X-Fi XtremeMusic "stuttering" playing mu

I've had my X-Fi a day now. Let's say I was a LITTLE more than unimpressed when I finished up installing the software and the card was stuttering/skipping right off the bat. My problem wasn't the crackling/popping most people complain about, and it wasn't even while gaming. My problem was I couldn't play a file in iTunes for more than 3 minutes without it stuttering.
My system is: Asus P4B533, P4 2.4 @ 2.75, Radeon 9600XT, 2Gb ram, 2 Seagate Barracudas, 500w PSU, Pioneer DVR-09 dvdrw, ample cooling, Win XP Pro.
I tried updating the driver, then tried the beta, then tried a different PCI slot, then tried re-arranging my ram, then tried un-installing the bundled software. I was just short of a re-format when I checked my BIOS. Perhaps the first thing I should have tried, but that's learning for you. It solved everything. My X-Fi now performs flawlessly. I also re-installed the software (though not all of it!).
Hope this helps someone.

Try PCI Latency Tool (just google to find it). Decrease the AGP (graphics) latency to 64-28.

  • Xfi XtremeMusic only plays ambient sounds in ga

Hi, i've got a problem with my Xfi XtremeMusic when playing games. In many of my games inclusi've Call of Duty World At War and Assassins Creed, i only get the ambient sounds like wind, footsteps and so. Any speech or voices are not being played. It works on my onboard soundcard, but not on my soundblaster card.
    Any ideas?

Ive actuall had some issues with FEAR on my Intel HD audio and a Realtek Audio. I haevnt yet had the issue with my X-Fi Plat. However I have done exstensi've googling and found alot of people having the same issue over multiple sound cards. I am not sure but I might venture to say its a FEAR issue and might need to be updated in a patch of some sort. I know it wasnt much help but besides the obvious (which im sure you have done) Latest drivers etc Obviously there are the other games that have the same issues. If in XP try ramping up the hardwar acceleration to full throuttle?.Message Edited by enOehT on 05-08-200703:06 PM

  • Final Cut 7 stuttering playing prores 422 LT

    Specs:
    Mac Pro early 2008
    Dual quad core 2.8
    8GB RAM
    Lion 10.7.5
Now that that's out of the way...
This is really frustrating.  I have a project that's about 1TB in total, all in prores 422 (LT).  From the time I launch FCP, I have about 5 or 10 minutes, give or take, before every clip starts skipping and stuttering to the point of unusability.  I've checked everything I can think of.  I'm not taxing my RAM, CPU, or HD.  My scratch drive is a 2TB internal drive dedicated to scratch, so there's nothing else using it.  I've tried shutting off everything else on my system but that doesn't help either.  The only way I've been able to fix it is to restart FCP, but then it all just happens again.  I've tried copying clips to other HDs when it starts happening, but I get the same result regardless.  When it's working, I'm able to play a 2 angle multiclip perfectly, with the HD transferring at about 45 MB/s.  Single clips usually are about 23 MB/s, but when it starts stuttering, Activity Monitor says it barely is able to go above 15.
Any ideas?  This is driving me nuts.

I don't know the make of the camera at the moment, I'll find out today and update that later.  Here's a picture of my sequence settings:
I finished cutting this piece in Premiere (with no issues whatsoever) and exported an XML so I can prepare an FCP sequence to deliver.  The SECOND I imported the XML back into FCP, it was stuttering all over the place as bad as it ever has.
I have no idea what to think here.  I can play higher bit rate video in FCP without issues, but this particular format/codec is just a nightmare.  I think I can also rule out the camera because I tried taking other video from another project and transcoding it to match these settings and it gave me the same issues.

  • Quicktime pro 7.0.3 stutters playing .mp3 files

I really want to use quicktime to stream .mp3 radio stations. I like the clean interface that quicktime has. So, I try playing various radio stations I like (that work fine in Windows Media Player). They don't work!
Either the sound stutters when you open and close different application windows (when quicktime does play the .mp3 audio stream), or quicktime doesn't open up the .pls playlist. Try this one:
    http://www.somafm.com/indiepop.pls
Yeah, I know that I can use "safe mode" waveOut, but should that really be necessary? I have unchecked "play sound in foremost player" under sound settings, thinking maybe it had something to do with the different windows... same problems....
I am going back to Windows Media Player. I hope these problems are sorted out in the next version, and I haven't wasted my money....

