X-Fi notebook, No digital outp

Hi all, I have recently bought the X-Fi notebook soundcard for my new laptop (Dell Vostro 500) and I was hoping to plug the digital output from this card to the Creative Decoder DDTS-00 that I have via the coaxial cable that came with the decoder, which is subsequently hooked up to the Creative Gigaworks s750 speaker system. This worked fine on my old desktop computer, where i used the digital out from the Audigy 2 ZS pci card that was installed. However, I cannot get a digital output at all from the soundcard. I have set up Vista output to the x-fi digital out, and set Powerdvd to use SPDIF, but still nothing on music or movies. I bought this card purely for its digital output, and the fact that it doesn't work at all, is more than just a little annoying
!!! Has anyone else experienced this issue I have tried to email Creative support, but they have been ridiculously unhelpful and just kept asking the same questions again and again, then said: "We may have released a driver update to support it, however our software team are still trying to make some improvement or address several issues occurring in Windows Vista. But as far as the issue is concern, other users might not have experience the same thing."
Please please please can somebody help me :-( Thanks Jay

can anyone at all please help? xxx

I just bought one today to put in my home theater pc,I cant seem to get the option of the bypass for the digital audio to go to my reciever to be decoded there.Could I be missing something or is this not possible with this particular card. It works but only in stereo mode,I read up on it and the option I saw in the audio console dont even appear in mine and the updated drivers wont even install on it.

Unfortunately X-fi cards don't support digital sound for more than 2. speakers. Not only audio but also the most expensi've version of the sound card! I have the same problem - I have Xtreme Music and Inspire 5700 digital speakers and can't get sound from rear speakers! Only when you play DVD movies you can have dolby digital 5. but music and games - NO!Message Edited by ox007 on -2-200703:49 PM

  • Digital Outp

I'm using a SB Li've! 24 bit card that is connected to my receiver via the digital output port with a y splitter. I used to have the regular SB Li've! card and when digital output was selected I could play through my receiver. Now, however, nothing happens. Are there other settings I need to fix or other way I need to connect it's

I don't remember if that particular card has digital output configuration, but you might want to check how it's outputting it's signal when using digital out. If it's going higher than your receiver supports, you won't hear anything.

My ex just purchased an MSI GT627-218US for $1299 - by all reviews and its specs and EXCELLENT notebook and amazing "bang for your buck".
I'm probably going to be purchasing one myself in the next few months.
One problem though:  Best Buy does NOT carry that laptop, or anything else made by MSI.  Probably 3/4 of BB's notebooks are HP.    (I have a very strong dislike for HP computers in terms of build quality.)

