X-Fi "What U Hear" and 24

I have X-Fi Xtreme Music, latest drivers, Windows XP SP2. When I save sound through "What U Hear" into WAV-file, all going OK before I try to save stereo WAV-file with 24 bit and 96 KHz. When I save stereo 24 bit 96 KHz file, I receive empty WAV file with straight line, no sound. In any other settings all working perfectly (even in mono 24/96), but I want maximum quality and can't got it Message Edited by Twinsen on 09-2-2006 02:35 PMMessage Edited by Twinsen on 09-2-2006 02:35 PM

What're you using to save the wave file? Mebbe the application doesn't understand 96 kHz wave data?
Does the problem occur if you save to wave at 96 kHz with Mediasource player?

  • What u hear and microphone at the same ti

    Hey,
I am planning on broadcasting some video and audio with my commentary online, but can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
In order to do it'sI need to talk and send out the audio from my computer. But it is impossible since I can't choose "What U hear" and microphone under sound options in vista at the same time.
Anyone knows how to fix it's
    I have a X-fi Xtrememusic.
    Thanks

The new X-Fi cards have both What U Hear and the microphone enabled at the same time. It makes for a good card to stream with if you have a decent mic.
If Mike knew anything he would also know that for streaming you need both What U Hear..and the mic enabled at the same time so you can stream though What U hear and use the mic without switching back and forth.
The older cards do NOT have this feature making it very difficult to stream music while having the microphone function correctly.

  • What You Hear and the X

I cannot stop what I hear from going through my Micon Ventrilo. We use Ventrilo to game with and everything I hear in the game is played through my Mic when I hit my push to talk key.
    Please help

    KeithMac,
Open up the (Surround) Mixer, and set your recording source, the red slider, to <EM>Microphone</EM>. It sounds like it's currently set to <EM>What U Hear.</EM>

  • X-Fi recording trouble, Re: "What U Hear" and MIDI

    Hey there--
I just got a new computer, an HP with Windows 7. I had it come with an X-Fi, because that was what I had in my previous computer (also an HP, but that with Vista). I am 90% sure it's an X-Fi X-Tremegamer, but I cannot recall how to check that.
Anyway, on my old computer, in Audio Creation Mode, there was an option for recording called "What U Hear". I used that to record midi from a Midi transcription program I have. I could hit record in Audio Creation Mode, then play the midi on my midi program, and it would record perfectly as a wave.
On my new computer, while the software all seemed the same at first, I just discovered that the "What U Hear" option is gone. I can only chose from "Line In" and "Digital In".
Is there any way to get "What U Hear" back? And if not, is there any other way I can record Midi on the X-Fi?
    Thanks.

I am having the same issues with my new Dell. I do not see stereo Mix or What you hear. I play alot of music over the web in chatrooms. how do i get the new drivers so i can see what you here?
    Thanks

  • Creative X-Fi recorder from "what you hear" and splitting tra

    Hi,
I used to be able to record minutes of music or sound and be able to split this saved file with the splitting option of Smart Recorder. I now have installed a new sound card X-Fi and want to do the same but cannot find where I need to look. Does this new software for X-Fi offer that or not anymore?
    thanks,
    Luke

I have the software from the CD installed, as I stated earlier, the "What You Hear" option is only missing if you do a CLEAN install of the drivers from the Windows Update. That is?to say if you install the drivers from Microsoft's website with no other X-Fi driver installed on your system.
If you installed the update over a previous version of the drivers, then the "What You Hear" option remains available.
I checked this three times by doing a clean install from the Windows Update and then installing the other driver from Creative?s website.
All three times I deleted the X-Fi driver from my system, then installed the one directly from the Windows Update. I would check my record settings and could not find the "What You Hear" option. I would then install the driver from Creative?s website and checked the settings again and the ?What You Hear? option was available.
If you just installed the Windows Update driver over the one previously on your system without first deleting it, then yes, you should have the "What You Hear" option.
I also could not get the "What You Hear" recording option in any software application that previously had it (ie, Adobe Audition, Sony Sound Forge) until I installed the driver form the Creative website.

  • [WIN7] Enable Microphone and "What U Hear" at the same time?

    Hey folks!
I am trying to enable both at the same time on my Windows 7 in order to record Battlefield 2 and my own voice at the same time.
Please do NOT start with "do this and that", I have tried everything for at least 1 year by now and the only way to make it work is to have microphone and "What U Hear" enabled. Apparently it is not possible. In order to activate one of both you have to make it "Default" record device but then the other device gets disabled. Trying to record the disabled device obviously ends up in silence.
What is the reason for that and how to enable BOTH devices at the same time?
I am using PAX Drivers which the maker always updates to the latest Creative Drivers. So I am up to date.
Thank you a lot in advance.

