X-Fi Platinum - Distortion in Entertainment M

Hello all,
I just bought said card and am having said problem. I only get the distortion in Entertainment mode. Basically when I switch to it I get feedback thru my speakers even though I don't have anything (program/game/movie) playing. It happens when I am just sitting at the desktop. Sound plays beautifully in either of the other modes and there is no static feedback when I'm not doing anything. This seems like a really strange problem to have... Any help would be appreicated.
I am running all the new drivers and program updates that Creative has available on WinXP Pro. Previous to this I have not had any problems at all. I did all the basics; reinstalled software and drivers, even tried a new PCI slot. I didn't figure it would work.

  • Setup problem of Entertainment Center for Windows 7.

There is a problem with Creative's Entertainment Center for Sound Blaster X-Fi. In the download section for my SB X-Fi Platinum card, the Entertainment Center setup file is only available for Windows Vista and not for Windows 7. Even if I choose compatible mode for Windows Vista it won't work because in the installation process you'll get an error message when it's almost about to finish all the time at the same spot. It would be great if someone could correct this now because it has been like this for a long time.

B? You have Creative Console Launcher, I believe and that is the program you can use to change between audio creation, entertainment and gaming mode. Each mode highlights the card's specialities in that area. You have a vitural multi-track mixer in audio creation mode. You have Dolby and DTS encoder/decoder options in entertainment mode, and you have a generic access to the cards other features in gaming mode.

  • X-FI platinum, huge problem please help. entertainment mode distortion, screeching Vista 32

My x-fi platinum just out of the blue stopped working. When it was working it still had problems of not being detected by the computer till i restarted it several times. Now when i play any kind of sound when its on it plays distorted screeching sounds or just completly stops, this is in Entertainment mode. now when i switch to audio creation or game mode. It plays fine for a bit, and then screeching, static noises start playing. It use to work fine on entertainment mode but for some reason everything has halted. I play my music/sounds through a external receivor which my sound card is connected to. I think it might have something to do with a spdif output problem, but im still not sure. I tried unplugging my other pci cards other then my cga and i still have the problem. I dont know if some setting in the bios was disabled or enabled or what as im pulling my hair out over this issue.Message Edited by plokkr23 on 2-04-20070:02 AM

im getting something similar. Can you check your Sound Control panel and tell me - when the distortion is most evident - if microphone is MUTED or Not. I have NO SOUND issues when Microphone is muted, but when it isn't - whether the microphone is plugging in or not - i have tons of distortion. It began out of no where, within the last 3 days.
I've found minor temp fixes that don't fix the problem and I wish i knew a long term one, or even what the hell caused it.

  • X-Fi Platinum heavy distortion on single game

Came up with a problem that my X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series card distorts extremely heavy sounds on one specific game, Mount&blade. I have previously encountered same kind of distortion and crackle few times but they have been for all system and restart has always fixed them. I think I have currently tried everything I can think of and it still ain't working.
I'm slightly at loss because the problem is only with this one game. I have uninstalled both cards drivers and the game multiple times. I have also tried deleting suspicious registry entries concerning the game or creative after the uninstall. What's interesting is that the game's sequel, which is pretty much the same game with extra content works without flaw. Motherboards own soundcard works too. The sounds distorts heavily on both digital and analog outputs.
Can't really think of anything more to do. Pretty much only think could be to change sound card, I do not want to install my operating system all again. Where on earth could there be a data stored that tells drivers to handle this game other way than others? Any help would be greatly appreciated. t

Doubt the problem is with the game, I have patched, tweaked every single button and reinstalled it a dozen times. As said, game sounds work ok with mb own soundcard. Having been played this game for over a year with only problems coming form Creative drivers distorting the sound I'm pretty much convicted the problem is at the Creative side. Gave drivers a few more total cleanups and reinstalls and the god**** soundcard installation froze my whole system up. Even the restart jammed totally until I took the card off from device manager at safe boot. Some quality. Think I have got enough of Creative products.