Your machine does not have the video decompressor (thus the white screen) for that avi. Chances are that the audio is a non-standard format for avi files (variable bit rate mp3) and QT is sticking to standards. When you have the file open in QT Player (white screen and all) check MovieInfo (Command-I) to see what compressors were used. If it says DivX then try this freeware:

  • ITunes skips, stutters, jerky when I minimze

Okay here is the deal. I use to have iTunes 4.9 and it worked fine. When I went to update my iTunes to 6.0 it messed up my computer big time. So I uninstalled 6.0 and installed 4.9. That didn't work. I couldn't go back to the way it was. The problem is when iTunes is open and I try to play music it play fine. However when I go to minimize the program it starts to skip, stutters, plays jerky whatever, it doesn't play like it did on 4.9. It also bogs down my computer. I have over a gig or RAM. So I went to try my other audio player music match and the problem is even worse. I never had this problem before I installed iTunes 6.0. My mouse now disappears randomly when I have too many programs open and iTunes is not open. What ever iTunes did is conflicting with my other programs even when I restart and never open up iTunes.
I am running windows XP home edition SP2.
System Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz
    DirectX version: 9.0 or better
Graphics Card Processor: GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
    Video BIOS version 4.28.20.05.02
    ForceWare version: 81.85
I have Safe mode (waveOut only) checked in QuickTime 7.0.3.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing has change. If anything things got worse. My mouse is even jerky at times.
    PLEASE HELP!

    hi Michael!
hmmmm. let's try running your XP "Input Devices" troubleshooter. easiest way to find it is to do a Help and Support Search on "list of troubleshooters", and scroll down the list until you see the relevant link.

  • How to play FLV at its native resolution?

I am using an embedded Flash player set to display FLV files by default at 422x317.  When I click the player's max button (lower-right corner), the player maximizes so that it fills the entire monitor, which is sometimes set to 1920x1200 and sometimes set to 1024x768.
However, the native resolution of the video file itself is sometimes 800x600 and sometimes 640x480.  When I click on the max button, I want the player to take over the entire monitor space, BUT I want the video to only play at its actual resolution, not stretch larger or shrink smaller to fit the monitor.  Yes, even if that means the video is surrounded by black bars, that's ok.   To me it's more important that the video run without resampling.
I know this can be done because I've seen it done that way on other websites.  I'm guessing it's some setting on the server or client side.
    Anyone know?    Thanks

I'm currently editing with bigger AVCHD files in another project which play fine at full resolution.
I've just converted the movs into proxies, 640x480 jpeg2000 and made a sequence from clip settings in pro and it still plays stuttereing playing around 1 frame every 5 frames, in quicktime it plays fine, this is an exmaple of the file I'm using...

  • Quicktime Problems after 10.9.5 Update

After I updated my OS, quicktime has been running poorly. It doesn't start, stop or play through smoothly. It instead has a delayed response to pressing the play/pause button; it has stuttered play back. And the audio/ video is often out of synch. What can I do to troubleshoot?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Installing combined update for 10.4.11 from an iBook running 10.4.2

My friend's iBook was having trouble running iTunes (stuttered play); I checked to see what version she had and found she was running 7.1 under 10.4.2. I launched Software Update (which was set to search for updates monthly, but hasn't been) and set it to update four or five things--iTunes, Java, Quicktime, and the combined update for 10.4.11. Everything seemed to download and install fine, until the last one, the combined update. There was a red exclamation mark next to it in the Sofwware Update window and an error message popped up, saying there had been an error and it had been unable to install the update, and that the package was in the trash, where we should reopen it using the Finder. We did this; the Installer app launched and immediately closed (with the regular "application has quit unexpectedly" message). Attempts to launch other applications likewise fail. An attempt to download the combined update from the apple webpage was successful, but when we tried to mount the disk image, a "warning message" popped up, saying the disk image failed to mount due to a "broken pipe". The computer now hangs on restart and won't boot up. Any help restoring and/or updating would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Boot from the Original Install cD/DVD, look in the Menubar for Utilities>Disk Utility, use that to Verify/Repair the HD, then use it to Repair Permissions.
If you boot to the HD, then use Disk Utility from the HD to Repair Permissions then reboot again.

