear my voice, but they hear any radio channel. What can i do? Is there problem on frequency or what? Ventrilo and TeamSpeak2 are normal programs. In TeamSpeak u can hear the radio signal in test mode.
    Thx for answer.

If you have not already found a solution to this, other than the Griffen iMic, you might want to take a look at these little gadgets. They are USB headset micrphone adapters.

I am surre they are available elsewhere, but I got mine on ebay and it seems to work OK. the nice thing is that it is not bulky like the iMic. Although it says Windoze, you can plug it in and it is recognized by OS X as a "C-Media USB Headphone Set) for both input and output. I have a Planetronics on my desktop but wanted something smaller for travel. This little gadget should help.

  • How can i use the built-in microphone at the same time as using my earphones? (they have an external mic attached)

I am recording stuff on garageband and i need to hear other tracks as I'm playing, but I have to play them through external earphones so that the they don't overlap onto the one I'm creating.
The wire for my earphones has an external microphone attached to it, however, I have no desire to use this microphone as it is ridiculously sensitive and picks up even the slightest vibrations when the wires rub against my cheek or my t-shirt.
Therefore, I need to use the built-in microphone when recording. Except that, whenever I plug in the earphones to the iMac, garageband automatically switches to the external microphone. I went in to the Garageband preferences, and saw that it was set up for recording through the built-in mic, which is strange because input is clearly coming from the external.
So, I went into the iMac System preferences > sound > input. There are three options here: Internal microphone, Line-in, and Soundbooth 3.0.
What I found is that whenever I plug my earphones into the iMac, the option for 'Internal microphone' changes into an option for 'external microphone'. Now, I am fairly sure that an 'external microphone' is EXACTLY the same thing as a 'Line-in', but I'm not so sure now, so please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
How do I stop the iMac from changing 'Internal microphone' to 'External microphone'? It is very important that I am able use the earphones and the Built-in Mic at the same time.

    Hi John,
I think the only way is to get an iMic...

    Hey coolasc,
If you had a lot of updates come through, you'll want to make sure that BIOS was one of them.
BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System/Service. It is the language that all of the hardware components in your computer use to communicate with each other. There are updates which come out periodically for it so it would be best to have the latest version. The following steps were taken from here.
Windows 8: From the Start screen, type "msinfo32". Click msinfo32 from the list of results.
Windows 7&Vista: Click the Start button, type "msinfo32". Click msinfo32.exe from the list of results.
About halfway down on the right, look for BIOS Version/Date.
    3. Copy and paste the information to the right of BIOS Version/Date in the value column, into your reply.
The latest version on the HP Drive Page for your particular notebook is F.66. It could be that a lot of updates other than BIOS came through and BIOS just hasn't come through quite yet (if this is the case, it would be fine to manually install the latest version). If you have a version higher than F.66 by some chance, go back to F.66 by just downloading and installing it.
The BIOS being out-of-date or just out of sync with the other updates that came through, could definitely cause an issue like this.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if these suggestions helped (this could help others with the same issue). I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

  • There is a line on the camera! help please!

so i have my iphone4 (white one) just last month (8/31)
well, the camera works fine until few days ago when i take pictures, the screen suddenly has a blue line on it, the line is like a really tiny blue line thats stay vertically, and its 1cm away from the right side. but when i zoom it, that line was gone. but when i take videos or using the interior camera, the screen doesn't have that line on there. so i go to update the software and restore my iphone as a new device. sadly, it doesn't work!!! what should i do now? why does this happen when i didn't even drop my phone at all.. =(

Thank you, this is a beginning step.  I am running Lion on a MacPro, when in FaceTime, I did as you suggested, going to Video on top of the menu bar, when I click on Video, there is no "internal mic" only:
Microphone: Line-In; Digital-Out; Logitech camera. "Mute" is grayed out.
It does appear that my computer microphone is working.  I am using an external camera, so possibly I need to select that in the microphone preference.

  • Soundbanks percussion kit and EAX microphone problems

I bought the PCMCIA Audigy ZS notebook to use it with my notebook HP Pavillon ZS6000 (Athlon 3200, 1 Gb RAM) having the hobby to sing with friends using karaoke software like Van Basco or Karawin.
I bought it in a blister pack at the end of August.
In both sw (Karawin or Vanbasco) you can set the output device to one between internal midi map, Microsoft GS wavetable, Creative soundfont player, or a virtual software like YamahaXG or Virtual Sound Canvas if you have.
I use the Creative soundfont player and change the banks through soundbank manager. It works properly, but if I try to change the percussion kit, dont' hear any difference, like if it use only the first one. Moreover, if I try to combinate 2 soundbanks loading over a second one only with a great piano for example it sounds only the first bank in the list.
Another problem is with Eax anvironment, that produce on the microphone sounds only a continuous bipped sound (I dont' know if it's the one you called bopping) and no echo or reverb...
Least if I use the internal speaker the latency increase terribly to more than 1 second.
    Someone can help me?

    $? Hi.
I have got same problem here.
When I switch from "creation to game mode" or from "game to creation mode" I can hear microphone/line in playback.
It is muted on the panel but I can HEAR it.
I always have to switch it ON and OFF (in both modes).
Same thing happens when I play through ASIO.
Microphone playback activates but panel visualisation is OK.
    This behaviour is pretty annoying.
How is THIS even possible ? I can not believe it.
One more thing about create console I do not like.

  • AHS 515 Microphone Not Recognized

I have a Mac G4 (400MHz Power PC G4) running OS X 10.3.9 given to me by a friend. It does not recognize the Altec Lansing AHS 515 headset/microphone combo I use for podcasting.
I can hear fine through the headset but the Mac doesn't recognize the microphone. The headset/mic is plugged into the correct jacks on the back of the G4 (it has a PCI graphics card) but no dice.
I looked in the Sound Settings and I am given 2 options. External Microphone/Line In and Sound Input. I tried choosing each, at a time, and neither pick up my voice.
I use Audacity (no I don't have GarageBand) and had no trouble with this on my old, now dead, Dell. Please help.

The audio input is line level and will not work with a normal microphone. See

  • Earphone and microphone setting issues

When using my apple earphones, and using a messenger such as Skype, the microphone on my earphones seems to be the default input rather than on my mac book pro, is there a way to change this so that the microphone in my mac book pro is the default rather than the earphones, whilst still using the earphones?!?!

I could tell you now that that would be a waste of time.
the line in is never used when doing this connection, and the internal mic switches to the external automatically.
Theoretically you could try to modify the connection (there are three bans each one is for different tracks, left right and mic, modifying it so there are only two seen would work) but you run a huge risk in damaging your headphone jack so it would be silly to even think of.
You're better off getting a pair of headphones that have a removable microphone line or ones that don't have a microphone at all.
or you could do something really crazy like get an earphone splitter and plug that in and then plug your headphones to the earphone splitter (where it makes one headphone jack be two) and then that would cover your headphones to only be headphones and won't read the mic. (make sure your splitter doesn't support the microphone channel) you'll be able to tell because it'll only have two bands on it instead of 3. you want it to only have two.
    for example this:
would do what you want. notice that there are only TWO (2) black bands instead of Three (3) which you can see on the connection for the headphones you have now. This connection above will solve your issue for sure.
either way your current hardware won't allow it. I've seen these splitters everywhere. Chances are you may have one. and if you're using headphones maybe you havea  friend you want to share the sound with.

  • How to use front microphone port for Vo

Hey guys, I'm using a trusty old audigy platinum, and I recently grabbed a headset to hop into gaming chat and VoIP with friends. The microphone works fine, because I can hear myself speaking through the headset. However, when I try to use it, no VoIP software recognizes it. I believe that the problem is that it's plugged into Microphone/Line-In 2 on my front panel. It's not a software-specific problem, because both GTalk and Skype have it. I do know there's some way to do a software work around, because some of my sound editting software allows me to take the input from the front(such as a guitar) and record and play fine.
What I need, is some way to pass off Microphone/Line-in 2 as Mic port , or some specific work around to make both Skype and GTalk work with the front ports. Putting it in the back is really not an option.
Thanks in advance for any help.

To use it with skype, go to options and under audio devices there should be an option called "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings." Untick this box and manually set the recording source to be "Mic2/Line-In 2."
The it should work with Skype without a problem

  • Audigy 2 ZS No mic or line-in in both Windows and with Creative Surround Mix

    Happy New Year to all.
I have installed 2 ZS card. Output works well. I want to record a couple of old vinyl albums. I cant either through Creative Surround mixer or through windows get either a Line-in or microphone input to select from. I have tried everything but this forum. If anybody has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Eric

In the Creative Mixer on the right hand side you should see a separate column with a "Rec" heading. There should be a small upside-down triangle. Click on that and you should get a list. Choose "Analog Mix" which includes Microphone, Line-In, etc. Then to the left, un-mute the source you want.

  • Microphone port doesnt work on SBL

The microphone works, but not in the microphone port. I have to use it in the line in port. But I dont want to do this because I have another device I'd like to use that port with. Any suggestions?
Oh btw, i did turn off the onboard audio in bios.

Unmuting the port, and it doesnt work. What is strange is, though even im using the line in port, i have the microphone line unmuted. If I unmute the line in port, the mic wont work. Seems strange. No I havent had a chance to try it in another computer yet, I just bought it like three weeks ago.
