[X-Fi Xtreme Gamer] Makes strange noises - then nothing. Beta Driver won't go away... *he

Hi Folks
I got some Problems with my xtreme Gamer:
When I started my PC yesterday everything was fine, but after a while the sound produced some strange failures? ending in just making a horrible high noise.
I tried kinda everything I could think of (Restart, install new Beta Driver (October 7th) but nothing helped either the sound constantly was this Noise or nothing. I couldn't even see that something is playing in the Vista Sound menu. After installing the beta driver I could at least SEE that something should be playing (but only in general, not app-related) but nothing comes out my speakers.
So I tried to went back to try the latest official release (2.8) I had 2.6 before. But the Setup always tell me that I have a never Driver installed and just let me confirm some EULAs and want me to restart without installing anything. After the restart the same...
I tried to remove any Creti've Data from my system: uninstall the device in the Hardware-manager, uninstall the driver software, delete all files that could be related ti creative on any HDD and the registry, used CClenaer and Driver Cleaner Pro...
but it still tells me that i have a newer driver in stalled... (in the Hardware-Manager I got the yellow sign)
So my questions are:
st. How do i swap this Driver off my system?
2nd. How do I get my sound working again?
My system: Vista x6, X-Fi Xtreme gamer (connected with cinch to my reciever wich works fine )

  • E mac makes strange noises then only starts after 10 tries... help please

    Hi all...
I have an emac, purchased in 2003, running os x 10.4.6
i am having trouble turning it on and it is just getting worse.. i know little about computers so any help would be greatly appreciated
when i press the power on button it does a number of things including the light flashing sometimes, it makes strange beeping noises etc.. it changes each time i try to turn it on... whilst making these noises you can hear the fan etc turn on but the screen stays totally blank (off).no display at all. I'm sure this is not good for my computer but the only thing i can then do (i think) is to pull it out at the power point and try and turn it on again. After doing this about 10 times the computer normally turns on....
any help would be greatly appreciated! i've done a whole erase and reinstall of os x and it made no difference
    thanks!

    pamism,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Odd beeps and the power light flashing suggest some form of RAM or logic board problem; see Power On Self-Test Beep Definition to determine which applies. Has the Mac been subjected to any recent power surges that might have damaged the RAM or logic board? If the beeps/flashes indicate a problem with the RAM, it may be worthwhile to pull the RAM DIMMs and reseat them firmly in the sockets (as described in eMac - Do-It-Yourself). Applying a small amount of contact cleaner (try any local electronics shop) would be helpful as well.

  • Powerbook chimes when turned on, makes some noise, then nothing

So I went to turn on my powerbook and it made the chime noise, I could hear it start to boot up, and then nothing. The screen is blank, and it does not make any noise. However, it is still on, because I have to hold the power button down to shut it off. I really need my computer for school, so any input is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Melissa

    I have the same problem.
I clicked on Firefox to get it started, moved the attached mouse across the screen to click on an icon, and the screen froze. Tried rebooting using standard options but what would happen was:
    the Mac would chime.
I could hear the drive start.
Lights to hubs turn on but not enough juice to turn the light on for the optical mouse.
The keyboard will shut the Mac down.
I have been a Mac user since May, 1984 (still have my 128k)and very seldom have had assistance with problems because I try every option approved.
If I slightly depress the PMU reset button, everything starts up just fine. Can restart. Can switch drives (two external FireWire drives) and full boot will occur.
If I shut down, then restart... back to the chime and nothing else works. t did go into target mode a couple of times - the only "live" action on the keyboard other than the shutdown by the power button.
Someone suggested the PRAM battery (as he called it, the "buffer" battery). After boot, if I don't depress the button all the way, the correct time shows. If I depress it past the "click" point, it will reset to December 1969.
Any help would be appreciated and might solve both issues in this thread.
    thanks,
    lloyd

  • My MacBook Pro makes strange noises when I open iPhoto and when I close it.

My MacBook Pro makes strange noises when I close my laptop and when I open iPhoto.  iPhoto then proceeds to close when the noise stops.  Is there any cure for this? Please help.

What kind of noise? Any other app make noise?