  • A note to those who need to edit FLVs

No, I certainly don't encourage editing FLVs, by any stretch of the imagination, but there are times when you've just gotta do what you've just gotta do...
I'm working on a client's project in which they're using predominantly stock footage that will be purchased from iStock. Instead of buying all the clips to begin with and editing with those, just in case my client's client changes their mind about some of the selects, I'm using the downloadable watermarked versions to do a first cut. All of the clips are FLVs, either as Flash Video 6 aka Sorenson Spark aka H.263 or as Flash Video 8 aka On2 VP6. The clips imported just fine into PPro CS4 and, though smaller than the final high-resolution versions, are good enough for a rough.
The problem was that these clips would play back sporadically--we've seen/heard about this a million and a half times before on the boards here about this issues. The clips would play OK for a few frames or seconds, then freeze, and then come loose again. Annoying, to say the least. I was about to convert all of these into something else (a process I wasn't looking forward to), when I suddenly had a thought.
It's been my experience that Premiere has a tendency to think that some types of footage or media have alpha channels, even when they don't. Upon closer inspection, that appeared to be the case here. Even though On2 VP6 does support an alpha channel, these clips did not have one. And the FLV6 clips definitely don't support alpha, and yet Premiere was saying that there was indeed an alpha channel associated with each one of these clips.
    Ah ha...
The solution to the stuttering play, therefore, turned out to be pretty simple: I simply right-clicked on my footage bin, selected "Interpret Footage..." and checked the "Ignore Alpha Channel" option. Bob's your uncle, it worked. Immediately, the clips played back without so much as a single dropped or frozen frame.
While I cannot vouch for this technique being the silver bullet for all troublesome media, it is definitely something to try and certainly can't hurt. I hope someone else out there finds this useful.

    Colin,
Useful and interesting. It is also simple!
I've had good luck with the Moyea FLV Importer for Premiere, in earlier versions of PrPro. Do not know if it "stripped" out any reference to Alpha, but never had any issues (other than the quality, small Frame Size and all that "stuff."). For a period of time, Moyea did not offer a version of Importer, that would work with CS4. I have been informed that even though CS4 has native support, they have issued an updated version that will work in CS4. Do not know if one would still need to do the Interpret Footage/Ignore Alpha, or not. I also do not know of any other issues, that might exist with that plug-in.
    Thank you,
    Hunt

  • Media Playback Component - how do i close connection

I am using the media playback component to stream Mp3 files.
The rtmp files are loaded into my flash component from a database
and show up as click-to-play links. When the users click to play
them, I call stop on the playback component if it is currently
playing and then the playback component path is changed to the
clicked song and then told to play. When I run this as a Flash
Application everything is fine, however, when I preview on the web
or load onto the web it has problems.
    On the Web:
    1. Each time I click a link it makes a new connection to the
Media Server and does not close the old one.
    2. The music either fails to play, stutters, plays both
streams, or plays for a while and quits.
    3. I end up with one user taking up a bunch of streaming
    licenses
    From Flash:
    1. Each time I click a link it closes the old connection and
    makes a new connection.
    2. The correct song plays without problems.
    3. 1 User, 1 License
Does anyone have any thoughts? How do I explicitly close that
    connection?

Write a stopMusic function that contains the code: "delete
yourMusic" where yourMusic is the name of your Sound Object. i.e.
    var yourMusic:Sound;

  • Poor playback after upgrading to FCP7

Recently I upgraded from FCP6 to FCP7.  With version 6, my playback was excellent.  After the upgrade, NOTHING plays smoothly at all... not even a lone, simple aif. file on the timeline.  In fact, even that stutters, plays slow and drops frames.

