X-Fi XtremeMusic switch chann

So finally?I bought an X-Fi. Very satisfied, but?there's just one small problem.Right and Left channels are switched. In the THX Setup Console, however, the test sound?comes from the good channels (right is right, left is left). I don't seem to have that problem in Vista. WTF?

,I tried changing the output but the problem persists.
Can it be related I have 4 GB of RAM?
My Rig:
Asus M3A78-EM (780g chipset)
4GB OCZ
Phenom II 940 (No OC)
I already changed Ganged/Unganged but it continues....
Please guys, need some help over here!!

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic switch to SPDIF-Out

    Hi, i have a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic SB0460 on a Windows 7 64Bit.
I install the latest Driver and it works.
After a reboot the i see only the SPDIF-Out and the soundcard doesnt work anymore.
    How can i fix it?

Great, you made my day. Thanks for that reply.
I did not know, where to start counting the pins from (there is no nor a 9 next to the pins on my board). Just used the one from the image you posted and: it works.
BUT: When I play music / movies on my PC and have the analog output on AND the digital I can clearly hear, that the digital output has a delay (which leads to a great reverb effect). I tried to turn off all sound processing (EAX, CSS3d, Crystalizer) in the audio console but the delay is still there.
Any idea, on how to get rid of that delay? Because it's bad seeing people move their lips asynchronously to their speaking.
    Thanks, path

  • X-fi XtremeMusic makes ugly noise first, then turn off

Hey, I bought a XtremeMusic just some days ago and tried to install it. First question I had, was, if the card needs an extra current entry because in the manual is written, that I only need it for a E/A console, which I don't got.
So I just connected the PCI Slot and started the PC. I didn't have to deactivate the Onboardsound because I got another Soundcard before. So I just installed the drivers. (I got to say here, that I connected the card analog with my z5500 5. system)
First, anything I got was high peep tone - then I heard nothing. So I looked through the settings - everything was okay here. I visited the official homepage and loaded the newest drivers. After some reboots the card actually worked - for a day.
Today I wanted to test the headphonefunction of the card. I switched the card to headphones and put it in the green box. What I got was a feep-tone again. So I tested the headset with my mp3-player and it worked. So it's the soundcard again, making ugly noises.
But when I wanted to get the sound back to 5. - the tone remains. After a short time, the sound disappered fully. The strange thing is, that I can't really play music. When I play a song in Foobar, it can't start. Same in Youtube, it stocks after 3 seconds. Just the WMP plays songs - without sound.
I don't know what to do know because all the links in the stickies don't work. Please give me an advice howto clean all drivers to install them again. (And of course give me further information - If you know the problem)?

I may have misunderstood what you meant, but when I reinstall again over top of the existing drivers, the add new hardware wizard never even pops up. I only get that when I do a fresh install.. And in that case I ordinarily do select cancel..
Also, it turns out that I get these same errors when installing almost any Creative application or driver..Message Edited by PONCHO2 on 08-24-2008 03:06 PM

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic = Headphones&Mic + Speake

    Hi out there!
    I need your help!
    Plz!
I've got a Audigy X-Fi XtremeMusic installed and all works excellent! (I love the 24bit crystalizer ^_^d)
But I'd like to listen to some music on my stereo and on the other hand I'd like to use some communication-software (teamspeak, skype.. etc), which should be directed through the headphones.
At moment I try to get along by having installed the onboard-soundblaster (ac97 @soundmax version 5.2..3630, mobo: asus p4c-800e-deluxe) and using the "SoundMax Digital Audio"-Device for Teamspeak. The headphone and the microphone is plugged in the motherboard's sockets... and generally it works. BUT.. if I change the master-volume-control on the SoundMax-Control-Panel this change will also affect the master-volume of the creative-audigy-panel!?!?!
Is it possible to change the volume independently? And if so, how? Or are there any other solutions?
I've just discovered a button near the volume-control of the entertainment-mode.. apparently the headphone-volume can be changed autonomously.. so, maybe it's possible to do it with just the Audigy X-Fi Soundcard and the right adjustments?
I'm very confused and I'm very bad in understanding technics... and my english is bad too, sorry!
But, if you understand my problem and have any solution... please help me...!
    Greetz, Titi ^_^

