X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook -no surround sound

All of sudden my surround sound is gone! Maybe it's due to some recent updates from microsoft, but system restore won't help.
Anyway I got Inspiron E705, genuine vista 32, pcie sound card with 5./7. adapter. When I go to control panel - sound - configure, my configuration is 5. and it checks out just fine after hitting the test button. (sound appears in each speaker) However, when I want to play mp3s or movies on vista, the sound goes only through two (left and right) front speakers. Any ideas on how to fix it's
PS. sound driver - up to date (from their website 7/4/2007)

That is perfectly normal functioning for music playback unless you select CMSS Surround mode. Set the slider for 50% (middle) and you will get sound out all speakers. For monophonic sounds or music, you will get almost no sound at all out the front left and right, most sound out the center, and a bit of sound out the rear surrounds for spatial effect. This is at least how my Extreme Gamer card works.

  • SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook connections to speake

Was wondering if anyone out there could tell me something? i have the creative S750 Gigaworks 7. surround sound speakers. i have just purchased the X-Fi Xtreme audio notebook card with the surround sound connection piece. on my sub there are four ports: Green, orange, white and black. Now on the other end of that very same cable there are only three, the typical Black, Green and Orange that i have used on my desktop for my 7. surround sound needs. My question is, where do i get this cable with both ends having all four colors to connect into my external speakers dock? if anyone can help me on this I would be greatly appreciati've. Thanks.........

There is a very good reason why it tells you your card isn't supported, that's because it isn't,?This download?is an?application for Creative Sound Blaster? X-Fi? series of audio devices. It restores 3D audio and EAX? effects for certain DirectSound?3D games in Microsoft? Windows Vista?. For more details, read the rest of this web release note.
This download supports the following audio devices only:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi?XtremeGamer Fatalty?Pro<
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatalty<
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series<

    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic<
?Alchemy was written to translate DirectSound3D software calls to OpenAL hardware calls, and unfortunately the Xtreme Audio doesn't have the hardware, the EMU20K2?(all that card basically is is a renamed SB Li've 24 bit/Audigy SE, neither of which have the hardware either).

  • Xtreme Audio Notebook - Toshiba Laptop

&Xtreme Audio Notebook - Toshiba Laptop? Here is my request for help :-)
I am running Vista Home sp2
I am using this CL sound card for some minor audio for band functions (where my midi keyboard doesnt cut it).
In Sonar - the software will NOT see this device as an ASIO device. If I run Asio4all, it will but thats very limited.
This whole process started by me trying to get less latency out of the laptop for a midi function and within Sonar - its only recognizing the device as an MME device. While that is "ok" its far from optimal, and if I put any kind of a load on it the latency grows to the absurd side.
My first question - am I mistaken or is this device supposed to suport ASIO mode?
Next - if it is - how can I find out why its not working as expected? I am not looking for folks to do the work for me, just hoping someone may have seen this in the past and had any suggestions
I have used the latest drivers I could find from the CL support site to replace the default windows vista drivers, and I have tweaked all the settings I can find, but still having some large latency issues and using MME is certainly not helping.
Any thoughts or pointss are certainly appreciated!

Please disregard and close/archi've this thread.
I missed the part about the Xtreme Audio Notebook NOT having asio drivers.
I purchased a new X-Fi surround and while I am having some smaller issues, I am certainly seeing a marked improvement.

  • Help! My new X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook wont play in 5

Hey! Just bought Logitech Z-5500 and X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook but I've been wondering why the heck I can't choice 5. Only 2./2.0 and headphones? I've also noticed that my read speakers isn't playing so much as the front in most of the songs I hear? Is it because I need that upgrade kit for analog cables? But what If i buy that upgrade kit, and I still use optical cable, do I need to use the analog surround cables to get 5. on optical? Or what?