    Hi Michael...
It's a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion, 10.8.2.
    Processor: 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 6 GB
    NIVDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
Video was caputured as ProRes 422, but with the upgrade now to ProRes LT.
    Sequence settings:
    Frame Size: 1920x1080 / HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Square
QT Video Settings: Compressor - Apple ProRes 422 (LT) @ 100% quality
Audio settings: 48kHz, 16-bit, channel grouped
Video processing @ always render in RGB
Why I can't even playback a simple audio file is frustrating!  Playback in the viewer is also very, very poor.

  • Working with Cannon 5D Footage. Compress or Raw?

Just started working with both Cannon 5D Mark III and editing in Premiere. I know with FCP it was best to compress to Apple ProRes to work with files (even though they doubled in size). Any compression setting suggestions for working with 5D footage without a loss of quality and/or stuttering play back in Premiere?

You can work with the 5D footage natively in Premiere, if your hardware can keep up with the big demand on the CPU.  I am on a MacPro 8 Core system, and I have no trouble playing back the H.264 from the 5D in full resolution on CS6.  When I worked in CS5.5, I did have to transcode to ProRes first, since CS5.5 on the Mac did not play H.264 very well. Create a matched sequence by dropping a 5D clip on the "New Sequence" icon.
If you are on a slower machine, try reducing the playback resolution to get real-time playback, although that doesn't always work well with the high CPU intense material such as H.264.  If all else fails, go back to your original workflow and transcode to ProRes and you will have no problem.
    Good luck.

  • Stuttery playback

Previously Quicktime ran perfectly on my PC with no problems, but now only the audio runs fine and the video stutters playing half a second then pausing, skipping through a few seconds and doing the same. Sometimes it does this till it crashes. Once it has caused a Blue Screen of DRIVERIRQL_NOT_LESS_BUTEQUAL.
My Quicktime and itunes are up to date and i have tried reinstalling/uninstalling/installing several times to no effect. My drivers are all up to date. I am able to watch Quicktime videos in a web browser, such as Apple Trailers or Game Trailers without any problem, it is just Quicktime movie files or Video podcasts that do not work.
I recently had some memory and crash problems which were caused by over heating, however this Quicktime problem was happening before i found a solution and worked fine for a time during that problem.
I really have no idea how to solve this problem nor do i have any idea what caused it. I run Windows Vista.

QuickTime Control Panel / Advanced tab
Try "Safe mode" for video. Quit and relaunch QuickTime and try the file again.

  • How to Stop Lagging? at 1/4 resolution paused and playback but still lags?

I've never had this problem before but iv been sent some movs as part of a editing job and i make new sequence clip from file in premiere pro cs5.5 and the sequence settings are AVCHD square pixel 25p 1280x720,Square Pixels, No Fields 48000Hz.
I have a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Startup Disk Macintosh HD. The movs play fine in quicktime but play choppy in pro as I say never had these problems with AVCHD before and have tried converting to H.264 and Prores then reimporting but still lags, My media scratch disks are in a folder in my documents as they always have been, if i partion a drive and make set my scratch disks to that partitioned drive, I haven't partitioned a drive before and will back up my work first to be safe but would that make a difference as I want to avoid doing that if possible as have all my work on my laptop so dont want to rush in to something and accidentily delete my work. Please help
I'm not looking for someone just to say buy a new computer or hard drive- that is not helpful as I have had no problems with AVCHD in the past on the same computer with the same software so i'm looking for reasons to improve playback other than chaging resolution

When i play videos from my ssd from my macbook pro retina it stutters. Mostly it happens with 1080p videos.
Ive read different discussions about this topic and ive already tried to set my tv in cinema mote. This didnt help.
Also i tried to turn off tru motion, this didnt help as well.
Ive also tried different videoplayers but it didnt make a difference.
When i play it on my internal macbook screen it doenst stutter at all. It only happens on my external lg tv screen with hdmi.
Ive tried different hdmi cables as well but this too didnt make a difference.
Ive also heard about different refresh rates but i doent know how i can adjust this on my lg tv (lg46LM760).
Please help the stuttering is very annoying and there is no quick awnser available anywhere on the web. And since this is a common problem with many people the awnser probably helps a lot of people.

Additionally, you can run the Apple Diagnostics test from home, though it would not be as reliable as Apple's in house diagnostics in detecting an issue:
