X-Fi Xtreme, WinXp SP3, chronic volume fading, can't use beta dri

Hello,
Per the new beta driver that's being reviewed in another thread, the into says "This download is a?beta driver providing Microsoft? Windows Vista? and?Windows?XP support for Creative Sound Blaster? X-Fi? series of audio devices..."
Except for the X-Fi Xtreme, that is. Way down at the bottom of the intro there is this note:? "Do not install this driver for Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio."
Well, that's my card. I'm running XP SP3 after successfully downgrading two PCs from Vista Ultimate. The sound on the other PC is OK with an Audigy2, but this machine has the X-Fi Xtreme and it's experiencing all sorts of weird symptoms.
I uninstalled everything, including the card, and reinstalled it with the latest driver on the support page, XFXA_PCDRV_LB__04_0079.exe. This had no effect on the problems.
In any surround sound mode: when the card first starts playing back any audio source - stream, DVD, audio file - the volume for all frequencies except bass quickly fades. Within seconds only bass remains and continues playing until I get sick of hearing it and turning the source off.
If I set the mode to quadrophonic, or any other setting except surround, the fading does not occur;? but then the volume of all frequencies goes up and down with a period of 3 or 4 seconds.
Per what I said above, I can't use the beta driver so I'm currently working with the one that came with XFXA_PCDRV_LB__04_0079.exe?
Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to fix this problem?
Thanks for your time,
Big Al Mintaka?

UPDATE 08/2009:? Today I used Creative's auto-update program install the latest driver v.4.80 for my X-Fi Xtreme. ? It didn't do anything to fix the fade problem I first reported back in 09/2008.
So I looked around the forum and found Daniel's latest support pack SB P7X Series Support Pack .6 (05/4/2009). I tried that, but still no change, the fade problem persists in all surround modes. In all other modes, the audio still starts oscillating up and down after 2-3 sec.
Right. Many thanks to Daniel for all the hard work you've done trying to support Creative's products. NO thanks to Creative.
So I'm going to trash the X-Fi. I know this next question is considered lame in a product's forum, but given my experiences with Creative I don't see how it could hurt: can anyone recommend a good **non-Creative** audio card for a 5. system? Here are the particulars:
PC: Dell Dimension 8300 3.2GHz .0GB RAM
OS: Windows XP SP3
Video: ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256K
Audio: Creative X-Fi Xtreme/NFG
350GB Maxor Internal HD (2)
Speakers: Logitech Z-5500 THX-cert. 505-watt 5. digital surround system with digital equalization
Thanks to all for your time,
?Big Al Mintaka

  • Problem opening Canon 6D RAW even after upgrade today to PS CS6, WinXP-SP3

Givens: PS CS5>CS6 upgrade via $199USD download today, Non-CC upgrade. OS: WinXP SP3, camera: Canon 6D RAW (.CR2 files) and prefer to work on RAWs via Bridge.
Main goal: view Canon 6D files in Bridge, do adjustments, open via ACR into PS CS6 for further work.
My fav workflow for photos is: Bridge>ACR>PS. Just got a Canon 6D camera. So I updated to PS CS6 today and I did go through PS CS6 menu: help>update mechanism for all available updates, which was one round of ACR (and Bridge) updates, no more were offered. That brought ACR from v7.0.0.308 to v7.1.0.354--still could not see Canon 6D RAW files.  I went to Adobe.com and did manual download for ACR/DNG 7_3 but it did not enable Bridge to see my new camera files nor could I open the 6D .CR2 files in PS. Got PS error message about not recognizing filetype, update ACR, etc (which of course I just attempted). (Seems as through PS and Bridge did not know the ACR/DNG 7.3 "existed" IF that is a capability).
Then I tried to install ACR 8.7 from the "Fix your 6D RAW problems page" and got error messages in PS CS6 (perhaps bc I am on 32-bit system). Decided to start from scratch; uninstalled PS CS6 upgrade.
Secondary issue is: Now I have uninstalled PS CS6 and done System Restore to the point just after I downloaded PS CS6 upgrade. I want to reinstall but the installer fails. Support chat told me to download PS CS6 Upgrade again (doing that now), then reinstall.
Solve: Main problem: Be able to work on Canon 6D RAW through Bridge and ACR (prefer NOT to workaround with DNG if possible) At time of writing, as mentioned, I am downloading PS CS6 upgrade again, then plan to reinstall. If that works, then I need steps to update ACR so that I can work on 6D RAWs through Bridge and ACR. Please know that going through Photoshop's Help>Update mechanism does NOT seem to work. Do I need manual updates? If so, please direct me to the correct ones and order of procedure to execute this upgrade successfully.
    Many thanks, Paul

Yammer, thanks for the info about Camera Raw 8.3--that is my goal to load PS CS6 Upgrade and update to Camera Raw 8.3  Currently, I am having problems installing PS CS6 upgrade after uninstall. I have used Adobe CC Cleaner several times. It seemed to help, and the installer proceeded further with next try. Then I looked and there was no PS CS6 icons. I have done system restore also several times and am about to try again. It seems that my original PS CS6 upgrade installed, but when I tried to load ACR update, problems arose. Is there a way to remove recent version Camera Raw remnants from my computer. There is no Photoshop CS6 folder and further none for the CameraRaw.8bi for PS CS6. One possible clue: Yesterday I did two upgrades: 1) PS CS4>CS5 via box, then 2) PS CS5.CS6 on-line download non-CC. In one round of update, I saw that PS CS*5* Extension Manager failed to update. Seems unrelated but mentioned here for thoroughness.
Running ACR 8.3 in XP SP3 would be most useful and timely today as I have work to do. Many thanks, Paul

  • WinXP SP3 and Boot Camp 2.1 | Win BSOD ATI card not correct!

    Configuration:
Loaded and OEM WinXP SP3 on an iMac with Boot Camp V2.0. All worked correctly.
Immediately after Boot Camp 2.0 completed installed Boot Camp V2.1. All worked correctly.
    Problem:
Working in Windows the OS triggered a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) after the OS was up for approximately 10 minutes. This was a repeatable problem.
    Investigation:
Downloaded Windows DeBug utility to analyze the crash dump files from the BSODs. For reference on how to read the Windows dmp files and how to use Windows DeBug utility see the following link.
    http://www.networkworld.com/news/2005/041105-windows-crash.html
Determined that the fault was caused by a driver file ati2mtag.sys.
Checked the version with the latest availble from the manufacturer ATI. It was the most recent version
    Analysis:
In Windows right click on My Computer, go to Properties.
Go to the Hardware tab in Properties, and then to the Device Manager, drop down the Display adapters. The model shown was a Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT!
This is WRONG, the video card in this iMAC is a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro.
    Conclusion:
Windows and or Boot Camp loaded the incorrect video drivers for the video card.
    Solution:
    1. Download and install Dot Net 2.0 because the ATI driver installer requires this level to install required drivers. The download is available at the following link.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD -AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
    2. Go to ATI driver support page and download the latest Catalyst driver for 32-bit XP.
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp
    3. After download, launch the installer, just proceed with the installer until it gets to the point where it pops up an error message saying that the installer could not find a suitable driver for your hardware.
    4. Close out the installer and right click on My Computer, go to Properties.
    5. Go to the Hardware tab in Properties, and then to the Device Manager, drop down the Display adapters, and you should see Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT, this is incorrect.
    6. Right click on the video card and choose Update Driver, you will be now see a Hardware Update Wizard.
    7. It says Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software? Select No, not this time, and click Next... Now you should see What do you want wizard to do? Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and click Next.... On the next page select Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install, click Next....
    8. On the lower right corner of the Wizard, Have Disk... Now click Browse and go to C: > ATI > Support > Driver, and select the inf file in there, click Open.
    9. Scroll through to locate and then select ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro, and install that, you might get a message saying this driver isn't certified, ignore it and continue.
    10. After completion, reboot.
My system is now running correctly, no more BSOD's!

hmm, is it possible that the same problem of the imac is mine on the macpro with 2 ati 2600 cards?
from where do you know that the recginized xt card is wrong and it must the pro version? cause of the 256mb to 512mb at the offical xt version?
plz take a look at my problem thread:

  • MAX will not display any installed modules mounted to cRIO-9074 chassis WinXP SP3 LV2010 developer

MAX will not display any installed modules mounted to cRIO-9074 chassis WinXP SP3 LV2010 Developer Suite.
I can see the backplane in MAX and Project explorer but none of the modules show up for configuration in the drop down lists.  The LV was just installed on the PC with RT/FPGA/Sound and Vibration. I have Admin and am accessing through a PCMCIA Ethernet card. I have to disable normal wireless Ethernet just to see the cRIO unit at all.

Well, you actually won't be able to see the C-series modules for a cRIO in MAX.  Take a look at this KnowledgeBase article for a little more information.
As far as not being able to see them in the Project explorer, are you trying to run in FPGA or Scan Interface?  If you're using the FPGA Interface, you'll have to make sure to expand the FPGA Target tree in the Project explorer to see these modules.

  • DESPERATE HELP PLS: WinXP, SP3: Creative Console and other elements crashing

LDESPERATE HELP PLS: WinXP, SP3: Creative Console and other elements crashingRHi all. Hoping someone out there can help; I've been going around in circles for far too long on this.
    Exec summary:
WinXP, SP3, Audio finally is working, Creative Console launches but crashes consistently. Diagnostics fails, on-screen could not install.
    System:
    WinXP, SP3
    Story
I had an original X-Fi card that came with my Dell XPS70 3 years ago. Working perfectly, until I upgraded to WinXP, SP3 (from SP2).
BAM - lots of BSODs, always in ha20x2k.sys. Many times, all networking would just stop, and the BSOD would happen when shutting down the computer. Networking would fail 00% everytime I watched any kind of video (news, youtube, whatever).
Couldn't find more current drivers, bought X-Fi ExtremeGamer card from Frys. Could not get this to install off the package CD, new card was not recognized by Windows. Install would always hang on "On-Screen display" (I have a dual monitor system - should that matter?)
Eventually, downloaded more current drivers and console app from the Creative website and got audio working. Console will now launch but the moment I try to change something in the EQ panel, the console crashes, 00% of the time. Other Creative apps (e.g. diagnostics) fail with this error:? "The audio device supported by this application may not be present or may be operating in an unsupported mode..."
I haven't been able to "cleansweep" my system, the link in this (Creative) forum is broken.
REALLY hoping someone can help get this working... Have spent 2 days away from business to try to make this work properly, and am out of things to try.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

I should add - I have NO interest in gaming, just looking for high-end audio...

  • BSOD-Problem ha20x22k.sys X-Fi WinXP SP3 multicore-processor

    Hi @all,
I already read around this forum & know that the bluescreens in connection with ha20x22k.sys only happen on WinXP SP3 machines with multicore processors. There seem to be a beta driver XFTI_PCDRVBETA_2_7_0005.zip that fixes this issue. There are several postings about it here in this forum and Google finds more elsewhere.
Only there is no download link.
    Where can I get XFTI_PCDRVBETA_2_7_0005.zip?
    Sincerely - Harry Zingel - www.zingel.de

    Hi!
I had similar problems with a older Creative Cards. This ist PCI-IRQ Routing problem most caused by a Bios that is not 00% ACPI compatible, even if the manufracturer say it is 00% compatible.
I solved this with a Bios upgrade or before is did the Bios upgrade i changed the ACPI kernel to a MPS kernel (i wont suggest that because if something goes wrong, it is not easy to repair the OS and needs much OS-internal-related knowledge to do this).

  • D20 + SATA ONLY + WINXP SP3 32BIT

    Hi all,
Currently testing a D20 for the business and cant get the D20 to run as a SATA drive only. Currently its spinning up the Marvell controller with a 500GB drive in.
Have tried going into the BIOS and disabling the RAID controller but then I cant seem to use the HD as just a SATA drive.
The only joy I've had is plugging in a floppy disc with 32bit Marvell controller drivers booting up with WinXP 32bit, as it going through install hit F6 to install controller drivers then once I hit continue to get back to the setup/format drives I get a blue screen of death. The strange thing is if I use our WinXP SP3 32bit Microsoft licensing copy which it MUST be installed with I get this BSOD but if I through in a Dell WinXP SP3 32bit OS disc I can install the operating system no problem at all!
All I want to do really is disable the RAID controller (somehow) use SATA single drive only and install WinXP SP3 32bit using our Microsoft Licensing copy with out it blue screening!!
    Any help would be fantastic!
    Cheers,
    Ant