Hi there Wulffez? In answer to your second question, all surround sound speakers play more in the front than the back speakers as the front speakers are for the main sound and the back speakers are just for background noise and to make you feel like the music/ sound is all around you. If it helps my speakers do this too and i imagine everyone elses surround sound speakers do it as well?(Also you will probably need digital surround cables, but i am not 00% certain)?Hope this helpssupernerd59

  • SB Xtreme Audio Notebook optical out problem with Home TheaterSystem-HELP!

JSB Xtreme Audio Notebook optical out problem with Home TheaterSystem-HELP!, I have this sound card connected?(optical OUT) ?to my home?theater system's digital IN ?through the recommended /8in. optical miniplug-to-optical SPDIF cable. Theater system is set correctly to Digital-In mode. I have no sound!
The cable is a Velocity Toslink-to-Optical Mini Plug digital cable. I don't see any settings in the Creative Console Launcher. The notebook is a Dell XPS M730 (Vista 32).
I have a PS3, DirecTV, and the SB Xtreme Audio Notebook cable on a hub switch that connects to the system's?one Optical IN. The PS3 and DirecTV sound perfect!
The sound card works fine with standard PC speakers. I'm at a loss as?to what to try next. I set this whole system up myself, so I'm pretty good at working out the kinks, except this one!
    Karen

OK. I just went to Control Panel - Sound - Playback - Digital Output Device (SB Xtreme Audio Notebook) - Properties - Advanced. I experimented with different sample rates and bit depths. Clicked the test button and lo and behold - sound from the HTS! I've tried iTunes, PowerDVD (configured to digital output) and YouTube - no sound! Am I missing something really obvious?
HA! Just backed out to Playback and selected Digital Output Device (SPDIF) and set as Default. Sound is emunating from HTS! Well, that mystery is solved! Who knew.
Thanks anyway! Any comments or advice will still be appreciated.

  • Problems with the X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook external card..

I recently updated my drivers for this card on my laptop to find out that updating my drivers meant causing my card to stop working. Before I decided to update through vista (probably a bad idea, but I really was hoping to get my new headset to work with Ventrilo and this seemed like the only route left after working on it for hours), the card was working fine. Music sounded amazing, etc etc. However, upon completion of the downlaod and restarting of my computer, the audio driver just stopped working completely.
At this point, this is what is going on: <img><span class="Apple-style-span"]http://img75.imageshack.us/my.php?image=helpmeyk3.jpg</img> .
I've gone to my devices through the control panel and attempted to revert to my old drivers, yet that doesn't work either. Nothing that I do seems to help, so I've just given up until I get someone who actually knows what they are doing. Here's my specs:
    Dell XPS M530 laptop
    Vista ?32-bit
    4gig RAM
    <span class="Apple-style-span">X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook
The headset in question is the Creative Fatality 3.5mm jack.
If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.

  • XFi Xtreme Audio Notebook--Onboard MI

I have the X-Fi Pro Elite on my desktop PC and am satisfied with the onboard MIDI it provides. I am looking at buying the X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook for use when I'm traveling but still working on MIDI files--can I expect the same or similar quality of onboard MIDI?

I wasn't confusing anything. To quote the page you linked to and to back up what I said:
    "X-Fi Xtreme Audio
The entry-level model of the X-Fi series, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, does not actually have the EMU20K chip but is a re-branded Audigy SE, using the same family of chips (CA006-WBTLF), and even the same drivers[2]. Thus, not only is all of the X-Fi?related processing performed in software, but it also lacks basic hardware acceleration just the like SB Li've! 24 bit, the Audigy SE and other budget Soundblaster models. The X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not use the same drivers as the rest of the X-Fi family, some games do not recognize it as being "X-Fi capable hardware", and the device's hardware profile resembles that of older Li've! and Audigy cards. Furthermore, users have reported that it slows down some applications and games [][2][3]. Thus, even if the card is marketed as part of the X-Fi line, it does not belong to it technically, just like the Audigy SE doesn't technically belong to the Sound Blaster Audigy series. The card is not marketed as supporting the "X-Fi Gaming Mode" (but is still marketed as "X-Fi"), and there are no official implicit or explicit statements regarding its having hardware acceleration or not."