    Thank you for your reply.
Well, yes, the microphone is activated. And if I put the microphone playback volume to 100 I can hear myself talk even with "What U Hear" as my default recotding device. But once battlefield 2 starts it uses the default recording device for the in-game voice over IP. If I select "what U hear" as the default device it will basically put the game sound into the VOIP...
What I tried was - set microphone as default device, launch BF2 so it registers the microphone as VOIP input, then alt tab out, select What U Hear as default device but it does not get activated! I only see a bar at the microphone.
What I want is to be able to have TWO volume bars, in What U Hear AND Microphone so I can use the microphone for BF2 and What U Hear as gameplay-sound for my recording device.
In Windows XP this was possible. In Windows 7 this is missing.
The problem here is that once a recording device (the Default one usually) is being used by a program it BLOCKS the other recording devices.

  • What u hear problems in vista 32bit

#What u hear problems in vista 32bit2 I just installed the newer variety of the x-fi notebook card with the wireless broadcast function, and for whatever reason installing the drivers failed the first time, I tried a clean install after that, and the microphone is displayed as not available and what u hear isn't present either, so is there a problem in the driver installation or are those features just non existent in the newer software I also noticed that line in works and the microphone input doesn't, gah, windows fixta is irritating,
EDIT: I found out how to get what u hear to work, I kind of felt stupid but all you have to do is right click in the recording device manager and hit show disabled devices and boom what u hear and the microphone input are there, for what reason I don't know why they were disabled in the first place, but hope this helps anyone with the same problem

    +Re: "What U Hear" Missing in Win7G ?
Agreed! I have an X-FI Extreme, upgraded to win 7, installed the latest audio drivers, and have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get my "what u hear" back without any luck at all.
I'll also mention that "disabled devices" are shown in the recording options, so that is not the issue.
I was using vista before with the exact same hardware and "what u hear" was available. The driver version was 5.2..200 dated 4/02/07 ... The current driver for windows-7 is 5.2..208 dated 3/08/2009. Maybe installing an older driver would do the trick? I don't know if that would work as I haven't been able to find the old driver I was using for download (just been bombarded with broken links). I'm also guessing that you'll be held hostage to the latest drivers in windows 7.
Get the latest drivers to lose functionality? Sounds like something apple would pull on you!
If anyone has a solution for this, please let us know, otherwise I'll be rolling all the way back to good old XP again.

  • "What you hear" in Windows Vi

I have an HP Pavilion with Vista installed (and Realtec audio) and just got Soundblaster USB (model SB0490) with the Vista drivers. What I can't get this to do is to be able to hear what I am trying to record. For instance line-in is from my radio, currently on, output is headphones. USB connected, nothing is muted, volume is turned up. It will record off of the radio and play it back which is hearable. Its just I can't hear it when recording - i.e., no simultaneous playback. In any of the configuration screens such as the simple mixer panel etc. there are no buttons to enable/disable "simultaneous playback"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Casey Burns

go to control panel, sound and recording, click on "What U Hear" and choose disable.
if the device disappears and you want to reenable it, click on a blank area in the box and choose "show disabled devices".

  • "What U Hear" Capable/Uncapable Car

?I am curious as to which Sound Blaster Cards allow for the function of the "What U Hear" recording option. The two cards that i've owned with this capability are the:SB Li've! 5.SB Audigy Gamer?I've heard the SB Audigy 2 and 4 have this capability as well. However the SB Audigy cards included in laptops such as the Dell XPS M20 do not have the option for "What U Hear". The External MP3+ didn't have this capability either. Do the PCMCIA cards have this option? Does the Xi-Fi have "What U Hear"? Is Creative slowly getting away from the "What U Hear" with?new and future?products? And i'm wondering if it is just the driver that is restricting these "other" integrated audigy, external cards the ability to use "What U Hear" and whether Creative is able to write drivers for them that will work. Or whether these soundcards just weren't build to support it. Are there also any other brands of SoundCards that support recording what you hear from the speakers? Such as M-Audio's Revolution 7. Or other brands? Thanks,Ryan

A similar feature has been around ever since the SoundBlaster 6 Vibra (oldest I recall, but even the AWE32 could "record itself"), although the on-board mixer was part analog, part digital.
In any case, AC'97 cards usually have a "Wave out mix" or "Stereo out mix" which is the equivalent to "what you hear", and some have a "Mono out mix" as well, although I have no idea who could find that useful.
The mixers on modern cards, even on onboards/codecs operate entirely on digital data, so at least mixing "internal" sources like CD (DAE mode), MIDI an WAVE playback is not subject to analog noise. If you use analog sources too (line in, aux in, mic in etc.) then you must factor in any noise these may carry.
The quality of the digital mixing may also vary: some perform 24-bit or better precision mixing internally, regardless of the output format, while other may handle different sample rates in very different manners (from simple "value hold" to sinc interpolation). In any case, you DO get some form of "what you hear".