  • PM7 and WinXP SP3

Following a disaster, I replaced the primary HDD on my home PC with a brand new one last wekend.
After re-installing WinXP, MSO2K3, CS2, the thousands of updates which took hours and a call to Adobe for new activiation code as I wasn't able to de-activate, there being an HDD failure, I can confidently assert that PM7 (followed by the updates to PM7.0.1a) installs perfectly. And yes, there is a minor error/typo somewhere in the PM7.0.1a update which calls it PM7.0.1.
And my positively ancient T1 fonts (Gill Sans, Times New RomanPS and Courier) from 1991 were all added by the windows Font manager as expected and without a hitch.
Export… AdobePDF… also worked perfectly first time with PM figuring it all out by itelf with Distiller 7.  (My default printer is an HP Laserjet 2300PS which probably helps.)
So for anyone who is having problems with PM7 and WinXP SP3, I can only conclude that years of accumulated windows junk is where to look.
As they say with windows, if a re-boot doesn't solve, re-install!

Not enough information, but my best guess is a: INstalling SP3 always
reenables the (new) Firewall. Potentially your GPO doesn't always take,
    and needs several reboots.
But to find out what's going on, the details of the clntrust status is
needed, and potentially a lan trace. If the clntrust tstus doesn't show
any requests (and that's my guess), then my guess becomes almost
    certain.

I can no longer run System Update; it displays the splash screen, then a small window pops up with the above error message. • On how many computers can you use a volume license?

Our organization purchased AOO (Adobe Open Options) volume licensing and asked for 6 Mac licenses. We were given 2 licenses for Mac and 2 licenses for Windows. Does anyone here know if the licenses are interchangeable for Mac and Windows? Do you know how many times you can enter the same license into a different computer? Any help would be great. Thank you!

I ended up speaking with Customer Support and for volume licensing, you can install the CS3 software on as many computer systems on a network as you'd like.
You are only limited to operating the CS3 software up to the maximum number of licenses your organization purchased.
So if you have 10 volume licenses you can install the CS3 software on 100 Mac and/or PC systems if you'd like, but can only use the CS3 software on 10 of those systems simultaneously.
The confusing part is they still only give you one or two license key numbers...
If you have a normal consumer license you can only install the software on two separate computer systems, period. And you cannot use the CS3 software on moth systems at the same time.
    Thanks again.

I tried to do a system install, but message said…disk can't be changed. Will a complete erase and install fix this ?
    Everything is backed-up.

    There's hardware and software.
Your drive could physically be in good condition but something has caused the file structure to be messed up (it just happens sometimes).  The directory that keep track of files is corrupt.  Disk Utility can help determine if that is the issue.  In some cases it can repair the problem but it cannot do it to a drive that is being used to boot the system while you are doing that.  You have to boot from another drive.  Some things DU cannot repair and you need to try a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior.
A failing hard drive (one with mechanical issues) can be a cause of file structure issues but this is by no means always the case.  Apart from looking at the SMART diagnosis feature of Disk Utility (and smart isn't totally reliable) there often isn't a way to tell if a drive is failing until it suddenly happens, which is why you need to maintain backups.
In your situation it does sound serious and not just minor directory corruption.  You can try erasing (formatting) the drive,  You may need to do this if it is really corrupt, in which case there could be underlying physical issues.  I use old technology but if you have the patience you can try erasing the drive with the security option of writing zeros once (don't do more unless you are going on a 3 week vacation).  This makes the drive not simply assume everything is okay by forcing it try every part of the drive by writing data.  If something is gong wrong you may find it marks a lot of bad sectors, or flat out refuses to format.  Then you know you need a new drive.

  • Not able to control volume up/down while using Digital AV Adapter.

    Hi there,
I am using iPhone 5, iPad 4 and digital av adapter. Video mirroring works fine but can't control volume while the devices are plugged with the digital av adapter. The volume button just disappear when it is plugged.
I use 24 inch monitor with speaker and non-apple HDMI cable.
    Wondering anyone has any idea.
Thank you for your comments in advance.

When an apple device is connected to a HDMI display e.g. a TV, it is possible indeed usual for the sound output to be also automatically sent over the HDMI connection to the TV speakers. This works fine.
However, in this configuration the on-screen volume control on the apple device is disabled and the device has no way itself to control the volume level. The volume level can be controlled on the TV. As this stands, this could be considered normal correct behavior.
