X-Fi XtremeMusic and Digital Out

Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but here goes...
I have a WinXP machine with an X-Fi XtremeMusic card that I would like to hook up to my Onkyo TX-SR600 receiver. The ideal situation would be to run a single digital line into the coax digitial input of my receiver. I would like all sounds to pass through the receiver and let the receiver do the decoding if possible.
Do I need to hook up analog cables for the 6 channels in addition to the digital line?
Thanks for any help,
- James T

No, just run the digital coax to the rec. If you don't have one, you will need a digital coax and a /8 mono to RCA adapter. Radio Shack has these items.
If you play games and want surround sound, you will have to go to analog out. I acutally have both analog out and digital out. They work well.

Have you tried using the PNPreg tool provided by microsoft for this problem? A description of the problem can be found in this kbase article on Microsoft's site:

This is specifically aimed at Winfast Graphics Adaptors, but it applies to this situation also. Follow the instructions found in the resolution section of the article.

  • Software switch between internal speakers and digital out?

I have a brand new Aluminum iMac.
My iMac is connected to my stereo receiver with the built-in S/PDIF Digital Output.
But sometimes I'd like to just use my iMac's internal speakers, so I don't need to power up the receiver.
But when I plug in the digital cable, OS X turns off my speakers, and vice-versa. The Sound Control Panel doesn't give me the option.
I've googled for a while on this -- it looks like Windows leaves the digital output on even if the internal speakers are playing, so this is clearly a software issue.
Is there any way I can use software in Leopard to switch between my internal speakers and my digital output? (Or to use both at once?)

    Funkey Monkey wrote:
Isn't there a software option out there somewhere?
I don't know fore sure, but I believe inserting a plug into
the audio output jack electrically disconnects the speakers.
Yep, totally brain-dead -- but so is the entire analog/digital
"combo jack" nonsense. It leaves you with no way to monitor
any digital audio signal being sent to an external device.
    Not with headphones OR speakers!
IMO, the only workable solution is a USB or Firewire
audio interface. If you only need digital audio output,
the cheapest stuff available ($25-ish) should be fine.
If you also want good 24-bit A2D/D2A converters, mic
preamps, etc. expect to pay $150 and up.

  • SB X-Fi Titanium and digital out so

I want to confirm from what I'm reading and experiencing that using optical output to a receiver that supports Dolby Digital at a minimum will only output on two channels from this sound card. When I purchased this card I was under the impression that I could pipe out all sound to my 5. capable receiver and get 5. results. Clearly my research was incomplete. Despite have a HELL of a time getting drivers to install on Vista64 alone (haven't finished tackling getting my other OS, XP32) I am at wits end with this card. Of course now I'm also hearing that most sounds cards will only output stereo sound via optical unless something like DD or DTS is enabled. Well, I've enabled it here and all I ever get is an amalgamation of 3D sound via left from and right front speakers. Is this in fact how it's supposed to be? There's no way to force continuous 5. sound to the receiver? No way to force a filter through DDL to output 5. sound?

I've been going through the same headaches with my extreme gamer. I wanted the quality of an optical connection and was impressed with the improved clarity and gain, but as frustrated that no 5. seemed possible on anything other then dvd's.
A extreme GAMER card should have GAME support one would think. Then I read about the Dolby Digital Li've Pack, avalible here at the web site, For a fee of course ^&%$&(.
It convert ALL sound from your card, even stereo if you use the CMSS-3D settings, to Dolby so any reciever can now decode them via an optical cable.
The only issue I'm having is that with Dolby Digital Li've enabled I'm getting a few millisecond delay that is slightly throwing off the lip syncing while playing video, I can't seem to find out why, with the DDL unticked the delay is gone, but so is the 5..
I'm not sure if it is because the DDL works in real-time and that causes the slight delay, or not. It isn't a huge problem just a annoying one.
It seems that Creative sucks at digital, lol. Or just doesn't care very much about it.