  • Best Official way to install drivers on Win7 with Xtrem Audio Notebook (Gray)

MBest Official way to install drivers on Win7 with Xtrem Audio Notebook (Gray)? Hi Guys and Creative Gurus,
I have a lot of configuration problem with my Windows 7 configuration and my Xtreme Audio Notebook expresscard (gray one). Mostly due to Creative Drivers installation order. For example, right now the Software Update don't detect my card, even if all seems to work nearly fine (popping and crashing on small sound like directory navigation on Win 7).
So I'm asking: What is the best and official way to install those drivers, including the Console Launcher, on Win 7 ?
Do I have to, from a clean Windows 7, to plug my card, wait for Win 7 to detect and donwload drivers, and instal after that my original XP CD drivers coming with the card to have the Console Launcher?
Or: Do I have, from a clean Win 7 configuration, to remove my internet connection to avoid Win 7 to find a drivers, to install first my XP CD comming from Creative (to have the Console Launcher), and after that to install official Win 7 drivers from Creative web site ?
Or, do I have, from a clean Win 7 configuration without any internet connection, to first install official Creative Win 7 drivers for my card, and after that to install "something" from "somewhere"? to get the last Console Laucher application?
Or does Creative made a great full package for my card "a la" Daniel_K for Win 7 I just have to install?
I'm asking because for my XtremGamers I use Daniel_K Drivers and this guys just made it simple and working!
Unfortunatly I don't think he have a package for my Xtreme Audio ExpressCard notebook. Anyway, I still apreciate his work !
And additionnaly: Does Win 7 recquire use of OpenAL (like vista)?
That sound some stupids question but guess what, I didn't find those simples information in the whole Creative web site or forum!
    Thanks for your lights guys!

  • Audio through my surround sound

I have Apple TV hooked up via HDMI to my TV.  I'd like the audio to come through my reciever to provide surround sound.  I bought the optical digital audio cable ar Best Buy and plugged it into the eciever and selected the proper input, but no audio throught the surround sound.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Do you have the TV switched on.
Are you sure you have the receiver set to the correct input.
Have you tried adjusting the Dolby Digital and Audio Out settings.

  • Optical Output surround problem with SB X'FI Xtreme Audio Notebook (Gray one)

    Dear All and Creative Gurus,
I search through the forum and read all sticky thread and didn't find an answer, so I need to post here:
I just bought this ExpressCard sound card for my laptop, and nearly all work fine. I know pretty well Creative tools and settings for years as I already have an XtremeGamer PCI card for my desktop PC.
I meet an Optical Output issue with this new Notebook card:
When I use any software to play DTS or Dolby Digital signal from video or music (E.g. a DVD with PowerDVD or VLC), the Optical Output only send "basic" st?r?o, and my amplifier can't detect any surround. Surround is OK when I use the little dock with the 7. analog output.
As a comparison, with the other computer, and the X'FI XtremeGamer sound card, and using same settings, same sources and same software (VLC or PowerDVD set to spdif output) the Optical Output send surround sound, and my amplifier detect Dolby or DTS source.
So I hope it's just a drivers (updated I think) or settings problem, and I hope this optical output is not made only for st?r?o sound!
Let me know your feelings here Guys, thanks! And keep the good work
    Best regards,
    Loran_69
Edit few minuts after : All work fine if I use the "Creative MediaSource 5 Player" !
The optical Output send surround and my amplifier well detect the Dolby or DTS source!
So what's going on with other software like VLC or PowerDVD, with the same settings than my desktop computer (spdif enabled)?

Seeing as the desktop version of the Xtreme Audio doesn't support Game Mode or even have the X-Fi chip on it (card is basically nothing more than a renamed SB Li've 24 bit/Audigy SE), I don't see how the notebook version can be any different. That and from looking at the specs for it I don't see anywhere that it even mentions anything about Game Mode, never mind EAX.

