X-Fi Midi - No reverb effe

I recently purchased an X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card. I use Guitar Pro 5 and PowerTab
midi sequencers to score songs. I immediately noticed that neither one of the sequencers
can coax reverb out of the X-Fi, and chorus is barely audible when maxxed out. Other brand
name sound cards work fine with these sequencer programs. I bought the X-Fi because I
wanted the best wavetable General Midi sounds around. X-Fi came through on that end, but midi music with no effects is rather stale. I know about maxxing out the reverb and chorus
in Vienna, but this is not a solution because the effects are not controllable by the
sequencer.
I have seen a few other threads where others were having the same problems using different
sequencers, so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the X-Fi card. Basically, I just want
to know if this issue will ever be solved (i.e. updated drivers, etc.) or am I stuck with
no midi effects? It appears that Creative is not very concerned about this issue, and
will not even acknowledge it even exists. With the large amount of previous threads on this issue being ignored by Creative, there's no way that they are unaware of the problem.
Creative, if this problem is never going to be addressed, please just let us music guys
know, so we don't waste any more time trying to rememdy the issue!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install the Creative Volume Panel, so you can switch to Audio Creation Mode GUI. In there you can do many things with midi like, 3DMIDI, ASIO, FX Return, ECT. Also, there's the sounfont bank manager. You can load sf2 files to enhance the midi patch sounds.
I hope this somewhat helps

  • X-Fi Midi Synth Reverb and Chorus Controller Is

I bought an X-Fi a couple of weeks ago, and I soon realized that midi effects controllers cc9 and cc93 (reverb and chorus) didn't work with the X-Fi hardware synths. I called CL Technical support about this and this is the response I got:
"I have spoken with our testers who say that the CC9-Reverb and CC93-Chorus amounts are set in theSF2 file. That value is typically set to hit 20% at maximum CC data entry (27). To work aroundthis, you will need to use NRPNs to set the amount to a greater level, or edit the SF2 contentitself. Please let me know if this information hel
    ps.
No, it doesn't help, reverb and chorus effects in midi files are set with midi controllers #9 and #93, this is true of virtually every midi file available on the internet, including commercial midi files. CL's testers are wrong. SF2 files have embedded minimum amounts of reverb and chorus for certain patches, midi song files customize the amounts of reverb and chorus with controllers cc9 and cc93 to suit each particular song, and even change it during the song. Adding NRPN's involves editing the midi file by calculating the MSB and LSB for each desired value and adding four controllers for every channel of every song every time you want a change in the effects. Controller cc9 and cc93 have control sliders or knobs in every major audio/midi multitrack program and these require no editing. A midi synth that ignores this loses much of its realism, and this just isn't acceptable for those of us who make serious use of midi song files. I have several thousand midi files and it would take months or even years to edit them all. This is a bug that may only affect a small percentage of X-Fi users, but for those it affects, it's a major bug. From the response I received from tech support, it appears that they aren't planning to do anything about it, so I thought I would publicize the issue here and see if I can't change their minds. I drove a 20 mile round trip and paid $40 for my X-Fi and I've had to pull it out of my computer and put my Audigy back in. I'm not a happy camper at this point, but if CL is going to fix the issue, I'm willing to wait for a while because I think thye X-Fi is worth it.

Maxing everything was the first thing I tried, and no go. Still so little reverb it was hard to tell if it was working, and no detectable chorus. I even went back with Vienna 2.4 and checked my soundfont again, and all was as it should be.
Putting together a brand new sound card is a major undertaking and it's understandable if something gets missed here and there, especially as most of the designers and testers probably aren't serious musicians. It's easy to see how this one could slip past, especially if they were using Soundfonts that have reverb and chorus programmed in to some of the instruments. Everything works fine until you start varying cc9 and cc92 and nothing happens. I haven't checked because I removed the X-Fi and put my Audigy back in, but it's a good bet that none of the midi effect controllers work properly. This is a relati'vely minor issue for most users, but for serious musicians who use midi, it's major. However, I'm sure CL will fix the problem as soon as possible. I just hope it doesn't take too long because the X-Fi is a really, really good sounding card, except for this one problem.
Gi've the X-Fi another try. I had these same issues at first but now cc9 and cc92 work in Sonar4.
These controls work, its just that the reverb is very low and the chorus has to be activated. In the effect editor choose the amphitheater preset as oppose to the default for reverb as it is the most audible.
    follow these steps:
    . choose creation mode
    2. enable EAX effects and set to max
    3. select amphitheater preset for reverb
    4. activate the 5 bus buttons for chorus in master aux effects box (Front L\R, ect)
step 4 should work best for stereo setup
    This should do it.