  • Audigy Value and Digital Out probl

    I read the faq.
I have the Audigy Value card with the digital I/O mini-jack. I tried using a standard optical cable with an adapter mini-jack "cap" to pop on one end to plug into the sound card, and the other end into my digital in on my stereo. I still can't get any sound, is there some setting I am missing.
I pop in my Hercules sound card that has a normal type optical out and everything works fine without me messing with it, so I know it isn't the stereo input.

  • Analog in digital in and digital out slow ?

    Hi
    6261 PC board used.
I have 5 analogue channels as input, 2 digital channels as input, one of which is a trigger for the analogue
sample read. The analogue samples are written to a labview measurement file (.lvm) all this
is fine and dandy and can read up to about 720 k samples/s.
But when I try to output the second digital input (the one that isn't a trigger), I do not get an output
that is related to the input (using an oscillioscope to view input and output). The input shows
about 5 pulses to the outputs one. Eventually I want to sample the second digital inputm and
delay it slightly before outputting it, but I want to be confident I will be getting the same number
    of pulses out.
I even trimmed to vi down just have one dig in, going straight out, and it still didn't match the
    number of pulses.
I am using DAQmx throughout, could that slow things down (using express DAQ) ?
    any help appreciated,
    sandra

here is my latest vi, I am still having some problems.
I created this vi from the 'Gen Dig Pulse.vi' example, I have changed it to
generate the pulse according to ticks rather than frequency and I have
    added the trigger.
The source of ticks is a digital pulse from an optical encoder that is sending
out 360 pulse per revolution of an engine crankshaft, the trigger is from the
same optical encoder, but it one pulse per revolution. I require the
output to be of the same frequency as the trigger and delayed by a
    configurable number of ticks.
The output is ok for up to about 400 revs per minute, but after that the output
is intermittent and some pulses are lost.
If anyone can take a look at the vi and advise me on this I would be grateful.
I have tried leaving only the 'wait until done task' in the loop, but this gave
no output, I also tried adding an implicit 'timing' task, but this gave to many
    outputs,
    regards,
    Sandra

  • Can I enable both a bluetooth audio device and digital-out port at the same time?

Hi!  I just got a bluetooth speaker and want to use it at the same time as my audio-out port which drives speakers in another room.  In preferences, the iMac wants me to choose one or the other...  Is there a way to enable both at once?
    Thanks!

You probably should not be using a keyboard bluetooth profile for a scanner, I am not a developer for apple so do not know the location for you to find out the correct profile you should be using for an input device that is not a keyboard. Sorry,
I am sure if you navigate the apple developer site you will probaly finmd what you're looking for.

  • Xtrememusic: Digital out or Analog out, Advantages Disadvanta

I have a Xtrememusic card, that has a wonderful sound using the analog outputs to 3 Sonic Impact T-Am
    ps.
Now, I'm curious about using the digital out to a Panasonic SA-XR55 digital amp/receiver. I know I would lose the CMSS, but the Panasonic can do it's own synthesis of surround. I'm interested in knowing from users about the pros and cons of using the digital out or analog outs. I know the quality of the Xtrememusic DACs are good, and I read that the Panasonic?has a excellent sound output as well. If I choose to use the digital out, I could just use?the motherboard onboard digital out, although only in DVD modes does it do a true bitperfect pass through. In stereo mode, it's still using some of Windows to mix the sound. I could also use the digital out of the card. Seems like a shame to bypass all of that nice analog the card is capable of?
Oh yeah, anyone know if a old Creative Li've 5. I/O panel will work with a Xtrememusic card??Thanks

    wiersch,
I believe you might have Skype set to auto-configure your soundcard. Try this, open Skype and go to it's audio setting menu. Disable the option 'Let Skype adjust my sound device setting.'