  • Laughably bad customer service

    The experience:
11 month old Yoga 13 - love the computer overall
Knocked it off the table last night, freaked out, picked it up, not too bad! Broke the middle piece of the DC-in jack, but was able to make it work in the meantime. Simple, cheap part, and a relatively simple fix so I figure I dodged a bullet.
    The trouble begins!
    1. Call the Lenovo authorized service provider (per lenovo.com) in my area. They stopped servicing Lenovos two years ago, but the website never gets updated.
    2. Call the next closest authorized service center (2 hours away from me).
Them: "We only service Think- systems."
Me: "No big deal, this isn't covered by warranty anyway, but can you help me get the part?"
Them: "Best bet is to try eBay."
    Me: "Um, is that trustworthy?"
Them: "Yeah, most of the time."
    Oh, here we go.
    3. Search for part online, find Lenovospareparts.com!!! They're official and authorized! Website says to call since the site won't be updated after Nov 2013 (this is the official parts site?). Okay, I call.
Before even asking for the part number they want my name, email, cell phone number, alternate phone number, and mailing address. Annoying, but they'll surely have the part since this is Lenovo's official number, so I give them all of the info. Finally, he asks for part number -
Lenovo Rep: "Oh, for the Yogas we don't usually have parts in stock, but I'll check."  (I get a feeling for how this will go.) "Nope, we don't have it. I can put in a request but that usually takes two months or more."
Me: "I don't understand how you don't have the part.  The computer is less than a year old."
Rep: "Yessir, we can repair it for you for a fee."
Me: "Sure, I realize this isn't covered by warranty and there's a fee, but how long would that take?"
Rep: "About a week after we receive it from you. It'll be an $80 deposit to start." (The part itself is only ~$10)
Me: "So you have the part to fix it if I pay you, but you don't have the part to sell to me even though I'm more than capable?"
Rep: "Yessir, while you may be capable, Lenovo doesn't want customers fixing their own computers as it might mess things up and would void the warranty." (The warranty only has about two weeks left on it, so by the time I get it back from them it'll be out of warranty anyway, and to reitterate, this isn't covered by warranty anyway!)
Me: "This is very frustrating and ridiculous, but I realize you're not the one responsible, so thank you for your help." (I worked customer service for years and realize he's just the front line guy, not the one making decisions - no ill will towards him.)
TL;DR: Lenovo site full of bad info. Closest Lenovo authorized service center won't service my 11-month old Yoga, suggest I look on eBay for parts. Lenovo themselves will take two months to find the part for me to buy, but will have the part in a week if I pay them to fix it. Now I'm off to eBay.
I hate Dell as a rule, but the fact they're just down the road and there are parts galore mean I'm going to have to consider them now for computer purchases where I work. I love this Yoga, and wanted to price similar systems for my staff, but I can't risk having to deal with this on a regular basis.

  • Need advice on a strong laptop for playing/ recording music / .wav files

I primarily use my laptop for music and enjoy making .wav files and hooking up to main stereo of house.  I've been experimenting with my daughter's laptop but I had to buy a sound card that attaches to the laptop.  Are there any good laptops out there with a good enough sound card available internally?  On my desktop I had a similar problem and needed to upgrade sound card to get the "what U hear" option.

Recording is a different story.  In general, almost no system will have good internal recording capability, even with an internal addon card.  Recording is best done with an external device.
You are confusing TOSLINK optical ouputs with digital coax outputs which are what they normally put on multi-media desktops to provide digital audio output though some older desktops did have TOSLINK ports. There was a period of time several years ago when you might find TOSLINK on a high-end multi-media notebook but digital coax was the standard in those days and that has obviously been replaced by HDMI which carries both digital audio and video signals.
In my experience, when it comes to laptops, HDMI will produce no sound. I too have seen a handful of laptops that support TOSLINK in the form of a 3.5mm connector, and even the standard sqare connector(not common, however).
If you aren't getting sound from your HDMI port that means your digital audio output is incorrectly configured, the digital audio signal is not in a format that your HDTV or display can recognize (simply uncheck the Dolby Digital, DTS, or WMA Pro boxes in the properties panel for your digital audio output), or the port on your display doesn't accept digital audio or is set to use analog audio in the settings. If you look in your TV's manual or dig up the manual online, the specs page will tell you what digital audio formats it accepts if any. A lot of older HDTVs with HDMI, as well as a lot of the first monitors with it, didn't accept digital audio over HDMI because they were using repurposed DVI chipsets which could be modified for use with HDMI by swapping out the DVI connector with an HDMI jack due to the fact that HDMI shares it's base video protocols with DVI. All it takes is fifteen seconds to figure it out if you know what you're doing.
Ya, a mere few hours after I made that post, a friend hooked up his newer laptop to my TV via HDMI, and sure enough...there was sound. Me stands corrected.

  • Simple pass not working - Win 10 Preview

Hi, Simple pass is not working on Windows 10.  When I load it up it says that I seem to have some trouble - do you want to try again... but I don't get any further... trying the Win 10 Preview log in (PC Settings)  with finger print gives an error.  I saw : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/HP-SimplePass-Identity-Protection-Validity-fingerprint-and/m-p/742013 but it was for Win 7.    Is there something I can do to get finger print working ? my laptop is : HP Pavilion DV6 6053ea

  • I want to find the digital audio output on my Pavilion vd6853ea notebook

I have spent far too long trying to find where this output is located.
I have a very good Hifi and at the moment am using a USB cable to connect to my DAC.
It looks like there is a realtec digital output somewhere on the notebook as it show up when I go into the playback devices and it tests ok visually.
The 3.5 jack plug is just analog and not a hybrid spdif.
    Where is it????????
Please help as I am getting really fed up now!