  • Using Midi Reverb and chorus in the Mixer Window

When I have my 16 midi channels of my triton in open logic with midi data inside, and I turn the Reverb or Chorus button in the mixer window, there are no affects taking place. why?? Thanks

    Hi,
Does your Triton have the General MIDI effects onboard? If not, then that is why it is not working.
Your MIDI device must have the effects onboard. So please consult your Triton manual.
    Cheers

  • X-fi midi reverb (again) - does this work or wh

I've just swapped from SBLi've Platinum to X-fi Platinum. I'm using Sonar 4 XL.
I'm trying to add reverb to midi tracks (as I successfully did on the same midi tracks on SBLi've). However, I can't get it to happen on the x-fi.
I know there's been a long inquest into this subject on this message board, but I can't work out whether there was a definiti've yes/no on whether it works; and what Creative's response is. If it does work ... how does it work?
Right - I'm in Audio Creation Mode, I have the mixer. I can select reverb and change parameters and hear what happens to the test drum loop. But I can't get reverb (or any other effects) on the midi track. The label at the top of the column has the correct synth and midi soundfont name. The track slider and solo/mute controls work Ok.
Yesterday I'm sure I did change something which created a reverb. But today - can't get it at all. The audio tracks reverb very well (and I don't want them too because Sonar has all the audio effects I need).
Am I incredibly dumb (actually, yes...) or am I missing something?
Thanks for any help on this.

Ok - I think I see it now - it's just a very low effect level. Is that right?

  • How do i use a Aux channel with reverb from two different patches

I have a Concert with an Aux channel strip for Reverb and i want two seperate patches to both use Send 1 with different amounts/level of reverb but when i move the fader on the patch and then go to the other patch the fader has moved back to the down position
    Hope this makes sense
P.S i know i can do it with two separate buses but want to keep it tidy
    Thanks

1: select an instrument channel, go the parameter of the channel then change the midi channel to "ALL"
2: insert the Multitimbral sampler of your choice ( RMX, hypersonic or what ever) and load the sounds you want onto them
3: open environment, in the environment parameter it shows AUDIO click hold it and select ALL OBJECT, then go to view and untick "BY TEXT"
4: connect the GM DEVICE to the channel that has the Multitimbral Sampler on it'll ask Do you want to remove the channels port setting? click remove
    thats it
Now go to the arrange window and you can use all the 16 midi channels to control one Multitimbral Sampler
that means midi channel 1 will control what ever sound is loaded in the first slot on the Multitimbral Sampler
lemme know if there was a mistake along the line, i'm a bit tired gotta help out

  • Orchestral midi loops fx not translating to arrange

when i audition these orchestral loops in the media browser i hear them with massive reverbs, very convincing, perhaps a little bit overdone here and there but still impressive
when i transfer these to the arrange they lose all the effects and appear 100% dry
i'd be glad to know if there's a way to pull the media browser fx in to the arrange with the loop
    thankz in advance
    byz

you have to pull the midi loops on an audio track, and they will sound like you hear them in the loop browser, i guess the designers made that on purpose so you can fool around with your own settings, and kind of making me itch to find out how they did it.

  • Midi loops in browser sound different in arrange window controller messages

I have a problem with controller messages as well with fx
I audition a midi loop it has FX and then drag it to arrange window
sounds different, I know of ther is another topic about the FX,
But as well controller messages not being read right
say a Timpani loop, foot controller is not reading
so the timpani roll is gone

This is not a problem, it's intentional design.
The preview audio contains reverb for these instruments, because the sound is in context - it let's you hear it how you are typically going to use it, and use can use it as an audio loop without problems.
When you load it as MIDI, it does not add another reverb to the channel because it assume you are going to use a global reverb, rather than add individual reverbs per channel - this is the generally better way of doing it, and avoids new users having a hundred reverbs on individual channels when they only need one.
As for articulations switched by MIDI, the preview audio can contain only one sample, but if there are different articulations, they need to be played/switched accordingly.
It's not a bug, it's the way it works for flexibility in the main. You have to remember, that when stepping up from a entry-level program to a professional one, a lot of hand-holding that the entry level programs do is no longer there, and so you can feel like the pro version is "less good" than the entry one. This is not the case - professional users do not need hand-holding, and that generally gets in the way.

  • MIDI Loops sound different in preview

I'm a new user to Logic, and I'm confused about the green (MIDI) loops. When I preview one it sounds one way, but will sound different when I drag it to my arrangement, even when having it create a new track. On many of them it sounds like it's just missing some reverb, but the change is more drastic in others, eg. "Desire A Cellos", where it sounds like the wrong samples have been loaded.
Also I noticed that it loads instruments like "strings" and "piano" where I would expect it to be using the more sophisticated EXS sampler.
    Is this normal?
If I listen to a loops like "Concert Hall Piano 4" it sounds way more realistic in the preview than it does when I let it play the MIDI in my track. My first thought is that this must be because the "Piano" instrument doesn't know how to handle the extra midi data such as expression.
Is anyone else having this problem, and what can I do to fix it?
    Thanks,
    -Emil

To answer this question, loops are created to be used with Garageband, so all of the instruments selected will use Garageband instruments.
The other more important question....I DON'T KNOW! Great question, I'm having the same issue with mine. I hope someone can shed some light on this. If you double click the 'strings' instrument in the channelstrip where you have your 'Desire A Cellos' and select the 'Cellos Pizzicato' preset instead of the 'Cellos' preset that is selected, you get much closer. It seems like it has defaulted to the wrong setting. Your right though, there's definitely some verb there too. And also, if you then change your song key, the loop in the arrange window should change with it, but mine is not.
HOWEVER....If you drag a GREEN loop into an audio channel instead of a MIDI channel, it will create an audio file loop (like the blue loops). As far as I can tell, they sound exactly as they should, and they do change keys. Still though, very strange. Perhaps tis a bug??

  • MIDI Loops & Loop Browser

Does anyone know if MIDI loops can be manually added to the Loop Browser?

that's as simple as make an apple loop with an audio file.
    4 exemple:
u open exs 24, u record some drums, u open a compressor, eq ,etc(even non apple plug in).when ur happy with wath uv done,u just go to the menu region > add to aplle loops library
choose it a tag and it 's done.don't forget to define the right signature key (if it's a musical region),and well place the locator!
u can now open it in every project as an audio file or as a midi file, then logic will automaticaly open the right plug in (instrument,compressor,reverb,etc....)
    extremaly usefull.

  • Midi Apple Loops Problem

    Hi,
Im having some issues with the midi apple loops loosing some effects that are heard when previewed in the media section, then once dragged into the arrange it'll loose for example a prevalent reverb and other notable sonic qualities...even when the plug-ins that are usually bypassed once dragged into arrange window are activated its still lacking from the preview loop heard.
    Wa gwahn?

This is normal behavior. If you want the midi loop to sound exactly like auditioned in the preview you will have to create an audio track and move the midi region onto the audio track, and then it will sound exactly the same.

  • Midi Apple Loops sound different when dragged on to song

When ever I drag a green midi loop from Apple Loops to my song it sounds different. All the effects are gone. I tried to put som reverb on it but it doesn't sound like it does wheyn played in the Apple Loops bar.
How can I use the green midi loops from Apple Loops as they sound there with that effect. The blue audio Apple Loops works fine.
I had this same problem in Logic Pro 9

There are some differences between the audio file previews contained in the loop and the actual data, sometimes by error, sometimes intentionally so.
For instance, if you preview an orchestral instrument, you hear it with reverb, as that's kinda how it's intended to sound, but when you drag it into Logic proper, you don't get reverb - because you will have one global reverb you send all the orchestral instrument too, rather than a hundred individual reverbs on each instrument.
Stuff like that. It varies, but there's nothing broken as such.

