X-fi Xtreme Music soundcard PROBLEM: Microphone volume too low(unusab

Hello, I've spent a while?sifting through these forums and?can't find any solution to this problem. Many people have been asking this same question and?aren't getting any solutions. When I say the microphone is?too low, I mean it's at the lowest possible volume it could?run at,?so it's unusable and?might as well not be functioning at all. Keep in mind every volume setting on the computer has been set to max.
Is their anyone?that?owns a X-fi xtreme music sound card?using a?microphone that does work?If so, what microphone are you using?I'm only?suggesting that theirs some odd settings with this card that only allow a certain kind of microphone to work with it. I'm using an old mic that works perfectly with my sb li've and that I've had for 3 years now. I'll echo the same basic details I've already checked over. They can be found in other customers' posts who are having this?same problem.) Microphone works - tested on other systems and other cards2) Microphone volume is on max - both in recording and playback (although playback is muted)3) Gain is enabled - Ticked +20dB box4) Drivers are current - tried shipped drivers, current stable, and beta release? Here are more links to this problem, which has not been solved yet:

I?suspect no one?has?the answer to this problem?yet. But could someone please tell me if they are using this soundcard with a mic that is working. If so please tell me what microphone you are using.

I don't know if this is the latest thread but it seems to be. Obviously this is a big prob for a lot of pee
ps.
I have Just built a new machine and included a X-Fi Extreme audio for the 8 channel sound capabilities for movie viewing etc, but .. I also run Teamspeak servers for several games ( WoW , UT , CS etc) and find myself unable to communicate using said card. problem is mic boost is available in playback mode but not in record mode. If you activate mic boost in playback it does actually increase volume in output mode also (don't ask me why) ...but not by much . Not enough for peeps on the other end to hear you while gaming. So... if you can boost mic on playback , why not on record ? which is where it is suposed to be in the first place. there are a LOT of frustrated gamers out there that have paid good money for the surround experience but are unable to do what previous cards have done well .... and that is allow communication between players . please don't ignore this as this is not an operating system problem.... i have installed this card on Vista and XP (both X64 and 32)? and still no mic boost from the software available. you know the problem .. at least acknowledge it and give an update. thank you?Fly

  • Audigy 2 ZS - Microphone volume too low (using front case pan

    Hi,
I've searched the forums for my particular problem and was unable to find a solution
I'm hoping someone here can guide me.
My microphone volume is extremely low whenever i plug it into the front jack of my case. Now if i were to plug it in directly at the back on the soundcard the volume is just fine.
I've checked my settings in the control panel, my mic is selected, the +20db boost is on. I've re-checked those settings both times ( while plugged in the back and in the front panel )
For the life of me, i cant figure out why the input volume just drops when i plug it in the front.
    Any one have any ideas?
*note: i've checked settings in creative surround mixer and they are proper, the mic is selected and boost is enabled. I read somewhere about a line2/mic2 ? i do not see this option anywhere (in surround mixer or control panel sound options)
    Any help is appreciated

im sorry that i cant help you, but how have you connected your case mic/headphone jacks? i thought this is barely possible on creative cards.. or do you have that creative bay-thing?

  • Portege R500 audio problem: sound volume too low

The sound volume on my R500 is ridiculously low. Only with volume maxed out (100) and using headphones do I hear anything at all, and even then it's way too low to be useful. I can just make out the test sounds in the left and then right earphone when using the test sound found at Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (there are no Headphones to be selected) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Test. Unplugging the headphones I hear nothing from the speakers, due to the (very low) sounds made by the fan and HDD. Playing music (with headphones) I can just make out that sounds are being produced, but I can't even make out what is playing.
I've tested the things mentioned in the "Satellite 5105-S901 Sound is very low (even on max volume) using supplied Toshiba driver" thread with no success (including Loudness Equalization).
I'm running Vista Business 32bit, and have tried the driver_audio_realtek26117B.exe, driver_audio_realtek_TC00157600B.exe, and Vista_Win7_R243_x86.exe driver files, and also used the  util_mute_off_25847B.exe utility.
Enabling mute makes the already faint sounds go completely silent, so I don't think it's a mute issue.
Jack detection does work, I can see that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager program. Using that program's sound test (Speaker Configuration) I have to go to a completely silent room, and even then I only hear something in the right earphone. (I think; it's so darn low I could be imagining I hear it.)
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next? I can boot to XP or Linux if anyone has any ideas on how to get sound there, just to get started. (They're silent as well, I haven't done as extensive testing under those as under Vista.)

    Update:
Tried increasing the volume in control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager. No success.
I have used a bunch of different drivers, both from toshiba's website and realtek's.
Recently did a fresh XP install on another hard drive (don't have Vista install media), tried both 5.10.0.5869 and 5.10.0.6066 drivers (5.10.0.6066 is from march 13, 2010), sound still as low no matter what I do.
Did the really desperate thing: bought a new (used) sound module on ebay ("Toshiba Portege R500 (PPR50E-00L048EN) USB jack" on ebay.co.uk), but it has the same problem as the original one.
I was thinking perhaps the sound module doesn't get enough power from the motherboard, but since there is some sound (although very low), the USB jack on the module works, the headphone/mic jack detection works, and the diagnostics found in the Control Panel all say that the device is working OK, I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I'm guessing there is a problem with the drivers initializing the sound to a ridiculously low setting, and increasing the volume level to 100 makes it go up to a level equal to perhaps 2 in a regular system. That should be solved by a fresh install, but it isn't.
Perhaps the BIOS messes up the sound? But re-flashing the BIOS doesn't help...
    Anyone got any other ideas?
I've googled and found people having problems with low sound volume on other laptops using the ALC262 chip, but no general solution.

  • GT70 Microphone Volume too low

I am experiencing low microphone volume even when "Level" is set to 100% and boost set max (30). I have tried lots of suggestions from the web but no luck so far. When I remove the RealTek HD Audio Manager drivers, it gets a little better but still not loud enough for the other party to hear me well. Any help would be appreciated.

This may or may not work, but it did for my CR600.
Download the Realtek Semiconductor Corp. High Definition Audio System Software Ver: R2.19.
After installing this driver perform a Driver update and let windows download the newest driver.  This now works setting microphone to 100% and boost to 20%.  Also when a microphone is plugged in it pops up a new Information screen on the task system icon screen in lower right ReakTek HD Audio Manager.

  • Microphone volume too quiet only with skype

My microphone volume is extremely quiet during calls. This is not a problem with my headset since it works perfectly fine with any other communication or recording software. I have my microphone volume and boost set to max in the recording setting and I unchecked the automatically adjust microphone option in skype's audio settings. I've also tried re-installing my sound card driver but that did not solve the problem as well. I think my microphone stopped working with skype after version 7.0. I used to just simply use a much older version of skype (version 6.5) until recently Skype decides to retire all the older versions. So now I am stuck with a skype that no longer works. An interesting thing to note is that if I uncheck "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the microphone properties setting and then restart skype, my mic will be at normal volume for about a minute, then it will be extremely low again. If I restart skype again, the mic will work perfectly fine for a minute again. (I am not entirely sure why and I am not sure it works in a real call becuase I only tested this with the ecco/sound test service). Please Help!

Someone has posted this http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Help-Windows-10-Microphone-not-working/m-p/4076999#M361092 Please let us know if this fixed the microphone for you

  • Macbook Air Microphone Volume Very Low

I've had a few Facetime, Google+ Hangout, and Skype sessions with verious people and a common complaint is that the mic volume on my 2011 Macbook Air 13 is very low despite the gain being turned all the way up.  I found a thread where other people are experiencing this same issue.  I was hoping to get some feedback from others to see how common this issue is.  It would be interesting to see if it is in fact an issue with all Macbook Air's and could possibly be a driver or design issue.
    Other Thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1204830

Same issue (very low microphone volume) with my new 2011 Macbook Air 13".  I bought it the first day they were available from Apple Store, but just tried FaceTime today.  Volume not acceptable.
Looked at system preferences and slid slider all way to max... still not enough volume.  I had to put my head to the side within a few inches of microphone before the sound sort of was loud enough. Tried ambient off/on and worse when had it off.
Just tested the sound with my niece's boyfriend new 11" model (he got about 1 week ago). Input volume on his unit is ideal.  Sounds great.  So not likely an Lion issue... likely something with my unit (and others based on this post and others).
I have yet to find any solution on the forum or support area, so will call Apple tomorrow or visit store to see if they can resolve the problem.

  • E5-00 Music volume too low

Hello, the music volume in maximum volume while using earphones is too low in my E5-00 compared to Nokia Xpressmusic 5310. Is it normal for E5 or is there anything I can do to make the music volume loud.

the E5 is not a music device so the volume wont be as loud as other music devices, however ive found it very good when using 3rd party headphones(SONY) and not the ones supplied with the device, also check the volume toggle when in use as its set to default.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Volume too low on ringer and with hands-free headsets

Both the ringer's volume and the volume within headsets are too low in my new Droid X. When holding it to my ear while talking it is loud enough well below max volume, but hearing people through headsets while driving is often too low with all volumes set to max (on loud freeways, for example). I usually keep my phone's ringer on silent vibrate, but it would be nice to be able to turn it up louder when the phone is sitting on a desk at home. Cell phone ringers can be obnoxiously loud, but there are times when people need to have them turned up.
Because it is an issue in both the ringer speaker and the jack for wired headsets, it seems like there is a good chance of getting a software fix to raise the max volume levels. Reading posts on forums, it seems clear that this problem is widespread in most, if not all, Droid X devises.
If you are having similar problems, please take a moment to call both Verizon and Motorola with a polite report of the issue. I spoke with both today and they said they were aware of the issue, and the tech at Motorola said they were "looking into" a software fix for it. If enough people call and report it, we have a better chance of getting a fix sometime soon.
    Verizon's support line is: (800) 922-0204.
Motorola's is: (800) 734-5870 (I chose #6 for "other issues" a couple of times after routing into Droid support to get a live tech)
It can be frustrating to filter through the support systems and report it, especially if they tell you to try obvious things like rebooting the phone and turning the volume up, but it really is the only way to get them to fix this issue. Both techs I spoke with actually looked in their systems right away and acknowledged the issue is being reported by people.
Of course, if anyone has a real solution to this issue, please let us know what it is!

Thanks for the suggestion JKramer. I should have been more clear about having adjusted all volumes up in the settings screen. Assuming all sound options are located within the "Settings --> Sound & Display" screen, then yes, I have tried changing them. I have also tried changing the option to "use incoming call volume for notifications" under the "ringer volume" settings, after reading that someone had success in improving volume that way.
This issue is not a problem all of the time. It is only an issue when there is an elevated level of background noise, such as driving on the freeway, or having music or a movie playing in the room.
The phone is otherwise excellent! I live and commute in areas of very spotty reception (with all cell providers), and this phone will keep calls and not even have voices garble where my past two phones have consistently dropped calls in at least five problem locations. So far, everything else about it seems to work great!
Maybe some of these phones don't have this issue. Or, maybe the people who say they don't encounter the problem are lucky enough to live in relatively quite environments most of the time. In a quiet house or office, it is certainly loud enough. It just needs to have the option for increased volume when in noisy places. The issue is that its "max volume" settings are not as loud as with other phones.
Searching for something like "Droid X volume" will indeed show many people experiencing these same problems on various forums...

  • Volume too low on Lumias

I previuosly owned a Lumia 800 and now a Lumia 920, and both have exactly the same problem...the earphone volume is just too low. Things are fine of you are hearing in a quiet room, but if you are walking or jogging in the street, the music volume at 30\30 is too low.
Nokia should get an iphone or ipod and compare, Hard too see how Nokia can sell itself as a music platform, yet produce sub par music devices.
I'm angry because of this. The Lumia 920 is an expensive device. Switching back to the iphone...

I love the Lumia 920 and the Windows 8 OS. I started off with the iphone, then to android, and now to windows 8 phone. However, there are certain things that should be left up to the consumer to control. Not everyone is the same, your hearing may be more sensative than another person. Since this is a Nokia issue, the volume should have been left to a volume level that will please everyone. I like listening to music loud especially when I am cutting my grass. It is annoying using a weed trimmer and I can hardly hear the music cause it is too low even though I have it at the max setting. The exteranl speaker is the same issue. 10/10 is rediculous. Everyone is always trying to control the way others do things and say things, express themselves, etc. It needs to be adressed and included in the next update.

  • Microphone level too low

It seems like the microphone input level on my wife's iPhone 4 is too low. People have trouble hearing her during her calls. Using the headset, speakerphone, or Bluetooth doesn't increase the volume, nor does covering up the noise-cancelling input on the top.
Using the voice recorder app, I used the same headset the same distance from my mouth to compare the meter volume against my 1st gen iPhone, and the input comes in at least 6dB lower.
Is this a defective model that needs to be returned? Or is this expected as part of the new design? My wife says she can't use it as a phone, it may have to go back.
It would be great if a future iOS update allowed us to adjust the input level.

My wife's iPhone 4 has the same problem concerning the person that she is talking to can't hear her very well at all. It sounds like she is down in a well or the microphone is far away from her mouth.
We have confirmed that signal strength does not appear to be an issue as it does the same thing with 2 bars or 4 bars. I have had her call me on my office landline, so we don't have the issue of two cell phones to cloud the issue.
She also has one of the vinyl or silicon covers that AT&T sold us the day we bought the phone.
She is right-handed, so some of the issues mentioned concerning problems covering up the antenna by left-handers is not a factor.
We are on the latest software revision - v4.0.1 (I believe that was the release we download to iTunes and installed onto her iPhone 4.
The only thing else we have noticed is that the volume of her call approaches a normal level after about 30 seconds into the call.

  • IPad volume too low on Apple TV when watching movies

    Hi.
I have the latest Apple TV, 3rd Gen iPad and Retina MacBook Pro.  If I play any movie through Apple TV using my iPad (using Video App) the volume is often far too low.  This means that I have to turn my Amp/Speakers up (to around +60; +40 is normal) often leading to the sound cutting out altogether and on one occassion blew my amp.
However, I can put the identical film/file on my MacBook Pro - stream that into my Apple TV and the volume outputs at +40 as normal and everything is fine.
Also - If I stream TV etc through the iPad and play it onto my Apple TV - again this can be heard no problems at +40.  The same can be said if I stream a youtube video using the iPad (+40 is fine)
I can only conclude there is something amiss with my iPad or in partic the Video App/settings for films but have no idea how to remedy it.
Pls can someone help me sort this as my Macbook pro is often left in the office and so I cant use it to watch movies at home all the time
    Thanks

Have you tried checking or resetting your volume limiter under "music" from the Settings home page.  Scroll down to "Music" and tap "Volume Limit".  Once there you can either turn it off or raise the maximum volume.  If you go to the max it will just turn off the limiter.
Here's a video from CNET that also explains this easy adjustment.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook Speaker Volume Too Low

I have all speaker/audio settings everywhere set at maximum, but the speaker volume I get when I play any kind of audio or video feed from anywhere is way too low. (If I plug external speakers into the headphone jack, the volume is much better.) I've seen all of the posts where the solution was to do something on the "Enhancements" tab in Playback Devices, Properties, but I don't have that tab on my system. When I go into the Configure option and do the audio test, the volume there is great! I've also checked for updates on my audio drivers and the results have come back saying I have the best version already.
I've been putting up with this for a long time, but I'm really tired of having to plug external speakers in when I want to watch a video or listen to streaming music. I'd appreciate any suggestions (other than the one involving the "Enhancements" tab that I don't have) that might help fix this problem!

  • Volume too low on download from itunes store how to fix

My download from itunes store won't play on my ipad at a decent volume.  How do I fix it?
Actually, I suspect the download itself is too low and fuzzy.  How do I reload?

If you are having a problem with a song you downloaded from iTunes, you can report it to an iTunes worker and they will redownload the song for you for free.  Go to the song you bought and find where it says "report a problem".  Click on that, and you can explain your problem to an iTunes worker.

  • Volume too low on album purchased on iTunes

I purchased an album on iTunes and when I burn to CD the volume is too low. I have done all suggest things to "enhance" the sound. All other items I have purchased are fine. It just seems to be this one album. Any suggestions. Is there a way to "repurchase-download" without paying.
    Jenean

    Craw4dm,
If you go to iTunes menu, select preferences and click on "playback" button you'll see a check box called "sound check". This enables the computer to adjust the volume of each track so that they all sound similar in volume. So no, you don't have to go through each track! Its a global setting of your music player.
I have it switched off at all times. I also have sound enhancer switched off at all times.
These features have no effect on volume (or anything for that matter) when you burn CD's.
As to the original poster, if the CD sounds quiet then that is how its supposed to be. If buy the CD in the shops it will sound the same. Note that there is big trend at the moment to make albums sound very loud using special processing at the mastering stage (when audio is prepared for album release). It is a trend that most "audiophiles" (or IMHO anyone with ears!) detest. Look up "loudness wars" or similar, on google.
Indeed the "sound check" facility in itunes is there to counteract the fact that CD's sound different in volume - a fact that is made all the worse by the record company practise I have just outlined!
I suspect the "quiet CD" just sounds more like it should do and its being compared to a CD thats been mastered overly loud.

  • Headset volume too low

I just bought an iphone for wife, she said the earphone volume is too low, I have set the volume to max, any idea? Thanks Alex

The volume issue WAS a problem. Apple fixed it for most people a number of software releases ago. Most of the volume complaints stopped a long time ago after the fix. Now, with the 3G iphone, my volume is very loud and much better than even the fixed first version iphone. I think if you read the many initial reviews of the 3G version, most mentioned how much better the handset, speaker and speakerphone quality and loudness is. I know this is not solace for someone with a problem now, but I don't think it is widespread. You could just have a defective phone. Take it in the Apple Genius bar and see if they will get you a new one.