I thought that may have to be the case.
Can I please ask you a few other questions?
If I want to get a digital audio output not using a HDMI (My DAC doesn't have this input), can I get a good result with something like a Musical Fidelity V link USB to S/Pdif converter or a M2Tech Hiface digital audio interface? Sorry,  I cannot make a recommendation on either of those products as I am not familiar with them.
Is it possible to change the sound card with an optical or coaxial output? Your notebook's sound is an integrated solution. It is a chip soldered (integrated) onto the system board. It can't be updated.
Thanks again for the kind help!

  • Saving a DRM book to pendrive/external disk to later download and read it on personal notebook (with Adobe Digital Editions)

    Hello.
I installed Adobe Digital Editions on my mother's personal computer and activated my Adobe ID in order to be able to purchase, download and read DRM books there.
But is it possible to save the DRM books to a pendrive or external hard disk, so that I can "carry them" and later download and read them on my personal notebook (having previously installed Adobe Digital Editions and activated my Adobe ID in the notebook)?
I don't know if DRM books can be saved to pendrives and external hard disks...

Incidentally, you do know that you can buy kindle or Nook apps for your ipad? I was assuming you wanted a DE-specific app.
EDIT Actually, those apps are free--you just pay for what you buy through them, if that helps you any.
Incidentally, O'Reilly, my publisher, uses PDF for real galley purposes, although they do create epub editions of their books for distribution. You might want to ask the publishers you work with if there's another format available.

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

  • Audigy 2 ZS Notebook with DTT3500 Digital

    Hi
Sorry my very bad english, but i'm from Switzerland...
I have a problem. How can i use my Audigy 2 ZS Notebook with my DTT3500 Digital? SPDIF works with the optical cable. I want to use the decoder in the Soundcard, but the DTT 3500 has just green and black. But not orange, for center an subwoofer...
Is there a way to use this? With a special cable or something like that?
    Thanks a lot, Rumblejack

    Rumblejack,
Unfortunately the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook doesn't have a DIN on it which was the only way that the DTT3500 supported 5. outside of DVD passthrough over an optical or RCA connection. This means that to use the decoder on the card you will need a different set of speakers, as the DTT3500 speakers were designed with a different set of cards in mind.
If you decide to replace your speakers you might look at the Inspire T-5400, although they are less expensi've, they are actually more powerful speakers that the DTT3500s. They don't have a decoder (not needed since most of our cards now have built in decoders) so the price on them is much lower.

  • USB "Windows cannot verify the digital signature" and No Audio in Notebook

    Model: HP Pavilion DV6
    OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
I recently started to face this issue with the USB drivers and no audio from the internal speakers of my notebook.
ON checking the USB drivers, it says that Windows cant verify digital signature.
I uninstalled, restarted the notebook but the newly installed drivers have the same issue. Even tried to update the drivers, but to no avail.
I am even facing issue with no audio from internal speakers.
Uninstalled and reinstalled ATI High Def Audio Device and IDT High Def Audio CODEC - the drivers look good, but when I test sound in Control Panel - it fails to play test sound.
I have installed all Windows updates and the new HP Support Assistant and all other updates.
    NOTHING works!
    Please help!

I've got a temporary fix , but it sounds like you need a full recovery . After the HP/Compaq Screen flashes and disappears at startup , start pressing F8 like a boss (4 or 5 times) , you'll see a screen pop up with many options on it , near the bottom is one that says "disable driver signature requirement" or something similar . Arrow down and select that one , don't think it works after reboot , but like I said , it's just a temporary fix .
    hope that helped
If it did hit me with some Kudos , I need all the help i can get .