  • XtremeMusic digital out: stereo? 2.1? passthrou

    Hi all,
Every X-Fi Card has FlexiJack with a 3-in- function (Digital IO/ Line In / Microphone). This jack can be used to connect to the receiver's Coaxial In (via minijack to rca adapter).
    So here is the question:
can the XtremeMusic Card be connected to the reciever only via digital coax and
    - pass stereo fram mp3s/CDs/etc
    - pass-through the compressed AC3/DTS signal from movies
    - decode the AC3/DTS to stereo and pass it digitally to the receiver
    Many thanks
    drjack

You could use a 3-Ft. Gold Series Stereo Y-Cable, Phono Plugs to /8" Jack.
The /8" Jack plugs into the FlexiJack/digital output of X-Fi SB XtremeMusic.
    Red RCA : Digital Out
    White RCA : Digital In
Or, too make it easy. Because you have a X-Fi?XtremeMusic soundcard, you can get the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module. /8" Jack with Input: Optical and Coaxial and Output: Optical and Coaxial.

  • Audio output changed to 'Digital Out' and speakers don't work! Please help!

I'm not exactly sure what's happened, but after starting up my macbook pro, my speakers/audio haven't worked.
The volume control in the menu bar is inactive (looks light grey) and in the Sound menu, I have no option for output devices except for 'Digital Out' - there is no other option for 'external speakers' (as per usual) or anything!
I can plug earphones in, and sound comes out fine... I don't know what may have happened, but I'm really worried - I use my MBP for home & work; I need my speakers to work!!
If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be really grateful. Thank you in advance.

Talked to Tech Support about this when my machine locked up in this same fashion. There's a little "door" inside the headphone jack that can get stuck in the open position and keep the audio from switching back to the internal speakers / stuck in the digital (optical) output position...
The solution: the iPick... It's a toothpick, but if you use it to poke around inside the headphone jack until the little door gets unstuck, it becomes an iPick, and a box of them are very expensive, but they come in lovely colors and are very intuitive to use...
I'm not kidding... Stick a toothpick (or other non-conductive small stick) in the headphone jack and joog it around until it releases the little door...

  • Help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Using ATV2/3 with non-HDMI Receiver and theater projector and also need iTunes downloaded movies to work.   I'm thinking to use the Toslink digital out for surround sound and an HDMI to RGB converter for video but not sure the iTunes DRM will prevent?

I have a theater with a Runco projector but non HDMI. alas, my receiver is non HDMI. Changing electronics and projector is a non-starter.
I would like to be able to buy HD movies on iTunes and watch them by streaming via Apple TV3. My plan is to capture surround sound from the TosLink digital out, which my preamp/receiver can handle. For the video, I need to convert the HDMI to RGB component to feed my receiver.
This is where iTunes DRM and HDCP issues might arise. I am under the impression that I need an non-HDMI compliant converter so that ATV3 can even talk to my receiver. It is my understanding that this is possible and takes care of the HDCP issue. But what about the DRM issue? All I want to do is buy and watch HD movies, no bad intentions. I find it incredible that iit might not be possible.
Anyways, is there a 100% certain approach even if it costs up to $300-400. Again, changing hardware is a non-starter so please avoid the obvious "buy an HDMI amp and projector".
    Thanks

  • 2009 Mac Pro no audio out from Line Out and/or Digital Out.

Hey guys, I recently bought a new tv which has an optical input and thought I'd buy an optical cable to connect it to my Mac Pro's (4.1 model 2009 I believe) digital out port which I have never used before .
The issue I'm facing since is that I can't get out from my mac pro to my tv. I also bought a cable to direct sound from my mac pro's line out, to my tv's red/white stero audio ports. That didn't work either.
When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out while when I switch to line out output I can control volume but no audio is coming from my TV.
I've been searching on forums and didn't find any relevant answer so if someone knows what may cause this that'd be really helpful.
*ALSO: I've got windows 8 instaleld on my mac pro as well. The digital out doesn't work there as well although the line out does send sound to the TV.
** I also have soundflower installed and perian although I don't think any of them would mess things up like that.
Do you think this is a problem with my Mac or is this a common Mavericks issue (sorry forgot to mention I'm on 10.9.2)
    Many Thanks,
    Thanos.

When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out
That's normal.  Is the correct audio input selected on the TV?

Do you see a red light in the headphone jack?? If you do, then the microswitch is stuck and you need to turn it off. Try poking it with a toothpick.
If you don't see a red light, then try resetting the SMC and PRAM and see if these helps. Here are the links.