  • MacBook Pro makes strange noises

My MacBook Pro recently started to make strange noises like an elecyticity cable was sparkling. Today I closed the screen to move it and started to make a greater sound like an old ventilator when I opened back then it went into sleeping, can somebody tell me what is happening?
    Thanks

I think I had the same problem as you on a 13" MBP. After the grinding noise, did your laptop suddenly make a really fast whooshing sound? If that's what you're experiencing, there might be a broken ball bearing in your fan. In that case, you have to take it to an Apple Store and get that replaced.

  • Geforce 5900 makes strange noises!

I've just bought MSI GeForce 5900 and installed it in my computer (MSI KT3 Ultra2 main board).
The graphic card seems to be working okay, when it comes to performance and stuff like that, but the card is making some strange noises. The problem occurs when I'm scrolling the window of Internet Explorer by using my mouse or keyboard up/down buttons. Then I hear these (hard to describe) "scratchy" sounds coming from my card   !
What can be the cause of this?
I've searched the internet for some answers, and I actually found couple of people having the same/similar problem with their 5900 / 5900 Ultra cards (different manifacturers), and they don't have any clue how to solve this.
Did anyone here experience the similar problem, and most important - do you know the cure?
This is just great. I wasn't satisfied with Radeon 9600XT because of its crappy drivers, and now that I returned it and got myself this nVidia card, I got these problems instead. I sure hope I'll not be forced to return this one as well. Please help, or I'm gonna get crazy soon.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, I've found several people with the same problem, so I don't think something is "wrong" with my card in particular. I've partially managed to disable these sounds (disabling "Smooth scrolling" in IE), which, by the way, are not THAT annoying, and I'm gonna do some couple more tricks until I finally decide whether I'm going to keep the card or not.
If I decide to NOT to keep it, I'll probably swap it for a FX 5700 Ultra.
I'm sorry, but the FX 5600 (ultra?) that you are suggesting, simply has no horse power enough to handle the tasks that I'm exlusively need a graphic card for - GAMING.

  • IPod frozen - cannot restart - makes strange noises whilst trying to charge

    my iPod is dying!
the iPod froze while i was listening to my tracks and i tried to restart it (as i've done it before) and nothing happened. Then i noticed the icon that indicates that the battery is totally drained and i have to charge the ipod at least for 30mins before iTunes will recognize it again.
Ive charged it now much longer then 30mins, that icon has disappeared as soon as i connected the ipod to my charger and there is the black screen with the white apple, the ipod did get warm, still makes strange sounds as if it restarts or something and the screen goes grey and empty back to black screen with white apple. it wont stop doing it.
What is wrong with it???? Cant use public transport anymore without my ipod pls help, am desperate!
Dell Inspiron 630m   Windows XP   iPod 30GB

thanks - tried but unfortunately didn't help. At the moment, when i try to charge it i get the battery sign for a little while, then the ipod restarts again. over and over again. iTunes still won't recognize my iPod.
I've called technical support ("Hello, how's your iPod today? - well, what ya think when i call you guys???) and will go to the iPod store tomorrow in case they might be able to restore my iPod and recover the tracks that Ive got on it...fingers crossed.

  • Satellite A350 - Microphone make strange noise

When talking to people on Skype and MSN people say that my microphone makes this strange noise. They can vaguely hear me over the noise. People say it is kind of like a gurgling noise.
At first I thought it would be a driver issue so using Device manager in windows I searched online for an update for my Realtek High Definition Audio and it told me the version was up to date.
I went from Vista to Windows 7 about 5-6 months ago, Maybe a problem occurred when i reinstalled my drivers? Any advice would be appreciated!
    Computer specifications:
    -Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
    -Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 2.13GHz
    4.00GB RAM (2.99 Usable)
    Thanks in advance

Have you noticed this using original Vista OS you got with your notebook?
To be clear: Skype or MSN is not relevant for mic testing. I use Skype daily with my A300 and some people hear me good and some of them have reported that sound is pretty bad.
Can you please make a small test and record your voice on Win7?
Go to the "Start" menu. Under "Programs," select "Accessories." Click "Sound Recorder."
Check quality with internal and external mic if you use headphones.

  • Disc drive makes strange noises

I just got my macbook and from the very start whenever I insert a disc it makes a noise like its popping and breaking internally. the disc will play fine, but the sound is SO wrong that its worrying me. Has anyone else had this problem? Was it just something wrong with the disc drive?

I think what your hearing is the drive sorting itself out, mine makes quite a racket when you first put a disc in but its fine, i think it is standard across the range. To make sure it would be worth comparing to a friends or listen to one in a shop.
    Cheers.

  • IBook makes startup chime, then nothing

iBook charges battery. 700mhz/256mb/20 combo with additional RAM
I have reset PRAM, NVRAM and PMU
I press the power button, I hear hard drive start, start chime, then nothing. Something is still spinning in there...so I hold the power button down, it powers down and then the same thing happens when I try to power it up again.
I have re-seated RAM and tried booting w/o the additional RAM.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Safe Mode? If not, I suggest that you give it a try. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.
Can I boot from a CD or something...?
Which version of the OS is installed? Do you have an install disc for that version of the OS? You could try booting from that if you have the proper install disc.

  • Strange audio on freeze frames that won't go away?

So i create freeze frames, then when i play the 4-sec frame it makes a strange noise like a tape rewinding and this noise doesn't go away if i record a voiceover.
I can't mute it either because according to my macbook there is no noise.
And the sound jumps, so 4 seconds of audio is taken out from the following clip and the audio for the all the clips is moved by 4 seconds.
Any help would be so welcome, thanks.

Oh and i got a photo from iPhoto, added it to the end of the project library and miraculously the noise had gone, i then added a voice over.
But then when i moved it to a different place (inbetween 2 clips) the noise came back.

  • Ipod makes strange noises?

So out of the blue today, my ipod stopped working and it froze. I didn't drop it or anything, I just heard this little clicking noise coming from it. It sounds as if you were to wind a tape, stop, wind it up again, and this goes on maybe 15-20 times. Then it stops and it flashes the folder and the support website address. I tried to look at the support page and all it says is to do the 5 R's, which I've done. The little whirring noise continues.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Laptop Fan makes strange noise

Hi everyone,i have a toshiba dv7,my laptop's fan stoped working so i took it for repair, they charge me for almost 70 euros and they said they changed tha fan. After a few days the fan started making noises and after a few days it stopped working again,so i opened the laptop myself and the fan was clean, the wings didn't touched anywhere so i finger pushed the fan then it worked ok so i closed the laptop and started using it,after 2 days the strange scratching sound is back again, any ideas why it does that??
    Thank you

I'm no expert but (a)I don't believe the first guys changed the fan &
(b)I think your fan is on the way out - you can find cheap replacement
fans on ebay - unless your laptop is under warranty, then forget everything
I wrote and chase them to fix it.

  • Satellite P750 makes strange noise every so often when playing music etc.

I like playing alot of music on my laptop, but lately this stranges keeps randomly occuring. It almosts sounds like the track has frozen up, but it hasn't because it keeps playing(like a scratched disc in a cd player freezing??).
Its just every now and then, but it is very noticeable especially when played through my good external speakes. It occurs through the inbuilt speakers, standard headphones and external speakers.
Just wondering if any has any ideas what it is and how i can fix it because it is really annoying me.
    Thanks

This problem is about DPC latency, which affects audio/video streaming.
DPC's are to do with badly behaved *drivers* and so will not show up in the process list, so there is no point to suggest checking that and the CPU useage in taskmanager is too general and does not cover drivers.
It is not overall CPU stress either, as the drivers are often waiting for an event to happen, they are just delaying other drivers, that's all. DPC's are happening much more often than the blip you see on the CPU %.
DPC Latency Checker is a good tool to see generally if you have a problem, but now you need to run Latency Mon to find out which drivers are causing the problem:
    http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon
Then disable the drivers in device manager until you need them. Simples.
It is probably your LAN and/or WI-FI drivers that are causing this problem.
Btw, this is a windows problem not a hardware problem and every system can suffer from it to some degree. When it becomes very noticeable that's when people want to do something about it.