  • Distortion / Crackles on Audigy 2 Platinum

    Hi all,
Yesterday my Audigy 2 Platinum eX soundcard arri'ved in the post. I'm impressed with the quality, however there is some distortion and "fuzzyness" at some frequencies which is very irritating.
I've tried altering the settings and resetting them to the default but nothing seems to work. At the start of the Kaiser Chief's song "Modern Way" some faint but noticable crackling can be heard. The problem is a lot worse on more complex songs such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Get On Top." On this track it sounds a lot more like distortion than crackling and it's not ignorable.
The problem is not with my speakers. I've tried it with my 5. surround sound, hi-fi speakers and headphones and the distortion can be heard on all of these at all volumes. I think I'm right in saying that this means the problem must be with the card, the card's driver or settings.
I'm running the latest drivers which I obtained from the Creative site.
Anyone else had similar problems or have any suggestions? I'm thinking about sending it back because I'm not very happy.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I have tried:
    - Using different PCI ports
    - Reseating PCI card
    - Reinstalling latest drivers from website
My onboard sound drivers have been uninstalled and the device has been disabled in the BIOS.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Zs Platinum Pro sound distorti

Hi,First I have tried searching the forum but not found anything helpfull. My setup:?Soundblaster Audigy 2 Zs Platinum ProAsus K8V-VMCambridge megaworks 550 (or similiar name) speakers?anyway, i've just put the above motherboard in as my old one died. Both motherboards have had the same distortion problem. I used to be able to combat it by using the CD provided and put more sound through the back speakers as by default it seems to put everything through the front. This would lessen the distortion and make listening to things bare able but my onboard sound would still be better then my dedicated card. Has anyone found a proper fix for this as a lot of people seem to have trouble with this card?
I would like to add I had this problem from day !! and for a audio setup that cost me ?400 that shouldnt be happening!!! (a long time ago)

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro distortion/pops please help

I have already tried to talk to the Creative support and they didn't have a solution that worked so then it hit me, what if this problem has something to do with the motherboard.
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 G54 Platinum. A Athlon 64 3500+ 2 x 512 MB RAM and a geforce 6800 ultra gs from gainward. The PSU is an Antec TrueBlue 480 Watt and the GFX card is running in safe mode due to freezing problems.
My problem is that when hardware acceleration or EAX is enabled in games the sound can sometimes be ditsorted or popping (best description I can give). This problem is rare and always happend with certain effects/sounds in games like Rome Total War and Halo.
I have tried everything Creative know (reinstalled drivers... the list is many pages long...). The Speakers (Z-680 from logitech) are working perfectly.
Is there anyone that know a solution for this problem because it is starting to bug me (and made Creatve rather puzzled).
    Lots of thanks in advance.
And a sick amount of thanks to the one that has a good solution.

Before we go blaming the motherboard, let's exhaust all of the other possibilities, eh?
If you open up your audio properties (right-click on the speaker in your toolbar and select "Adjust Audio Properties), where are your volume settings?  What you are describing sounds as though you may have one or more of your volume settings at the maximum which would CERTAINLY cause the distortion and pops you are describing.
The best method for setting your volume would be to set your speaker volume (the physical knob on your speakers) at a comfortable mid-point and then slowly adjust the software volume settings upwards until you just start to hear any distortion -- and then back it down until that distortion is gone.  Then you can turn the knob on your speakers to get the volume level you're after.
    Good luck.

I am a music producer/dj and use my sound card quite extensi'vely, since upgrading to Vista I have experienced more and more sound distortion as time goes on. The distortion mainly occurs in Direct Sound applications such as mp3 players (Winamp, Windows Media Player) as well as when playing compressed avi files which also utilise mp3 compression.
Using ASIO enabled production applications such as Fruity Loops Studio 7 does not cause as much distortion although it still occurs at some points resulting in a system freeze and a BSOD.
When distortion occurs sound becomes as what i can only describe as "computerized" and CPU usage goes up dramatically to the point where mouse movement on the screen becomes really jumpy if playing wave data this progresses until the system freezes if however I close winamp or another app playing direct sound CPU usage drops and system becomes stable again until an mp3 or any wave data is played again.
I have tried some of the possible solutions posted on these forums such as turning off enhancements such as CSS and changing the output quality but so far none of these have been successful.
I have managed to get everything else working fine in Vista apart from sound. If anyone has any recommendations as to what I could do to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.Message Edited by euphoria_aus on 04-03-200707:5 AM

    Decrip,
The lineouts on the card are functioning as long as digital output only is not enabled. So this should work.

  • Audigy 2 ZS platinum sound distorted and muff

Too bad one cant rant as one might like in this forum. Had writtend all the details that transpired but when i pressed the submit post, my original post was lost due to expiration of time for my ticket.
    Now, i use telegraph details.
Bought Audigy 2 ZS platinum, bad sound Distorted and muffled from the speakers except center speaker and no sound at all from rear center speaker. Same setup using Audigy Platinum, zero problems.
    Using
    Asus a7n8x-e Deluxe MB
    024GB PC3200 Ram
    ATI 9800 Pro AIW
Sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
    Creative DDTS-00 Decoder
    Creative Inspire 6600 Speakers/Creative Inspire 5300 Speakers

    Fabrizziov,
Is the sound muffled and distorted when you plug headphones into the headphone out on the platinum dri've? If not, plug the headphones into the sound card's front output and run a speaker test to see if it is muffled and distorted from there. If it is then it is most likely a problem with the card's hardware. If this is the case I would suggest exchanging it for another through your retailer. You can also contact support for a repair if needed. Their contact information is at http://us.creative.com/support/custsup.

  • When is Creative Entertainment Center coming to the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum P

    <SPAN>Hi all
<SPAN>Does anybody know if/when Creative Entertainment Center is coming to the Audigy 2 ZS platinum PRO. I have seen it running on the Audigy 4 PRO/ X-Fi on review sites and it appears to be a lot better than our Remote Centre had has a lot more functionality as well as charisma (the graphics look good to).
<SPAN>Are us Audigy 2 ZS Platinum PRO users going to receive this wonderful package, or is it going to be just for those who are privileged to own the X-Fi or the Audigy 4 PRO.
    <SPAN>Thanks for any information/updates

Creative doesnt seem to hav plans to release Entertainment center for Audigy 2 ZS. But theres a way to install and use Entertainment center with AUDIGY 2 ZS Platinum/Pro. I first installed the Audigy 4 Modded PAX drivers for Audigy2 ZS with all softwares(i downloaded Audigy 4 ISO) , Then i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled Audigy 2 ZS drivers , and again installed Entertainment Center, Guess what now Audigy 4 doesnt prompt me that i dont have the required HARD WARE before installation starts, and i can install ny Audigy 4 software(nothing much new though , only Entertainment center and Smart Recorder). and i am now enjoying Entertainment CENTER with my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and with Audigy 2 drivers!!!!.
I think its not proper on part of CREATIVE not to release Ent. Center for Audigy 2, as the IO box and remote control of Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 are the same( RM-500 remote). so wats the point in keeping Ent. Center just for Audigy 4 and Up?
BELOW IS MY ANALYSIS OF ENTERTAINMENT CENTER, just giving the pros and cons so that Audigy 2 Platinum/Pro Users can decide whether its GOOD or NOT
    On the PLUS SIDE
    + it has nice interface
    + Good handling of playlists
    +DVD Playback
    +Slideshow and presentation support
    On the NEAGATIVE SIDE
    - Every time u want to perform PAUSE, NEXT TRACK, PREVIOUS TRACK operations the Ent. Center pops up as a FULL screen app. interupting u r current TASK
    - Also it is not integrated with MEDIA SOURCE Player,(i.e when u start playing song with ent. center it doesnt get layed with MEDIASOURCE so not DTS Neo:6 Playback!!!)
-Even the Press of CMSS button takes u to the full screen app. again causing INTERRUPTION!!!!!
    - Doesn't Have a SEARCH option to search for tracks from thee Library
    - No BASS/TREBLE/BALANCE Control thru. it

Just set your software DVD player to SPDIF output and make sure the A2ZS is set for SPIDF decode.

  • Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro in Vista x64: "Skipping" (Distortion) when record

Hi! I've just setup Vista x64 and installed the latest Drivers for my Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro. Besides the fact that there's no software available for convenient control of the features of my soundcard (Surround Mixer, Speaker Settings, THX Console etc.), everything is fine for playback (after adjusting the bass and treble-sliders to their 0dB-Position!). But I've got a massive problem when recording audio, or when using the microphone: I can play back sound from any source without distortion, but when recording it or using the microphone for VoIP-Applications like Skype, Teamspeak or In-game communication, I get a constant "skipping" distortion like the clicking when a CD is defective and skips.
It sounds like short disruptions which come at regular, very short intervals (approx. 0 per second or so). This effect is always present, irrespective of the load situation of the system and does not change with it. In XP32, my Audigy 2ZS still works like a charme. Furthermore, I've got a "PCI Input Device" in Device Manager with a question mark, although the Firewire-Port does work. Could this be the Gameport not beeing recognised But that's not nearly as problematic as the flaw from above... Thanks in advance for your advice!

I'd like to also add that I have been observing this same problem for quite some time now. While I do not frequently have a need to record, that is changing now and I would rather not have to reboot to Windows XP in order to have functional recording capabilities.
I am currently running a dual-boot configuration of Windows XP/SP2 and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit/SP, with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum soundcard, and the latest drivers available for the card as of today's date (0/7/2008).
A clip of audio to illustrate the problem may be heard by saving and playing the MP3 file found at http://ambress.com/audigy/audio_recording_fault.mp3. The following graphic also illustrates how the sound is like a series of recorded pulses, making recording completely useless.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback confirming this problem by Creative and what solution is available or when one is to be expected. If a solution is known by any users that perhaps I have missed in searching the forum, of course I'd be grateful for that help as well.
    Thank you,
    Daryl

  • Audio from headphones gets distorted when switched to "entertainment mode" w

the sound quality from my headphones gets messed up whenever I switch to "entertainment mode." when i say "messed up," i mean the volume would constantly fluctuate from really high to just noise then high again.
however, when i switch it to "game mode" all the problems disappear.
why are my headphones (sennheiser pc50) not compatible with "entertainment mode?"
    i have a creative x-fi xtrememusic card.

I had a similar problem using X-Fi Fatalty. By similar I mean everything worked until switching to entertainment mode. When in entertainment mode all audio had a horrible amount of loud static and noise riding on it. This wasn't limited to headphones though as the same occurred using my 2. speaker system. I was using the latest driver, from June of '06 I believe.
I rolled back to the driver on my install CD (version 5.2.2.43 dated 8/8/2005)and it solved the issue.

  • Entertainment Mode distorted and farty sound

My entertainment mode is horrible. Music and movies sound like crap. When I switch to the other two modes, it sounds fine, but I want the features I paid for to actually work. Are there any settings I can change to fix this?
I've cleaned the drivers up, installed the latest, onboard sound is already disabled, yadda, yadda, yadda...
    Here are my specs:
    XP SP3 RC
    ECS A770M-A
    2 GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
    AMD x2 5600 2 MB L2
    XFI Extreme Gamer
    Fatality GeForce 8500
I'm also having the microphone issues and my settings don't seem to be saving.

  • MSI X48C Platinum OC setting from DDR1200 to DDR1600

I'm finally back.  I got depressed about that last attempt with my X48C Platinum setup with Corsair XMS3 1600 MHz.
The problem was that MemTest checked it out fine, but I was getting lock-ups.  On retesting errors would only be reported on the 10th pass --- which took some time to find out.  Everything sat on the shelf and I was the butt of many jokes with my MSI board.
I've popped for some Mushkin DDR3 1600 MHz and am just burning it in @ DDR1200.
MemTest is reporting RAM bandwidth @ 5,211 MB/s which is acceptable, however I'd like to see a stable performance around 5,800 MB/s.
    This Mushkin is 9-9-9-24.
What I'm having trouble with now is the OC setting to get even a single pass with this Mushkin.
Could you guys help out with some simple, straightforward tweaks necessary for the BIOS for running this RAM @ DDR1600 ?
    Thanks a bunch.
    Klaus.s

I just received a hand-delivered letter from my MOM, and she says I should include some more information.
    So here goes.
    CPU = x9770 @ 3.20 GHz
    BIOS = 7.4  12082009
    RAM = 4096 or 2x 2048
    Advanced = MPS 1.4
CPU = Virtualization Technology = Enabled (VMM can utilize additional HW caps) [I don't know what this is or if it's a good thing for stable performance]
CPU = Execute Bit Support = Disabled (Force XD feature flag to always return 0) [I don't know what this is or if it's a good thing for stable performance]
CPU = Set Limit CPUID MAXVAL to 3 = Disabled (Some OS's cannot handle >3) [I'm going to install Win.XP.Pro.32-bit]
Chipset = HPET = Disabled [I don't what this is, or if it's a good thing for stable performance]
Chipset = DRAM = Non-ECC (Options are ECC or Non-ECC) [I'm kind of onto this.  ECC is for 24x7 service such as web-servers that don't have the option for re-boots, and does a constant hot-sector swap/test thingy to ensure constant CRC checks or some-such, right ?]
Chipset = Ative State Power Management = Disabled (PCI-E L0 & L1 Link Power state) [I don't know what this is or if it's a good thing for stable performance for my NVidia GeForce GTX 295 -- just one]
Trusted Computing = TCG/TPM Support = NO (Enable/Disable TCG (TPM 1.1/1.2) [I'm sorry.  I don't know what this is or if it's a good thing for stable performance.  I've got about 3 other books that'd be nice to read in the sun between some gaming, but it'd be kind of nice if there was a nice little reference material in the User Manual instead of having to go to Google for every little thing that may or may not be relevant, especially in some kind of priority ---- as in is this something that is on the front burner and I should turn it on to get some water boiling, or should I just let this simmer on the back burner because it's not really all that relevant and other settings are going to demand attention now for immediate results.  I hope you can get my simple point.]
    H/W Monitor CPU = 38
    H/W Monitor System = 31
H/W Monitor CPU fan = 1915  [seems a little fast, but maybe after I get everything else tweaked I'll come back to this & turn this down somehow]
    H/W Monitor CPU = 1.272 - 1.280v
    H/W Monitor 3.3v = 3.328
    H/W Monitor 5v = 4.961
    H/W Monitor 12v = 12.144 - 12.232
    H/W Monitor 5v SB = 4.992
    H/W Monitor Icore = 16.xxx - 29.xxx A
    H/W Monitor I 12v = 1.983 -3.320 A
H/W Monitor 51 - 156%  [Well it seems like the voltages are nice & tight.  Where I have put the "-" is because the values flicker around.  My science teacher would love to have a fit over this, where the decimal is reported to 3 places, but the value in the 1st place would be all that is required, or worse.  Anyhow, at least there are no sparks flashing up or smoke bellowing out.]
CELL MENU = DOT = Disabled [I'm sorry, yet another of many acronyms that I'm not familiar with.  I guess I'm going to need a link to some FAQ that wasn't available when the manual was being printed.  Sure wouldn't mind though.  It just seems that what is required on my part, isn't just the money to buy all this 'stuff' but the time to invest in sorting through a lot of reading, studying and experimenting.  Sure would be nice to just click on DRAM Frequency = 1600 MHz, and all the associated voltages and whatnot sync to match what is required. Maybe I could take this experience and start writing some comic books or something.]
CELL MENUS = Intel EIST = Disabled (GV3 Technology) [I'm sorry, just another item in the don't know what this is, never seen it before, don't have it on the other Quad core motherboard, and have at least the modicum of a clue that it might just be relevant to know more about this.  I'm looking forward to reading the forthcoming links.]
CELL MENU = CPU FSB = 400 (200 - 800) [Wow.  This'd be nice to crank up, but am I simply going to get a constant series of black screens, and then have to press the CLR button on the back of the board, and have to re-enter all the values in the BIOS all over again.  Now this would be some valuable information to know just the range of possibilities, instead of poking around in the dark for endless hours.  Ranges can be good, but maybe just a hint of practical ranges would be just that much better.]
CELL MENU = CPU Ratio = 8 [Now this is one that I've fiddled around with quite a bit, and the ratio on the MoBo goes all the way to 60, but I have had the guts to save this value on an exit to boot.  With the rocking CPU, I'm sure I can get nosebleeds, but just what that ratio is, well, that would be nice to know a practical value that won't cause black screens or a lump of pins that winds up on the top of the lava-lamp for topical discussion.]
CELL MENU = Advanced DRAM = By SPD = Enabled [This Muskin is supposed to be some honking RAM, so maybe it's best to leave the chips sort this out for now, but then maybe again, just maybe there are some practical values to insert here that are realistic and more functional than what has been pre-programmed into inert silicon & gold.  Right now I simply do not find it within the grey matter between by ears at this moment.  Not in the User Manual either.]
CELL MENU = Advanced DRAM = MCH Read Delay (tPD) = Auto (Other choices 4 - 15) [Now I sense that this might be close to the 9-9-9-18 ratings, however I'm not brave enough to just set this to 9.  There seems just too many other settings what with the voltages etc to know just what practical options would be viable, again, without a lot of time to experiment.]
CELL MENU = Advanced DRAM = 1N/2N = Augo (Other choices 1N & 2N) [Seems like something associated with latency, just that I don't know what is practical & viable.]
CELL MENU = FSB/MEMORY Ratio = Auto (Other choices are 1.20, 1.60, 2.00, 1.00, 1.33) [Well I do like a short list of options.  What would be nice to understand here in chart like form, is what kind of CPU ratios, RAM speeds, FSB speeds & FSB/RAM ratios are viable.  I've seen these done nicely in review forums or magazines where people are paid by the hour or month to sit with just one motherboard, or maybe get the info from the Engineers that tested the MoBo, and actually print that practical performance chart in the User Manual.  Then I could use this handy guide to follow the edges of practical options and know that I'm going to get a viable result and start putting all this hardware to use instead of idling while I'm in the BIOS on this MoBo, while I'm using another computer to browse the Internet with a lot of my time that I'd rather see invested in actual entertainment.  It isn't that I don't like the guys that provide such valuable handy practical advice here, but seeing that crowd of animated emoticons staring back at me, I'm beginning to feel like some character out of "Waking Life" not knowing if I'm creating some sort of animated dis-reality.  If you haven't seen "Waking Life" it's a thought provoker right up there with the original "Matrix," and was my first exposure to Alex Jones -- he does a marvelous job of driving around in that convertible car that can drive through water.]
CELL MENU = Adjusted DRAM Frequency = 1200 [this is greyed out.  at least it can run at this speed with a lame no-brainer BIOS effort.  I guess this is the experience that F1 driving teams go through.  My MOM could probably drive one of those @ 160 MPH with my dead, planted in the ground DAD as a mechanic, but to get 240 MPH requires a truck load of information, experienced techies, loads of time, trial, trial, trial, trial & more trial.  But hay, at least next year I can say when someone asks about all these BIOS settings that I can't remember what they were other than to leave them alone -- they worked to get it running -- and fiddling with them anymore isn't going to do anyone any good.  When Charlton Heston returns in the future to this planet overrun with talking apes, they too can pick this up in wonder and won't know any more that I will next year.]
CELL MENU = Auto Disable DIMM/PCI Frequency = Enabled [This one confuses me, because I thought that the FSB has the RAM, the CPU & maybe even the video card, and managed by the 'HUB' maybe the SB, but I keep mixing the SB & the NB, but one of these.  Then the one 'HUB' communicates to the other 'HUB' which handles the PCI slots, the SATA drives, LAN, sound, PS/2 ports, USB and I guess the eSATA port.  So wouldn't it be best to just leave alone the PCI frequency because all those devices can so easily start to loose track of the triggering voltages & start mixing up the '0'-bits from the '1'-bits and lock up?  Well, I suppose that's coming up with those magical URL links.  My brain could use a bit of exercise, just that I wasn't expecting this much mental activity before the fun began.]
ANYhoo....  I hope this exercise will drag me kicking & screaming just a little bit closer, not to the doll that wants to take me dancing, but to the games that I have waiting on the DVD's, and be able to drag some arrogant friends over to drool over the frame rate count & response, especially with the up times & lack or roar of noisy fans .... but maybe I'm projecting too much out of this digital hobby.  Maybe I'll get a hint of my future out of this experience.
Thanks for taking the time to follow my escapade to tweak the DRAM frequency form 1200 MHz to 1600 MHz, get that FSB up a bit, and see what this Quad-Core can handle for a CPU Ratio without cooking the whole combination into non-existence.