I am having similar problems. I can use my mic fine but the static/overall quality of recording with my mic is HORRIBLE. I have tried 2 headsets and a regular microphone that I bought awhile back. I have an X-Fi ExtremeMusic that I just recently bought, and I installed the drivers off the cd, then updated the drivers on the soundblaster website. If I switch to Game mode, my record device is set on mic, but the static is unbearable.

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic and

Hey all. I have seen some '4. and X-Fi anger/distress' on this forum, but my question is slightly different to that problem. Currently I have Realtek AC97 onboard sound. I have a 4. setup. To run it though, I have to select 5. in Realtek properties or the sub doesn't work (This will do for me, I dont care that it's 5. and I don't have a centre speaker, as long as 4 speakers and sub work I'm happy). The Realtek also switches 'Mic In Port' to 'Subwoofer / Centre' and switches 'Line In' to 'Rear Speakers Out'. The 'Line Out' is set to 'Front Speakers Out'. The thing is I have 2 multimedia/pc type speakers as front, two big HI-FI speakers as rears and then a multimedia/pc sub. The speakers are not connected to each other at all. Each are separate unlike most setups where 4 sats go into a sub or something. I was wanting to know do you think this could work with an X-Fi XtremeMusic with my front 2 PC speakers going into lineout , 2 rear HI-FI speakers into lineout 2 and the sub into lineout 3 or wouldn't this work at all with the X-Fi like it does with my Realtek onboard.
    Cheers for help and suggestions.

Re: X-Fi XtremeMusic and SPDIF bypass with Windows 7l Hello hwoarang5,
why do you think that this is disabled in Windows 7 and Vista?
It worked fine in Windows Vista, too.
Anyway, I've searched yesterday evening?a little bit more and solved the problem myself. To enable SPDIF bypass you have to do the following:
. enable Digital Input in the Windows 7 sound settings (it'sis disabled by default and I forgot about it).
    2. change the FlexiJack mode in the audio settings of Creative to "Digital E/A".
    3. now enable the "Recordation with bit adjustment" (don't know how this is called exactly in the English version).
When there is a PCM (DTS and Dolby is not supported) signal now at the Digital Input you should here something now.
    Hope this helps somebody.
    Best regards

  • X-Fi Xtrememusic and all X-Fi products

I have been corresponding with CL techs via email and telephone re: the connection of my xbox360 to my X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard via optical cable to produce 5. DD from my analogue speakers (Creative T7700). After doing ALOT of research, many ppl (CL lab techs, other sound card companies, forum members) have stated that this is NOT possible as the decoder of DD lies within the software and NOT the hardware of the X-fi soundcard. Thus, the X-Fi XtremeMusic CAN NOT DECODE 5. DD from an xbox360 and you would need an external decoder like DDTS-00. HOWEVER, I came across several CL techs by email and this is what they told me:
    Email :
I understand from your email that you like to know if there is specific driver for X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card. I am sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you. Please let me assist you. For your information there is a built-in decoder on the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card. Therefore the signal from a game console such as an Xbox can be decoded & output to analog speakers. There is no need for an I/O Dri've. You may use a digital Toslink cable to 3.5 mm plug.
    Email 2:
With regard to your email, please be informed that the X-FI Extreme Music sound card is able to decode the 5. DD signal via optical connection to analog speakers. Instead of purchasing the I/O Console, you can get a Tosslink to Minijack adaptor for the connection from the Xbox to Xfi Extreme Music sound card. Please be informed that the decoding will only work on Win XP and not on a Windows Vista PC. In case if you need any clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Email 3:
Prior to getting to the email form on our website, you were asked to try some basic troubleshooting for the issue that you identified. The steps that you were walked through resolve some issues with your product. Some of the information that I provide in this message may be repetiti've but it is still valuable information for troubleshooting your device. Yes it can since the X-Fi XtremeMusic has a built-in decoder.
    Email 4:
With regard to your email, i believe that you are enquiring on a sound card which is suitable for Xbox connection so that it can output 5. sound via the analog speakers connected to the sound card. To do that, you would need to purchase a XFi Extreme Music sound card and an Xfi I/O Console.
So this concludes my message. I do not know who is right. I deliberately wrote the names of the authors of the emails above so that other Creative techs can clarify with them. The emails have stated that I can connect use the digital connection from my 360 to the flexijack of the x-fi XtremeMusic and get 5. DD sound but others have stated that I cant since the decoder is in the software. Can someone from CL tech explain to me this discrepancy? Thanks, I appreciate it alot.

...the sound card itself can not decode the signal so its useless.
I wouldn't say that. The card doesn't need to. It's nicer if it appears to do so than if application programs have to be relied on.
Yes, I have heard that previous?sound cards (not just Creative) had built in decoders to the hardware. This was for 2 reasons. ) Privacy and copyright reasons from Dolby Digital themselves. 2) Codecs change very quickly which means that the hardware will be obsolete once a new codec is released. Thus, it is more efficient to embedd the codecs in software itself. This is based on one of the correspondences with a CL tech staff member.
There may have been soundcards that included hardware decoding, but I've only heard of one, which was an early USB-interfaced one by CL which was almost stand-alone in character. I have a vague memory of some card with a DSP chip being programmed for it, but I also have this sense this was vaporware or a baseless claim.
Almost all soundcards punt and say they support decoding but really just include a copy of PowerDVD or similar that actually does it (which CL has started doing recently, unfortunately), but CL has pretty much been unique in including a driver-based decoder which makes the card look like it does do decoding. As far as I can tell, the Xtrememusic is one of those. ? In most cases these support digital-in decoding from an external digital input, but you usually needed the I/O dri've to have the digital input it supported that for. As I said, the formal manual shows explictly how to make an optical connection from a DVD player to the I/O Dri've or I/O console expressly so the card's decoding can be used to hear DD/DTS on the computer's analog speakers.
As far as your comment about hardware becoming obsolete, why haven't I heard about this being a problem for DD/DTS receivers. That's hardware,
    isn't it's
Yes, you will need to specify the source if multiple sources are connected to the sound card.
Only if more than one is supported and it is not the default. It is entirely possible that if there is more than one external digital input, only one of them is actually supported as a decoding input.
Well, I think its kinda dumb to put a flexijack that is nonfunctional for digital I/O unless you buy the I/O console or dri've separately. Many consumers, including me, thought that external devices can be directly connected to the flexijack since it is Digital I/O. IMO, this is a bit misleading.
There is only so much real estate on the card's slot cover, and you can't help that some people are apt to jump to unwarranted conclusions. In fact, you can connect external devices to the flexijack directly, in the output direction such as connecting the card to a receiver's coaxial digital input, but you need the Digital I/O Module to do that optically, or to do either form of digital input. You can do so without the I/O console or dri've in addition. The question is not that the flexijack cannot be used for digital input, it's whether the card's decoding feature supports decoding from it, or only from the digital inputs on the dri've/console. It might, but to say it does or doesn't would be an unwarranted conclusion, since I don't have confirmation either way. I also don't know the effect of Vista, if you're using it, but I know that once again drivers had to be rewritten for it, and when that happens, esoteric features may get broken or not work for awhile. (Microsoft seems to be quite incapable of architecting a stable driver environment.)? Plus, drivers rewritten for Vista might force CL to renegotiate the Dolby licensing, which even might be the reason CL has stopped supplying driver-based decoding in some cases.
To me, it doesnt really matter how many external digital inputs are connected or whether you can switch between digital inputs?from multiple input sources. The fact remains that the Xtrememusic currently can not decode 5. DD li've regardless if you have an adaptor (optical>3/5mm), I/O module, I/O console. In other words,?you can find many ways to connect external devices to the sound card, but the sound card cant INTERPRET and DECODE those digital inputs.
    It can.

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic installation, Audio Console probl

Shortly after learning I'd been fooled into buying a rebranded Audigy card instead of a real X-Fi, I picked up an X-Fi XtremeMusic online. Immediately after installing it the problems hit me from every direction. The PCI slot I had installed it in absolutely refused to recognize it - and this was the exact same slot my previous "Xtreme Audio" had occupied! Regardless, I switched up the PCI slot after reading dozens of forum posts both here and elsewhere and found that my card was immediately seen by the system... or so I thought. When I tried again to install the software, I was hit with the exact same error message as before "Setup is unable to detect a supported device on your system." Back again to the forums. After learning more, I wondered if it would be a driver issue, and found the Web Update 4. I installed this, and lo and behold I got sound and an incredibly basic version of the Audio Console. No nice graphics (think Win98 style), no graphic equalizer, just a series of mundane, and to be honest, quite useless tabs like something straight out of the system device manager. I thought I might be able to get back the Audio Console like I had with the NotX-Fi I was running before by attempting to use the installation disc again, and I was hit with the Exact. Same. Error.
How is it possible for me to have the surround sound and other features from my card without being able to complete an installation from the disc? How is my system not aware of the X-Fi when I'm clearly getting good sound out of it's Lastly, does anyone know if I can get the -real- version of the X-Fi XtremeMusic Audio Console instead of the pitiful tab based garbage I'm stuck with at the moment? Thanks in advance.

  • X-Fi's Mode Switcher reboots the system / EAX 5.0 issues

I have strange problems with my Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic:
When I'm trying to use a different audio mode (e. g. switching from Audio Creation Mode to Game Mode), my system restarts suddenly, like the same when I push the reset button on my computer.
    However it appears very rare.
The second anomaly focuses only in a few EAX 5.0 game titles, just two example: El Matador and Call of Juarez. In these games, the player can use 'slow motion' (or 'bullet time') in specific situations: after too many shoots fired, the sound playback get disorted and end up in a VERY NOISY click, so I must turn off my sound system to avoid damaging my speakers of my MegaWorks 550 THX 5..
A few tip will be useful for me.

I suggest you reinstall the drivers from the website. These are version number 2.07.0003. The reason you are getting this error is because the ct_oal.dll file, which is the nati've OpenAL driver, is incompatible with the rest of the drivers. Most probably, you upgraded your drivers, but sometimes these files do not get updated, because they are secondary files, not required or tested by Windows WHQL.
When you download the drivers, right-click on them and select to extract them first. Then go into a subfolder named DRIVERS and run setup from there. On the dialog box that appears, select to Upgrade drivers and make sure you select "Overwrite existing Creative shared files". This option makes sure the OpenAL driver gets installed.

  • X-Fi Mode Switching and XP File Permissi

I have my file permissions locked down pretty tightly for all accounts except the Administrator. This is great for preventing major file system meltdowns whenever my wife picks up an email virus, but it can also make trouble now and then. The X-Fi appears to fall into the file restrictions trap.
    The card: XtremeMusic
The issue: I cannot change the current mode unless I am running an account with unlimited write access to my hard dri've (in this case, my administrator account).
I have determined this is a file permissions problem by creating an account which is part of the administrators group, but which has limited write access to the hard dri've. If it was a registry problem then this test account would switch modes no problem since it has the same access to the registry as any administrator. Additionally, if I give unlimited write access to any account which can't switch modes, it suddenly can switch modes no problem.
I have tried making the Creative folder in 'Program Files' write accessible by all user accounts, but this does not do the trick. There are several Creative files within the 'Windows' folder, and I have a suspicion that I need to give write access to something here, but it is not immediately self evident.
Does anyone know which files and folders specifically require write access for X-Fi mode switching to work? Is there any documentation about how mode switching is achieved (write a file, change a registry value, push data directly to the card)?
    Thanks.
    Drailex_Mauder

    pjt23,
Funny you should mention that, I continued my search for the answer while waiting for potential replies, so I downloaded FileMon and picked away at the output. My discovery was useful.
It seems that when modes are changed CTXFISPI.EXE reads and writes files in this directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Creative\Spi\
    {00000005-00000000-00000007-000002-00000005-00202}\Modes
If you think like me, you might have made the 'All Users' folder read only to prevent the technically inept members of your household from breaking things. Unfortunately, this prevents CTXFISPI.EXE from reading and writing the files it needs to change modes.
To fix this scenario, you don't need to make the entire 'All Users' folder generally writable, you only need to make sure that the above 'Modes' subfolder is writeable by all users that need to change modes. Most likely, you will want to give either 'Everyone' or 'Authenticated Users' full access to this folder.
If the reader doesn't know how to do this then it probably doesn't apply (since the file permissions should be set as their defaults), however, if you want to learn something new then I suggest you search "xp file permissions tutorial" on Google and do some reading.
Of course, this information will only be relevant for Windows XP Pro users (and maybe Windows 2000, but I haven't confirmed). Sorry if you have XP Home, but setting file permissions is a real drag which requires you to boot into safe mode. It is highly unlikely that file permissions are your problem if you can't switch modes when using XP Home.
The interesting part of all this is that it implies that there must be a way to invoke CTXFISPI.EXE to make mode changes. If we can determine how it works, then the community can work on third party apps which allow mode changes through scripts or a tray app menu.
I'm going to spawn a new thread with this information to see if it goes anywhere.

  • X-fi XtremeMusic drivers not install

    Hello everyone,
I just bought myself an XtremeMusic. My system is:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium English 32-bit OEM
    MB: EVGA nForce 680i SLI
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 2 x 3.0 GHz
GPU: EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT Superclocked Edition
    RAM: 2 x GB OCZ Dual-Channel DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Memory
HD: Maxtor 60 GB SATA II
I removed my old sound card, an Audigy 2 Value (Value is right, great card!), along with all the software (Audio Console was the only one) and ran a registry cleaner and the DriverHeaven Driver Cleaner (Creative + Creative Lite removal). Turned off my PC, switched cards, powered on, got a message from Windows prompting me for a driver, cancelled that (like it says in the Quick Start guide). I entered the included X-fi installation CD, but got an error message saying that this OS wasn't supported for this driver set. Fine, I thought, new OS, needs newer drivers, I'll get 'em from the Creative website.
And so I did. I tried both the 2.5.0004 [color="#000000"]and 2.5.0006 [color="#000000"]drivers. Both of them install the console and presumably some drivers that Windows needs to pick up later for itself. After the install it prompts me for a reboot, which I do. After the reboot is where things go awry.
[color="#000000"]Windows notifies me that there's a new device (Multimedia Audio Controller) and it needs drivers (it can't find them so doesn't install them automatically, I assume). It searches Windows Update and the entire HD with no luck. It asks me to insert the installation CD, which as expected doesn't work either. My last option is to designate a folder (and subfolders) to search for the drivers. At this point I've extracted the downloaded .exe file with WinRAR and pointed Windows there. No luck with either installer respecti'vely.
Can anyone give me a hand?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Thanks for the quick reply, freesky.
I followed your steps, but after installing the Creative bundle from the CD and rebooting, Windows still prompts me for drivers for the device and the AutoUpdate program gives me this message.
"Creative Software AutoUpdate was unable to detect any Creative products attached to your computer."
So Windows is still not 'taking the bait' as far as the drivers go. I have a feeling something's wrong with the card itself. What do you think?
EDIT: My brother has the same sound card on his PC (XP). I've swapped cards, PCs and software and can safely say it's the card's fault for not working. Back to the store with this one.

  • Audio from headphones gets distorted when switched to "entertainment mode" w

the sound quality from my headphones gets messed up whenever I switch to "entertainment mode." when i say "messed up," i mean the volume would constantly fluctuate from really high to just noise then high again.
however, when i switch it to "game mode" all the problems disappear.
why are my headphones (sennheiser pc50) not compatible with "entertainment mode?"
    i have a creative x-fi xtrememusic card.

