X-Fi Platinum sound fad

Hello, all. I purchased an X-Fi Platinum card last Christmas, and it's been working exclusi'vely well until about a month ago, when, at random intervals, the sound will fade down about 45-50% for a few seconds, then bump back up to the previous setting. It happens fairly often, but not constantly. I've installed, reinstalled, and swept/installed drivers. I have a two-speaker Altec-Lansing setup, as well as a pair of Panasonic headphones. I'm having the same problem too. It's quite random when the sound fades. I can be listening to music for 20 or so minutes then the sound fades in and out every 30 to 40 seconds or so.

So when i played the movie and when to the ac3 codec and turned on dolby decoding so that i would decode it to all my speakers everything worked fine. Then when i turned on spdif decoding my center speaker?started to crackle so i figured it was just becuase i was useing spdif and dolby decoding at the same time. so i turned that off and then went to go play my xbox 360 in which i have pluged into the optical in part on the front plate. Everything had always worked fine for that i have dolby digital decodeing on for the audigy. So i started to play a game i realized that i center speaker was crackling on there too. So i started to realize that no matter what i did the center speaker was crackling. I even changed out the center and sub stereo jack on the card for the front left and right and then they started to crackle in that spot. So i dont know what the hell is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated i was thinking of restoring my computer but i dont know whether that is necessary. I am brand new to this message system but I am so desperate for help I thought I would try it. After reading lots of comments I find that my problem may be more the rule than the exception. I have an Audigy @ Platinum card and all I ever get from it is crackling and popping. I have been around and around with Creative support but nothing they tell me results in a fix. I am so disgusted at this point that I am ready to just trash the whole thing. I have gone through the BIOS and checked so many settings its a shame. Still crackling and popping. I NEED SPECIFIC ANSWERS FROM SOMEBODY...not just the generic flip the wingle wangle to port xyz and move this to that. here has got to be an answer to this maddening problem. The other thing is that now I can't get my MIDI keyboard to play back. I must have turned something off in the set up process but now I have no idea what to do.
If anyone has any solid answers for me PLEASE come forward with them before I kill someone!

Multiple Sound fade outs during slideshow on a burned DVD

Using iDVD, I created a slideshow, from an iPhoto album.
I added music from my iTunes library.
I tried it on the screen, and it worked great.
Then I burned my DVD, and tried it on my TV set with a DVD player connected to it.
It works OK, except that at each slide change, during the transition, there is a sound fade out.
Then the music continues, to the "normal" sound level.
I did it twice.
One DVD burned with the slide timing forced to 5 seconds, and once with the automatic timing, that choses the timing based on the music duration.
Same result : Sound level fluctuation (fade out/fade in)
Anyone knows the solution

Do you have more than 99 photos in this slideshow? There is an issue similar to what you described when this is the case. I also wouldn't rule out music purchased from iTunes.
Here are two suggestions.
1. If you do have more than 99 photos, create your slideshow in iPhoto, and export it as a QuickTime movie. Then drag the movie icon into the DVD window; be sure to avoid the drop zones. Complete your project in iDVD.
2. Burn the music you purchased to a CD, and reimport as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
Before you actually burn another DVD, first save as a disk image. This will allow you to view the project on your computer using the DVD player. You can catch any errors and correct them before burning the DVD.

System sounds fade up slowly on HP Pavilion s3652uk with HP w2228h Screen

I just purchased a compact HP Pavilion s3652uk which I have connected via the supplied HDMI cable to a standard HP 22in monitor with built-in rear-facing speakers. I selected HDMI output from the Realtek sound card and HDMI input for the monitor. All drivers are reported as up to date by Windows Update and HP Update. I am running Vista-64 bit.
When using the Test button to play a System Sound such as the Critical Stop sound, at first I thought sound wasn't working at all. Then I discovered that if I click Test a few times, the sound fades up until it is good and loud. Similarly, using the "Test Speakers" facility first gives the impression that a speaker is dead when the graphic is clicked, but then it fades up after nother click or so until it is very loud (because I have set everything on max). Via the Realtek HD Audio Manager I have selected HDMI and turned off environmental effects and Equalizer effects. No improvement. When I play a DVD I can hear the sound normally, although I suspect this is because the sound stream is sustained therefore it has "faded up and stayed up". This seems like it might be a compatibility problem running HDMI. My next step is to stop using HDMI and go back to standard Video and Audio connections via separate leads, but obviously it would be nicer to use the recommended composite digital video/audio connection.
Anyone encountered this or got any suggestions?

Thanks RasterBlaster, still not working but a tiny bit of progress. Here's what I did:
installed the Realtek driver despite their warning to use the driver supplied by the PC manufacturer. New driver available = Realtek Digital Output, so I selected that as Default. No sound output, because it is supplying sound to the Orange Digital Jack but I haven't got external speakers, I have got monitor built-in speakers.
Switched default back to Realtek HDMI output and sound works but with the same fade-up problem.
Checked HP drivers and found my driver was more up-to-date than the original supplied HP driver, so I reinstalled the original one just in case the new driver had introduced a bug. Still the same fade-up problem, unchanged. So I did a driver update to reinstall the latest driver 6.0.1.5772 again, simply to ensure I have the latest. Fade up problem still exists.
So, the progress mentioned is that I reckon if I went out and bought a set of external speakers with subwoofer etc, provided that they can be driven from that Orange digital jack, that may well work with the newly installed Realtek driver. It is a bit of a risk though because if it doesn't and I opened the packaging then no doubt Comet or PCWorld will not want the speakers back.
It seems kind of weird to me that HP's own PC with HP's own monitor running their own recommended software does not work correctly.

Audigy 2 ZS platinum sound distorted and muff

Too bad one cant rant as one might like in this forum. Had writtend all the details that transpired but when i pressed the submit post, my original post was lost due to expiration of time for my ticket.
Now, i use telegraph details.
Bought Audigy 2 ZS platinum, bad sound Distorted and muffled from the speakers except center speaker and no sound at all from rear center speaker. Same setup using Audigy Platinum, zero problems.

Is the sound muffled and distorted when you plug headphones into the headphone out on the platinum dri've? If not, plug the headphones into the sound card's front output and run a speaker test to see if it is muffled and distorted from there. If it is then it is most likely a problem with the card's hardware. If this is the case I would suggest exchanging it for another through your retailer. Audigy zs platinum sound prob

hi guys!
just upgraded to windows vista (32bit), and having huge problems with this sound card (sb0230, audigy zs platinum).
firsly I installed the complete drivers (around 65MB) from creative site and the sound was chopping/cracking/clicking (whatever that mean in english, **bleep**ty we would say here) when i would scroll an internet page or scroll text in word or scroll files in my computer.it even slows down a bit when scrolling. if you need to hear it, i'll post it to youtube.
then i installed the latest beta drivers (-35mb) and no change. then i installed the daniel k. drivers and again no change.
the onboard realtek soundcard works perfectly but has lower sound quality (too low for me).
the system is gigabyte ga73pvm-s2 with intel E6600, 2 gb ddr800 ram, nvidia 8500gt graphic card. the analog sound output (stereo) is connected to my cambridge audio 640a amplifier , not some crap desktop speakers.
while using windows xp there was not this problem. now using windows vista ultimate and have this huge problem.
please help me, what to do?

Audigy Platinum: Sound distor

I'm using following configuration:Roland VS-880 EX harddisk recorderAudigy Platinum EX, external break-out box. I recorded music on the Roland and when listening to it via headphone it sounds great.When I connect the Roland to an external amplifier it also sounds great.Now I connect the master output bus of the Roland to the Aux2 input of the Audigy card.When listening on the headphone connected to the break-out box it sounds great. Now when I turn up the external Creative speakerset that same sound is distorted.As if there is a kind of metallic rattling going on. I have never had this problem before, but it is very disturbing since it is impossible to produce a well sounding CD. I hope anyone has an idea or solution?Thanks,Gerard

It sounds like you might have an Audigy digital output connected to an analog speaker input. That will sound a lot like (loud, unless you turn the volume down) "white noise" hiss. What are you using for speakers and how exactly do you have all this connected.

IMovie sound fades.

I am trying to fade the sound out gradually. Once I figured out how to do it without having to move the markers by increments (Extremely annoying) but now I can't seem to figure it out again. Can anyone help?

Hi Michael:
To gradually fade the sound you will need to highlight the audio clip by clicking on it then check the "Edit Volume" box at the bottom. A line will show up in the audio track. Use that line to increase to decrease the volume.
That is the only way to fade, as far as I know.

Thank you Ann for answering that fast. Yes. It does look normal when paused and rendered. As soon as it is unrendered, it will go to 50 % size when I play it.
Can I change the settings somewhere for unrendered footage?

You can use the fadeout() method. So you could have a frame
behavior as follows:
on exitFrame
sound(2).fadeOut(2000)
end
'2' represents the sound channel in which it's playing. If
you have the sound in the Score, you need to
make sure it extends beyond the frame from which the fade is
to start. If the sound was activated by
Lingo, you don't need to worry about what's in the Score's
sound channels, just make sure the number you
refer to in the fadeout() statement matches the sound channel
you're playing the sound.
'2000' represents time measured in milliseconds, so 2
seconds.