  • 0404 USB - Record "What U Hear" / from WAV / AVI etc...

Hi, on any dinky onboard soundcard you can easily internally record the audio from a video file being played back with programs like soundforge.
But apparently, on my $260 EMU 0404, the task is nearly impossible.
I've read that "Patchmix" will do the trick, but the program will not install, citing that "Setup has not found any supported hardware."
Does anyone know how to get around this? Emu told me I have to set my recording destination to "Wave L/R" but there is no Wave L/R available, just Analog A/B and SPDIF.
    Thanks an advanced,
    EDIT:
Is "Patchmix" only for PCI versions of the 0404?

I do not have 'what you hear' as an option any longer with the new Titanium; I had it with my older X-Fi Fatalty, but not this new card.
I would imagine it has something to do with Microsoft trying to limit recording of DRM-protected content, and Creative bowing to their wishes.

  • Microphone and "What U Hear" can't be enabled at the same time.

    Hi,
so this is what I am currently doing: I am streaming li've online game play with the help of Flash Media Li've Encoder. It uses the What U Hear option,? without any problems, so far. Sometimes though I would like to coment on whats currently happening (in the game) with "What U Hear" though enabled, my microphone is disabled and I can not do that. Any voip software then ofc. gives me error messages, that my microphone is not available.
Surely there must be a way to enable the mic and what u hear
    My OS is Win7 x64
and my soundcard is a creative x-fi xtreme music

Try unmuting mic in playback section of mixer

  • How to get WHAT U HEAR option for PCI Express X-Fi Titanium sound card and Windows 7

how to get WHAT U HEAR option for PCI Express X-Fi Titanium sound card and Windows 7 ? Is it on the basic driver? or do you have to install some other software?

You have to install the rest of the software(s) for the sound card. The software is (if it is with the installation CD, though) called "Creative Smart Recorder" or something like that.

  • Windows7 64 bit and Audigy 2 choppy sound while recording what you hear

Driver version I have currently installed 6.0..37 I tried to record off youtube in "What You hear" while using Wavelab5 mode and the sound is very choppy, I tried every setting I could think of but am unable to record, I managed to get one recording but tnext one with same settings is coming up rearry choppy. Another problem when browsing the support I click on "If your product is not listed above, please click here" I choose Audigy-->Audigy2 but I get nothing in the next window, I tried on FF and IE8 but nothing populates in the next field, found another way to get to the drivers but when I choose Windows 7 64 bit and choose drivers it takes me to the main support page here <a rel="nofollow" href="http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx"]http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx[/url]

Right where do I start...... I got the latest drivers installed, "What You Hear" was working for about oh four recordings then stopped and back to choppy recorded sound, I went through alll options and nada. So I downloaded Audacity to see if this was a problem with Wavelab and re-tried. Well same thing choppy sound and even rebooting did not help. So I will be taking EVERYTHING!!!!!! CREATIVE off my machine, if these idiots cannot be bothered to release drivers that work then I'm going elsewhere. My music creating will have to be put on hold, my 22m will still have to sit in it's box.
Creative you are all a bunch of ?$"?%$%" idiots period. You have ALWAYS (till now in my case anyway) had good drivers. Even though Windows 7 has been in RC for ages you (absolutely missed that boat, hell you didn't even get up to try to catch it) cannot be bothered to write drivers that work and your idiotic half cooked attempts at customer service to give your bread and butter (that's right your customers who keep you in business) solid drivers are an absolute joke. YOU CAN KISS MY SHINY METAL HINEY!!!!! (thanks Bender lol). I am going to my onboard drivers. Thanks Creative (the name "creative" is kind of contradiction in itself, you should look up the meaning of the word lol). Oh and I will be advising EVERYONe who thinks of upgrading to Windows7 to avoid Creative hardware.

It was possible in Windows XP but due to windows 7 own audio mixer this does not work anymore.