  • PCI Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Get No Digital Sound Out to my Surround Reciev

I have read almost everything but CANT FIGURE THIS OUT, PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE :-)
My PCI Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio is conected to my Sony DTS/DD Reci'ver using a Mini Jack to Toslink cabel connected in the blue Digital Out minijack on the sound card and to my Optical?Toslink input on my reciever.
I have enabled SPDIF out / Digital Output Only
I have tried whit and whitout the Bit-Matched
I have treied the different sampling rates 44, - 96 KHz
I have tried playing from MS Media Player and DivX player. (dvd, mp3, radio li've, nett tv)
    Im using Vistax32
I believe i have the correct settings and the correct cabel, but cant get no digital sound out, whats wrong?
First I tought I neede the Digital I/O module from Creativ, but I have read that this is?NOT necessary.
PLEASE ANY THING THAT CAN HELP ME SOLVE THIS WOULD MAKE ME REALLY HAPPY :-)

YOU DONT NEED THE I/O accesory, or rather it is not essential. (unless your reciever only has digital optical(toslink) in?My experiment worked! alss ya need to connect from the sound cards digital out to your recievers coax digital audio?in is: "mono" mini (/8 inch) male to rca style male coax cable. you may have to choose digital only and somy other tricks from a given creative software(?they vary)?and or select the correct input for a given reciever....my Harman Kardon avr 00?and avr 300 series?are particularly tricky. Got pandora one up and running. Devo sounds good!
    Movies tonight via Netflix streaming.....YAY!

  • Connecting audio channels with surround sound speakers

I have an art project coming up and I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have made a film with a separate .aif sound recording to go along with it. I want the sound to play from different speakers at different points, I have a surround sound system I was hoping to use and thought it might be possible to cut the sound files and somehow place them in different audio channels to link with different speakers. Would this work or is there another way to get the same effect?

I've not personally done it yet, but the theory is sound.  I'd expect it to work just fine.
In any event, you'll know for sure once you try.

  • Audio Out to Surround Sound

Does anyone know of a cable that can convert the audio out on a MacBook Pro to 5.1 surround sound? I have a Logitech G51 speaker system and would like to use it with my computer.

Ok, based on what i know you are not able to purchase any one cord to deliver 5.1 surround sound. What you can do though and rather inexpensively for a entry level ($30-$60 on Amazon) is purchase a USB external sound card. Once you download the drivers for the usb device you can connect the logitec speakers to the sound card and enjoy the 5.1 channel surround sound. Hope this helps!

  • ( Digital Audio ) 5.1 surround sound via receiver. Possible?

Is it possible to achieve 5.1 surround sound through an audio receiver using a Coaxial cable? (For Gaming, in particular)
In theory, the coaxial cable should plug into the "Digital Audio out" PC port (Realtex Sound card), and the other end plug into the "Coaxial/Digital Audio in" port of the reciever, which would then produce 5.1 surround sound.
The reason I ask is, after doing much research, it appears that it's a common problem that the method described above is only achieving stereo sound.
    My components are...
    Realtek sound card (Digital Audio)
    Harman/Kardon receiver AVR 247
    Coaxial Cable
    Any help would be appreciated.

If your PC has an S/PDIF connector, an orange RCA-style connector, then you can connect it to a home stereo. You'll need a cable like this one...
The mystery is in Vista/Reatek settings. To get digital X.1 out, you need to go into Vista Sound Properties, select the default device icon for digital out, go into Properties, and then look at the selections that are available from the Supported Formats tab and the Advanced tab. Make selections for 5.1 and formats that are compatible with your receiver.
If you already have the home stereo and a PC with an S/PDIF port, all you need is the cable. Try it out and have fun. Let us know.
btw... if you have XP, then all this is done through the Realtek software - not through XP.