I had a similar problem using X-Fi Fatalty. By similar I mean everything worked until switching to entertainment mode. When in entertainment mode all audio had a horrible amount of loud static and noise riding on it. This wasn't limited to headphones though as the same occurred using my 2. speaker system. I was using the latest driver, from June of '06 I believe.
I rolled back to the driver on my install CD (version 5.2.2.43 dated 8/8/2005)and it solved the issue.

  • X-Fi XTremeMusic crashes windows xp frequen

    Hi,
i've read through a ton of BB threads which mentions X-Fi cards crashing (BSOD) but my problem seems to be rather different..not in terms of crashing but that there is BSOD..it simply just shuts down the PC and then restarts.
Anyways, here's the symptoms so far noticed:
) extremely slow responses from HD and memory
    2) switching applications can crash explorer
    3) PC restarts even when idle - gives me a "windows has recovered from a serious injury blah blah blah" message.
Now, my specs could be the problem here so don't shoot me for a n00b pls.
    Dell 8400 P4 3.0Ghz HT
    2 x Gb OCZ ram
2 x 80Gb 7200 IDE dri'ves (had originally SCSCI in it but it got borked)
    ATI X800GT 256Mb vid card
    X-Fi XTremeMusic scard
Basically the only thing that's stock standard is the motherboard and the cpu - everything else has more or less been replaced with better hardware.
So, i've seen the PSU mentioned, the BIOS flash and N4 updates...but to be honest, i seriously don't dare flash my BIOS..it's a Dell and i'm sure if i tried i'd break it thoroughly..secondly, i've been told that Dell uses a propriatary PSU that's non-standard with the power plugs etc (i wouldn't know..am n00b remember).
So what would be a reasonable suggestion here? should i chuck the case, mobo, cpu and psu and get a new kit or is there any real smart peeps here which could help me out before i go to that extreme?
    Thanks in advance guys..

Well it could still be the same sort of problem. IIRC there is a windows setting that allows systems to auto reboot instead of freezing on errors. Maybe you have that set which is preventing you from seeing a BSOD but only guessing on that. After this happens, if you reboot the system again does performance improve
Slow HD's makes me wonder if also maybe your dri'ves are running in Pio mode not DMA which would definitly make them run slower. You might want to check in device manager. Also maybe check for shared IRQ's

now i have the x-fi xtrememusic a teufel concept e magnum and a sennheiser headset
i would like to use them both (teufel for music sennheiser for gaming) without changing the cables on my x-fi all the time
and it would be nice that if i use the headset the speakers would be muted or something like that
    is that possible?
    second question:
i've a front panel on my pc with line in and line out
can i connect it on my x-fi? i didnt find sth about that in the manual
thx if u can help me
    cya

    realnoob,
What you describe is possible on a model with a dri'vebay, but not on the X-Fi Xtreme Music. Everything connectors to the back of the card so there is no way to distinguish between normal speakers and headphones. On the dri'vebays there is a headphone jack, which can automatically switch settings when you plug in headphones.

    No, this is not supported.

  • Problem with Switching M

Dear, I have the latest driver release installed for my X-Fi XtremeMusic, and since a not so long time I experience troubles switching modes : I don't have any message telling me that an audio app is open, I clearly hear the relays switching when changing mode, but it seems the Audio Console won't change it.
I can switch between Audio Creation / Game, Game / Entertainment, but not between Game / Creation. Sometimes I can't even switch at all :^D. It's pretty strange to hear the relays while nothing happens, isn't it ?
EDIT : I've also just noticed that when I change mode with X-Fi Mode Changer, the app pops up a bubble that confirms mode has changed, but finally I get no sound at all, even if I switch back to the mode that worked.Message Edited by CubicReg on 07-6-2006 0:27 PM

Call your carrier & have them activate your new phone. If a GSM model, they will want your IMEI number & sim number.