Check conflict between Logic Pro X and external device. ????????   PLZ HELP

It means you are overtaxing the CPU, likely with just one (3rd party-)software instrument plugin. Ignore the word "external", in this context it often means "3rd party plugin".
So what synth is it? Since you're Dutch, it's probably one of the trancy dancy synths, such as Albino, Diva, Sylenth or Massive... I could be wrong though...
The best way to avoid this message is to Freeze the track with the guilty synner - however, a frozen track cannot be edited, so if that is a problem, you will have to make the synth itself run lighter, which can be achieved by turning of internal effects that are ON the synth itself, especially reverb.

  • Some of the audio out of my mac sounds as if there's a reverb effect on top

Mostly on videos, using VLC and quicktime it sounds as though there's a reverb/delay effect on top of the audio.. it's really annoying... haven't noticed it in any DAW's such as Ableton Live/Reason or Logic just in things like itunes,safari,vlc,quicktime.. it's quite strange

the problem persists no matter what i'm using. I've used my monitor pair(m-audio bx5a's), the inbuilt speakers and a pair of headphones...
I believe it has something to do with the inbuilt soundcard as when i attach an external soundcard to the bx5a's there is no reverb..
I just did a test two seconds ago.
Basically, i opened up ableton live (standard DAW) and put a kick drum beat on loop.
The output config was simply 'built in output'.
I first listened back on the monitors via the headphone out... bass drum has reverb on it.. out of nowhere?!
repeated the process with my headphones via the headphone-out .. same tail of reverb.. again out of nowhere.
I then repeated the process with just the inbuilt speakers.. again lots of tail..
Having done all this i attached my numark omni control midi controller which has an inbuilt sound card plugged the monitors into the output of the controller.. bass drum comes out clean as a whistle...
ugh.. hope there isn't some sort of sound card related dilemma..
being a music technology student facing this problem is both embarrassing and frustrating!!! not many people would notice it in the first place!!!
So far i've considered two possible reasons for my dilemma-
    1. There's something wrong with my internal sound card
    2. I've installed some piece of software or changed some setting within some random piece of software that's effected all of the audio out of the inbuilt card...
man alive, it's annoying whatever it is.

  • How do I get MIDI to work with individual plug-ins?

I'm using Logic Studio/Pro 8.02. I have Guitar Rig 4 loaded as an AUi, mono audio input, stereo output & MIDI on Channel 16. I'm using a Behringer FCB1010 as my MIDI controller. I can't seem to figure out how to (of if I can) get the FCB to control the MIDI of Guitar Rig. I have to admit, I'm a bit confused as to how the MIDI controllers & such work in Logic. I don't really see any way to set them up.
I'm basically trying to get the stomp boxes in Guitar Rig to work. I've got it working fine as a standalone & in other DAW (Reaper), but I can't get it to work in Logic Pro. WILL IT???  Any help would be most appreciated. THANKS!

Maybe my question wasn't clear. I know GR4 params, I set them up myself. It is working as a standalone & in other apps, but just not in Logic. I just can't get Logic to let the MIDI data go to GR4. It seems that Logic also has some preset controllers too. For example, CC31 is set to grab reverb & CC32 gets Delay. I have no idea where they're set, but I'm using them for my GR4 setup & Logic keeps grabbing them.
Does anyone know where the 'default' CC settings are set in Logic? I can't find them. Thanks for any help I can get.

  • Can I add reverb to just snare and toms with Roadhouse Kit?

I'm a real novice to Logic (although very experienced in engineering with tape machines and mixing desks). We've knocked together our first song using logic and I drummed a pattern in using a keyboard to trigger MIDI drums which has been recorded into Logic.
So, if I go into the drum track I can see the drum kits with a keyboard on the left hand side showing the "notes" (ie the actual drum hits). I can click on those MIDI notes and hear a drum being hit.
What I would like to do is add reverb to *just* the snare and toms. I can send the whole kit to an aux send or "bus" as logic seems to call it and get reverb on the whole kit, but do not want that.
The way we've done this, is it as all possible to just get reverb on select instruments?
    Thanks for your help.

Yep, that totally makes sense! Is it possible to take what I already have and split those MIDI events into separate tracks? So, take each drum in turn and give them their own track or do I really have to start from scratch.
I'm not really asking for a tutorial, more just a yes or no. I can Google for tutorials if it is possible.
    Many thanks.
